It’s a cool and quirky place. They serve cocktails, ice cream, and alcoholic ice cream treats. My friends got shakes with bourbon in them and seemed to really enjoy them. I don’t drink so I got chocolate ice cream with cookie dough in it. It was delicious! I feel like this would be a really good date spot.
Prohibition is a little outside of the city... approximately a 1 mile walk from downtown, but as the name suggests, if booze laden ice-cream is what youre craving, this is the place to head to. The menu is extensive, though on a couple of the ice-creams the flavourings were a little too subtle - so Id suggest asking for a sample first to avoid disappointment. The staff were friendly and happy to explain the menu, and even offered suggestions based on our preferences. On the night we attended Prohibition was busy and had a real buzz about it.
Really great take on some classic ice cream concoctions. Our desserts were made-to-order order at the counter, so we didn’t have to wait around being teased by delicious smells, which also meant there wasn’t time for them to melt. Seating amount was relatively limited, but fortunately we went at a time it wasn’t too busy (late-afternoon). The Black Magic, charcoal infused, chocolate ice cream was next level decadent 5/5.And their mascot is a dapper looking sloth.
Fantastic little desert spot in downtown Austin. The half cocktail bar half creamery had fantastic flavors of ice cream. I had the old fashioned sunday. It was awesome, the bourbon Ice Cream and the candied orange peel really made it stand out. I assumed everything was made in house talking to the bartender and everything was delicious. My wife had the chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream in that two was outstanding. The place was great for having a little dessert in the middle of the night out. This is definitely a place to hit while in Austin. The service was also outstanding as I noticed people forgiven free samples upon request in the bartenders definitely new what they were doing both with a cocktail and with making ice cream concoctions. Definitely will be back.
Absolutely loved this place! We will definitely be visiting again! The staff was very friendly, informative, and adaptable in helping us newbies change some non-boozy shakes to boozy shakes. Everything here is homemade (with the exception of the liquor)and it tasted amazing. My boyfriend boozed up the snicker-candy mix one, and I added chocolate to the banana liquor shake. Both were great choices; everything was so well-blended you could hardly taste the alcohol, but you could definitely feel it.
So we can here as a group last night, I will admit the idea is really cool, but the customer service is lacking. We ordered our choices at the bar, the menu offers a classic and boozy scoop for $7.50, which is a saving compared to the $5 and $6 per scoop, respectively. The bartender asked us if we wanted it in separate cups or one and we decided separate. Well he ended up charging us per scoop, without informing us it would be more expensive when he gave us the separate cup option. We even said we wanted to do the 2 scoop classic boozy option. We inquired about why the price was nearly twice as much. He gave us an attitude and made a big deal if we wanted him to cram the scoops in one cup and then refund us. At this point I dont even care but at least explain it to people before you go charge them twice as much. And dont get sassy on customer when they are simply inquiring what happened. We ate our ice creams there and noticed the same bartender hounding people for not getting their orders at the bar, he has quite an attitude and he alone turns me off from the whole place. The ice cream was nothing special to me even with the booze. We actually found the motito almost unbearable to eat, the other people in our group also couldnt eat theirs. Its a punch you in the face tang. The classic cheesecake was okay, again nothing special. I find there are other ice cream shops near by that are better as well as other ice cream shops throughout time that also offer boozy ice cream. The idea of a bar and ice cream is neat. Perhaps if they had a better customer service situation going on it would make it worth it.
Beware! You may not realize how tipsy you may be getting- its not easy to taste the liquor in the delicious flavors of the ice cream! Prohibition has the ambiance of a speak easy, and has a good selection of cocktails, milkshakes, sundaes and icecream (all of which have boozy and non boozy options). I had the Whiskey Choclate with Boozy Brownie Bites, which sure satiated my craving for icecream 😋. The staff was generous, the prices were fair. You may have to find street parking, but its worth the hassle!
Alcohol and ice cream? Can’t get much better than that! I came here for the first time today and had a great experience. I tried a couple of the flavors and they all tasted good. The flavor that stood out the most to me was the Bourbon! The bourbon was nice and smooth - not too overwhelming and it was blended pretty well with the ice cream. I also got a scoop of the dark chocolate sorbet which was surprising - it didn’t taste or feel like a sorbet at all, tasted just like ice cream. All in all, this is a great place to come with friends to drink, eat some good ice cream, relax, and play some board games (available on request!). Highly satisfied with my visit and I will be back more often!
Really cool selection of ice cream flavors, most of them with booze. Absinthe with cocoa nibs? Okay! Bourbon? Yes please! This is an awesome place to get your ice cream/booze fix, and its open super late, which is perfect for visiting after dinner. There are a few choices of sundaes, several milkshake options, and many cocktails if youre not as into the joy obtainable from dairy products. Or you can get some scoops and have your liquor of choice poured over for an adult float.
I didnt realize this was a boozy ice cream place until we got here, yes they have normal flavors as well (though not many) but I the boozy ice cream and milk shake aspect was different and something I havent experienced before so I opted for those options instead. We got a scoop of the tiramisu and a scoop of the pecan buttered rum.. and they were definitely boozy! You can taste the liquor, especially in the tiramisu, but the ice cream itself was delicious as well - I think it was a good combination of booze and ice cream for a hot day! I loved the pecan buttered rum flavor more than the tiramisu cause it was less boozy and the alcohol wasnt so overwhelming. Just depends on what you like but the milkshakes looked divine as well. I was sad they ran out of waffle cones but we got ours in a cup and they added waffle flakes to it for us. Cool bar type feel but small seating selection up front and on the patio as well. Very unique spot with definitely something unique to offer! I havent come across too many boozy ice cream places so Im glad I got to try this one!
Serving up tasty and boozy ice cream treats. Pumpkin Spice cones, Pumpkin Spice Sundaes, and Pumpkin Spice Whipped Cream! Cones are filled with scoops of Vietnamese Coffee (tastes like a pumpkin spice latte with the whip on top) and Cheesecake ice cream!
Stopped by here after getting stuffed at the Brixton and needing to sober up a bit after excessive mimosas. I had the Mocha Milkshake and my wife had a cold brew coffee float. What makes this place special is the alcohol infused ice creams made fresh daily. We tried several and they all tasted great.Mocha MilkshakeThey did a great job of making a shake taste great without being overly sweet like you would get at Starbucks. The fresh cream was delicious too!Cold brew sundaeAgain, its hard to go wrong with their ice cream. The cold brew was good too, but I have a hard thing distinguishing between different ones. Of the two drinks I much preferred the mocha.Only giving it 4 stars because of the pricing, ended up paying close to $25 for two shakes with tips!
Had some wonderful ice cream here. The liquor infused chocolate is very dark and chocolatey, delicious but strong. The buttered rum is very mild and very good. Red velvet cbd is delicious but on the sweet side. Overall enjoyed every bite!
Ice-cream was good, music was excellent, cocktails were really tasty but service was the worst i have experienced in Texas. I had to wait 10 min to be served while 4 people behind the bar were just playing around and not serving anyone - 2 people left the bar in that time since they couldnt get a drink. So if you dont mind being ignored, i would recommend the place - food and drinks are really nice. A bit expensive for what it is though.
It was a place in my list for a long time and boy, it did not disappoint!Located in the hot and trendy EastSide, you feel like you are stepping into another time period and expect to meet some gentleman in tuxedo smoking cigars or ladies dancing Charleston. The atmosphere is great, the menu offers a variety of ice cream desserts : sundaes, milkshakes, floats or just scoops with boozy toppings. They have a seasonal flavor, this months flavor is prickly pear Mezcal sorbet. They also have great cocktails if you are not feeling like having a sweet tooth. We had the Irish coffee and 2 scoops of Pecan buttered Rum and whiskey chocolate with boozy brownie bites. So delicious! This is definetely a great spot where I can gladly/proudly take friends and family visiting from out of town!
Went there a couple of months back - The ice cream was fantastic to say the least .. and the hospitality matched it !Planning to again today if its open.. way to start the new year !
This is one of my favorite spots for a cocktail or a sweet treat. Their ice creams are amazing and I highly recommend getting extra boozy brownie bites! Their bartenders are fantastic and make all the great classics as well as creative and delicious seasonal cocktails. Great atmosphere and super friendly staff to top off this East Side gem!
Got 3 scoops: cheesecake, black magic (cbd) and whiskey chocolate. All three were delicious.
Alright, that was good. Tasted good, kid friendly ice cream, and the staff, all of them were super friendly. Great experience
I enjoyed the ice cream and the ambience inside the building. I will for sure go again! I was basic my first time! I had the boozy buttered pecan( forgive me if i dont say the exact name on the menu)
Came by here with the wife and dog...had a scoop of Absinthe with some crumbles on top. Delicious. my wife had the prickly pear, as did our dog. Great place...small area outside to sit w music and shade. Well be back often. Great concept! Quaint surroundings.
This place is a must for us every time we visit Austin. My husband just loves the Potter Pecan. Their customer service is equally amazing. Till next time!
So sad that you all are closing. We dropped by to grab some ice cream around 9:50PM and saw a sign on the door that you closed early. We will miss this place!
They flavors were really good and really Boozy. We had their magic sauce too that hardens and that was definitely worth it.
Beautiful spot and the ice cream flavors are fantastic. I love the carbon ice creams. so thicc
Whats not to love when combining alcohol and ice cream? Let the experts here do the hard work for you so you can just enjoy the experience. The absinthe ice cream was excellent!
This is one of my favorite places in Austin and Ive had only great experiences and memories while visiting. During the pandemic it has been a constant treat to place a to-go order after a long day. They have been following cleaning protocols to the max and Im unsure why people are posting 1-star reviews saying otherwise. Support this amazingly unique East Austin staple.
One of the more unique places Ive been to in Austin! Striking a balance between most booze and the sweetness of ice cream, but they did it. And they have a great selection to boot. Highly recommended!
Wow, what a rip-off. This place is overly priced, and the photos I seen with reviews do not represent what we received. This was supposed to be a sundae and I received a single scoop of ice cream with chocolate thrown on it with a tiny amount of Baileys thrown in its own container.
Great dessert and service. Have the Deconstructed Old Fashioned Sundae. It is fantastic!
This place is amazing! They make their ice cream from scratch and it shows. The quality is amazing! I recommend the Absinthe and the Banana Fosters!!! Absolutely deliciously shocking! Thank you Alex for taking care of us!
Fun ice cream spots with flavors you cant get anywhere else. We tried the non boozy cheesecake icecream and loved it.
Absolutely amazing! I loved the prickly pear sorbet, my husband was a huge fan of the triple bourbon milkshake!!
A year ago, a friend and I started to go to this place but by the time we got there, they were closed. My wife and I decided to go there for dessert on our anniversary. It was busy, but the servers were keeping up with the pace quite well. I had the Irish whisky chocolate float which was good, but my wife had the boozy Nutella shake and it was great.
Next to seeing my daughter, this is my favorite place to go in Austin. So delicious. A true treat!
Absolutely delightful! Creative menu, everything is delicious, and the customer service is wonderful. The Vietnamese Coffee with espresso fudge was the total bomb. I loved everything about it. 🍦♥️
My husband wanted a beer, and my daughter wanted ice cream. This was the perfect place for both! Alcohol infused ice cream was delicious and my husband had a beer float with ice cream in it. Great little place and friendly staff
