Sooooo happy to walk by and see this place open today. i moved to the neighborhood/city in march and i dislike starbucks & big chains, leaving me with no local brews.happy crew and people working, 2 blocks from my house and tasty coffee. (i normally dont even like lighter/brighter roasts but theirs is sublime!)tried some pumpkin bread, it was spongy and moist. and most of all, THEY DONT HAVE AN APP 🙏 any place where people need to run in, run out... isnt my kind of place.welcome back CC! so nice to meet you!
I just went here for the first time and I absolutely loved it! The people are so nice and it’s a cute and clean little shop. I LOVED the almond croissant and the chocolate croissant I got here along with the ice coffee. I can’t wait to go back soon
I feel very lucky to live just a block from Common Cup. Over the past 5.5 years, Ive stopped there often before running to the L on the way to work to grab a piece of quiche, egg sandwich, or one of their delicious pastries (their pain au chocolat is amazing--and their almond croissants are, hands-down, my favorite outside of Paris! Seriously). During the Pandemic, its also reassuring to know that this business with its friendly and welcoming staff is right down the street --and open for take out.(During normal times), they have ample seating in the front room (great for working remotely or people watching)--and a back room with tons of additional seating as well. Hanging out in this light-filled cafe always feels uplifting.Common Cup has a strong commitment to the community, always displaying interesting art on the walls from local artists, facilitating clothing drives, and selling items (coasters, ceramic mugs, gloves, candles, etc.) from local artisans. Id love to see even more items like this available!Lately, with the new owners, I believe theyve been expanding their food selections, which is great. (Just as long as they keep their almond croissants, Im happy). If I have any suggestions at all, Id love to see someone from CC respond to the questions people post in response to CCs Facebook posts, as I often have the same questions. Id also love for the place to stay open later (alas, this is my hope for all Chicago coffee shops, where evening hours just dont seem to be a thing--unlike many other cities) and perhaps host some live music (perhaps on the patio), as I usually have to work the hours theyre open. Id definitely hang out there in the evenings if I could. They even have a printer here thats available for use (for pay)--super convenient if your printer is always out of ink (like mine is)!Super-lucky to have this place in our neighborhood! Thank you.
An excellent coffee shop right near the Morse stop. Their coffee and pastries are delicious, especially the croissants! I was lucky enough to come in when they were coming out of the oven and it made my whole week. This is definitely my favorite coffee shop in Rogers Park.
I went here this morning and everyone was friendly. I got the pumpkin bread and the cinnamon roll danish (HIGHLY RECOMMEND). I also got an iced americano, which was yummy. My partner thought all the pastries were yummy too, and I liked everything so much that Im going to nag him to write a 5 star review too. :)
Nice coffee shop!
Great food and coffee, wonderful center for the neighborhood that gives back to the community. Definitely support them, they are such an excellent business and a gem in the neighborhood.
Great local coffee shop. Delicious coffee and other drinks.Black owned
This has been my go-to coffee shop for almost a year now, but I need to give a special shout-out to the staff that helped us when my girlfriend was attacked outside of their store. She wasnt hurt and the perp has been banned from the store, and the staff has also gone out of their way to help us identify and charge the man. Their coffee is good but what makes them truly great is the awesome staff. They are truly a Rogers Park community staple.
Great coffee. The breakfast sandwich and chocolate croissant were delicious!
Excellent cafe. There is safe indoor seating and really good music. The employees are the best, the pastries are really good, and the drinks are great!
Awesome coffee shop with super friendly baristas! Theyve done a great job with all the safety precautions during the pandemic as well. My favorite -- the pumpkin bread!!
Delicious pastries, breakfast foods, and drinks. My favorite coffee shop in Chicago! Also black owned which is pretty dope! Check it out for yourself!
Candied yam latte?? YES its the perfect fall drink! Not overly sweet but just full of flavor. Really cozy coffeeshop with a fun atmosphere. It seems like the perfect spot to grab a drink, some yummy pastries and read a book/do some work for a few hours post-COVID. Current COVID protocols include limiting the number of customers inside at a time, closed indoor seating, masks mandatory, hand sanitizer at the counter, etc. Cant wait to come back to this black-owned business to try more!
Amazing coffee and breakfast snacks. We love the specialty drinks, and have loved having a place to walk in the mornings as were working from home now :)
Cute place and friendly staff! The almond burr latte is tasty
Best breakfast sandwiches and coffee in Rogers Park!
My favorite coffee shop in Chicago. The breakfast sandwich is amazing!
Great place to stop for coffee in the morning. Not the greatest place to get work done though, as often there are art classes for kids - or maybe Ive just frequented there at the wrong time (or the right time, I guess, if I was a kid that wanted to draw!). Very nice and friendly baristas, and the owner is a sweetie.
One of the servers (who i believe is the owner, actually) was quite rude. also the flies are too much. its nice that they have a whole separate room space for people to work in though. but the flies. and the rudeness. no thanks.(original edit: in response the note below, I wrote this review days after my visit. It was an older woman with glasses. And frankly, it doesnt matter if it was the owner or not. Rudeness is rudeness.)edit (1/20) I am changing my review from two stars to five stars cause the cranky mean white woman who was rude to me left, and it is now black owned :) have a blessed day!
Literally the sweetest people work here and drinks r great :)))
Great local coffee shop. Muffins are amazing, cinnamon roll delicious, and banana foster latte is my guilty pleasure. Staff is friendly and welcoming.
Awesome local place to visit.
Great little neighborhood coffee shop. Used to come here often when I lived in the neighborhood. Lots of space to hide away and study. Ambience is a little off in the side room, but the main area is awesome.Pastry selection is good. Also they have outdoor seating for when it’s warm enough to be outside.
Best coffee shop in Chicago. Totally unpretentious with great coffee and food. Staff is super friendly. Highly recommended.
Friendly nice place all wore their mask
Friendly people, great coffee and food! I love the vibe of this place.
Amazing and friendly staff with great coffee and their cranberry muffin was out of this world.
Its a cute corner spot with a friendly staff. I had a breakfast sandwich that was good. However, my friend was served a parfait cup with mold on it (I think they were from an outside supplier)
Always like coming here on the weekends to hang out and relax. Great service all the time. Serving Counter Culture Coffee. Which is one of my favorite roasters. Serving excellent variety of sandwiches, salads and desserts. Great selection of vegan and gluten free baked goods.
Delicious coffee and good atmosphere! The staff was nice and the place was clean. They had quick service and some really nice artwork! I would highly suggest going here for coffee just to do schoolwork or have a conversation with a friend!
Nice independent coffee shop on a residential corner in Rogers Park. Quirky, pleasant, cozy and a good cup of joe. They also serve food which seemed very popular this particular Saturday morning and smelled quite delicious. It was being made to order. Must come back.
The staff is incredibly nice. I enjoy coming here to get some work done. They have a great Turkey Swiss and/or Cheddar sandwich, also delicious blueberry energy balls. Coffee is wonderful.
Indie coffee shop-staff warms up as they begin to recognize you. Then theyre great. Big selection of hot and cold drinks. Always collecting for different charities. Its my local coffee shop. Perfect in that role.
Sometimes I dream about your smoothies. Its the sweetest place in Rogers Park. Get coffee and a sandwich, theres wifi, you can borrow from the community bookshelf, and everyone who works here is just delightful. I bring friends here whenever were in the neighborhood and its always a hit. :)
Descent little coffee shop that tells you to not let your friends drink Starbucks even though their espresso isnt that much better (but it is better, let it be known). The food they offer is actually rather descent and you can even get ice cream! Also, dont miss massages on Thursday. Yup, massages.
They are a nice outfit. I like the coffee they serve and they have juice you can buy as well. They also make pastries but I dont remember ever trying them. I go here like twice a month sometimes for a cup and a friendly meeting place. Memorable meetings there make it worth mentioning!!! :) I give five stars for clean bathrooms and good cleanliness elsewhere.
I visited here 3 times during my stay in Rogers Park in March. Relaxed pleasant atmosphere. Coffee comes in ceramic mugs; the bagels are delicious; its nice and bright, with an interesting street corner view on 2 sides. Clearly a hang for regulars and local meet-ups. Really friendly and no-nonsense. They let you sit for hours.
Quaint. Cozy. Just what you want in a coffee shop. Lovely Staff
I always come here to be honest when i can. There muffins are TOOO good. Its a chill vibe and Ive never had a rude interactions like some have posted about.I remember when they first opened up when i was in middle school. I used to stop by and grab a brownie when ever i could. I was also sad when we moved away. Now that we are back in the area, Im glad the brownies are still the same so rich. Roasted almond latte is nice along with there tea selections. They are also the only cafe i know that is selling brownie sundaes in the winter so if you want one. its heaven
A true neighborhood coffee shop. Nothing pretentious here- just great coffee, decent pastries, and comfortable shared space with all kinds of neighbors.
Amazing coffee drinks and amazing staff!
The food is ok but the friendly environment and good coffee make it even better.
Best place for a cup of coffee in Rogers Park!
Excellent mocha, lovely sandwich, but bored (and mildly inattentive) barista. The colorful aspect of the other patrons made the experience rather nice. Its a bigger place than it looks, lots of *potential* natural light, and the staff is probably happier when it isnt looking so drear outside.
This is my favorite coffee place in Rogers Park. Ruth and the rest of the staff are always warm and welcoming. They’re breakfast sandwiches are delicious and the cinnamon rolls are to die for. Don’t pass this place up. Get cozy and meet a few of your neighbors!
Common Cup has consistently shown up with great coffee and service!
Nice place to go for coffee. But small and crowded. Maybe because it was Saturday afternoon.
Fast service, great food, friendly staff, and clean. Theres a sort-of back area with additional seating but most tend to congregate up front or outside. A better system for picking up orders might be good but overall a great local coffee shop.
Huge space for working: main room and big back room. $3 oatmeal with raisins, cream, brown sugar. Coffee is decent, staff nice. A little run down. Chilly space.
Came here with my wife and two kids and found it pretty relaxing. Its right at rogers park artsy district and off the red line, so its a perfect location. They serve counter culture coffee which is good but I was a little disappointed that they didnt go local with so many good coffees from Chicago.Good spot to chill, read, chat with friends or work.
Just got to go today because I was looking for a cafe nearby. Small but amazing place. their blueberry pie is amazing. The coffee is fresh. The store is neat and artsy.
A nice local coffee shop. Friendly staff. Offers a variety of seasonal options for food and drinks.
The best neighborhood coffee shop! Roomy, with great coffee and treats.
The staff here are really wonderful people and they do a good job at making our days a little bit better with something yummy to drink! support your local small businesses~ ❤️p.s they have delicious fruit danishes.
Good quiche.
I Have been going to this coffee shop for years, always buying coffee and something for my son . Always with associates who also enjoy their food. I went here recently and sat down for a few minutes while having a conversation with a friend, having the intention to buy coffee at one point, and was treated like a low life and told to buy something or get out. Id understand if it was packed but it was empty. Ive never had this kind of treatment at any coffee shop in my life, especially when Im a regular. After the treatment I received I just decided to leave without my coffee . I dont recomend this place at all. I was looking at the other reviews with the same complaints and theyre all minorities, maybe a coincidence?
I really like the coffee here. Some might find it bitter, though. Cant wait to try the amazing looking pies selection.
Great neighborhood coffee shop. Not a lot of seating. Usually busy.
Delicious dirty chai can be found here, incredibly friendly staff
Peaceful, serene place. Nice place to read, bring your laptop or your phone. Coffee drinks are delicious. Food is available, fresh, kind stuff.
Nice little coffee shop, good amount of seating and some creative specials. Prices reasonable
Great coffee. great staff. and a great small business to support if you want to make a difference in your community
Nice quite place to sit and have cup for a minute. They have a family restroom which is perfect for bringing baby with you.
Super friendly! Great coffee!
Well-lit and not too noisy. A standard menu for drinks and a few food items. A nice alternative to Starbucks.
Good sandwich, fair service
Common Cup is one of the best coffee shops in Chicago and certainly the best in Rogers Park. Worth an extra walk from campus. Pies and quiches are homemade, too. Check it out!
Really friendly staff! Quick service and delicious coffee. Raspberry mocha is great.
Nice place; however, some staff might need help going over their job description. I was told on Tues afternoon that we could not have shakes because she was making a lot today and that her neck and wrists were hurting.... and that she had to put her health first. Very interesting choice of words for working a espresso and yogurt machine.I dont think most businesses would be ok with their staff not making items on the menu. My advice to her would be to take a sick day if needed, wear a hand brace, or find a new job that is less physical. I could only imagine what would happen if I told my boss that I would not part of my job.
Delicious menu, quiet with tons of seating, friendly baristas, accessible, clean
I love itCoffee is wonderfulThere is one guy there with brownish hair that has a very cold hardedned disposition that makes me uneasy . Thats about it. But a great coffee shop. Love the owner, wish she was there more often instead of him. Lol.
This is my first time coming here and it was very pleasant. I plan on coming back. My coffee was good and so was the atmosphere.
Stopped in for a treat on my way home and honestly was shocked; best pecan pie Ive ever had!!! Glad I decided to stop, Ill definitely be back!
Very friendly people. Breakfast sandwich is delicious!
Their drinks are great and youre always given great service. Definitely recommend this place.
Great neighborhood spot. Excellent breakfast foods and snacks with a super friendly staff.
Had a great sandwich and iced tea here. good location and friendly workers
Friendly little Mom & Pop operation. Almost entirely friendly staff. Popular with the locals.
Cute coffee shop but the coffee and food is just ok.
Nice quiet place to sit, drink coffee, work on your computer, talk with friends. Good friendly baristas!
Good breakfast sandwiches and pumpkin bread, good coffee, good atmosphere. the wi-fi could use a serious upgrade tho. i get extremely inconsistent connection speeds in there, punable to stream music or even access a webpage.
Great service, great food and coffee, easy place to work when Im not in my office.
This coffee house is where I get my daily fix since I moved here in Chicago in 2008 - good coffee, delicious pantries and now they got several yummy vegan treats.
Decent coffee. Really deserving of 3.5 stars, however the service isnt the fastest or most friendly.
I love coming in and hanging out for a while. The staff is friendly and its a great spot in the neighborhood.
Nice relaxed atmosphere, inoffensive music, nice but slow staff, DELICIOUS baked goods and ok coffee.
Lively, local coffee shop rooted in the heart of Rogers Park. Great coffee and friendly people!
I was kicked out after 5 minutes because I didnt buy anything immediately. I wasnt causing any problems, in fact I was the only one in the cafe. Incredibly rude customer service unlike anything Ive ever experienced in a cafe or coffee shop.
Friendly service. Great coffee. Tasty pastries
Good place. Wish it was open later. The service is ok not amazing. Wish they were more smiley but it doesnt seem to be their style. Food was good to me. Simple but good. Printer available and good wifi.
Scrummy espresso-based drinks. There is a busier space by the bar and entrance and an additional room for people who are working.
Great place to get a cup of tea and or coffee and get some work done.
The coffee, food, and service at the Common Cup are always top-notch. My kids and I love going there for our weekly breakfast date.
Quite likely the best freakin piece o quiche Ive ever had. The cappuccino and Café au lait I had were delicious as well. The people - both staff and fellow patrons were friendly and welcoming.
