If you havent stopped by Mindys on the weekends for their current walk up offering, your missing out on some of the best pastries Chicago has to offer.
Best bagels Ive had so far in the city, but you gotta get there early when theyre still fresh. Also worth it for the tub of giardiniera cream cheese - enough to take home and keep as a spread for future bagels. The gluten-free danish is incredible and probably the best pastry Ive had in recent memory.
Hot chocolate here is absolutely amazing. Very rich. You can probably share a cup of with a friend or two. I had the hash for breakfast and it’s everything you’d expect and then some from a pot roast and potato hash, down to the perfectly cooked egg. Loved the entire experience here. Just visiting for the weekend but will definitely come back next time I’m in town.
Friendly service, awesome selection of bake goods. We should have done some research before going tho. Dining in not option at the moment. Take out service.
One of the best bakeries in Chicago for your classic pastries. Almost reminds me of Europe. Truly a treat!!I love the coffee cake, caramelized onion biali, and cookies, but lets be real you cant really go wrong...
The food is great but the restaurant has issues. When I arrived I was told we had to wait 45 min to get a table. But I noticed there were 5 empty tables. 10 min passed and noticed not one person was placed in this open space while a large pile of people accumulated by the door waiting to be seated. The hostess floated around and didn’t see the urgency or need to seat people. This was terribly annoying for me and all the people waiting. Eventually we did get seated and I noticed at all times at least 2 tables were open, usually 3. The long wait times felt artificial to say the least. Maybe they want to be ready if Obama and Oprah both wanted to show up at the same time. Regardless it hurt my experience there. The bartender was great and the cooks did an amazing job. The rest of the service wasn’t great.
Cured Salmon BagelTthis place has THE BEST hot chocolate weve ever got our hands on. Not only that, they have so many varieties of it, they might as well make a separate menu just for hot chocolates. And,by the way, thats just a start, the food here is super delicious too. Pick anything on the menu, youre guaranteed for a treat.𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞The Salmon bagel we ordered was one such delightful treat. Fresh, healthy and delicious. Chive cream cheese spread over a Sesame bagel, topped with citrus cured Salmon, farm cucumbers, red onions, pea shoots, and caper berries. The bagel - perfectly crusty; the salmon - perfectly citrusy. There are a lot of other healthy options as well. Also, for those who care, the ingredients are locally sourced. You know what, we wont do justice if we didnt mention their pancakes and French toast. If you go there with a group, please order those. Again, one of the best weve ever had. They have other desserts too, we were too full to try them, but were more than convinced theyd be great. The neighborhood itself, not just the cafe, is very lively. If you ate too much (which you will), just walk around the block. Its worth the time.
Great delicious products, very well organized staff and amazing service. We are there every weekend:)
The hot chocolate is good but it’s not as thick as LA Burdick. It’s also more expensive and doesn’t include white chocolate. The names on the menu really truly to be fancier than they really are. For example, the coffee cake has cheesecake under its description and there was nothing remotely close to cheesecake in the coffee cake. The quiche was filled with potatoes. >_> like why? The burger is good but the coleslaw was eh. The salad was okay. But it’s just weird when the dressing gets on the quiche. It came pretty quickly though. The chips didn’t have salt but the waitress was able to get it afterwards in a salt grinder thing. But since it’s really packed in here, it did take a while for her to get us some help. Tbh, I wouldn’t come back here for the hot chocolate. I think you could easily melt some Belgian chocolate in milk in a pan on the stove and get the same result. The general overhyped feeling turns me off and I’m probably not going to come back.
I frequented the old Revival location when I worked downtown and their plain bagel is the best bagel you will ever have! Donuts are also fantastic.
We came for hot chocolate, so I cant rate the food. It is a cold late Saturday night, after ten oclock. There is plenty of meter street parking outside (free after 10) and the room inside has thinned out too. We get a table along the wall, where there is bench seating with a chair on the outside for maximizing the space, they also have tables and chairs too. Its dark inside with music playing in the background. We did see the regular menu. They seem to offer good variety of seafood options, s vegan choice, as well as other tasty options. Seems like the dessert menu gets changed monthly. There menu for hot chocolate must be between 6 - 8 different types. I had 70% dark chocolate, which tasted like I was eating a candy bar. It comes with a home made marshmallow on the side. My friend had hot chocolate with butterscotch. It you like butterscotch you will really like this. My only wish is that the hot chocolates came hotter. I personally dont want to spend half hour waiting for to cool down enough to sip and burn my tongue but, only the first two sips were warm. We wanted something to warm ourselves up. Again it could be because it was late and knew we could hang out long that they served it tepid. Servers were friendly especially since it was almost 50 minutes before closing.
We went here for dessert. Very hip and chill vibes. The old fashion hot chocolate was to die for. Very decadent and rich. Was a dessert in it’s self. Our wives got the chocolate pie. They thought it was good but a little over priced. The triple vanilla ice cream was very flavorful but again a little pricey for a scoop of ice cream.
Once upon a time where I had the greatest hot chocolate ever. This is another gem of the city. If you are wanting a cool vibe with sweets, brunch, and superb hot chocolate this place is a must. Hot chocolate is unexplainable. Dont compare this to your local coffee shop. You have to taste to experience the richness of the drink and the desserts are fantastic. Please go check this out and get an old fashioned
We came to try some dinner items and dessert (duh). In the past, I’ve only ever had dessert or hot chocolate. Our table ordered the burger, the chicken sandwich. Both were really good and one of the best buns I’ve had. The chicken was good and all the flavors worked so nice together. I’m not sure which one I’d choose next time because I enjoyed both so much.We also tried a few appetizers. The cheddar biscuits were good, but the overly sweet butter sauce didn’t work. The cauliflower had mixed reviews at the table; I really liked it but others really didn’t like it. The arancini was fine. The biggest disappointment was dessert. The only dessert items on the menu were different ice cream flavors. Apparently it will be like that for the month. And next month will be a different dessert theme. So we skipped dessert. Disappointing.Overall, the service was great. But I don’t really want to return until the dessert menu offers baked items again.
There is nothing much to say about the hot chocolate a Mindys. Seriously, I do not think it is necessary to describe how it tasted or what the flavors were, simply because it was the best. If this is not the best hot chocolate in the whole wide world, honestly I have no idea how the best will be. Even though the hot chocolate was pricey, it was definitely literally worth it. The Medium with milk chocolate or the Dark with 72% French dark chocolate were all delicious and heavenly, the Old Fashion with medium hot chocolate, cocoa nib whipped ganache, and house-made square marshmallow was divine, incredible, and unforgettable.
You cant go wrong with anything on the menu, but the black russian bagels are a must-have. Be sure to get there early!
It’s a lovely little place with yummy food and decadent desserts.I took a couple friends there a few weeks ago, one who was visiting from abroad. We shared a hot chocolate and 2 desserts. The Mexican hot chocolate wasn’t overly rich and my friends enjoyed the flavor. I thought since they charged a few bucks to split the hot chocolate, they could split it 3 ways. But they didn’t allow that, which we thought was weird since we were paying to split it anyways. The other two desserts were overly rich, but that was expected since we went specifically for dessert. The cake with raspberry sauce was the best, with a lighter/tart flavor to balance the sweetness and richness. We didn’t finish any of the desserts because it was too much for us.The problem arrived the next morning for me. I had the runs for 2 days after my last visit. It was more inconvenience from having to stay near a bathroom than a physical pain, but unexpected and unpleasant nonetheless. I have not had tummy troubles following my past meals of cooked food, so I’m going to say this time was a fluke. Unpleasant nonetheless.
Full disclosure, this is more of a placeholder rating than a sincere review. We went there after having a late dinner. The dessert was so good but so rich, so I dont feel like I can comment too harshly or positively on it. From the amount I could eat, I really enjoyed it. The dark hot chocolate was super rich and tasty. The chocolate chip pan cookies was also good. But again, i could only have about half of them.
This by far is one of the worst places I have been to. Lets start this off..1. No one in your party is allowed to sit down at your reserved table unless the entire party has shown up..thats stupid.2. The food tasted like frozen desserts from your local grocery3. The hot chocolate was way too sweet and didnt even taste like chocolate at all. Nesquik tastes better.4. The prices for the items were way too high. $13 for a tiny dessertThe only positive thing was the decor. It had a relaxed vibe with toned down lights.
Great bagels! mouthwatering selection of baked goods. muggins and i ran up quite the tab here and it was totally worth it. also, bring your 4-legged amigos because they give em treats! it looked so good, i wanted to eat it myself. that would not have been fair to wally boy though.
The perfect place for that rainy weekend afternoon when you are craving for some great comfort food! Make sure you start off right ordering one or multiple of their delicious hot chocolates - we tried the medium and the eggnog and they were both amazing! Then indulge yourself with their chorizo queso fundido (yummy to say the least) and their breakfast burrata. I’m pretty sure this meal will make you feel like it’s warm and sunny outside.
Talk about AMAZING hot chocolate! It tastes like you’re drinking the inside of a molten lava cake. It’s so rich but once you start drinking it you can’t stop. We’ve stopped here twice. Once for the just the hot chocolate and we came back to get dinner along with more chocolate. The food is also great! It’s a bit in the pricey side but totally worth it!Service is great!
Came here because we heard nothing but rave reviews; but were quite disappointed with the hot chocolate and the caramel popcorn we ordered. The popcorn was so stale, and our hot chocolate was too rich. The ambiance is nice but I wouldnt come here again was quite overpriced for so so drinks and dessert.
Quick & easy pick up. The line moved fast on a Sunday morning. The chocolate fudge babka was crunchy and soft all at the same time. The chocolate ganache tart was rich without being overly complex. Will go again.
You thought deciding what career path you should take was tough? Prepare yourself for one of the toughest decisions of your life: What to get at mindys? You make a line and mentally prepare yourself to keep calm and be sure of yourself to know what you’re going to get. All that goes out the window once you get closer to the decision making point and see all the baked goods. There is one thing that brings comfort: whatever you get it will be great.Enjoy!
I really didnt care for bagels until I tried theres! The almond croissant was also amazing!
Great hot chocolate, Burger could be better. Anything dessert is delicious and definitely worth the order. The burger patty was a little too dense and somewhat crumbly the cheese was cooled and congealed and overall the burger was somewhat unpleasant although the bun was good. The coleslaw on the side was okay and the squirt bottle of ketchup was very cute.
5 stars for a simplistic ambience and the experience and service I got from my 3 visits in just one week. I can only comment for the hot chocolates: Not like the best ones so far but still their hot chocolate with the whiskey shot was worth the money ($8). Ideal place for a first date or if you are dating yourself!!! Small suggestion: Can you please have something on the lines of sea salt caramel HC. Thatd be a killer one for me to visit even more often!!
Picked up bakery goods for breakfast and everything was amazing. Hot chocolate is what Mindy’s is known for but the muffins, rugelach cookies, mini coffee cake, and cinnamon rolls were to die for! I really don’t think you can go wrong with anything from here!
Came here on a freezing Chicago night and it was super packed. Wait time for a table of 2 on a Thursday night was 40 mins but it was worth it. We got the Dark hot chocolate and the apple Cinnamon crumble dessert. The hot chocolate was heavenly highly recommended if you like dark chocolate and a dash of bitterness. It comes with a homemade marshmallow. The dessert was so good as well, not too sweet.
One of my favorite places in Chicago, I have been to the restaurant a few times before they transformed it into a bakery. Mindy’s hot chocolate is the best you could ever find. They have quite the variety, trust me when I say this especially to all those who love chocolates like I do; I cannot stop myself but repeat that their hot chocolate is heavenly. My favorites are medium, old fashioned, dark and Mexican. I can’t wait to try their other varieties.
Loved this place! We went at night with a pretty large group and got seating fairly quickly. The service was top notch and the waitress was quick to address any questions. Had the PB&J and honestly can say Ive never had anything like it. Tasted just like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich but the presentation was so much different than what I expected. Overall a little pricey but definitely worth it for the experience.
This place was highly rated over their hot chocolate, so a friend of mine and I went to try it since we were in the neighborhood. The hot chocolate comes with a marshmallow to swirl around in our chocolates...nice touch. Hot chocolate was good bit much too rich for my taste. Ill come back to try the food and have a Churro & Chocolate brew but Ill pass on the hot chocolate.
Must must try! Best hot chocolate of my life!
For my birthday, all I wanted was a fancy hot chocolate! This hot chocolate was soooo good - incredibly rich. Seriously like a melted chocolate bar! My husband and I both had the Mexican one. The homemade marshmallow is to die for, and they even put a candle in mine for my birthday. The downfall of Mindys is the crazy expensive price. It was $8 per mug, and a $3 split charge if sharing. We brought home a LOT leftover because it was so rich we couldnt finish it. $23 total seems excessive for hot chocolate, but it was a good treat.
I have been to Mindys bakery twice since it has reopened and I am blown away by the friendliness of the staff and the quality of the baked goods. Everything she has made to share with us is uniquely delicious and I find myself craving her special take on a savory croissant every morning! To her team: thanks for reopening and spreading some love during this pandemic!
Fantastic, fresh baked goods. If you order ahead online, you dont need to wait in the (often very long) line on weekends.
I love HotChocolate and if youre looking for THE best (repeat: THE best) desserts, you need to visit. And if you havent tried the Butterscotch Hot Chocolate, good goodness, you are missing out. Really, the atmosphere, the food, but especially the baked goods are magic. The cookie bars are drool-worthy and Mindy is a legend in Chicago. You do not want to miss this quintessential Chicago establishment!
We discovered Hot Chocolate at Revival Food Hall and sampled chocolate thumb print cookies filled with chocolate ganache, peanut butter cookies, pear and smoked almond danish and vegan banana bread. ALL including the vegan were beyond delicious!!!That led us to skip over all the restaurants in downtown Chicago to have dinner at THE Hot Chocolate tonight.Oh my....EVERYTHING was just perfect! We had Mimolette Hushpuppies with Apple Butter (the best tasted so far), Baby Carrots, Crispy Chicken Thighs and Polenta (thighs were crispy, polenta-creamy and sauce was light and seasoned right), Fried Chicken with House Potato Chips as a substitute for potato salad because we dont eat mayo. Oh, the biscuits were light inside and slightly crunchy outside. And we finished by having peanut butter milkshake, chocolate pie and apples and cinnamon cobbler. We left full and satisfied, and thanks to our waitress, Caitria, wed do it ALL OVER AGAIN!!
Nice hot chocolate!
I was craving a really good hot chocolate, ideally with great whip cream. I got the old fashioned. This didnt hit the spot. Very very rich and thick. After 10 sips I didnt want more. No whip cream. They put some type of marshmallow in it but it quickly melted anyways. The ganache was the best part. If it was $5 Id give it 4 stars but $10??? Disappointing.
Best dessert on earth. Nothing else to say!
The Old Fashioned hot chocolate was creamy and delicious!
Its OK. Hot chocolate is very rich and marshmallows appear homemade but the hot chocolate was almost too rich. Tip: dont finish before you get your food or you will be too full. Food was decent, however French toast would have been flavorless without the toppings. Sausage was crispy which isnt my preference, although tasted good. Service was beyond slow... 5-10min in between times for our server to show up. It took 10min to get our check... I get it, youre busy, but either hire more staff or more competent staff. The kitchen was fast and you could see plates all lined up ready to go out.
Nice place to stop for a hot chocolate on a cold day.
Only came in for the cinnamon donuts and hot chocolate, so I cant speak to the menu as a whole. The place has a neat vibe and the staff were friendly. The donuts were great, but the hot chocolate was really rich. It tasted great, but Id maybe cur it with some milk next time. Is have probably given 5 stars, but they are very proud of their offerings. Two hot chocolates and one order of donuts totaled $27 before tip.
Nice people, great food, easy process
To die for will be back again and again.
Heard so much about this place and I was blown away with the freshness, taste and quality of the baked goods.
Service really slow. Asked if hot chocolate was too sweet and was told that its less then normal hot chocolate. It indeed was too sweet and rich. So overbearingly sweet and rich, couldnt even get through half of it. Also too pricey for hot chocolate. So disappointing. And small miniscule ice cream scoops for $12. I mean they were great flavors but definitely not worth the hype.
This place is AMAZING. Their menu changes with the seasons and every new dish weve tried has been exceptional. Their desserts are drool worthy. Their hot chocolate drinks are the best Ive ever had in my life. The environment is dark and romantic. Kids are welcome, but my husband and I usually go their as a date night without kids. If I had to choose one place for a date night and that was the only place I could go to for thr rest of life, this would be it.
Amazing hot chocolate and best Mac n cheese! Seasonal menus always have new and delicious items. Have yet to have a bad experience here (and I suspect I never will)! Personable and attentive staff and very clean facility.
The richest, most delicious hot chocolate I’ve probably had in my life. Absolutely amazing. Their grilled cheese is good too.
What an amazing Hot Chocolate!! Little so unhealthy though but it was the best one.
Boozy hot chocolate here is a win!
What can I say but “hot” ...!
The chicken sandwich is a must order item and the octopus was superb as well. The crispy chicken thighs and gnocchi I would NOT order. The dessert is of course amazing as well so be sure to get the ice cream sampler!
