Dr. Herba was great! Very friendly and personable. He explains thing clearly. Emily took her time with me trying on glasses. She gave me great tips and helped me find glasses that fit correctly. All the ladies that were working were very friendly. Great staff! A+++

I usually hate going to any kind of doctor but this was actually a great experience! Dr Herba was super nice, very informative, and made me feel more comfortable than Ive ever felt in any Drs office. Dr. Joseph Herba and his staff, Karen, Kaitlyn, Amy, and Madison are the absolute BEST!!!!! Dr. Herba is super nice and extremely knowledgeable. He is not in a rush and takes the time to explain every detail to you. He is polite and welcomes any questions you may have. The staff is extremely nice and helpful. They, too, are very knowledgeable. They printed out the receipt and explained the charges and described what costs the insurance company would be responsible for. The process is very good, with little waiting time to be seen. Having a retina checking machine offers a great benefit. Dr. Herba offers a thorough exam to keep you informed on your eyes overall health.

They were operating under a different optical group previously, but have made a seamless transition to Shopko. I had failed all the eye tests at school and went to several other eye doctors who said nothing was wrong with my eyes, I was faking. I was so discouraged that I would never see better than I did, until I met Dr. Herba. He changed my life! He diagnosed me with optic nerve atrophy and a stigmatism. He has worked with me and helped me see so much better, like I was seeing the world for the first time. I saw i.dividual leaves, not green blobs. I have moved around for the last 12 years and always find my way back to see him for an exam. I havent found anyone else like him. I highly recommend Dr. Herba. I cant thank him enough!

Dr. Herba was very friendly and thorough. He explained the pictures of my eye, and I learned things about the picture of my eye that I didnt know. Even with this place not being in my network, it was still affordable. I was still able to save a significant amount of money on the cost of the lenses for my glasses. This is particularly important because I have very poor eyesight. The staff was not rushed helping me get my current glasses fixed and even changed the nose pads to make my glasses more comfortable. Thank you for this being a positive experience

Took his time with the very thorough exam, even explained my floater issue....with props! And LOVED his analogy of Shopko in Crystal Lake terms. Would HIGHLY recommend coming here if you are in need of any type of glasses (Amy, the customer service Wonder Woman, even fixed the nose piece on my 8 year old prescription sunglasses!) I was in need of a new prescription and was not going to return to where I previously had gone. While searching for a new optometrist, I came across Shopco Optical. Having never heard of them, I decided to look at their reviews before calling. Five stars across the board from everyone that had graciously left their reviews. I was impressed and decided to call for an appointment. I was NOT disappointed. I cannot say enough about Dr. Herba. His warmth and professionalism is hands down wonderful. His staff is AMAZING!! Weronika is as delightful as she is knowledgeable. I had several staff memebers give me their opinions of how my glasses looked and I couldnt be happier with my choices. If I could give them more than 5 stars, I would have.

Everything about visiting Shopko Optical in Crystal Lake was great. The office is bright and welcoming, and Dr. Herba is so upbeat and patient. He educates his patients about their specific vision problems and offers options for treatment. Optician Weronika saved me a lot of time as she helped me select my new frames from a huge selection and then educated me about the various types of lenses to choose from and how they would meet my needs. I think the prices are very reasonable.

I went in with my boyfriend to see Dr. Herba for his exam and made plans to get an exam later. They took me in right away instead! Absolutely wonderful, incredibly helpful and didn’t force anything on me. I mentioned I have a bigger head and Katlyn helped me find the perfect pair of glasses without judging. Dr. Herba was incredibly kind and informative at my appointment. I learned more about my eyes than I have with any other optometrist prior. And when I needed new prescription glasses, the ladies spent so much time with me to pick out a new pair. The glasses I ended up getting look so much better and fit better than my previous glasses. They also take most insurance and are transparent on prices if you are uninsured. Definitely recommend.

Dr. Herba broke the news to me gently that I’m getting older and with that comes the need for some occasional help in the form of glasses. He took the time to explain what was going on and why as well as stressing the importance of not relying on the glasses I was being prescribed.
