Little Shop is one of the great places to visit in Decatur, GA. They’ve served the area for decades with a great selection of books for every family member, not just kids. But, for children’s books, they are the best you’ll find. They make terrific suggestions when you ask for something appropriate and wonderful for children of certain ages and interests or for people of any age, for that matter. You’ll never be stuck without a great gift. They’re wonderfully community minded and sponsor excellent book clubs for all ages.
Hands down the best staff around! There is no book that cant find and have enriched my sons collection more than any chain store could. You have to go explore with your little ones.
This is an amazing local bookstore you’ll have a hard time finding anywhere else. They truly care about their little shop and the authors that support it. I had an amazing experience my first time there when I got to meet an author who was doing a book signing back in March. The owner of the store gave me a gift card that was just enough to buy the new book and get it signed, he even waived off taxes for the sale. I feel horrible for not having left a review for months on end and it has haunted me ever since until now.I have nothing but positive things to say about this little shop, I truly hope they stay here for years on end.
Amazing local bookstore. They have adult, teen and all ages and stages of kids books, gifts, quiet activities and more. They will purchase anything they dont have. They also host birthday parties, summer camps, and other events. Great place for gift cards or birthday gifts.
Little Shop of Stories is the cutest local bookstore. They have a great selection of children’s books, young adult books, and books for adults. They have regularly scheduled book signings with authors and illustrators, but you have to purchase the book there in order to get it signed. Check out their website for their author and illustrator signing events. They have entertainment for the kids, with a little playroom with a toy train set and other toys. It is decorated like the book “Goodnight Moon”. The rest of the store is colorful and bright, with cute and thoughtful decor. They have a fake Platform 9 3/4 made by a local artist. Part of the floor is covered in pennies, which is very cool.Their prices are definitely higher than what you’d find on Amazon, but it’s a local bookstore, so I’m usually willing to spend a few extra dollars to support it.Highly recommend!
Little Shop of Stories is a delight! This place is my go to for kids books and my own adult/YA purchases. I asked for science books for 5 year olds and the person helping me was awesome! My nephew loved the books he got. So much better than my recent B&N trip, where the staff was either clearly unhappy or trying to upsell. I will support LSoS always 💜.
My kids absolutely fell in love with this book store.
This was one of the places we were most looking forward to going. It had books that Ive never seen at my big box bookstore at home and had great staff that was super helpful. They have a whole room dedicated to a play area like Good Night Moon and have just the greatest collection of stuff. 10/10 would recommend as a family friendly activity for kids of all ages.
My favorite kids bookstore. Very unique, and very helpful staff!
Little Shop of Stories is my favorite independent bookstore in the greater Atlanta. In fact, lets just say its my favorite in all of Georgia. What a terrific place with a fantastic selection of childrens books and an incredibly knowledgeable and helpful staff. Grownups will also find plenty of titles to choose from and I always make sure to stop in and buy something new to read every time I am anywhere near the neighborhood. Go see the amazing collection of unique and personalized artwork by the many childrens authors and illustrators that have visited the store for readings and other special events, which occur with impressive frequency.
Fantastic local book shop! They helped me out with some gift logistics on the fly as my GF was driving to the store to pick up some stuff she had ordered. They were able to drop my gift in with her order and were nothing but helpful and friendly all throughout. I cannot recommend these guys enough!
This place is such a gem. First of all, as a mom having a place to go for a great story time is amazing :) they really put great effort into making it a worthwhile trip. Also, the decor is like stepping into a few of your favorite books and a special treat for kids and parents. Also, their collection of books is amazing. You will find a great book for anyone here !! I love supporting local businesses and this is one you should support.
It is small (its in the name, after all), but there is something for just about everyone here - such a great bookstore,
This little bookshop has provided us with so much joy over the years! We love walking down there and spending time browsing and playing and can’t wait to do it again when it’s safe to do so. We love their selection of kids and adults books!
Been going here since I was 10, and honestly I could spend all my money on books here and not care
Little Shop of Stories has been my saving grace during the pandemic! They quickly adapted to serve their customers online and with pop ups. They are responsive, thoughtful with their recommendations, and overall just AMAZING!
Great local bookshop! They have a large selection and are able to quickly order any book that they don’t have. Friendly and helpful staff. Can’t wait to buy many more books here!
This shop was magical. There is a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It has a fantastic selection of books for children of all ages, a reading book that you enter through Platform 9 3/4, another adorable room to read in or play with the train table, and a beautiful floor made of pennies. You may stop in to buy a book, but youll stay for the experience.
We had an amazing experience today at Little Shop of Stories! Our friends were in town from out of state but due to Covid safety we couldn’t browse inside. Instead, our shopkeeper, Justin, curated books for our kids’ age ranges, brought them outside to our own little table, THEN brought us a goodie bag with knick-knacks and stickers of some of our favorite book characters! WOW. ABOVE AND BEYOND! This little shop always exceed our expectations!!
This place was described to me as a large store that featured mattresses, cushions, braces and other orthopedic support items. Dont let the name fool you, a friend said. Imagine my dismay! I called him, furious, soon after realizing that the spacious emporium of quasi-medical devices I had pictured in my head was in fact nothing but a room full of books! I asked him indignantly how he dare toy with me so, but his answer was incomprehensible, mixed as it was with snorts and howls of laughter. May his judgment be swift and harsh, o Lord!
I LOVE Little Shop! They have an amazingly curated selection of adult literature in addition to all the kids books. I always end up leaving with a book or two for myself, in addition to something for my kids. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. They have great events and are really involved in the community. It’s a great place to shop for a birthday gift for a kid or an adult. This bookstore is a happy vibrant place and we are lucky to have them here in Decatur!
Wonderful little book shop. We visited for a book signing, and it was great. A few people got upset because they didnt read the instructions regarding the signing times etc. but the staff, and the manager in particular, were fantastic about keeping everything organized and flowing. And the manager was admirable when kept his cool with rude folks. The shop is quaint, but has a great selection.
Little Shop is the Goliath of little book stores. Their store has a fun, kid-friendly vibe and suggestions to find your perfect read, but their true strength is their literacy-based outreach. They host author events in store and in the community as well as community programs to promote reading for all ages. They also host book clubs and some of the most sought-after summer camps in Decatur. Come for a good book, leave knowing youve supported the book industry, local business, and literacy!
My absolute favorite childrens book shop. They carry a finely curated selection- its just a delight to browse the shelves. I also love their recommendations as well. On several occasions Ive placed an order over the phone for curbside pick up and my children have loved the books they picked for us!
Even with the sales floor closed by the pandemic, the staff is very helpful with recommendations via email and phone. It still feels like the personalized local book store experience. Can’t wait until we can browse in-person again!
Little Shop is basically our second home! Great staff, great location, and great events. Check out Decaturs finest indie bookseller!
Great selection of books! Wonderful and helpful staff!
Good service even during the pandemic. Will continue to support.
Our first visit was amazing! I took our two year old on Thursday for circle time at 11am, and I cant wait to take him back again. The reader was so good, he did all the voices in the books and my son really enjoyed it. Bubble time was his favorite, and the songs were mine! The store itself is packed with great kids books and a little play area with a twin table. The room is even made to look like the room in Goodnight Moon.We plan on returning tomorrow for more story/circle time! Thank you, Little Shop of Stories, for such a great outing with my boy!
Fantastic independent book store! We went for a childs birthday party in the upstairs area, and they provided a book reader/story teller who the kids loved. We took the time to look around the store afterwards, and found items for kids and parents alike. The staff is very engaging and love to help you find your next favorite read. What a perfect place to shop local!
Several recent reviews of this bookstore, which detail the events of the recent StacyPlays book signing event hosted by this store, attempt to place the blame for the disappointment of a number of attendees on those attendees for their lack of reading the emails sent out by the store regarding updates to the event. Those people seem to not have the full story and as one of those people who feel very disappointed for their kids having missed the event, I have to speak up and clarify that the blame for this lies solely on this store and the events coordinators. My wife and I have never been to a book signing event before, nor do we live near this particular store with it being over an hour away, so this was our first (and last..) trip to this location. We read ALL the information posted on their website regarding the event, including the time(!) it began. We did this several weeks before the event, several days before the event, and again the day of the event. There were NO updates of any kind posted to their website regarding waves of start times. We purchased our tickets for the event the day before it took place. We received NO emails regarding any sort of tiered waves of start times before the event began. Why did we not receive any emails? Well, because they only sent that email out once and only several days before the event. Anyone who signed up for the event in the final days leading up to it would have no way of knowing that the store had implemented the tiered start times. We got to the event shortly before the posted start time and were in line with about 30-40 people ahead of us when the store manager(?) Justin came out and announced the deal with the start times. That was our first time hearing about it. It wasnt because we didnt read our emails. We received NO emails. My wife went in to the store and confirmed with Justin that the emails were only sent out several days prior to the event, and only once, so we would have had no communication from them about it. He also told my wife that we would need to wait approximately two and a half hours until everyone else had gone before our wave would be allowed in. With prior commitments that evening, we couldnt stick around that long.In the end, we drove two hours, paid $5 for parking, and left with two very disappointed young girls, not because we didnt read our emails or read updates about the event on the website, but because they failed to post them, or any really, in a timely manner leading up to the event. You would think with the most recently registered people being affected the most with the changes to the start times, the store would have had the courtesy to send those people an email hours before, or at least day of, the event to make sure they knew of the changes, but we got nothing.I cannot, in all honesty and good faith, say that we will ever return to this location, nor can I recommend their book signing events to anyone else after the experience we just had. Very disappointed...
My kids love coming here. Great book store that is an asset to the community. They do cool events and readings for kids which is great. A huge selection with a variety of books to choose from that you will definitely find something you will like and they are very reasonably priced. They also do birthday parties which are a great switch up from what you normally see and very accomdating staff. A cool little play room for kids. They also have great and unique cards for birthdays and much more. Would highly recommend this place
Love this book store! The story times are great. My toddler had been going since he was 6 months old and never gets bored. The story time for little kids has a great mix of songs, stories, and interactive activities !
Warm, friendly staff and a good selection. The staff are happy to either help you or let you browse in peace. Ordered books come very quickly.
Such an amazing selection of books! I especially love that they include lots of diverse childrens books so kids can see themselves in stories and learn about different people.
Nice bookstore on the square. Great for kids. Small selection compared to the book giants (if they still exist) but great atmosphere and refined selection.
My kids were gifted a one year- book per month from Little Shop of Stories and it’s been the coolest gift hands down. Diane puts thought and care into the books she chooses each month for each child and her book selection is awesome. Many thanks!
Great selection of books for kids and adults. Not a warehouse sized space - small enough that you can let your kids explore and big enough for a broad range of thoughtfully chosen books. Good for toddlers up to adults. Has a big upstairs birthday party space and a downstairs play room for small children. Very friendly staff. Very good place to shop for gifts because the staff has great ideas and is very happy to help.
My daughter and I had an amazing experience in this book store. The staff are all so happy and pleasant. The shop its self is beautifully design and unique. We thank you all for a wonderful experience!
Excellent gift shop for children of all ages and even for adults. They even gift wrap your packages perfectly and anyone who gets a gift card or gift from the store instantly smiles if they already know about the place! Also a wonderful reading area designed to look like the room in Goodnight Moon and a few other spots to sit and read.
Love this place for the people, decor, and events. Its the best book store Ive ever been to! Weve joined book clubs; attended book signings, and one of the On The Same Page events. Theyre fantastic!
First off: It does not close at 4:00. Im told by the staff that theyve tried to change that listing without success.Little Shop makes Decatur a better city. The selection is excellent, and the service is better than excellent. If they dont have a book on the shelves, theyll order it for you.Little Shop does the book fairs for local public schools, and they do a fantastic job. Theyre involved in many community-related programs. The store itself is inviting. Its bright and cheery, with lots of places to sit and read. There are even two clean bathrooms.Every town needs a store like this.
This was the first time we had visited and it is truly a gem. I love local book stores and this one went way above my expectations. The store is so whimsical and invites guests to explore every nook and cranny of the store. Kids are mesmerised by all the displays and books on their level. There is a separate room area where one of the walls is painted to resemble Platform 1 3/4 from Harry Potter. You can pass through the wall and end up in the room from Goodnight Moon. I honestly cant say enough about this shop, its magical for any bookworms and even those who arent. Apparently there is also an upstairs area that we didnt see due to a camp being held up there. What would be better than a book camp?? I wish we had those when I was growing up!!
Fun and eclectic shop. I loved the positive vibes and philosophies presented by the titles and other items in stock. Ample childrens section and high quality collection.
What an amazing local gem!! I visited today for the first time with my son and attended story time. It was fantastic, and the store itself is the best local bookstore Ive seen. They have a big selection, its well organized, and they have an adorable space for kids to play while parents browse and shop. The play space looks exactly like the room from Goodnight Moon. Im already trying to figure out when I can go back kid-free to actually shop!
Little Shop of Stories was an amazing book store located near the Fernbank Museum. I had the pleasure of celebrating a friends Harry Potter themed graduation here. They have a Platform 9 and 3/4 tucked away for events, childrens reading times and more. The customer service was amazing. Plus, the variety of genres they had available was great for what appeared to be a small nook. Its much bigger than it seems! I would definitely recommend Little Shop of Stories to any body interested in a bit of book discovery!
I love, love, love this book store!! They have a lovely, warm space with a great selection of childrens and adult books. They specialize in childrens books, but they do sell adult stuff also. While the adult selection isnt huge, its very well curated. All of the staff there are friendly and knowledgeable and I trust their recommendations. Its exactly what you want a neighborhood bookshop to be.
I came for the first time yesterday. This is a great bookstore and we were treated warmly by staff except for one male employee that made us feel unwelcome. My daughter is turning 5, and he kept making comments about how she was holding the stuffed animal I was going to buy for her for her birthday (“don’t hold by the tag.” 10 min later ...“Still holding by the tag”). I felt unwelcome and it was bizarre so we paid and left sooner than we’d intended. Honestly would have stayed and bought more stuff but felt hurried out.
Excellent bookstore. Mostly filled with childrens books, it also has a small adult section with novels, poetry, and lifestyle books. If you are looking for an original gift, go here! The staff is also very helpful, and give good recommendation. I recently bought a coffee-table style cooking book and when I mentioned it was for a gift, they offered to order me a new one.The kids books are amazing, with original titles but also the top reads.
The people here are always so nice! The service is on point! The workers never slack off and they are so dedicated to helping you out! 5/5 would definatly recommend!
Great place for storytime! Engaging and a good crowd. Well decorated shop and good selection as well!
A charming independent bookstore that recently expanded, allowing it to offer an even wider selection of childrens books in a beautiful new childrens area. My toddler loves the Platform 9 3/4 secret tunnel that runs from the childrens area into a room with a train set. They regularly offer programming including author events and do an excellent job hosting these. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable.
We came here for a book signing for Stacyplays (Stacy Hinojosa) and found the store and staff both to be exceptional! They worked hard to make the signing (which had a MASSIVE turnout) go smoothly by dividing fans into color waves. Unfortunately, some fans were upset waiting bc they hadnt bought tickets for the tickets event and would have to wait until the end or they didnt see the emails instructions, but the manager did an exceptional job trying to manage everything. I wish we didnt live 2.5 hours away, but if were ever here again this bookstore will be one of our stops!
The story time was really interactive and fun for my son. You get to meet other parents and their kids. Overall amazing place to shop story books. Didnt get the chance to look around the store but definitely would do it next time
Great place to come book shopping, very friendly staff and have a lot of book signings and other events
This is a very good place to buy books. They have a well-curated selection. When I have extra money I just go in and buy a random book based on the title and/or cover and have only been disappointed once.
By far one of the best story times in Atlanta. Miss Madison is outstanding!!
This small local book store is the best place to buy books in metro Atlanta. They always have stocked shelves and great customer service. They are constantly amazing at finding new books that you will loved based off your previous favorites. They often setup or host events like having guest authors and have a variety of summer camps for the kids.
This place is amazing. Had a great time taking my kids there. They have tons of book with reviews by the staff to help you find something youll love. The kid area is a blast where kids can play with the train or you can read them a book. Highly recommend!
We love this store! Incredibly helpful and knowledgeable staff, tremendous distractions for kids, good grown-up selections, and all-around one if the communitys shining stars. Im particularly impressed by the variety of authors who come by and by the stores partnerships with other community groups. Oh! and its a nice venue for kiddy birthday parties.
This fun little store has recently expanded into another space, so it is much larger. They are very kid friendly, and are great for helping with age-appropriate suggestions for any kids. They also have an event space where they frequently hold public events, and it is available for birthdays or other parties.
Great bookstore but needs a manga collection, theres not one in Decatur besides HPB
This may be my favorite book store. It is cute with the room from Good Night Moon as well as Platform 9 3/4 (Harry Potter ) in back. They had great book recommendations on the shelves and fun books on display.
Everyone was great and very friendly! I didnt find a book, but felt invited and at home every minute I was in the store! Great great customer service!
I’ve been taking my daughter to this bookstore since she learned to walk. She absolutely adores everything about this store from the “Goodnight Moon” themed playroom to the cost free and engaging story times. They have a great selection for children and adults too. This place is a gift to everyone in Atlanta and the surrounding areas.
Wonderful selection, super friendly and comfortable environment. My little ones regularly grab a book and shirt in the couch to read, then pick their favorites. Staff is very knowledgeable.
Best bookstore Ive ever been to. The people there are friendly and take the time and brain space to remeber you once you come a few times. Cute and homey design. Good selection of books.
It the course cutest little book store and a great place to take ur kids.
Great selection, helpful staff, fun environment for kids and adults
My FAVORITE childrens book store. This place has a great selection, lots of diversity in stories, writers and illustrators. And not just the same books youll find at any store or b&n! Some of my best finds have come from here!
Ive literally never had a bad experience here. Everyones always so welcoming and knowledgeable. They do great special events like read-alouds with authors and special themed days. Really special. I love it here.
Really cute independent bookstore. Lots of fun things for kids to do and look at, and good reading options. Staff was very friendly and helpful, and the prices seemed reasonable.
Marvelous bookstore! They are in the middle of expanding so it was under construction but they had such a great variety of childrens books. My friend and I wandered around for at least 45 minutes looking at the new and classic books.
A great looking place! Just wish there was more selections other than that
LOVE THIS STORE!!!! The selection is always awesome, everyone is friendly and most helpful. And the way they jazz up the gift cards is so drlightful!
Such a cute book store. 😍 my toddler loved it. Im not sure if it would attract older kids tho.
Wonderful local bookstore with a great selection of childrens books and very helpful staff.
Totally charming. I believe its primarily a childrens bookstore, but there is a large adult section, too. Loved the ambiance, the decor, and the helpful staff. Everything a local bookstore should be!
Amazing selection and if they dont have it you can order it from them. They have brooks for kids, teens, and adults. The staff is also super helpful.
I had a special need for disability services for an off-site event and visited the store. I received a warm greeting and incredible assistance with my needs.
They are still going out of their way to impact the community and get reads in peoples hands.
Pretty nice place lots of choices of book all ages interactive space space for reading clean organized helpful staff and yes clean restrooms lol biggie for me
This book store is fantastic and the owners and workers engaged and knowledgeable. I have had great success over the years asking for recommendations giving an age of child Im buying for and a few ideas of interests and dislikes. When my child was itty bitty we could spend an hour purusing books and come out with a couple awesome ones. Parties here are fun, and their newsletters informing. I have not shopped much for myself, but they have more and more adult options that I will start spending more time with. LSoS is a gem that I want to support.
Lovely place to buy a book. Friendly staff. I especially liked the Staff Picks where a staff member writes a quick note of why they liked a certain book.
Amazing selection of books that skews towards 16 or under. The adult fiction and non-fiction is great as well though.
A great local bookstore thats mainly geared towards childrens books. However, it has a really great selection of YA and adult books too. They do a lot of events for kids.
The best kept secret where you can buy all your quirky gifts for your friends kid(s).
The go to bookstore for kids. They have a small adult section but it is a kids special place. They have author events as well as hosting birthday parties and story times. They are a Decatur anchor store!
Best book store for kids in the Atlanta area. Locally owned, with a very knowledgeable and friendly staff, and a very good collection of books. They also run several reading groups.
If you like bookstores, youll love The Little Shop of Stories. Its a real community-building place with storytimes, author visits, book clubs, and summer camps. Also a great location to hold your childs birthday party.
Always end up finding something new and charming.Great selection of young adult books and graphic novels that all can appericate when in need of a little help escaping. Wonderment and inspiration from the writen word
