5 star, not only did they service our transmission. They found and repaired a soon a issue that would have left us stranded. These guys are professionals in every sense and offer great service at very reasonable prices.

Had starter go out that’s was replaced earlier this year, they fixed no questions asked. Had to wait several days which hurt because it was primary service vehicle for our company, but everyone that’s working these days busy. I appreciate them getting me back on road as quickly as they could.

I had my Toyota Sienna towed to get Transmission diagnostics because of it slipping.After 3 days I was told they could not find the problem without taking transmissions apart.I chose not to do that and after 3 days I hired a tow truck to pick it up .When I got there I found that my perfectly good battery was completely dead and my vehicle had been sitting unlocked and my drivers side door handle broken.When I complained I was told it was nothing they did.Well thats BS because I know what condition it was in before they received it.They offered no explanation, no apology.Poor customer service and unprofessional.Do not use them.

Rob, checked out my son’s car and gave us a diagnosis. His service was totally professional. He took the time to listen and to speak with me, a worried mom (2hours away) regarding what was going on.

I was referred to come here and get my transmission diagnosis. When I come in first thing in the morning I bring my car and try to get quotes and estimates on just a regular diagnosis. I had a coupon ready to be presented and it seemed like the manager either wasn’t having the best day and carried a an attitude as if he wasn’t Inter in servicing me and my mother. Understanding that he’s human I proceeded to allow him to service me and I leave my car. I then get a quote two days later on the car stating that the damages done to my car would be $3,000 which I’m not complaining about anyone’s prices cause to each it’s own. But he tells me that it wouldn’t take but a couple of days to put the transmission together if I’m able to pay for it but if not then he’ll just put everything back the way it was. I call to tell him that I will not be paying to get the car fixed but the service is definitely appreciated.Fast forward a week later it’s Tuesday, I took the car to the shop on last Thursday. If I were to pay the $3000 he would’ve had my car ready by Friday. But I didn’t request the full service so it seems as though he’s taking his time to return to me because of that. Now I’m out of work for a extra week and not able to mobilize and actually take my car somewhere so it can be fixed. This business has not satisfied me and I understand that businesses are busy but it seems as though if I would’ve payed the $3000 to get It serviced then I would’ve gotten my car back quicker. All that was left to be done is put the transmission parts back together just as they were taken apart. I don’t believe that they deserve business because they’re company values don’t seem to be based off of customer happiness as it seems to be based off of personal values.

Rob is amazing!!! He went above and beyond in helping me get my Ford Focus Se fix. I was have some transmission problems with my car and was getting the run around from somewhere else. He helped me by calling Greene Ford and finding out that Ford had a warranty still on my car and he was really trying to help us save money. Even though we didn’t end up using his business I would recommend this place. You don’t find to many people like Rob who looks out for the customer best interest. I was not from the area when I chose Cottman Transmission and Total Auto Care, they treated me kindly and with respect. They offered a fair timeframe and were quick with their work.

Everything these people charge you for is expensive and then they do I horrible job at doing their job. Went in to get transmission looked at and possibly fixed. Took two weeks to diagnose what was wrong and two more weeks to get the truck back to me. They said I just had no reverse which I already knew so I opted to not have the service done because I found someone with a better price. I get my truck towed pack to my house and it won’t even park!! If you value you’re vehicle DO NOT take it to Cottman.

I have been having transmission issues for a while but put off repairs because I was worried about the cost. My car finally had to have something done and I was referred to Cottman. I called and they worked me in the same day, had a diagnosis for my cars problem and was able to offer financing options. It also was not as expensive as I expected. They were able to complete necessary repairs by the next day and my car has been running really well now!

Great shop! Originally went because I was worried my transmission was having a problem on my 2008 Hyundai Tucson.Not only was my transmission fine but they pointed out all the other stuff another shop said I needed done was ridiculous. All I needed was to replace the left front CB Boot.Save me a ton of money and my car is working great. Went back to them to do a transmission flush and checkup. Highly Recommend

Cottman Transmission was great to deal with. Rob the manager gave it to me straight after they did their diagnostics he said I needed to replace my alternator. I agreed and it was done by the end of the day I brought it in. The very next day my car would not start. I called Rob and we had my car towed at his expense back to shop and it was determined I had a bad cell in my battery. They replaced it and I was on my way.

Took my Subaru in for a transmission code from a check engine light. It was covered by an extended warranty, when I took it in they found a wheel bearing was going bad so they replaced the wheel bearing and valve body in the transmission, took them no time at all and we got the car back 1/2 a day later. Great work and super professional all around

I was referred to Cottman by Precision Tune because of what they thought was transmission problems. Rob was able to get me in within 24 of calling to get a diagnosis of my Jeep. I was in and out within an hour and a half with the problem being my transfer case on my Jeep. Rob ordered the transfer case for me and it came like 2 days longer. I thought I was financially ready but wasnt so I had to wait like 8 days after Rob had already ordered my part he was extremely patient with me during that time. I dropped my car off at 8:30 by 12:20 I was leaving with a quieter truck. I wanna thank Rob and his team for the great job they did on my truck.

I just picked up my car today from cottman transmission and Total Auto Care of Greensboro North Carolina, at first I thought the professionalism of this place was okay when I left if 2 weeks ago. However today I picked the car up and I noticed that someone from this business rambled through my vehicle. I had my registration and other important documents I needed in my sun viser pouch, when I dropped the car off and all of that plus everything in my glove box, had been taken out and thrown into the floor board when I picked it up. there was no need for this, my question is was they looking for something to steal? In addition to this, I never received a call from then telling me what was wrong with the car or if it could be picked up, even though they said they would call. I had to call them. and when I spoke to them they seemed kinda rude on some calls and other fine. Moreover, they said the only leak they found was a oil leak not a transmission leak. so I had to take it else where. In addition, I just had the contents of the vehicle checked, and I have 11 bottles of mobile one transmission fluid missing and a bottle of Lucas. they where in a box in the back seat and the box is not in the car. Avoid theses people at all costs.

They did a fast and efficient job on replacing a bad shift selinoid on my 2001 jeep. Also at a fair price. My only complaint is that someone who works there stole change and a dollar bill from my center console ( they had no reason to open ). I know I should have taken it out but....Anyway when I called the shop to tell them the manager seemed very disinterested in my complaint. It may have only been about 6 or 7 dollars but I would have appreciated it if I had received a apology of some kind or maybe a call back to say something had been said to the employees about it.All he did when I told him was to quickly ask how the Jeep was running and get off that subject ASAP. So overall repairs were great but concerns about the customer was extremely poor....

My husband paid $2800 for a transmission that only lasted 60K miles and they don’t want to extend the warranty. He has never spent that kind of money for a transmission that didn’t work anywhere else. So spend your money somewhere else!!

Lengthy review but I wanted to give precise details of MY visit.Had an issue that I believed to be a slipping transmission. Found Cottman through online search. Took car in the 1st time. I was told the problem was (2) bad sensors and repair would run $700+. Ran fine for 2-3 weeks. Experienced the same issue. Called Cottman. Told to bring vehicle back in. I was told that (1) of the sensors that had been replaced was a dud from the auto parts supplier. Sensor was replaced at no cost. 2 days later. Experienced the same issue except with more frequency. Dropped off vehicle (Sunday). Called on Monday - still checking it. Called Tuesday -- still checking and waiting on a tester to check vehicle computer. Called Wednesday and was told that they had tested the computer and gotten errors showing the issue was with the computer in the vehicle and that I would have to take the vehicle to the Nissan dealer to have it repaired. I took vehicle to Nissan. After quick but thorough inspection, they determined the problem to be from the use of aftermarket replacement sensors. They replaced with genuine Nissan parts and vehicle is working 1+ month later. The cost of the dealership repair bill was only slightly more than 1/2 of what Cottman charged. I called Cottman to state my dissatisfaction with 1) having to bring the vehicle in (3) times for the same issue; 2) being told that results from testing pointed to a bad (and really expensive to replace) computer; 3) being told after the 2nd visit that the part used was a dud; and 4) the cost of repair being approximately twice what the dealership charged and the issue still not being fixed. I was told by the store manager that he would check with his boss to see what could be done. You will notice that there is no reply from Owner in this review because that is the same response that I received from my call. The office manager was very courteous and friendly but at the end of the day, MY experience was 3 trips for a problem that was NOT fixed; misdiagnosis; questionable parts; and being charged twice what the dealership charged to actually fix the problem.UPDATE -- 11/10/2017I received a reply email from the GM of Cottman that said she was reviewing the events in my post and would be in contact. The shop manager called and asked what could be done to make the experience right. I stated that my post did not ask for anything to which he acknowledged that fact and asked again what could be done. I mentioned the remaining balance left on the repair invoice and Cottman agreed to issue a check for the remaining balance in full. I have since received the reimbursement and consider the experience completed and appreciate the efforts made to remedy the situation.

Jody at Cottman Transmission is the most honest mechanic that I have ever met. They inspected my van and could not replicate the problem that I was having. They did not try to sell me anything I did not need, and ask me to bring it back if the problem happened again. The old guy at the desk could use an attitude adjustment, but I feel good saying that you will not be taken advantage of by this shop based on the way they treated me.Update: I went by there yesterday to have my van looked at. Jody no longer works at this location. There are new people working there and I didnt like the impression I got from them. Smells fishy to me, and I am taking my ride elsewhere.

I have a 1992 Lincoln town car to get a new transmission three years ago in the summer of 2014 . After they did their transmission check they recommended I have them rebuild the transmission. My Lincoln is switching gears perfectly to this day. I appreciate it. Customer service was gr8 & the guy at the counter was very informative on the work and answered any questions I had.

HONEST PEOPLE. The biggest problem getting major repairs done on a car is knowing if you are being told the truth and paying a fair price. Took my daughters car to Cottman after another shop said it was lacking power due to a transmission problem and they didnt do transmission work. Cottman tested it, and told me there was nothing wrong with it. They suggested possible causes and where to take it, but they didnt charge me a dime. Wish all places were as trustworthy!

They did a great job. I feel like they were honest (i had talked to a mechanic friend and he diagnosed the same). I thought my transmission was slipping, turned out to be the encoder motor. They replaced it and weve driven it several times since and had no issues. I would definitely take my suburban back. Rob at the front was very friendly and it didnt take them a week to fix it. They fixed it and we got it back the next day. Would highly recommend Cottman of Greensboro to anyone.

Im the third person in my group of friends to use Cottmans. Very fast, easy to get an appointment. And very upfront about what work was being done & the likely results. No false promises, no trying to make more repairs than actually needed either.

We have taken both of our vehicles to Cottmans and had nothing but great results. One issue that we thought was a bad transmission turned out to be just a bad switch that they replaced at a very minimal cost. The other was a transmission replacement but they kept us informed of every step that was going on and confirmed with us before anything was done and letting us know the costs upfront. Most shops dont do that. Rob, Jodie and the guys at Cottman are top-notch. I definitely would recommend them for any transmissions issues you may have to get a fair and honest quote and results.

My car broke down in Greensboro about 1.5 hours away from my home, and the guys at Cottman were so accommodating. I left my car in Greensboro, and they kept it and repaired it, free of charge, until I was able to pick it up.One of the techs, Jody, explained everything to me in detail. When the problem ended up being much simpler than anticipated, he was completely honest and transparent. He didnt try to get me to buy unnecessary parts or charge me in excess for labor. In fact, he didnt charge me AT ALL for the diagnosis or labor!I consider myself very lucky that my car broke down in such a great spot – close to Cottman Transmission. Did not have a good experience. I had my transmission fluid checked, and I drove away. The next morning I was driving my child to school. I heard a loud banging sound, and noticed what look liked steam coming from my hood. Well turned out that they didnt put my transmission cap back on. It got caught by the fan and punctured my radiator. So....not a good experience.

I have a 2006 Toyota Corolla (manual) which finally had to have the clutch replaced after 337K miles.Tim was upfront with the cost and time to have the work done, and called to follow up with me on the service. It ended up costing less that he estimated. The car is running great and I hope to see them in another 337K miles.

I was referred to Cottmans Transmission through a co-worker of mine, who new I was in need of a new transmission or a new car. Rob, the manager, was very professional and kept me updated with everything that was going on with my vehicle at all times. Needless to say, I did not need a new transmission at all. Did a great job replacing my clutch, stuck to the estimate even though the master cylinder failed while they were bleeding the system, said that since it broke in their shop they wouldnt charge me. Very upfront about what they could and couldnt fix. Would definitely recommend for transmission and clutch work.

The NTB tire folks referred me to Cottman for an evaluation (and gave me a free coupon for the evaluation). I also thought I had transmission problems. I sure was relieved to learn that I only need to fix a few things with my regular mechanic, but nothing needed on the transmission side. I was impressed with Cottmans honest evaluation. I had the pleasure of hiring Rob at Cottman Transmission to work on my 1996 Dodge Truck. My transmission was no loger pulling. They test drove the Truck and confirmed the Truck had a transmission problem the same day. They let me know that I had a few other problems that could wait to get fixed at a later date. I was informed through out the whole process from the time we started until I picked the truck up three days later. I made a great decision having Cottman Transmission work on my truck.

BEWARE!!These people are straight crooks,took my car here for a simple fix for the torque converter and they tried to tell me I need a rebuild or another transmission so they could charge me more money, and when I turnt down their services and told them to just put the transmission back in and I go on my merry way.Well when I got the car back it drove worse than when I took it up there, the transmission wont even shift out of first gear now, it was doing fine when it was driven there and on top of that I paid $543 to them to take it out and put it back in, just for them to foul it up worse, i dont know how their are positive reviews, but my experience was different,I should of took heed of when I walked in and it was not that busy at all.HORRIBLE BUSINESS!!! Take your business elsewhere if you value your car!! BTW COTTSMAN I KNOW ABOUT CARS BECAUSE I USE TO BE A MECHANIC AND I KNOW ALL THE GAMES BUSINESSES LIKE YOU RUN TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF UNSUSPECTING CONSUMERS!!!!

Had to have my transmission rebuilt. $3600. I didnt really have a problem with the price. My problem is that my car doesnt drive like it used to at all. I DID have a performance tune in my car and was told that it could be causing a problem with the car relearning the shifting. I took the tune out that day and havent put it back. The car shifts very hard at times and normal at others. If you drop a gear to pass someone, it will make a loud BAM when it downshifts. Im not happy with the rebuild at all. The car that I used to love to drive is now annoying to drive. Also, I was told that theres no warranty on the parts because the car is modified. Its a 2011 Taurus SHO. Not exactly a drag strip rocket.I wont go back, nor will I recommend this place to others.

I didnt realize each loc is independently owned/op. Winston-Salem had been recommended. At Gboro, service on my trans solved my problem but the price made a magical change & not in my favor. I KNOW what my IN PERSON quote was. $ if it was A, and $ if it was B. It was A, but my price was just shy of B, and they SWORE thats what they told me. Wrong. If you get work done here, Get Your Quote in Writing!

Do Not take your car to Cottmans!! They are a rip off!! They said it was $500.00 to diagnose it.I had to reply to an email that said I knew that they were going to charge me before anything else. Later, I found out-No one else charges for an estimate! After they did that they said it would be $2800.00 to rebuild it with only a 2 year warranty!!! They had had my car for a full four days before they even gave me this ridiculous estimate. I had it towed to United who did it for $1800 with a 3 year warranty. I still had to pay Cottman’s for nothing!

Went to get my trans checked. They told me nothing was wrong with my trans BUT, they found an engine problem but it wasnt picking up any codes -_- ... Also could not tell me WHAT was wrong with my engine at all or how they figured I had an engine problem. The guy at the desk kept answering with he doesnt know as if he didnt really want me asking him any questions. The guy basically said it has to become a problem, to TRY to resolve the problem -_- ...Which is what I am basically trying to avoid. My experience was not good. The only thing I found out is that I somehow have a mysterious engine problem that cant be fixed until it spirals out of control and I am somewhere stranded.UPDATE: Took my car to get numerous second opinions. No one else found any engine problems. I was told to just use better gas than 87 and gas with no ethanol to solve the problem that I was concerned about.

Went to Cottman thinking that I needed a transmission rebuild because of the high milage of my van but the guys did a thorough examination and found the problem to be as simple as a disconnected wire to to the engine computer. A less honorable shop would have done the rebuild and taken my money. You can bet that when I really need any transmission work done, I will certainly be taking it to Cottman. Avoid this place at all costs. I took my 2004 Pontiac in for a clutch replacement, and immediately after their work was complete, I noticed shudders and shakes in the engine and loud metal-on-metal clunking noises upon startup. I took the car back not once, but TWICE to have it inspected, telling them they must have improperly re-mounted the transmission and motor. Both times I was told by the shop manager that nothing could be found wrong with my car. I took the car to another mechanic, where the technician found that no less than eight (8) bolts were MISSING in the housing, and five more including a motor-mount bolt were cross-threaded and stripped. DO NOT TAKE your car here. Get it fixed somewhere else the first time, or youll do it the second time like me.

Rob is the single most articulate mechanic Ive ever met. He tells you every detail and everything you want to know. My Lincoln just stopped in the middle of the road but after taking it to Cottmans, it drives better than new. Transmissions are tricky and expensive but this team at Cottmans is the best. The price is cheaper than you would expect for what they have to do. Dont bother to go anywhere else. I was heartbroken dealing with a new transmission in a Saab decades ago, but this experience was purely delightful. For the first time I learned that now they can fix transmissions instead of replacing them so its cheaper. They even help you pay for the repairs. Also understand that letting them fix it will work better than replacing it. My fixed transmission makes my 2008 Lincoln MKX with 130,000 miles seem brand new! Amazing!

Very dishonest! Mr. Rob sold me an alternator for $360 ($562 including labor). Market price $160-$180 based on where you shop. I recommend doing some research on their price for parts before they milk you.

Fwd:Feedback for Cottman: I was referred to Cottman by Firestone for work on my transmission. They informed me that I was not covered under my warranty due to the mileage on my vehicle which was over 90,000. They misread the mileage giving the trip odometer mileage which was 900. My warranty people asked me to have Cottman contact me with the actual mileage which they never did now my warranty is no good because a Cottman Transmission tech could not properly read an odometer and they refused to correct their mistake. Also, I did not like their lack of communication, I had to contact them several times to find out the status of my vehicle.

I was Charged 400.00 plus to put another pan and gasket on the transmission. Then one week later had to take it to United Transmissions to have the transmission rebuilt. They took two days to get the pan and gasket. And after the transmission wasnt changing right. I will not ever take another vehicle to Cottman. I might as well have thrown that money in the trash.

When you find a good honest mechanic, you stick with them. Thats what I found at Cottman Transmisson and Auto Care. I was referred to them by my mechanic to check out some issues with transmission codes from my check-engine diagnostic. I worked with Jodi. Very friendly and professional. I felt no pressure. I highly recommend Cottmans.

Poor cutomer service. Very Rude and didnt return my call

I took my truck to a transmission place on highpoint road because it was shifting rough. That place told me I needed a new transmission $1900.00. I took my truck to cottman transmission on spring garden and the diagnosed it as the transmission ecu. Replaced it for $600.00 and saved me $1300.00 and only took a day or so to fix. I would definitely recommend them.

Total rip-off. Charge for OEM parts and replaced with cheap aftermarkets parts. Car needed a transmission cooler and driveshaft. Cheap aftermarket cooler was used and mounted to the back of my radiator which caused damage. The original transmission lines was cut which cost 100 a piece and replaced with cheap rubber hoses. Randomly, I thought my transmission was going out, slipping gears, etc. I took it up to Cottmans on Spring Garden. Im always a little leery of car garages, so I checked online. Decided to go with Cottmans because of the reviews. The reviews are true. The guys are very knowledgeable, communication was great, and even waived my $85 diagnostic fee since it wasnt the transmission. How great is that? I even tried to tip the manager $40, and he refused, telling me to go to church lol. They could have charged me a arm and leg, but I got complete up front honesty, and for that, I will always refer them for transmission work. A+++
