My son and I always enjoy a visit to Southpaw Guitars. They have a large selection of both acoustic and electric. Staff is always super helpful and nice. Guitar prices are fair. Definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves to browse lefty guitars or anyone looking for something vintage. Great place!

Super cool shop. Stumbled into this place driving around Houston. The shop specializes in lefty guitars but I decided to check it out and got a great deal on a right handed 6 string bass. Owner and his son were incredibly friendly. I settled in and began trying new guitars. They would check in on me periodically, make sure I was ok and answer questions. I felt like they cared but never hovered or pushed for a sale. Picked up a Martin D-35 that sounds amazing and look forward to playing it for many years to come.

Great customer service. I was looking for a particular model and I had the chance to choose the actual guitar out of the 3 they had in stock, which is a huge advantage over most big box retailers. My guitar arrived setup perfectly and ready to play out of the box. They even threw in some extra goodies!

My son is a very good lefty player, but like most lefties, is generally left disappointed when visiting music shops who have their obligatory 1 or 2 lefties on the wall. Not here...as its name implies, the whole shop is devoted to lefties...electric, acoustic, bass, you name it. I took him there as a graduation present...they let us hang out for hours and play dozens of guitars until he finally picked the one he wanted. Great shop, friendly staff and wonderful service. If you are a lefty player, you have to come here.

Sight unseen, Jim gave me enough information to make the right selection. The right Guitar for me, not the highest price, the perfect one for my needs. They did exactly what they said they were going to do, my new Strat arrived ready to play right out of the box. As a lefty, its hard to just grab a guitar and try it... its a right handed world. On a scale of 1 to 10, they are 11! Ive been buying guitars from Jim for 10+ years. They are very simple and nice people. Down to earth and very reasonable. One time, they forgot to include a tremolo arm, but they sent one right away. I really like their personality and would do business again for sure.The first time I bought from them, I was still living in another country, but they made all kinds of arrangements to make my purchase smooth (shipping to a hotel, timing the shipment, etc.)

Southpaw guitars is the best place to do business hands down Jim the owner is trustworthy and the nicest guy around. I asked jim to change some tuners no problem. The shipper unfortunately lost my guitar. I was trying to locate it. I was calling the shipper then i thought i better call jim at southpaw. Jim said he will do what he could on his side and assured me things will be ok. He said i will stay with you until we straighten this out. Well my guitar finally showed up. If your a lefty shop at southpaw guitars ask for Jim you cant go wrong.

Southpaw guitars is a wonderful dealer to work with. They have the best selection of name brand (e.g. Fender, Gibson, Martin, Taylor, etc.) left handed guitars in the United States. The owner always is responsive to phone calls and emails. They also do a great job setting up the guitars whereas some other shops just ship them out with no setups. It really makes a big difference having the shop setup the guitar before shipping. Do yourself a favor and check out this dealer.

If you play left handed, Southpaw Guitars is a amazing resource. I was looking for an archtop guitar. I spoke with Jim on the phone, and he was very helpful, knew exactly what I was looking for, and offered me a few options of strings and case. Also, the price was well below what I had see elsewhere, and fedex shipping was a reasonable $50. When I called afterwards with a few questions, he was very helpful and wanted me to be a satisfied customer. Highly recommended.

The opportunity to by a lefty and get to pick a top was amazing. If you play left this would be my first choice. I bought my first lefty in the mid 70s from a local music store, it took a year to ship from Japan. My first Les Paul I bought was in San Francisco in 1979 on the shelf. All family shops like this one. Sweetwater said oh your a lefty maybe February. Jim had 4 in stock !

I bought my first brick and mortar guitar last weekend and drove from Austin to Houston to do it! Jim and Omar are amazing souls and so easy to talk to and learn from.I first met them about 5 years ago when I was in town and heard of a left hand guitar shop. Should have bought an upgrade then, but didnt.Flash forward five years...Now Ive been playing for about 6 years and would still call myself a beginning intermediate. I needed to step up from my entry level Fender Acoustic Electric but didnt like going to other stores due to limited left hand selections.Ordering online to try out and then send back just did not interest me, either. This is the best guitar experience for a lefty. I took my son there, drive 3 hours to get there, and he played lots of guitars. Jimmy the owner was great, gave us a tour and then just let us try everything. We bought a Taylor T3B and it is awesome. You will not find another store for a lefty to try most any kind of guitar and buy it on the spot. The whole staff was great.

A Left-Handed Guitarist’s Paradise.With a nice selection of electric and acoustic guitars, it gives those that play with the unorthodox orientation a way to try before you buy!Mr. Omar and Mr. Jim are the nicest and the environment is welcoming. Patrons are encouraged to pick an instrument and try it out amongst the various amps and sitting stools placed about.In my case, I went one day with hopes of getting a Fender and played near an hour with the Jazzmasters, Telecasters, and Stratocasters. Ultimately, I wanted a Tele but they didn’t have the American Professional in Butterscotch Blonde. Mr. Omar said they could place an order for it and so I did. I got a nice deal for the wait and a T-shirt! Sadly, COVID-19 took its course and it seemed to slow production on Fender’s side. One day Mr. Jim called saying that they had a pleasant surprise: It seems that my guitar I had ordered was postponed indefinitely but they were going to upgrade me to the Original 50’s Telecaster. I was stunned, especially when I got there and saw it in its case. I went home happy as can be but when I played it, it felt like an old friend. Action was great and the Thick U shape neck didn’t feel cumbersome at all!I couldn’t recommend this place enough and I’m looking forward to my next time coming back!

This an updated review after finally getting a chance to go by again I can say the inventory here is nothing short of awesome. Except for the odd guitar here and there everything is left handed, I explained how I was wanting to learn to play and was shown a few guitars that were affordable. It was nice to get a feel for the different guitars and also learn more for when I finally buy another

Well 40 years in business selling left handed guitars says a lot right there. They must be doing something right. I live in SoCal and my recent purchase of a leftie MIJ HS Tele was exceptional. Fair price. Reasonable shipping fee. The guitar was as advertised and came well packaged. Good set up. The customer service was as good as it gets. I’ve called a few times about other guitars and Jim always seems to answer on the first couple rings. He shipped the guitar fast and called me with the FedEx tracking number. I got it in three days.

Was amazed by their kind service! instantly replaced my almost 2 years old epiphone on the spot when I took it to mend. the problem was not even big, getting a buzz sound due to string touching other frets. Staff is very friendly as well. Must say, very impressed!

The HUGE downside to this place is the pricing. Before you buy anything from there, make sure you Google it first. (Like this $270 Dean V on sale there for $500.)

Went to Houston last month and finally had a chance to go to Southpaw Guitars. It was an absolutely satisfying and fulfilling experience. Jimmy met me at the door and gave me a personal tour of his whole shop. His son, Omar, was just as welcoming. As a lefty, you might get to see two or three lefty guitars in a normal store. At Southpaw, there were a thousand! This is important in that for once in my life I was able to try out and compare not only an amazing amount of unique and boutique lefty guitars, but also able to try a 56 Strat, a 61 Strat and a 69 Strat -- getting a chance to finally see, feel, and get a real-time idea about the difference between the various year models. The experience also gave me a much better idea about the quality of my own guitars back home, and how to fill in the holes in my collection. I tried a number of Telecaster style guitars and kept coming back to a Nash T-52 which I ordered on line a week later. The hands on experience was priceless! Over the years, Ive bought various guitars from Southpaw, and while their on-line service is superb and Ive been happy with each instrument, a visit to the store is a must for any lefty player who can make it to Houston. Bravo fellas for catering to us often neglected other hand players!
