I came here as a kid and now bring my kid here! It’s and old building with some old exhibits but there is a lot of really cool information and artifacts. Probably best for older kiddos but they do have a good range of activity based exhibits for smaller children. We went an hour before closing so by the time we got to the sand spot at the end, we only had a short time to play. It was my 14 month olds favorite part so consider starting there if you are short on time.
Lots of different fossil dinosaurs and other prehistoric critters. Play areas for kids to dig in the sand with sinks to wash hands. Restaurant and gift shop open. IMAX Movie theater with 3 different 3D shows that you have to pay extra for, but worth the price for the Antarctica Dinosaur. Dont bother with the gnome hunt for kids, since they are super difficult to find we only found one of the 13.
Our 4 year old was AMAZED by all the different exhibits and interactive features. From digging for dinosaurs in sand and water to the almost life like fossils seemingly swimming toward you or leaning in to say hello. There is no “boring” part which means it’s great for them and for you. They have games older and younger children can play on various computers spread through out and interactive play like a large magnetic fossil puzzle allowing you and your paleontologist toddler to create your own. If we lived in Utah we would make this a staple. They didn’t cut corners and it’s apparent every step of the way. I can imagine it’s also a perfect play date place for moms.
Took my 4 and 2 year old there. It was really great and they loved the interactive things the best. It was a little confusing to navigate a little. My girls really loved the star tunnel.
No words I can write will compare with the stories told in this museum. I guess its not that I think couldnt tell as great a tale as the history of our physical world through fossils and artifacts, but the Museum of Ancient History obviously has a team of curators, researchers, writers, architects, and others who contributed. What hope do I have of writing something superior to all those people involved in the museum professionally?Frankly, none. But I am armed with something that gives superhuman strength to all people today: the ability to critique on the internet as though I were an authority. Therefore hear me now:This museum is right on. Take your kids, take your wives, take your open mind, and in return you will be given knowledge, wisdom, and insight which can propel your mind into new worlds. You will escape the monotony of your routines and instead see the world through a new lens. What lens is that? I dont know, and frankly Im surprised you are still reading this. I cant even remember what I was talking about in the first place.5/5 will return. If you see me there, just let me wander in peace because I have social anxiety.
A great place to visit if you love learning about ancient life (dinosaurs).
Not as big as i thought it would be, but lots of cool stuff to see. good for 1-3 hrs
It’s so fun and family friendly! All the employees are so happy to help with anything
Awesome place. Interactive and very high quality! Theres lots of information and fun for all ages. It is quite pricey though, but fun to try.
Second time visiting this place and for the second time it amused me. This museum is so Nice! Kids love it and we love it!We went in a Saturday after lunch and it wasn’t packed at all, very chill. I highly recommend this place.
Fun place really educational, freindly staff. Fun for kids.
Pretty cool place to take your kiddos. You can learn a lot from here. Plus a little area for kids to play with dinosaur toys and computer games.
I really liked the layout of the museum. Instead of focusing purely on the land or sea first and going through the stages of evolution of one by itself and then the other like many museums Ive visited; you instead journey through time and see the similarities and influences that occurred throughout the ages.
My toddler grandchildren loved it so much when they went a few weeks ago, that they asked me to go again with them when I came to visit. So much to see. Older fans have plenty to read and learn, younger crowds can play in the sand in a couple of places. Would definitely recommend to all ages.
So cool! Exciting for all ages. Very clean.
My kids enjoyed this place very much. Not only does it have the dino fossils but it have a few hands on sections that you can dig in the sand to uncover fossil and also play with the dino toys. I like how it was all easy to follow so you dont miss a section if you didnt grab a map. We spent about 1.5 hrs there and I would probably go again next time we are in ut
This will be my second year its a member of Thanksgiving point. This is one of my favorite venues in the state, with a veritable cornucopia of sights, sounds, activities and experiences that brings back find childhood memories of the Pittsburgh Science Center and the Smithsonians.
Outstanding museum. So much great information. The kids loved it and had a great time, especially in the couple of play areas that are designed to teach while playing. Three only reason I didnt give it five stars is that it is pretty expensive. Its $20 per adult and $17 per kid 3 and older. I have five kids, so it cost $125. Thats not too far off from the cost of an annual pass, but I dont think wed go back again.
I love coming here! My family loves hunting for the gnomes every time we visit! One thing that I love about this museum is their wheelchair and stroller rental. There have been many times where myself or another person in my group have had injuries that made walking more difficult. Wheelchair rental is only $10 and the whole place is wheelchair accessible. Theyre super friendly to those with disabilities. I 100% recommend this museum to anyone who wants to go.Also, I highly appreciate that even the statues are following COVID restrictions.
Our 3 year old loves all the museums here. It’s worth it to get the year pass, my wife takes our son 1-3 times a week. I go too after work sometimes 1-3 times a month. It’s fun to bring a flash light and look for the hidden gnomes.
A great museum with an incredible collection to look through. From earliest life to the ice age, this collection will give you a guided tour through Earths biological, and geological, history.
I love this place since I was a kid, great place to bring the kids
We were able to come to this museum on the $2 day in August and it was great. I do think the price they ask originally is a little high. If the COVID 19 wasnt an issue there would have been more for kids to do. But it was still a lot of fun and the dinosaurs and prehistoric animals they had on display were really well done
Loved the hands on sections! My kids loved all the game centers they have added! And of course the water sand portion was a hit. Love all the details that are coming into this. I went here when it first opened as a child so I appreciate the upgrades that have taken place to keep the exhibits relevant.
Some really cool exhibits. We enjoyed our time.
Lots of cool dinosaurs
Excellent place for the entire family.
This is a good place to visit with family. Will take couple of hours to look through the museum.
Loved it! The place is surprisingly big. They have a great layout of the dinosaurs and there are areas where you can walk right under a dinosaur skeleton. You can easily spend an hour there and not see everything.
Very informative for those who want to stop and read. For the toddlers there were a lot of displays.
Holy Dinosaurs, Batman! This place has been a favorite destination as far back as I can remember. If you like museums, saurians, or even just hunting for hidden gnomes, this is the place for you! (Hint: Rivers tearing through the earth or gently meandering, its in your hand. I oversee it all from the bushes)
Super cool museum! I love that they have fun activities throughout for the kids, like the water table. The giant turtle fossil is so neat. The museum walks you through the beginning of the earth to now.
So much educational family fun.
An AMAZING dinosaur museum that is super well put together for kids, very kid friendly! We especially love the water and sand table and the sand pit in the exit of the museum
Always have fun playing and learning here.
We love museums, and this one has amazing displays and hands-on fun (more when COVID isnt ruining everything)! My only criticism is the layout... About halfway through the museum the path splits. Either way you go, youll have to back-track to see everything. This makes herding cats (aka keeping track of my 4 children) a lot harder. It also bugs the heck out of the logic center of my brain.
We enjoyed our visit. The boys ages 5 and 3 loved seeing all the dinosaurs, fossils and displays. Plenty of little stations for the kids to touch and feel and explore. The gift shop has lots of interesting things.
My kids always have a great time. They always learn something new after their visit.
I loved the amount of Dino skeletons they had. Enough to keep my kids aged 2-10 entertained for 45 minutes.
Clean, fun and education place to take the family or go by yourself and learn. I always enjoy going here. But thats up on the gift shop Toys are very cheaply made and overpriced same goes with all their other items probably the worst gift shop Ive ever been in. Other then that its a good place to go
Great Dino Museum. Kids liked it. I like how it ends on a nice activity for the kids. They can do some excavating of their own.
Had a good time. Lots of exhibits!
It was an endless curving about through the museum. But, not endless in a negative way.Every. single. room. you pass to and from is so impressively made and so strikingly different. It took a Lot of willpower to not take a picture of every single room and every single little creature, weird, small details.I Bequeath it The Museum Youll Never feel bored in, not even the irritated, pouty kids.In fact there are so many interactive learning, and silly games to start learning.Because all the aforementioned,This Museum has earned the title of Lowest percentage of crying, yelling and screaming kids, self-absorbed teens, and rude Neanderthalians! -and for that, it has my fondest regards. 💖🦴🦖🦴
Great museum! Especially great for children, though I think the tickets are a bit pricey. I went with my wife, and we had a good time, but they had some exhibits/activities that were specifically geared toward children, which seemed to be well received by the children we saw there.
We love this museum. The exhibits are great, and my 4 year old is so excited to see all the fossils of the dinos he has learned about.
Good museum. Awkwardly arranged exhibits. Didn’t flow very well. Many fun things for the kids to do.
This museum has a lot of cool fossils and facts. I went here for a cousins birthday. They had lots of fun! This also can make a great place to go for family night.
It has a focus on smaller children as there are many teeth, sand, games and toys. If your kid (or yourself) has a different taste, consider the NHMU in Salt Lake City or the BYU Museum of Palaeontology in Provo.
Our favorite dinosaur museum! We have taken all of our nephews when they visit and they love it too. Lots to see and really nicely done. A highlight for us is the water/sand table and making rivers and islands and letting the kids play with the toy dinosaurs in there. The dino dig is also fun as well as the dark tunnel with the stars.
Excellent exhibits. Very informational, too. Our 2 year old son loved the sand area where you can dig for fossils. Not sure why they have Jesus books in the gift shop though.. 🤔
Great place, especially for kids or those willing to be kids.
It is one of the best collections of dinosaur fossils in the state! For added challenge they have cleverly hidden gnomes throughout as well. (Its HARD) Great for the whole family.
Very fun place to take the family. Clean and well maintained. Very clean bathrooms. My kids were fully engaged the whole time we were there. The first room they are adding on was all about earthquakes and I cant wait till it is finished. I ran out of fuel before they did. There is a place to eat after, and the gift shop had fun toys. The staff was friendly and engaging. Parking was difficult, but maybe that was just because it was a Saturday. I would definitely recommend you check it out!
My 15 month old had the best day of his tiny life thus far here. Unbridled joy. RAWR!
GORGEOUS facility and experience! Loved watching the paleontologists work!Their sandwiches are also A+. That hot ciabatta bread turkey sandwich- wow.
We love this museum! We have been going for many years!
This place is awesome! Seriously if you like dinosaurs or at least remember not being bored watching Jurassic Park I strongly suggest you come here.
This is such a fun place to visit with kids. There is places to dig for fossils and play in water and sand. There is tons of fossils to see. So much fun. I recommend getting the explorer pass so you can see this museum and other museums at Thanksgiving Point in the same day. Really worth the money.
Fun setup, and a lot to see. Went with a group, and most of us hadnt been there before.
Fun museum. Took about 1.5 hours for me and my two young boys to explore it. We loved the hands on exhibits and interactive displays. Very easy to access and find parking.
Great place to take kids. Technology area and lots of history with enriching hands on activities for kids. Employees are helpful and really want to share knowledge with young patrons. You can spend 1-2 hours just walking through and seeing all of the exhibit.
I still enjoyed this museum ... although my teens didnt love it as much as they used to. This is a fun indoor activity that the whole family can do together. It is also part of the Salt Lake Connect Pass, which grants you free admission.
We absolutely love going to the dinosaur museum! The kids never Tire of it. So many fun things to go and see and do. The discovery room is always tons of fun, and ever-changing. We love going and seeing the different Hands-On experiences that they have in there. Walking through the museum is always fun, as you go through you start with the creation of the world and the first forms of life on Earth. Its really fascinating to walk through the star tunnel and see the very first life forms. As you progress through the museum and get to the age of the dinosaurs and see their vast skeletons towering above you oh, it is truly a unique experience. My kids also love the water and sand table, and the fossil pit at the end. Tons of fun! worth the money & every minute.
Great place!! Took my grandson there and he loved everything. Cant wait to go back
Fun experience for the kids. Nice and clean as well.
I went with my whole family and it was a pretty cool experience! The Covid-19 guidelines were followed well and it wasnt crowded at all! My only complaint is that it is pretty small. I recommend taking your time reading each sign and learning about all the different types of dinosaurs. One of the rooms has huge dinosaurs that are really worth seeing. The museum also teaches a lot about other wildlife and plants.
Really great for kids. Get a season pass to Thanksgiving Point. It’s worth every penny.
A dinosaur lover’s dream! Great museum with a lot to see! They have activities for children.
There’s nothing like seeing the bones of large dinosaurs to make a stoic adult turn into a big ol child full of wonder. The collection here is incredibly vast and each individual exhibit is so well put together. There are definitely a few kid targeted areas but overall, I found the price was well worth it for me as an adult with no kids! I think my husband and I spent at least two hours in here ooohing and ahhing at everything. There’s also a pitch black room with teeny tiny lights to simulate the vastness of space which I enjoyed. A great museum for sure!
My wife and I went here for her birthday we loved it! Its significantly smaller that the Us natural history museum but this one is staged way better in my opinion. A lot of attention to little details in the foreground and background of sets. They have special cases like the ones I posted which make it really easy to see the dinosaur you are looking at.We walked the thing in about an hour and we took our sweet slow time reading almost everything. They have a dig pit for the kiddos when you make it to the end.
Amazing value for the admission, made even better with the connect pass. The connect pass is good for a year, and a great value. This Museum is great for the displays and the fact that there is so much that us hands on and interactive. All of us (adults, children and even the toddler) love it and intend to come back to this museum and to Thanksgiving point every chance we get.Make sure to check out the design a done corner...
Very impressive collection of fossils and dinosaurs skeletons. Fun for kids and adults.
Bigger than we thought. We spent a few hours and felt like we rushed through. Lots of cute play areas for the kiddos. Nice indoor area to hang out as we drove in from out of state and needed to let the kids run around. We had lunch at Thanksgiving Point & visited the well stocked gift shop.
Great place to visit. Its nice to get a glimpse into the past and see things you only ever see on the big screen. One note: bigger fossils arent real. Not a deal breaker for me but might be for some people.
The only reason the Museum gets 4 stars instead of 5 is the poor condition of the water play area.I have been taking my kids here for 20 years, and never disappointed. As kids, they would rush through to get to the waterplay area and spend hours in there building islands with palm trees and all sorts of dinosaurs. There was always plenty of sand to go around, no matter how crowded it got.I havent been there in years, and last week took my Granddaughter, and many of my young adult kids. We were all heartbroken to see how rundown the area has become. Now there are no palm trees, not very much sand, and the floods that would come through every 15-20 minutes no longer come. In fact, the water barely flows.Very disappointing!I HIGHLY suggest you fix up the water play area and restore it to its glory to teach kids about WHY so many dinosaur bones end up dumped in one area, and how geological features are created. With the amount of $ you bring in on one ticket, and the little that has changed in 20 years, I think it is high time to reinvest in making this Dinosaur Museum top notch...which mostly it is, except that waterworks area.On a side note.... best kept secret in town.... the homemade chocolate chip cookies sold in the Cafe are AMAZING!!!!!The cookies get 5 stars, as does the rest of the museum, and the IMAX theatre.
OVERVIEW - 4.0Came here as a spur of the moment thought. Wed seen the displays a few weeks ago, when we saw a movie at the Mammoth Screen from the Megaplex Movie Theater next store.LOCATION - 3Easily seen from the freeway, but can be a little complicated to get to without the insight of a local or Google Maps.PRICE - 2I honestly did not care for the price, and in fact I think this was the only negative part of our visit. Each adult is $15 and per child is $8. So with tax in the end we paid $42 for three. They have all kinds of special prices for this and that, season passes and whatnot, all way overpriced. I was told Tuesdays in August it is only $2 per person. Well come back then.PRODUCT/SERVICE - 5The fossils and displays were set up amazingly. My daughter was thoroughly entertained, which is saying quite a bit, as she has such a short attention span. I would have liked to spend more time reading about each of the artifacts, but I guess in August I will take more time.POINTERS/PERKS - 5Come in August on a Tuesday when it is $2 per person, unless you want to make some financial sacrifices. They have several interactive activities for children, which is great!EMPLOYEES - 5The employees were so friendly and patient with our several questions at the front desk.
We had a great time. So much to see
Great expierence! Most of the dinosaur skeletons were put into a mold and remade for each bone to prevent damage to the actual bones. Great walk thru of exhibits, could take 1-5 hrs. The museum contradicts itself saying that the first humans came millions of years after dinosaurs were extinct, but also shows a human footprint in a dinosaurs footprint and states that they we lived amongst them.
We had a lot of fun here. There was something for all the kids, and even us adults had fun.
Good displays and science. A bit predictable to experienced museum flowers. Good mix of diskette vs. Hands on and kids entertainment
This is a large and quiet museum, great for indoor entertainment and learning. There an area at the beginning with changing activities and displays, but most of the museum remains the same throughout the year(s). The are a handful of activity stops that are awesome for kids under 10, including a water/ sand area and a sand excavation area... these spots can be crowded, but the kids dont seem to mind. Times closer to opening and closing tend to be the slowest.
Absolutely fantastic museum with many different mounted skeletons. Well maintained with many hands on displays covering from the start of life to the modern day. Absolutely worth a visit. Expect an hour to two to make it through. Also has actual fossil preparation on site with a good display on how fossils are found and prepared.
Best dino museum i have been to. The stuff in vernal is original, but it has nothing in the interactive joy that is the museum of ancient history. Star room is great, sand and water room is great, watching the fish eat other fish is great. Highly recommend.
As a fan of dinosaurs I give this place a 5/5. It made my inner child happy.
Really cool place for the entire family. The kids will love digging for bones in the sand and playing with the sand in one of the water features. The dinosaur exhibits are interactive and you can touch most of them.
Best Chubbys I have ever been too
Children and adults alike are fascinated with the dinosaur fossils, the interactive exhibits, and the interesting facts. The water and sand table is a hit, and digging at the end is delightful. Instead of shovels, which children were always using to throw sand, they have little tools with holes in the middle. There are plenty to go around, too. The supersaurus is unbelievable. I love coming here.
Its a fun and educational way to spend the day. I just wish people would watch their kids a little more closely.
Fun place to visit. Not the best for young children considering the other options at Thanksgiving Point but we had fun. Loved seeing the paleontologist on display playing on her phone as opposed to doing anything with fossils.
Spent 4 hours. It was amazing. Be sure to watch one of the 3-D movies.
Great museum! great interaction within the exhibits, and full of learning opportunities. We have been several time, and still spent an hour here. First time visiting, could easily spend 2-3 hours. Very cool museum
