Ive had to bring both of our vehicles to J1 Auto several times over the last year and a half. While normally it feels frustrating having to bring your car into a mechanic because of uncertainties about whats wrong with your vehicle, I can genuinely say that isnt the case here. As someone who in my younger years routinely did mechanical repairs on my vehicles (brakes, spark plugs, oil changes, etc..), Im relatively knowledgeable on both what to look for and if something sounds fishy. J1 Auto has always been honest, transparent, and never tried to sell me add-on work to squeeze me for a few extra dollars. I know that Jon and his crew are not only going to do the repairs necessary, but that they stand by their work and that when I get it back I dont have to worry about its road-worthiness. Ive worked with other mechanics in the area, and have had average experiences in the past with most of them, but J1 Auto stands out head and shoulders above the rest. Cant recommend them enough.

If you google the average price of specific repairs on the car you have youll easily see that they are always within that range and theyre always honest about how long itll take them to do a repair. Theyre often busy so you might need to give them a bit of time to finish your repair but the wait is well worth it.

I was looking to buy a used car and wanted to make sure it wasnt a lemon. I called places at 1:30 a.m. because I was seeing the car I wanted to purchase in about 12 hours. I didnt receive any call backs from other mechanics in the area, which is what I expected. But I had a text in the morning asking what time I needed to come in for the inspection. I said 1:30, but he asked if I could come earlier. I wast able to, but he said he could see me at 1:30 still. Well, I was extremely late, to say the least. The owner (I think) was very patient and waited for us to bring the car in for the inspection. I felt so bad, but he acted as if nothing was wrong. The inspection went well and we could tell he looked at everything. The shop was clean, and the price was very fair as well. Overall, if I didnt live 30 min. away, this would be my mechanic. When I pick my car up after agreed upon work, I will be returning for another inspection.

John is most honest and fairest mechanic I have known. We started taking our cars to him due to a breakdown close to J-1 and since then we drive past many auto repair shops for all repairs and maintenance.

Im a guy that isnt afraid to turn a wrench: from replacing my own oil all the way through replacing fuel pumps and entire engines. But golly gee do I just not want to do the work sometimes. This is where J1 Automotive and Jon are truly gems. I couldnt believe how hard it was to find a shop that didnt spell doom for my car for a simple brake job, but Jon and his team were courteous, honest, knowledgeable, friendly, and a breath of fresh air to do business with. This is the guy you want to be taking your vehicles to. He is a straight up honest man that will not make you pay anything more than a fair price. Hell not get you on extra charges. Ive rolled up unannounced just to ask a question and schedule an oil change - he went out of his way to actually look at my issue, give me advice, and make an on the fly tweak to keep me rolling through the weekend. A real top notch dude.

My husband cannot sing the praises of Jon and his staff more! He drove his car to J1 Auto when a sound that his 2001 Yukon was making grew increasingly louder…mind you, it was later in the afternoon and he didn’t have an appointment. Even though Jon was noticeably busy (the phone was ringing off the hook), he took a listen to our car and then threw it on the lift to confirm his suspicion. The bearings were shot and the pulley was busted; Jon looked at my husband and was completely baffled as to how this car was even driving! Jon was booked for the day and suggested my husband leave the car overnight and that it would be ready for pick up in the morning – he even offered to arrange a ride home. But when my husband explained that we live downtown and he works in Lombard, Jon said not to worry and that he’ll squeeze it in – he warned my husband that it would be a wait but the car would get done today. 45 minutes later, the car was ready to go…yes, you read correctly, 45 minutes! My husband was pleased beyond words – even though he was ready and willing to wait for hours, instead was driving home in less than an hour! Jon was more than reasonably priced and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We live in the city but will gladly use J1 Auto for all of our future automotive needs. We highly recommend Jon and his staff at A1 Auto…thanks guys!

Quick and easy

I was visiting from CO and my altinator went out. They were able to get my car in before I left to come back to CO. They were friendly and honest. Didnt try to overcharge me or suggest any extra work to be done. They checked everything out on my car to make sure I was able to travel safely back to CO.

I own a VW CC and I was having an issue with my struts. I asked around and I got the owners name and number from my friend. Never had luck with cars so I’m always apprehensive about auto shops. Long story short I will forever go here from now on. The owner is a great guy and I have never felt more relaxed with him working on my car. I have been going to J1 Auto for years. Jon is always so helpful and takes great car of my car. For example, I have a new SUV and someone hit the passenger side rear door with probably their car door and left a scratch. I went to see Jon after work and he was able to get the scratch out.

Having to get stuff fixed on your car is never fun, so having a guy like Jon that I can trust to find and service an issue with excellent care at a reasonable price is amazing. This last time I had an issue with my car at higher speeds where I could feel a vibration in the front tires. I called Jon Friday morning. Dropped my car off Friday afternoon. Got a call with what the problem/fix was and what the cost estimation would be by 3. And then on Saturday morning it was fixed. I only wish I lived a little closer, but will definitely make the journey anytime I need something done. Thanks J1 Auto!

I took my 2015 Camry here (recently bought as a used car) as a new customer to check out an intermittent brake warning light on the dash board. As no cost they inspected the brakes, pads, fluid, and test drove the car. The brakes were fine with plenty of life left on the pads. They looked up and found a Toyota Service Bulletin that could address the problem. Its an honest shop that does all that diagnosis work for free and does not sell an unnecessary brake job.

Lived in town a while but had yet to establish with a mechanic, getting work done as needed when it came up. Needed scheduled maintenance and called around, J1 offered the best price by far. My car is older and in bad shape, and when calling to let me know my car was ready to be picked up, John let me know all the issues that were wrong in addition to what Id had done. What was exceptional is that he told me what was the highest priority and what was the most expensive and could wait. Have yet to return for further work, but I have a very good feeling about this shop - honest and reasonably-priced.

Im an Uber/Lyft Driver and I was picking up a requested Uber ride from his shop for a customer who was getting his car repaired at J1 Auto. The customer highly recommended this place. I was looking for a honest mechanic because my car will need more than the usual service repairs becuz I do rideshare. So I decided to take my car to have it repaired at this shop. I love this place. Jon is honest, he goes far and beyond to provide excellent service. My car is a 2015 Kia Soul and it would intermittently cut off. Jon work hard and did research to find why I have to jump start my car on avg 4 to 5 times a day. It was not my battery, or starter, or altenator....It was a problem Kia would not take responsibility for. Jon also had another customer who drives a Kia Soul who was having the same problem. Jon research and found out what the problem was and repaired my car. Jon honestly said I dont want you to pay for an alternator or a starter if thats not the reason the car keeps going dead after I turn the car off and need a jump start to drive again. I explained to him I look online and there were many complaints regarding this problem with Kia Soul.. Im so appreciative of his honesty. And to go beyond the call of duty to reach out to help you is A+. He will not take advantage of you and nor suggest repairs that are not necessary. Im so happy with his service and Im glad I found a mechanic that I will always take my cars to be service at. I highly recommend this place to get your car service at....

If you are looking for an honest, knowledgable, and helpful auto mechanic, J1 Auto is your place! I had taken my car to Midas for new brakes, and when I had left, they told me that my hub was damaged and would require new bearings, along with a quote for $350. I had been referred to J1 Auto, so I scheduled an appointment to fix the issue after I had received a much more reasonable quote. When I arrived, Jon started an inspection after I described the issue, only to find no noise, no damage, and no need to replace my hub or my bearings. Jon did see a bolt in my wheel hub that Midas had not pushed in all of the way when the rotors were replaced; Jon took care of that right away and sent me on my way. J1 Auto was honest, efficient, and saved me $350. I will be using them in the future.

So grateful to Jon E*. Its July 3rd 10:00 a.m. our Denali is leaking radiator fluid. The big travel plans ahead came screeching to a halt. Everyone at my company takes their cars here. I dropped my car off in the morning one day to get an inspection on replacing my engine belts and brakes. Jon quoted me over the phone while i was at work with a great price and completed the job before my work day was over.
