One of the best gelato shops in the Bay Area. I love their chocolate fountain and the option to get a rich European style chocolate with the gelato. All of their flavors are fresh and exceptionally tasty to their title. I was a huge fan of the chocolate orange and pistachio.

5 stars for the quality and taste. But 1 star for the lady who works here.She is always rude. I have been coming to this place for years. Even my friends and family have had similar experiences. We try to be extra polite with her still she is always frustrated and disengaged. On contrary when students work at the shop they are always warm, welcoming and we have always had nice experiences with them.One of the best places for high quality ice cream in the entire bay area.Owner should do something about making the experience better. Most low ratings are the one inclined towards that lady who works here.

The gelato is pretty good, but the size of the amount of gelato they serve you is not consistent. For the same price sometimes I get a good amount of gelato while some other times I get a very small portion.

Excellent gelato, huge variety and a nice sitting area, both inside and outside, so you can take the time to enjoy the goodness.

The ice cream was really good! I also like that a piece of cone is included with a cup, as well as chocolate drizzle from their cool fountains.

A 4:30pm visit is an off-time visit for ice cream, but we were ready to snack on a hot day in PA. The pandemic makes the inside of this shop a bit less friendly with signs telling us to keep out of the back of the store, but we appreciated the rule allowing only 1 customer inside at a time. Disappoingly, a few tubs were missing from the flavor selections, and the Stracciatella really didnt seem to have any chocolate in it except for one bite. The vanilla was excellent and Id come back for that anytime.

New employee has no people skills . Today I went at 2pm and she asked me and 4 more people in line to wait 30 min as ice cream was not ready . After 30 min she said to all of us that our flavor had not started yet . We all wait for nothing . Her attitude was not friendly . I have been coming to this place for years, it is definitely going down in customer service .

Love this place. Their gelato are so good. I love that you can choose multiple flavors per size (the larger, the more flavors to choose). I ordered the small called picolo and got 2 different flavors. You also have option of getting dark or milk chocolate hard topping. My whole family loved our gelato!

Very good gelato! Tried pistachio, hazelnut, cookie and cream, and Nutella. All amazing, but Pistachio was my favorite! Many pieces of pistachio, tasted like pistachio and was not too sweet! Love it! My husband is a lover of cookie n’ cream and he said it was the best one he ever tried! Definitely will come back! Happy to find a great gelato shop! 😋

Best artisan ice cream in Palo Alto! Insanely smooth and perfectly milky. You can tell from taste that they use QUALITY milk. Also, the chocolate they drizzle on top isnt waxy! Love the cozy enviroment- its never crowded.I highly reccomend the Hazelnut Ice Cream and the Pistachio Ice Cream (really). This place is very good with crafting their nut flavours. If youre lucky, youll find chunks of nuts inside. The nutty flavor really comes through!Sampling is allowed so definetly take advantage of that!Only downside is the wooden spoons! :D (Look adorable but tastes quite woody. Leaves itches on tounge.)

Its just the best gelato ever! Amazing flavors that really pop. My favorites: hazelnut, caramel, strawberry, mint chip, cantaloupe... of course they have sprinkles, and a chocolate fountain, milk or dark, to drizzle over the best gelato ice cream waffle cones around. Gelataio is a super treat!

The gelato was to die for. They have Belgian chocolate fountain, in both dark and milk,, which I recommend taking advantage of. 10/10 would come here again!

You will find this place to be outside the main University Ave corridor but it is absolutely worth the short walk.In my opinion, at Gelatio you can find the creamiest, softest and most flavorful ice cream in Palo Alto.The double chocolate is a must have but the other flavors we tried have been fantastic as well.

Very tasty gelato. They also have gelato bars that are dipped in chocolate - highly recommended. I love all of the flavors and they give your gelato a complimentary drizzle with their warm chocolate sauce and a wafer. The place is cozy and pleasant to come and hang out.

Though they are out of pistachio when I get there. But you can tell they are using real milk and cream. Really tasty!

Favorite local spot for gelato ice cream. Delicious, creative flavors made with real fruit and other ingredients. Decadent but tastes like real food, not all sugar. Their chocolate really tastes like chocolate. They also have cute little gelato pops covered in chocolate, great tiny treats.

All I have to say is this - I cant function without a pint of their hazelnut gelato in my freezer at literally all times. The salted caramel is delicious too.

We LOVE Gelataio! I have recommended this place again and again, and everyone loves it. I highly recommend trying it and then making it a regular dessert stop. It is expensive, but I think every bit worth it for the flavor and texture. They even put a complimentary wafer with chocolate drizzle on top.

This place remains my favorite ice cream shop in Palo Alto. They dont compromise on quality, which allows them to shine through both their traditional flavors, like hazelnut and espresso, or their more creative flavors, like pear riesling. And they serve their scoops with a wafer and chocolate drizzle classy enough for a white-tablecloth restaurant!

Love the place! So many different flavors, sizes, forms. Great ingredients = great taste! The parking is convenient, the staff is wonderful, and there IS a chocolate fountain (for glazing your gelato)...

I am appalled by the way we were treated by the store associate (we are regulars btw)! I wish I could speak to the manager /owner of the establishment.So we called ahead for our order and requested two separate flavors per cup (like we used to in past) per person. Even though it was clear that two separate flavors per person is what we want to order, the store associate FAILED to mention that you can only order one flavor PER PERSON. The store May have changed their policy recently but we were not aware of that. When we called about the mistake made on our order the associate was EXTREMELY RUDE And was unwilling to accept her mistake and HUNG UP ON US!Is this the way to treat regular customers!EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED

Simply great! Best ice cream in the area. Loved the Pistachio and Chocolate. Sampled coffee and caramel - great also. The seating area both inside and out is very cozy, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. This is my go-to place, highly recommend it!

Came here on a weekday afternoon and the place was empty. I did not experience any of the service issues other people had. Prices are definitely a bit on the high side compared to an ice cream shop and I don’t understand the pricing differences between to go and eat there. The gelato itself was good. I had the hazelnut which is my favorite flavour and can be hard to find.

This is the very best gelato in Palo Alto. Homemade on-premises always delicious always packed at night. They even have constantly running milk and dark chocolate which they drizzle over your ice cream after youve ordered. My son knows this is the best ice cream and gets so excited when we walk into this place. To be clear it is unambiguously in qualitatively better and any other ice cream Ive ever had in North America.

Gelato taste really good, even better than many you could find in Italy. Sometimes they have specials with interesting combination, in general you will find those on top of the traditional ones. Pistachio and hazelnut definitely my top 2. Having said that, they should invest in servers, there are always different one and no one was able to correctly soften the ice cream against the metal container before putting it in the cup or cone, especially in the latter case it results in a very granular ball which hasnt even got a shape of a bowl. What a pity! I would have dropped this to 3 star just for this but I feel that the quality of the ice cream compensated for that. Just get a cup rathe than a cone and you will be somewhat fine.

Great ice cream and service! Had a pistachio and chocolate one tonight and everything tasted really good. I also enjoyed how nice the persons selling the ice cream were they went the extra mile offered a sample etc.

Amazing place. I go to this place at least once a week. I have been eating ice cream here for a long time now. Best part about this place is they have vegan ice creams which taste delish.*Just one thing that makes me think twice before going everytime is this one lady who works there is very rude and intimidating. Usually she works until 5:30 - 6ish in the evening so we try to go after that ( she is not part time employee because we have been seeing her for long now). Even a few friends of mine observed the same and stopped going there. But they sometime have students working there part time or something so I try to go when I see someone other than that specific lady.The lady is very very rude and always annoying to everyone.Seems like this rude lady has issues with Asians.

Gelataio is a great ice cream store. I am a huge fan of the modern touch they gave it. While their selection isnt the largest in town, the flavors they do have are really great. They also have really impressive chocolate fountains.

The gelato was nice, but a bit bland, at least the flavor I had. The lady at the counter was fantastic, and provided her recommendations in addition to samples.

I totally recommend this place, you have to try it!I tried the double chocolate and the caramel and it was heavenly. The waver covered in either dark or milk chocolate is a great finish on top of the ice cream.

Even after our move to the other side of the Bay, Gelataio is still our favorite dessert place in the entire Bay Area! Every time we swing by, we come out with huge smiles on our faces. Our 7 year old loves their vanilla, my husband always goes for Hazelnut and Pistachio (if you know anything about gelato then you know how hard it is to find the perfect renditions of these flavors!) and I love sampling their newest creations.What I really appreciate about Gelataio, is that it is always super clean. There is never any frozen residue on the containers (a sure sign that the temperature is off in many ice cream shoppes) and the staff is a delight to interact with.

Great gelato place. I came here because I wasnt interested in standing in line in the cold for Salt & Straw. 😂 But it was also because I had tried Gelataio before at their San Carlos location and knew that the Cajeta Caramel flavor was fantastic. I got that same flavor again in a cone. The scoops here are generous so you might be satisfied with the smallest serving option. I also got dark chocolate drizzled on top of the scoop. I was a little disappointed that when the chocolate hardened, it was not super crisp. It would have been nice to get a snap like what youd expect from a chocolate covered ice cream bar. But still, delicious! Speaking of ice cream bars: they also offer them in the store in milk chocolate and dark chocolate, although Ive never tried them.

Good Italian Gelato. Small selection of flavors (and its a good thing) but all good

Heavvy cream, not enjoyable. Tastes are bland: very little contrast, same texture for all flavors. E.g. no bits of strawberry in the ice cream. Cones aftertaste not great either. Too extreme on the cream, not nicely balanced, boring flavors.

Great tasting gelato and they often have new flavors. Great location, a little less busy than University Ave but still right in downtown. Also like the wafer cookie dipped in chocolate that comes with every cup.

If you want to see how little of ice cream you can get for your money then go to this place. It was painful to watch them scoop the ice cream from the ice cream pan and then keep taking it away first from the scoop and then from the cone. I totally regret for not refusing the serving they gave me. And it was not cheap, actually I think it was the most expensive ice cream in the downtown area.

My wife and I have sampled about 20 icecream places in the Bay Area and Gelataio is the best of them.Favorite flavors: Espresso, Pistachio, roasted Coconut. Get it in a freshly baked Waflecone.

The hazelnut gelato instantly reminded me of the gelato I had in Italy - creamy, with deep tones of crisply roasted hazelnuts. Absolutely delectable! The coffee flavor is similarly flavorful and fragrant. Top everything off with a drizzle of chocolate, paired with a homemade waffle to seal the deal. I absolutely love mom and pop shops, and Gelataio is a perfect example why.

Best gelato in palo alto downtown. Double chocolate with dark chocolate melt on top is really tasty. My kids love it here.
