My expectations were high for this place, seeing as how the line wrapped around the building and down a side street. But unfortunately, my expectations were not completely met. :-( I got the honey lavender flavor, and while the consistency of the ice cream was very thick and creamy (which I loved), the lavender was too overpowering for my taste. Next time I would definitely try one of their monthly flavors and see if those hit the mark!
Their ice creams are to die for. Oh my god, theyre so delicious! The salted caramel ribbons is my favorite one. The chocolate brownie one would please all chocolate lovers. Their service is nice - they let everyone taste a few flavors before purchasing, and there are several options available. A must try!
This is where the Salt & Straw universe had landed! University Avenue in Palo Alto. The kinks from opening up have been smoothed out. Masks for those fully vacillated are optional.Got my favorite flavor cold brew cashew praline.Great in the afternoon as a pick up. The coffee is in the ice cream! Yummy 😋
We absolutely LOVED Salt & Straw! Melissa took great care of us and we got four incredible flavors in our ice cream flight. The creativity and innovation in their flavors is so unique and their waffle cones are the perfect combo of crunchy and chewy. Do yourself a favor and go over to Salt & Straw quick!
Im obsessed with Salt & Straw and have been trying every single new flavors since last September, so Im obviously biased. S&S flavors are creative, bold, and experimental - their ice creams are crafting with a whole lot of care and attention to detail. On average, their flavor combos are always good - even when I dont like the flavors, I cant say Ive eaten a bad scoop of ice cream. What sets S&S apart is that when the flavors combo work, theyre MAGICAL. Goat cheese habanero Marionberry? Genius. Stilton cheese in ice cream? A marriage of savory and sweet. Its this magic that keeps me eagerly coming back to S&S every month to see what theyve come up with.
Really good homemade flavors. I got the chocolate chip cookie dough and mint combination.. so good !!Their flavors are very unique and Im sure they change. You can have taste tests which is the best idea ever
The ice cream here is good but not worth the hype or the price. My main complaint is that the thing its most well-known for, the unusual flavor combinations, were underwhelming. There werent enough of them. They had four different berry flavors, seasonal I guess, that seemed to be the unusual flavors although, only three of them were odd(a good thing!).My husband got one of them that had goat cheese and something spicy (Cayenne maybe?) in it. He liked it but said there was hardly any heat. Thumbs down. I had cold brew and something else I dont remember. Thats pretty much a thumbs down for that since the interesting ingredients are the point, to me anyway. It was good ice cream, definitely. But it wasnt exciting and it was expensive. We went on a weekday afternoon, so we didnt have to wait, but Ive seen long lines during more popular times.
DELICIOUS! Salted Caramel flavor is worth all of the raves! Just the right amount of caramel and salt; waffle cone was fresh (I could see they were making cones as I was standing in line. The line, to order, at this location was reasonable and the service was quick but friendly. Cashier was multi-tasking with helping multiple customers at the same time (and doing a great job so all other staff could concentrate on scooping ice cream and making waffle cones). Checkout is via Square so receipt was emailed to me. Great experience and will go back. Ate too quickly to post a picture!
Just tried this place today. Tried the one with olive oil, the one with blue cheese, and opted to order the strawberry coconut water sherbet. The first two are pretty okay flavors. The pear and blue cheese one is surprisingly better than I thought it would taste. The strawberry one is just sweet enough.Great service.Loving the avoidance of single use spoons for tasters. The place could use a sitting area outdoors though.Pretty okay aesthetics.Could come back soon
This is one of my favorite ice cream shops yet! They have excellent and fast service. They sell ice cream in many different delicious flavors. Salt and Straw’s ice cream is very creamy and rich in flavor. You can choose to buy ice cream in a cone or cup, depending on how you’d like it. They also have those big ice cream containers filled with delicious ice cream that you can bring home to store in your fridge. You should definitely buy from this shop if you’re passing by and needing something nice and cold to eat on a hot summer day!! 🍨🍨🍦🍦
Love Salt & Straw ice cream chain. The ice cream are always delicious as usual and the seasonal flavors are a must try. I gave 4 star to this particular spot because of huge wait times.
Very strange flavors that taste delicious. Great customer service! They offered me and my friend like 7 samples each without either of us asking for it. Soooo yummy
This place is super popular. Be prepared for a line that extends outside and wraps around the shop. I would recommend ordering ahead of time via the site to avoid the wait unless you want the full experience of waiting in line and socializing while deciding on what to get (its tough to choose from so many good options). They have an eclectic collection of ice cream flavors, including a special limited time set of fun ones that follow a theme.Seating is limited to non-existent, so be prepared to wander outside. The street is closed off for the summer at least, so its a good idea to grab your ice cream and go for a walk or maybe try to find one of the few benches around.
The flavor combinations they have are daring and their names reflect that. Notably, the Brown Ale and Bacon as well as the Arbequina Olive Oil are strong, almost savory. The Pear and Blue Cheese, on the other hand, is sweeter than I expected. If youre looking for more classic flavors I would recommend going somewhere else, but, if youre feeling adventurous try this place out.
Loved the ice creams. Very authentic flavors..and finally ice cream that does not taste like sugar is THE flavor. Super helpful staff. We liked the birthday cake with blackberries the most.
Very unusual combinations, but not necessarily an abundance of options. Waffle cones are made fresh. Split option allows more flavors without making it bigger
Delicious classic flavors, bold rotating flavors and swoon worthy freshly made waffle cones. That said, I love coming here because their servers are so nice and friendly! It’s too bad they don’t let you try flavors out.Through my experiences I’ve learned the safest route is to pick a single with 2 flavors- a classic that I know I like, and one of the newer flavors to try.
We have been here a bunch of times. My husband LOVES Salt & Straw. We have been here pre-covid and again today. The lines can be really long but the employees are very good and patient with each customer. They have unique flavors and each store have their own special flavors as well. Today, the store was empty and we were the only ones there. We didnt taste or try any flavors but both flavors we ordered were yummy. You can also buy a pint as well but we opted for scoops to enjoy in the alley way socially distanced.
Tried Pear and Blue cheese ice cream in cone and boy it blew my mind! Amazing flavour, cheese taste was subtle….my fiance took honey lavender so I got to try that as well. Lavender was bit too floral and overpowering for me.. Since it ws not my ice cream, i wont rate it based on this flavour :p..Giving it a 5 for Pear and Blue cheese..Definitely going to try some more adventurous flavours here…
Visited on a Friday night with my husband and the line was out the door. The wait wasn’t too long. Was able to get a menu & make a decision before ordering. Ended up getting the “Tasting Flight,” which includes four kids scoops of whichever ice cream flavors you want for $11.50. We were happy with the choices we made. Favorite to least favorite: Fresh sheep’s cheese & strawberries; Sea salt with caramel ribbons (prepare for very intense flavors); Birthday cakes & blackberries; & Salted, malted chocolate chip cookie dough.
Amazing ice cream - good balance among flavors, textures, and sweetness. Salt and Straw offers unique flavors by working with local businesses. So one store may offers a flavor that one can’t get at others places. The best comparison is to compare the basic flavors - here are the Double vanilla, and a strawberries flavors. The double vanilla is rich yet not too sweet. The texture is soft and creamy. It is great by itself or as a root beer float. There are other interesting flavors but I think they are individuals’ choices. The line is always long here in the evening. $$ 7 dollars for a big tennis ball size scoop with their amazing fresh waffle cone. People in the line are pretty nice and friendly. Highly recommended.
Hipster ice cream. The selections are mostly weird flavors. I didnt much care for it, the waffle cones they make themselves. Those are pretty good. Service left a lot to be desired though. Plus I felt rushed.
Service is nice yet very slow, at times only one person is serving ice cream while theres at least 4 employees visible. The ice cream looked great but its nothing remarkable. Vainilla was rather milky, the brownie chocolate was ok, coffee ice cream was good too. The cone tasted like Oreo. Overall an ok place but nothing special and I would not wait for so long again
A most popular place. Friday night after dinner at Steam, we headed to S & S, to find the longest line on University Ave. (about 12 groups).Once inside we each ordered a 2-scoop cup. They have trendy flavors to choose from. About $7 each incl. tax and tip.
Salt and Straw is known for their quirky flavors, but really, every flavor is fantastic. Even if you just like plain vanilla or chocolate, theyve got you covered. Quick and friendly service seals the deal.
The staff was great and friendly, but the bacon flavored ice cream i ordered wasnt as bacon-y as I would have hoped. The ice cream wasnt bad though, and the flavor isnt why I only gave 3 stars.3 stars only because I saw the staff the day I visited directly handle the wafers and ice cream scoop without washing his gloves with soap...right after using a rag and cleaning spray to wipe down other furniture and surfaces. I hope you guys will be more careful in the future.
OMG I dont even have words. The salted caramel was a spiritual experience. Ive never been so present for every single lick of a good item in my life.
Got the 4 scoop flight Olive Oil, Honey& Lavender, Pear and Blue cheese, Choc MintIn that order
Great ice cream and great location. Honey lavender flavor is just too good!
Seasalt caremel was a bit too salty for my taste. They take extra care for someone who has allergy, which is nice for those allergic to nuts.Lavender Honey was okay, will try something else if I go again.
Great and unique flavors of ice-cream. Their split scoop option definitely allows you to easily try multiple flavors without having to opt for a double scoop albeit a bit smaller than the size of a normal scoop. A bit costly, but that’s likely due to the cost of business in the area. Their Sea Salt w/ Caramel Ribbons was a bit too salty for my liking but that aside was pretty enjoyable. The Honey Lavender was my favorite, it’s quite refreshing, mellow, enjoyable, and bathing you in tones of lavender that relax you. It pairs well the Arbequina Olive Oil, which by itself is also pretty good, a bit quirky but light and refreshing. The Pear and Blue Cheese is another quirky flavor with chunks of blue cheese and pear, the flavor profile varies from bite to bite. The bites of pear being a moist, fruity and delightful party on the taste buds and the bites with blue cheese being a bit dry, salty and sharp with a spectrum of creaminess. Definitely worth the visit, and I highly recommend the Honey Lavender and the Pear and Blue Cheese minus the Blue Cheese (which on it’s own would have easily been the highlight of my visit). Unfortunately I didn’t take pics, but I will get some on my next visit to try more flavors.
I dont go often because its pricey, but the flavours are delicious! The fresh waffle cones are also fantastic.
Amazing ice cream, cool vibes! The staff is SUPER friendly!
I cant understand why this place is so popular. I had honey lavender and cookie dough. They are okay, but IMHO, not enough to justify the long waiting. The price is reasonable.
The flavors here are a bit weird for my taste but my sister enjoys them so I’ll give 4 stars
Nice and attentive staff. Divine cones and ice cream.
I went here recently and I was amazed! They have a good menu of ice creams and when you walk in you get a smell of fresh made waffle cones. I ordered the salted caramel and I LOVED it!! A great place to bring your kids, family, or anyone who loves ice cream or has a sweet tooth on any day! Definitely recommend!!
Never been to salt and straw before today and it was honestly really good ice cream. The salted caramel with ribbons was so rich and creamy. Highly recommend this place. The line wasn’t too long and it was quick(spent 10 minutes there with 5 groups in front of us)
Every flavor is amazing. My favorite was gooey chocolate.Long queues at dinner time.Cones are fresh and paper napkins stick on cones as you eat the ice cream. Take care of that :p
Soo good! Super duper sweer so diabetes might want to stick to the kids scoop. Single scoop was too big.
The ice cream here is spectacular! Very creamy, super fresh, local ingrediants, cant ask for more. Their flavors are original, which include vegan ice cream and sherbert. They let me try most the flavors, all had their own uniqueness and tasted very good to fantastic. I couldnt decide on a favorite, they also seem good for different reasons.A must try if youre into homemade ice creams with unique twists and packed full of creamy flavors.
Crazy good ice cream. Crazy fun place to be at the end of the pandemic. They do a great job at taking care of their customers.
Geronimo Stilton and the frosted frozen beast is absolutely amazing!!We also tried the olive oil ice cream which was good, the honey lavender and the chocolate chip cookie.
Very cool place to grab some ice cream in downtown Palo Alto. Dont just go for the strawberry or vanilla. Youve got to try some of their more interesting flavors like olive oil or salted caramel cupcake. Be ready to wait in line for a few minutes, however.
Liked it but didnt LOVE it. Tried four flavors, they were all fine.
Waffle cones made fresh throughout the day. Ice cream is delicious.
I tried the Besharam lassi ice cream. It was divine. The ice cream itself was creamy and managed to capture the quintessential lassi flavor. There was a combination of saltiness and sourness that is unique to lassi. The idea of adding raspberries to lassi was a new one. I was looking to replace raspberries with blueberries. But the raspberries were probably the right choice. The sweetness of raspberries is truer than the tarty lightly sour sweetness of blueberries and can better contrast the lassi flavors.
This place wins the award for the most eclectic selection of ice creams in the bay!Love their Olive oil ice cream. It sounds terrible until you try it!
As i was waling inside the ice cream shop two of their staff were standing and giving samples of their product . Excellent place good ambience and the staff are very courteous more than that they are very patient and allowed to taste their ice creams. The quantity is good for the price, in fact i had a split ie two flavours and they charges were USD 5.50 . The menu itself very interesting and this is a must place to visit, as the ice creams are yummy and price is also economical and you can judge the popularity of the ice cream parlour by the crowd it pulss .
They’re Ice Creams are delicious 😋🍦💕🍨
Though pricey, Salt & Straw has some of the best ice cream youll find in downtown Palo Alto. Really creamy and tasty.
The ice cream is delicious, the service was better than most places I have encountered, and the flavors are unique.
Best service weve ever had! My wife has an allergy to dairy and gluten. We told them how we were impressed that the first thing they asked us if we had any allergies. The lady not only verified with others what ice creams were safe but they also got new tubs and scoops out for my wife so that there wasnt any cross contamination. And to top it off this place has sugar cones which are dairy and gluten-free! This was the first time my wife had a cone in years! Needless to say were blown away by the allergy awareness and flavor options Salt & Straw offered. We will definitely be coming back here! I would give more stars if I could.
Bit on the expensive side, but its pretty good ice cream!
Probably one of the best ice cream I have ever eaten.First thing, yes, there is a long queue outside this store almost always. You have to be patient and know what you want to taste/buy.I usually take the sea Salt caramel icecream because I find it to be the tastiest. To skip the line, there are some cup in the refrigerator next to the line, which you can pick and check out. But if you want a flavor from their smorgasbord, then you might have to stay in line. Also, they have seasonals, this time it was chocolate flavors, but it changes time to time.
Ummm delicious! Worth the line.
If you haven’t come here for their interesting and high quality ice cream I don’t know what’s wrong with you - go
Love the honey lavender flavor !! But beware of the loooong line...but the wait is definitely worth it
We’re always excited to see what are the new monthly flavors. After seeing the rabid commitment of fans in Portland where folks line up late into the evening to taste and buy, it’s great to see that we have a strong fan base here in CA. The ingredients are always too notch and the flavors are innovative.
The line is really long, but the unique ice cream flavors are worth the wait
Pretensions abound. High fat ice cream, exotic flavors. Pricey. Not for kids.
An ice cream shop with concept. This place values local ingredients and is inventive in nature. They have many interesting flavours and you can try them. I had fermented strawberry banana and nutto bread flavour which surprisingly taste great and fairly easy to eat (even though I normally dont fancy natto). Id have given it 5 stars if they have provided water and have more size options. If you want to eat their waffle cone, you have to eat this size ($6.25) which I personally think that it is unnecessarily too large.
Very good. Large serving. Friendly staff.
Great ice cream and wonderful pick up service, fast and easy, loved it!
We waited close to 30min in line before getting in. It was definitely worth the wait! The Vegan Mint Chocolate was amazing! If Iived here, I would definitely be here every week.
Absolutely amazed by the variety of flavors and the courteous customer service from Ladaisha despite the crazy long line being national ice cream day! She went out of her way to make my friends and I feel like we were the only ones in the store while still maintaining a rhythm that kept everybody on track. A+ plus! She’s a real keeper!
Their cold brew coffee cashew praline hits the spot on a hot day, and I normally dont like coffee. Thats how good it is. Service was friendly and prompt.
Very different and delicious ice cream! Enjoyed it and will come again 😋🍦
Interesting flavors that had great taste. Long line to wait, but it moved fast.
Ordered pints to go and it was quick and easy. Their flavors are always interesting and the base ice cream is a good quality
Despite the cold weather in Mountain View, my daughter and I went for an incredible ice cream here. It was great!
The queue can be a bit too long most of the times but absolutely worth the wait! One of the best ice cream places in the bay area.
