I really didnt know what to expect visiting Kyoto Matcha. To my delight the cakes were so good. I ordered the strawberry cap cake and the sweet potato towel cake. Both were moist and not overwhelming sweet which is just how I like my deserts to me. The restaurant is in a great location to sit outside and people watch while enjoying your desert.
Cute place! Nice customer service. They are doing a great job with Covid guidelines.Desserts are really cute! I didn’t like my dessert because I don’t have any experience with Asian desserts but my friends were obsessed with them.Fair prices, cool location, and quick.I recommend this place. Love the decor.
I went here for my friend’s birthday and, while Matcha isn’t my favorite flavor, everything was really good. I got the Sakura Cheese Mousse Cake and a matcha drink with strawberries and almond milk. The mousse cake was amazing so 10/10. The drink was good too, I do wish there was a bit more strawberry sauce in it though. Customer service was great; overall, I really recommend this place if you want a sweet treat!
Kyoto Matcha is a Rockville gem!My wife and I have been frequenting Kyoto Matcha for awhile and always choose them for great dessert gifts for our friends. These desserts are like art. They are beautiful and always packaged so well! Weve tried so many different things and the following are our favorites...Peach Oolong Layered Crepe CakeMatcha Layered Crepe CakeEarl Grey Layered Crepe CakePurple Potato Towel CakeMatcha Red Bean Towel CakeMatcha Roll CakeSakura CheesecakeRose Strawberry Milk Cap CakeAnd the soft serves are also fantastic!Prices are reasonable for what you are getting!
Fantastic place for tea and desserts! Service is excellent. Very welcoming and attentive. We ordered matcha crepe, milk tea crepe, dream of sakura, hot matcha and matcha latte 50% sweet. Everything very good. Dream of Sakura is the highlight! A little peanut powder or a little brown sugar syrup with a bite of jello is heaven. Floral but not overwhelming. So worth it! Next time Ill get the soft serve when its warmer.
I love trying new things here. The matcha latte float is my favorite. I do wish they had more sugar level options, but I imagine most people will be satisfied with the three they have: 100%, 50%, 0%.
The best matcha I’ve had around this area! The soft serve was so smooth and had the perfect balance of flavor. I bought several of the crepes (peach oolong, tiramisu, and matcha) all of which were beautiful and delicious. The boba cake (not the actual name) was great as well. It essentially tastes like Japanese cheesecake with a sort of cream layer that tasted like sea salt créma. The tapioca was a nice texture and made well.
Kyoto Matcha Desert- just like its name, Matcha. If you like matcha/ green tea taste, then, come, buy and enjoy...🤣🤣🤣🤣It is a good place to spending your leisure time.. I love their deserts, such as the the matcha roll cake.. so delicious 😋..The cashier was friendly and patiently to wait for me when I ordering my food. Inside is clean and neat(sorry that I didn’t take any photo of inside because those food was 😊 good). As a foreigner, I am So happy to know part of Japanese-style matcha culture.
Fantastic matcha soft serve and cakes. The star of the show was the Dream of Sakura pictured below. It looks better than it tastes but cool to experience nonetheless. My friends and I loved the Matcha Nama Chocolate too. This is the perfect spot to grab dessert after dinner and take a stroll in Rockville. The one area of improvement I would suggest is the customer service.
Omggg, the desserts at Kyoto Matcha! The simple soft serve mix of milk and matcha flavors stands by itself, but throw in all the toppings, drinks, and pastries and you could enjoy being here every day of the week. The prices are actually reasonable too! 🍦
This place is one of my favorites. The ambience is nice with good music. The food and drinks are delicious. My favorite drink is the matcha with cream and the towel cakes are delicious. Their matcha soft serve is also really good. They validate parking as well. Can get crowded during the weekends
Great dessert spot especially if you like things on the less sweet side. Had the matcha red bean towel cake and it was very good and not so sweet. All the cakes are 8-9 bucks but good to split between two people. They also have a lot of soft serve and boba tea that seemed very popular. Great late night dessert spot
The service is slow and terrible. People who work there, got my order in correct and made it an issue to give us our correct order. Second time I come in, I request a cup of milk because my latte was poorly made.
Try their soft serve matcha and their crepe Cakes! Yummy matcha desserts
We got the matcha towel cake, its like heaven! Thin crepe like wrapping matcha crème with a touch of red bean. Its not sweet like a ton of sugar just the way I like it. Everything just matches so well in every bit. Will absolutely be coming back as the menu is huge and gotta to try all.of them. Prices are reasonable. Its inside Rockville Town Center, very convenient location too.
The soft serve is a great portion size and so creamy. The matcha roll cake tastes fresh, soft, and has great details. Dont be afraid of the red beans, they add more sweetness and texture. There is so much to try here!
I can’t detail the quality of the food because I’m still waiting. We put our order in online and hour ago, drove here to pick it up and they had not even started to make it because they were busy. So basically no need to call it in because they will only prioritize the folks coming in first. No customer service.
Best soft serve matcha in the area. Great service. The portions for the buck are worth it.
This place is very quaint and cool! I think it opened pretty recently but the desserts are very trendy and tasty. I had the dream of Sakura and the black sesame mochi, which was very tasty. The mochi was smaller than I thought it was for its price, but I think for how trendy the desserts are the prices are pretty reasonable. The dream of Sakura was very good, although I wouldn’t recommend eating the flower because it was kind of sour heheI love matcha though and this place was a cool place to open in RTC.
Delicious, most authentic-flavored matcha ice cream Ive had! However, the workers dont know proper customer service. I placed an online order for ice cream pick-up so I assumed it would be a quick in-and-out experience. I walked in and one worker was helping a woman. I saw another worker walking around and thought he would either acknowledge I was there or ask me how he could help me. Instead, I stood there waiting for the 1st worker to help the woman go through EVERY SINGLE ITEM on the menu. Logically, at a certain point, the worker shouldve stopped and asked the 2nd worker to help me. I waited about 15 minutes after my pick up time for something that ended up taking 1 minute!
Ive been waiting for this place to open for a while and they did not disappoint! Their matcha blends are quality and the desserts are fine and tasty! I got the hot matcha latte and a piece of brown sugar boba cake with a milk foam top. The latte was quite sweet, I think Ill get it at half sugar next time, but the matcha concentration and quality was excellent. The milk foam was fresh and a perfect balance of salty-sweet to top off a moist slice of sponge cake, with the boba pearls adding a nice texture contrast. All in all a great place to catch a nice green tea snack!
I love this place, I love the desserts. The aesthic is so pretty, service is quick and easy and most importantly the desserts are delicious! Please go check them out, if you love trying new foods, if you love matcha and if you love experiencing food inspired by different cultures - you will love this spot. 15/10. Love it.
Chic Stylish Japanese Dessert Shop !I took my Japanese friend to visit this shop a week ago. The location is awesome, near metro station, so many restaurants around and there is even an ice skating arena built up in front of the store. So you can burn out some calories if you ever feel guilty after devouring the delicious soft serve Matcha ice cream. The vibe of the shop is chill, laid - back and cozy. Ideal for couple or friends hanging-out. Decorated with Japanese cherry blossom and furnished with wooden bench, it could really make you feel like living in Japan. We had Matcha soft serve ice cream, Matcha latte and Matcha tiramisu.Starting from Matcha soft serve ice cream, it is light but creamy, you’ll notice vegetal notes, a pleasant, but not astringent bitterness, nuttiness, and a smooth sweetness. While aftertaste give you a bit of hit from the Matcha that will linger in your month for a while. I would say they definitely didnt go too hard on Matcha, which is perfect for me, the sweetness and bitterness is balanced out without one overpowering another.Matcha latte is made of whole milk, has quite a bit of foam on the top, which could be frothed better. I am a fan of Matcha latte made of oat milk, (or any plant-based milk)since the animal fat will somehow becomes too presented in the drinks where you wish you could appreciate the vegetal notes from the Matcha.Matcha tiramisu has a cute presentation. Holding them in a traditional bamboo box is an original brilliant idea! This dessert is decent, creamy and made fresh. As a baker myself, it is lacking some texture and a hint of marsala wine. The ladyfingers were buried under a think layer of mascarpone cheese, all the way the bottom, making me have to dig hard to find the Matcha infused sponge cakes.Overall, the shop is definitely recommend if you are a Matcha Lover or dessert lover or you just want to chill with friends after a meal.
Came here during the soft opening. They have a nice variety of sweets and desserts, from ice cream to cakes. We got the soft-serve matcha ice cream, matcha red bean towel cake, and sakura dream. They use real quality matcha but not much of it. I prefer a stronger matcha flavor like what you get at Bon Matcha. The texture and quality of the foods are good, but I do wish they used more matcha, especially considering the price. Portion sizes were decent, but they give you more ice cream at Bon Matcha for cheaper. You can tell I prefer Bon Matcha ice cream (if only it wasnt in the middle of DC).The service was decent; I think they need more training and experience. It is only a soft opening though, so thats expected. The girls do need to tie their long hair back though. I also find it strange they do not have disposable spoons. Forks yes, but not spoons. Spoons are metal. The space is newly renovated and redecorated. It is a bit small with limited seating. We were able to go next door where Taro Cents Family is supposed to be and sit there. The bathrooms are also in that section of the store; single occupancy men/women bathrooms. In all, maybe I will come back....
Kyoto Matcha is a matcha-inspired dessert cafe in Rockville Town Center that specializes in ice cream and soft serve, drinks, cakes, daifuku and rice mochi, mochi ice cream, shaved ice, and more.Due to its presentation, I ordered a Parfait, which consisted of layers of Chestnut Gelatin, Matcha Sponge Cake Bits, Cornflakes, Red Bean, and Rice Mochi topped with a swirl of Matcha and Milk Soft Serve Ice Cream. When compared to what I had in Kyoto, it was just okay. I am not sure if the corn flakes were supposed to add a crunch to the dessert but I felt it didnt belong in this parfait. It wasnt bland but light in Matcha flavor. If I were to return to Kyoto Matcha, Id stick with just the soft serve ice cream on a cone or cup.
Customer service is not good. The drink is a little bit sweeter than I think, so I try to order a glass of ice to put into the drink. One of the employee says no with a really bad attitude.
The tiramisu crepe cake is transcendent, it granted me three wishes without the clause about wishing for more wishes. The tiramisu crepe cake gave me magic powers. The tiramisu crepe cake rewrote the fifth Harry Potter book and now Sirius doesnt die. (spoilers, sorry)
We ordered a few items and all of them were great! I love matcha ice cream and it was great and very firm. The store was safe and everyone had masks on. I called ahead and they answered right away. No complaints here! We’ll be back
Ordered via ubereats. Carefully packaged and delivered, excellent quality matcha drinks/cakes. Customer service is fantastic, one ordered item ran out, so they called me to ask about replacement. Asked them to surprise me, and the replacement items were just as dreamy as the rest of my order. I personally cant stand sweet foods, so this is the perfect place for delicious desserts, that are not just sugar-packed sweets, but you taste the subtle bitterness and signature flavour of matcha. This is the matcha-lovers heaven!
Great place. The whole family is in love with their food...
1st review.Green tea Soft serve is delicious. It is strong flavor. Cake is also tasty. Nice and clean atmosphere.2nd review: I came back again for the third times and ordered the matcha soft serve. Its inconsistent. The color is so off light (light green, it supposes to be dark green). It tastes just sweet. No matcha smell at all. But the cake is still delicious. I believe the recipe is accurate but the person who make the soft serve doesnt get trained well. Hope they can fix this problem because i really like their matcha
Wowsers where to start, my favorite GO-TO dessert spot. their japanese desserts are on point.👌 if youre a matcha or green tea fan in general, this place will not disappoint. I do wish the interior was built wider for more spots to sit, since its always so crowded. Ive tried almost every mainstream dessert on the menu. My favorite is either the peach oolong crepe cake, matcha green tea towel cake or the sakura rain drop cake with the edible cherry blossom. You can get almost any dessert and drink to go. Their portable drink cups are spill proof, I kept mine and washed it so I could reuse it. Lol I dont want to say anymore, but I think you should definitely see how it is for yourself.
What a great place. I have tried a variety of things here and all of them were delicious. My favorite thing is the soft serve, but they have a nice variety of desserts and drinks. Perfect place for a weekend date.
It was like stepping into wonderland hahaI love matcha! I got a soft serve milk and matcha swirl. It was a sizeable portion and tasted wonderful. A great blend of matcha and milk flavor.
The matcha mochi ice cream was great and the outdoor seating was very comfortable
It was pretty good and their ice cream was great, but their prices are very high.
Today was my first time EVER going to Kyoto Matcha after my partner brought home some of their pastries over a month ago. I am such a matcha lover and I absolutely appreciated the gentleman who greeted us 10 minutes before they closed! He was so sweet and kind, and told us to take our time even though we were trying to rush as to not inconvenience them closing on time. I ordered several items as I didnt know when Id be back even though we drove 3 HOURS to visit Kyoto Matcha♡ and the gentleman gave us a huge discount which we were so so grateful for! If you are ever in the 7 cities area of VA, please stop by Hayashi Sushi Bar & Grill in Newport News. My partner is one of the main sushi chefs there and would love to have you. Thank you again! I hope to visit again soon.
I love their matcha ice cream! And its a sweet deal too. Not nearly as expensive as soft serve in Bethesda. And its much easier to get to than the matcha place in Tysons Corner mall.
A bit pricey but quality of dessert is tip notch. Very rich matcha taste
Thats the best we can rate this dessert place. The presentation is good. However, the flavor is average at best. For the price of the experience, it is not worth it. The 4 star ratings or better on here is due to placing the bar too low.
Amazing desserts for take out and matcha tea. My favorite cake is the Hokkaido Milk Salty Roll even though the matcha is really their specialty. They are really good at packing the desserts for off site consumption!
Extremely slow, once you place your order, it would be better for you to hangout with friends for at least 2 hours. After 2 hours, surprise!you still need to air there for 30 mins
The food and drink items (matcha latte, matcha nama chocolate, Earl Grey crepe cake) were delicious and worth the wait (service was a bit slow).
Buy 4 cakes yesterday $37 in total. I eat as breakfast today, however,I eat a rock from Peach Oolong Layer Crepe Cake, lucky my teeth don‘t crack. At the beginning,I just want talk this experience with Kyoto Matcha by Instagram, but they don’t really care about this issue,it makes me upset. They said would offer me a free one at my next visit, but I don‘t think I will come back again.
Lovely deserts that arent too sweet and the best matcha
Ice cream is good the matcha crepe cake is okay
Delicious matcha made my day.
Slow service but great desserts and drinks!
I had the yuzu cheesecake with a cheese matcha latte, half sweet. Incredible. The flavors were delicate and the environment relaxing. The perfect amount of red bean and whipped cream. The cheesecake was so soft, and while distinctly yuzu, not overpoweringly so. The latte was mild, which I appreciated as it complimented the yuzu very well. The process from walking in to receiving food was quick and easy. The employee was calm, nice, and proficient to the point she became a part of the atmosphere.Lastly, the menu is equally diverse as it is appetizing, and I definitely see myself coming back to experience more of it. I also really appreciated only having one size for the drink as it made the ordering process simpler and streamlined.
Warning the brown sugar bobba milk cap cake is just like eating a fluffy pancake with a lot of butter and light cream on top. I personally dislike the taste of butter as it makes me feel heavy. Just a warning . The tiramisu layer cake was good but personally like the original form better.
Green tea in tea pot was awesome! Free hot water refills. Had a few of the cakes. I would not recommend the cap cakes. The cake beneath the strawberry covering is very sponge like and it taste quite artificial. The parfait is worth getting. The atmosphere is great. Ill go back for the tea
Delicious but a little expensive
I tried Kyoto matcha for the first time and got the mixed soft serve ice cream. Im not generally a dessert person but thought this was great! The soft serve was very creamy and was satisfying with every bite. I got it without toppings but if youre a textural person I could see how topping with corn flakes might add that little salty crunch that might make it even better. In fact maybe Ill try that next time? Anyways awesome place, Id recommend it to a friend.
Nice matcha Multilayered cake! Less sweets than lady M but That’s what I liked!
Ordered matcha latte, matcha crepe cake, and the matcha puff. All tasted average but the crepe cake. I was very disappointed at the cake. It was like 80 percent cream layered with crepes, and it felt like I was eating just the cream. It costs the same as lady m but tastes far worse in my opinion
Absolutely perfect place to eat dessert and hang out with friends! The matcha was delicious and so was the milk cap cake. They finally started to open for dine-in, so please check them out when you’re in Rockville!!
We just love the taste, the shape, the color and the feeling of the cakes here!
The matcha ice cream in a cone was on point. We deff went back to try other things and we love everything so far. Yes, be prepared to drop a few bucks because it’s a little on the pricy side but we think the food and experience is worth it.
Oh my GOD? this is absolutely amazing, i got the matcha crepe cake from here and the quality & taste is stunning, if you’re not careful, you could totally fall in love with everything on the menu.
The Earl grey tea crepe cake was AMAZING!
The slightly bitter Matcha soft service ice cream is perfectly balanced out by the sweet Vanilla swirl, and the crushed Oreo topping is divine! Skip the cone and just get the cup, itll save you a mess! PlusWhile youll get plenty of ice cream in the cone, the ice cream topples over the cheap lightweight cone and creates a sticky mess! A thick housemade crispy waffle cone would do the trick and be sturdy enough to hold all the ice cream while elevating the flavor with a nice crunch. The cheap store bought chocolate cone tasted like cardboard and did nothing to elevate the flavor, a travesty! The staff member who brought out my ice cream cone foresee a delightful mess and gave me a cup, which came in handy. If you know the cone isnt going to work, why still sell it? Either dont replace it with a sturdy waffle cone or just sell ice cream a in a cup.The housemade waffle cone at Cafe Matcha Maiko at Tysons is delicious, but the matcha soft serve is more bitter and prefer Kyotos. Wish I could get best of both worlds - soft serve at Kyotos Matcha and waffle cone at Matcha Maiko. The lack of Covid guidelines for social distancing is dismal and disappointing. Theres a large outdated menu plastered on the window front with a new menu in super small font featured inside to draw more people in I guess. To order, you have to enter through a double set of doors in a very narrow corridor. Theres no signage on the floor or the walls to indicate the 6 feet apart. Its not enforced by the staff either. The customers behind me were LESS than a FOOT away. I was incredibly uncomfortable and rushed through my order. I had a bit of trouble communicating with the staff member and didnt get a firm response on whether the waffle cone was housemade and naively just went with it.Overall I enjoyed the Matcha Vanilla swirl with crushed Oreos and well worth the trek from McLean. Kyoto Matcha has a lot of potential and would love to bump it up to 5 stars after it gets a waffle maker and enforces Covid 19 guidelines!
Called to see if I could order a matcha cake. Was told they are too busy to take my call and I should call back latter. Maybe they are understaffed or maybe they really don’t care about customer service and dont need an extra dollar.I have never been told “we are too busy for your money“ lolGlad they are doing so well during a pandemic.I will look somewhere else for a matcha cake.
Thoroughly enjoyed it here even though it’s COVID-19 Friendly staff as well ♡
