Went to eat here with my parents. We have had Afghan food before and love it, but this was perhaps the best food and experience we have ever had. We ordered several kabobs (all lamb) which included organ meat and it was DELICIOUS! Our server, Parisa, was awesome and so kind! We really enjoyed speaking with her and she took really good care of us. The other Afghan restaurants in San Diego dont even come close to the quality and value available at Ariana Produce & Cuisine. Can I give 10 stars?
I called them to check if fresh cut baby goat is available and they replied YES . Once I reached the store - I was little suspicious about the goat meat in the store - the size of the meat looks kind of like a grown goat meat and color of the meat looks more red. So I asked the person in charge that this doesnt look like baby goat and to which he replied it is, it is. I took 4 lbs. of meat and to my surprise while cooking, I realized that meat is not tender as it is lot of time to get cooked. Definitely it is not fresh cut baby goat meat. So guys please be careful, if you can differentiate goat meat and fresh cut baby goat meat. You might make a quick buck now, but I am not satisfied with this product - My business with your store is done.
Fresh and good quality mutton available. Good people
One of different foods I have ever tried. I stay near by and I just searched in yelp and I found 5 stars and wanted to give a try. After entering the store it is both a cuisine, halal market and grocery store.Coming to food it was awesome. I had lamb kabob and a buffet(10.99$) it was super awesome. I get to see all the dishes so much authentic Iranian food.
The food is great, I go there atleast once a month, the food is pretty healthy, and the prices are decently cheap. I recommend it! 😀
Food was not great, just went for haleem could not eat a spoon. Only skewers are good. Biryani was dry, haleem is tasteless.
What a cool little hole in the wall Mediterranean spot. The food was delicious and filling! The owners are friendly. And I thought the Mediterranean vibe inside was low key but cool and different. Definitely wouldn’t hesitate to try it!
Friendly and very professional staff. So healthy and great cook.
They are good guys!
Went to buffet. buffet was not at all good. Felt like they have served yesterdays food. Could not taste a spoon of haleem. nothing was good except skewers.
They closed the restaurant, only the grocery store remains open.
The worst place and expensive $11 per pound and most of the time they sell rotten meat except week end. People are rude. I never go again
Its a small family run shop. Understandable for it to have storage and clutter if theyre running it as their residence part of the time, but during business hours, keeping it tidy/somewhat presentable is probably a good idea. I came here to support a small/local restaurant, but it took 5 mins for them to track down a menu and it was unsettling how grimy it was. Covered in stains and old food residue. Its unfortunate. Based on this, I didnt want to order any food. Im even concerned about ordering delivery based on this experience on the exterior of the shop. I really wanted to give it a chance but it didnt feel sanitary
I lived in Sorrento Valley for 1 year and this was by far my favorite place in the proximity. Nice people, very good food, awesome grocery store, ...
It is the only shop in my near vicinity to get Goat Meat. The Baby Goat they have almost tastes like Indian Goat. They say that they baby goat is a fresh one. The cost is reasonable. They also have bones, lover and other parts of goat. It will be a mixed meat only.Chicken is also cut and delivered very fresh there. Buying whole chicken is the best thing to do.Some Mediterranean items are available there. Things like aroma diffusers, essential items and tea are also good.
Ordered some decent quantity of food to go. The food was decent taste and quality. However what was annoying was that I asked for some extra chutney sauce on the side and the lady told me I have to buy it. On a $60 take out order it would have been a good gesture and customer service to just give on the house two 2 oz sample sauces rather than ask to pay for it.
Decent shop and meat as well !
One of the best places in town to try authentic Afghan and other middle eastern cuisine. Other than their very reasonably priced, good portioned menu items, you can buy delectable sweets and grocery items/spices. Finally, fresh halal meat for cooking at home. Parking is easy in the lot and seating is decent sized. Staff is very warm and welcoming.
One stop shop. Freshest products. Reasonably priced. Owner/manager will guide you in the healthy nuances of Mediterranean cuisine. Very helpful and knowledgeable. Eat in or take out. Bulk foods. Hard to find Specialty products. Clean.
Great place for halal grocery and decent Afghan food.
Looks like there was a change of management and the meat they sold me yesterday was of poor quality despite making the request to recheck. Dont take the butcher word for meat quality.
I regret even to give 1 star to this people. If you are a MUSLIM they treat you the BEST. Indians, Sorry to say, but I am sure you can find alternative shops. I wish there is another shop that opens soon. I hope these people learn to respect everyone. I am not the first person who felt this way.
Great customer service, delicious meat, unforgettable taste!
Oh my - it was actually DELICIOUS! Pretty cheap too. I like this place!! The person who helped me was so kind and welcoming.. Its rare these days.I got 2 entrees.. Both delicious. if You dont know, Afghan food is awesome. I have some Afghan friends and its great.Healthy and vegetarian options! Grocery store on one side, and restaurant on the other. 👍 👍 👍
The food is always super delicious! It takes a little longer because its all made fresh and you can tell by how delicious all the food is. Our favorites items here are the gyro wrap, bolani with chives and the ferni, oh the ferni is so good. While you wait for your food check out the Ariana store that is attached, we go there for all our spices while we wait for our order.
Wonderful place for Mediterranean food! Ive been trying to find anything that rivals the flavor profile and home cooked stuff out in LA and this was hands down the best. The place is a bit worn but the family that runs the shop is diligent and experienced. Every dish is prepared with care and I absolutely love the menu options. This place leans towards more middle eastern as opposed to Greek or whatever the chain places in the area serve. The owners are very friendly and helpful and the portions are huge! Do yourself a favor and order a chive bolani and any of the beef dishes, youll be in flavor heaven shortly after it arrives.
The fish and chicken here is fresh and tasty.
Nice place to buy halal meat like chicken goat and beef. They also sell frozen fish. They do sell liver which has lots of health benifits which you may not find in other shops.
I ordered from the store and got ripped off. I ordered 1 goat, around 30 pounds. But he only gave me 20 pounds, which is only 2/3 of what I was promised. He charged me $279. I still had to pay full price for only 2/3 if the goat. He was very dishonest
This produce was amazing!! We loved the shop and as Afghans very impressed. Food was extraordinary, service was phenomenal and the shop was awesome. Highly recommend to any one in need of South Asian food and produce. Coming back next time I am in San Diego.
We ordered kurbani and when we picked up the meat and brought it home, it weighed only 15 pounds. He promised the meat was 25-30 pounds.
This is a place you want to order food from! It’s great if you have to bring a dish for a party or are hungry and want an absolutely satisfying lunch or dinner. It’s authentic Afghan cuisine and supporting this familyOwned business is the way to go! And after you order food grab some sweets and tea !!! I
Despite what reviews say I am convinced that the food served is mediocre. Ariana has both buffet and off the menu choices. The buffet is $11.00 and does not justify the lentil, potato, fried spinach, and a meat dish that has more bones than meat. Most of the items have a gallon of oil in them or is highly salty. Once I’ve been served something from a microwave. I believe their bread is frozen that is heated on the stove. With regards to service it’s terrible. At times there are only two people who run the grocery and the restaurant at the same time and service suffers. Even if they have an extra hand that person does not even ask if we need anything. I’ve seen people complain about being handed the wrong order for carry out. This is probably not the best place to get food. I live one mile away and have given this place many opportunities prior to posting this review. All the great reviews from food guides are actually paid for giving good reviews because they have a contractor who adds good reviews for them.
Worst meat and service, san Diego needs more halal meat shops.
Not the same as the pictures. I didnt find anything that I went for.
Haven’t ordered from the restaurant but their market looks like something you would see on a hoarders show. Very unorganised and everything is expired. They had bread stacked up which was all yellow and purple as if it’s been sitting there that way for a week. Don’t come here.
Extremely disappointed with price discrepancy. Different guys charge different prices for chicken and lamb, got ripped off last time the guy with beard who I believe is handling business during Covid lockdown charged me 10.99 a pound of goat. Unacceptable. As a market owner you dont want customers to ask/plead you to charge the right price. At the same time I ordered chicken kabab from their restaurant to go it was very salty and I had to throw it away. Extremely unhappy and I probably will never go back there again.
Indian style chicken
Do not go if you arent of a certain people....my wife is black and I am white. The open hostility of the customers towards us coupled with the fact I waited at the checkout for about 15 min with no one to help us made this a place I will never return to. My food was on the counter waiting to be checked out and another customer walked up seeing me and cut in front, dropped his food on mine. I casually put mine back on top and waited to be served. My wife and I are patient people and do not ever try to bring trouble anywhere. All I was trying to do was spend my money here.I will go to the stores in Anaheim where all are welcome.
Better to put board only for Muslim. I was in the queue long time. One Muslim lady came later, but she didn’t follow the queue. Butcher asked who was first and I Said I m the one first came and the butcher also knew I m the one first came .but he served the Muslim lady . Even 3 other Indian people are also waiting after me . They are racist . They give respect only Muslim. All Indian people don’t have other choice to get meat nearby(fresh). Only the reason we r still going. I m going to complain to customer department .
Unprofessional owner, not clean, and with a very bad attitude, ba Kale kal khod 👴🏼👴👴🏻
The man is very dishonest. We ordered for $300 to get 30 pounds of goat meat. But we only got 20 pounds of goat meat. This is extremely unfair.
I love the food at the restaurant in the back of this Afghani supermarket! The chicken kabobs are so tender they melt in your mouth and are not dry like many other chicken kabobs. Also the rice is so good, not sure how they do it but wow its delicious! Owner is very friendly as well. There are a few booths and several tables and chairs for dine in or get it to go. Some of the most reasonable & delicious Afghani cuisine in town.
The food quality, taste and value for money is excellent. At the same time, the customer service is the slowest I have ever come across. I am a very regular customer because this is the closest halal place near me but their service leaves a lot to be desired. I hope they improve it soon.
I been here several time and used thier food. Awosem Afghani Kabab, Rice ( Qabeli, ... and other delicious food) with good prices.
Great place to find all the spices and dried goods that are hard to come by in a common grocery store. Also had lunch there and it was awesome!
This is go to place for good middle eastern food and fresh meat in Mira Mesa area
Great place for Halal food and groceries. All varieties of fresh meat are available at very reasonable price.People are friendly and honest.
Their customer service is not good at all. I come to this shop every once in a while. I have told the owner so many times about cleaning fat off while cutting their goat meat pieces. they weigh their meat along with a lot of fat on it. I had never objected to that. But I have told them so many times not to include fat in the pieces they cut. But they never listen. They are selling bad product consistently.I am attaching pictures of the pieces these guys cut for me from the baby goat leg I ordered. Please improve your quality. I dont pay for fat in my goat. I remember telling them this at numerous occasions.Another thing these guys make everyone wait. I have waited up to 40 minutes to get meat.Their baby goat meat is fresh but with a lot of fat and cut un-professionally.The way the butcher hands over the meat in a bag that is covered in blood and is wet. No cleanliness.I really hope this review is taken seriously by the owners and that they improve their overall experience for their customers.
Simply the best place to try authentic afghan food. Best customer service plus delicious dishes.
Really Great place to shop the meat is CLEAN... No steroids No poisons No Antibiotics. All Free Range and Organic. I used to go to Poway for all of this great Meat now i just go down the road on Camino Ruiz. I am really happy they are open and so close. Very nice people and very willing to cut meat any way i need it. No Problem.
I ordered the Shawerma wrap. The bread was excellent but the chicken was dry and a bit hard. The chicken seemed like it was precooked & reheated when I ordered my wrap. The portion size was large. I feel it was a good value for the cost.
The meat is fresh. I have an issue with the waiting. There is no one to help you when you go there. Today my wait was over 30 minutes and i was the only customer.
The food and service was great!!! Everyone was very nice and had great customer service. Definitely recommend this place for both the restaurant and market.
They charged TIP OF 20% on my bill for buying raw lamb meat (not cooked food) without asking me. I have never seen that before, not going to this place again.
Beat place to buy fresh mutton. Q
We go here primarily for baby goat meet. we always get fresh halal meet. I defiantly recommend this place for fresh meet and food
Really nice place to get fresh chicken, Lamb, Goat or Beef. You will be amazed with the quality. They cut the meat also to your needs. Very friendly and not expensive.
Good for its meat.We tried their Goat Biryani. The price was reasonable for the quantity. But was bland and tasteless. It tasted nothing like biryani.
Good Afghani food at affordable prices. Tasty veg options as well
Good place for mediterranean food and meat. They sell fresh baby goats, bit pricey but worth it. Theyve a whatsapp group, if you enroll theyll send notifications when they receive fresh meat. Theyve VIP discount plan as well, theyll give discounts based on number of visits.
Owner is nice, good employees, hand slaughtered chicken, very tasty biryani
Great chicken swarma salad
Omg the waiting time is too long, if you them for order for having fresh meat they respond yes, but when you go to store no fresh meat, he takes out the frozen meat from storage. They sell things in high prices than other stores.
I love coming by and grabbing my meat from this shop. Superior quality and very carefully prepped. I always get a couple of pounds of the carne asada, if its not marinated just ask. The chicken cuts dont have bone shards and are very fresh. Grab some of the spice packets and mango juice from the fridge. The owner is extremely friendly and goes out of his way to give you want you want.
Good place to buy Halal meats and Groceries. Very fresh Lamb, Goat meats and Chicken. Some times no stocks on Sundays.
Last week I was at ariana produce at lunch time and I was hungry so I got a plate of rice and kabab it was delicious I will definitely go back
They have fresh goat meat and chicken.. but not maintained neatly ..
Today(9/16/17) went to shop to get a baby goat meat.My observations:1. The shop is unhygienic condition(temp. also high inside shop) and am sure this will affect health after eating spoiled meat.2. They sell ground goat by telling baby goat and charge more(so ordered whole chicken with above said 2 reasons)...3. Staff is not friendly and they least bothered about customers(today ordered whole chicken, they didnt checked with me on: what kind of cut required...they decided and cut the meat...very pissed off with the very big size cut)I never go again to this shop as I am not ready to spoil my health. They didnt deserve 1 star rating also...but rating as system not allowing me to rate ZERO.
Excellent Afghani food. Bolani and Koobideh my favorite.
Have been a regular customer since last 4 years . The quality of meat is excellent always . Highly recommend Baby goat meat.
Best butcher in San Diego. Really friendly people. Cuts the chicken(Skin off) + Mutton into small pieces for free.
Best kabob, biryani and raw meat
We went to eat food. The couple running the place are very nice. TheyTheir Bolani (kachaloo) is really good. We also got chicken skewer, it was very tender. The chapli kabob
Its a small store with Arabic cuisine and sells halal meat
Steak kabobs are filet mignon
Most authentic halal meat, especially their Lam and goat. Get their bones for soup broth, to make a good impression on your guest.
Superb food and customer service. Try the flat Afghan Casadillas with potatoes. also amzing juicy chicken! Thank you guys!!
Good place to buy Goat and chicken meat.
Deeeelish! Tried the lamb and beef kabob combo, and the salmon combo. Excellent! Comes with yogurt and green (hot) sauces, salad, and lots of basmati. The lamb was particularly good--not even slightly gamey. While waiting for our entrees, we browsed the grocery aisles: lots of excellent Afghani and Persian products: inexpensive and interesting spices, cookies, sweets, mixes, etc. And high quality halal meats.
Must try. Love the test
Small shop but has some nice middle-eastern options, a cafe for home made goodies, sweets, unique fare and local produce.
Their fresh meat is really good. Not the chicken though, smells old. I go only for meat, other things are overpriced.
Very old goat meat.Much disappointed.
Always good.
Best quality tender meat available here
Food is decent, a bit salty for my taste (my family thinks I eat too much salt, so imagine that). Has selection of Halal meats.
We had great food and good service!
Fresh products.
Good for Goat/Lamb/Chicken meat..I like the food as well..
Lack of employees and services nothing is better even the food is not fresh plus everything is bad and dirty hope they improve and make good service and food for their customers they seem to be reckless they don’t care about their customers which is not really good customer service is first and also being clean is extremely important for a restaurant you should wait more than 20 minutes to get service actually I am not recommend anyone to go there waste his or her time in this restaurant which is really not worth it after when they serve you they don’t know what they should bring to you with your food like spoons, forks and Tissue papers intact they are not professional about their restaurant long story short it’s the worst place to be there
Great food
Afghani food or Persian or Indian food? This is a mom and pop grocery store with an attached diner that caters to mostly people who want Afghani or Persian food. The buffet only on Friday and Saturday noon to 2:30 pm usually a chicken curry drumsticks only and a chicken biryani drumsticks only and lentil (dhal). They do occasionally have a beef gravy dish that does have a lot of oil and bones. Or even a lamb shank dish. These are all cooked Afghani style which tends to have a lot of oil. They have 2 salads and a dessert. They do have kebabs on the menu if you prefer a more healthy meal. There prices are between $9 - $ 15 for a majority of their dishes and they have many repeat customers. The goat and chicken biryani of the menu are usually very popular. The store is your typical small grocery store and does not compare with the big name chain stores. They pride them selves for providing Halal / Kosher food that is organic. They have a steady stream of people who want organic Halal meat and chicken and usually are glad to pay the premium price for organic Halal meats. Their baby goat or lamb meat is very popular and very tender. They sell sheep and goats meat as well.It is true that they are usually busy cooking or cutting meat and it is necessary to wait at the checkout for someone to check you out. In order to keep their prices under control they (the family) is the cashier and cook and butcher. They are growing from the time they started about 2 years ago. They are a welcome addition to the neighborhood and try their best to cater to the needs of the community with a smile. They do have plenty of parking and are easily accessible even with a wheelchair. They have a large selection of middle eastern sweets and grocery items which is good as there are almost no one else in the area that sells these items. Have been a regular customer of this store for since they opened. This is not a paid review as I review many places all around the world when I travel.Remember to enter your phone number when ordering food at the diner to get 1,2,3,4 dollars of your meal and the 10th meal is free.
Good place friendly staff, you can get fresh meat but you have to be lucky. Else its not fresh
Good for Middle Eastern ingredients.
