Very Austiny, I love the vibe of this funky place. Great patio with lots of tree shade, very pleasant atmosphere and good music to work with. The coffee is good and they have baked goods at reasonable prices. No indoor seating for now and few plugs outside, but you can borrow apower strip from them. The patio is really really nice on a nice day. And it’s perfect for Halloween! (it’s right by a cemetery:)

Was worried about the customer service after reading a few of the reviews, so I will say that clearly those employees do not work there anymore. Employee was super patient, memorized our entire order, was quick and kind. Will definitely be back!! And with our pup, as the patio is pet friendly.

Couldnt be happier, on a cold day, with the service provided by Chris Orta (pictured). Although the dining room is closed, COVID-19 reasons, it didnt stop Chris from sharing her knowledge about her love of coffee. I left with facts to share and an outstanding Macchiato brew to review.

This is my second visit and I was very impressed. Varied menu. Spacious patio with plenty of seating whether youre studying solo or meeting friends. I appreciated their safety precautions for guests and staff. Trey who took my order was friendly and knowledgeable and made my experience a pleasant one. Will definitely come back.

Love this place! It’s very affordable and the atmosphere is phenomenal. Trey was very helpful when I bought my beans (for my toddy) and pro tip, there’s a loyalty/stamp card that fills up pretty quickly and rewards you with a free drink!! Only thing I suggest for Wake the Dead, respectfully, is to add more lighting. After it gets dark, I have trouble seeing my books when I’m studying, but it’s honestly not too important because the service and variety of beverages and snacks out weigh that small inconvenience.

I love Wake the Dead. Staff is amazing and down to earth, and the patio is great for work or studying. Their Turkey on Sourdough is the BEST!!!

If I could give zero stars, I would. The coffee is below par and the service is TERRIBLE. The most disgusting and rude attitudes of anywhere I’ve ever been. They are degrading, mock their customers and have no remorse afterwords. Their character more than shines through and not in a good way! Very disappointed with the way paying customers are treated. I would NOT recommend wasting your money!

It has always been amazing. Even being in the patio was okay. However, it needs to be mention there are two restrooms that are not allowed to customers. The only available restroom is in the gas station next door which is very inconvenient. It isnt nice to your customers that you invite to come in and seat since they have made a purchase, but you are not permitting them to use the restroom.Why not have customers use masks and sanitizer before going indoor ONLY to use the facility and assuming they wash hands afterwards. One restroom can be for customers and the other for the employees only or you need to install an portable outhouse.This was an amazing place that we couldnt wait to show off since it was different, but not now because we feel unwelcome.

Best Chai with oatmilk ANYWHERE

So San Martian, with the BEST nova lox and cream cheese bagel I’ve ever tasted! The bagel was perfectly toasted, a light crispy crunch on the outside and fresh soft dough inside. Served open face, with two mounds of lox on fluffy cream cheese, tomatoes and capers (I passed on the red onion). Each side could have been a meal by itself, but so good I ate the whole thing. They sell coffee beans as well. My husband says that Jumping Mouse is the best! Definitely going back again!

Never feel more at home than when Im here. I dont live in San Marcos anymore unfortunately, but when Im town, I ALWAYS stop by. Theres no other coffee shop like this one -- Ive looked, extensively, but none compare. From the art to the music, to the great selection of drinks and goodies...everything is just pristine. From the first time I heard about awake the Dead to every visit I’ve had it has been wonderful. Haven’t had coffee -yet, but tea and bagel with Lox has been excellent every time. Staff has always been super kind and friendly and the atmosphere is laid back.

This is the best coffee shop on Earth. The service is fantastic, the drinks are yummy and they have tacos in the morning. You can get a sandwich or soup or cookies or muffins -all so good. There is art on the walls done by local artists. There is a beautiful outdoor area and several rooms to study or chat in. I go here twice a week or more I love it so much. Highly recommended. I usually get tea or smoothy. Peach pear apricot is so tasty. Maybe Ill see you there.

One of the best coffee shops in San Marcos. You can smoke in the courtyard, so if you are like me, and smoke while you work, this is a great place to get coffee and a cig while you stress about college.

I love the outdoor patio! Covered tables, nice plants and decorations... bit in the winter it gets a little chilly. So, either plan to stay inside, or bundle up and grab one of their delicious brewed coffees and head to the patio!

Staple coffee house in San Marcos. Try the iced toddy. Stay on Mondays for their movie nights, they usually have a good selection and the people who attend make the experience pleasant and worth while. This places works at cultivating a space for artists and creators to express themselves via comedy, poetry, film, or painting. Definitely check it out if you want to get a local vibe of the city.

This is a great community hub. It attracts mostly the college crowd, but Ive seen folks of all ages here. They have coffee, beer, and wine, as well as tacos and soups sometimes. They always have lovely baked goods and artwork from local artists. They are always having events here as well - its a great spot to stop by if youre bored and have a little time to kill, or if you have a lot of time to spend and no plans made. Or plan on visiting regularly - its a great, weird place and I love it.

Great coffee, great atmosphere, and a chill place to do homework. Usually some good music playing too. The staff are super friendly -- you can tell they enjoy being there and interacting with the people coming in. The owner is an awesome lady! The live music shows are fun too, although sometimes the crowd can be a little rambunctious depending on whos playing. I love the outside fire in the winter too, super cozy with hot cocoa and someone youre sweet on.

DO NOT GO HERE! The employees are super rude. We went in and sat down first due to the lines being long, as my friend is in line to order her coffee the owner came up to us and said we needed to leave if we werent going to buy anything. Then we decided to leave due to how rude she was to us. Walking out of the door she said Oh there they go Bye. Then, as we were in our car leaving the owner and another lady went out to the drive way and rudely waved at us. Our intent was to just buy coffee and work on homework but my two friends and I were treated horribly and will never be getting anything from this place again.

This is hands down one of the BEST coffee shops in San Marcos. The people that work their are always friendly and inviting.The reason that I deducted a star is that they have had an influx in people that go to Wake the Dead over the past few years and their seating is not growing. If you are a student, you need to get there super early in order to find adequate seating.

I went in last night on the 18th of June with two friends, and I have never had a better coffee house experience that I can honestly remember. This place is always charming, cozy, and fun because of it’s atmosphere, and the staff are always quick, efficient, and warm and friendly. Last night was exceptional, and the two ladies serving were great. It was outstanding.

The barista who helped me today was wonderful. I wish had gotten her name. Great, varying menu, the perfect, relaxing atmosphere, etc. I love how involved they are in the San Marcos community, though. Thats a big part of why theyre so great. Great place to relax and meet people.

FAVORITE of all my coffee shops in the area! Not just because of the amazing goth/artsy decor, but also the flavor of their coffee, its always made perfectly. Service is always fast, there are nice handmade gifts to buy, a cozy outdoor seating area, and plenty of places to sit inside. Good kolaches! Usually they have a gluten-free treat as well, though all their baked goods are a bit pricey. I really enjoy the atmosphere!

Pretty cool place. Grungy. Better selection of beer than coffee, which I was pleasantly surprised by (coffee is still good though). They have a beautiful patio... And people smoking at every table. If Im visiting somewhere to go drinking, this is perfectly acceptable and I may indulge every while, but it became only slightly annoying while Im trying to sip coffee and focus on school work, as the tables are spaced well enough apart. No complaints from the actual establishment though. The epitome of keep Austin weird.

Ive enjoyed going to this coffeehouse for almost 10 years. The skeletal mascot and whimsical ambiance are charming, the outdoor courtyard is lovely, and the staff are always so friendly and happy to make thoughtful menu recommendations for the undecided. I encourage everyone to try their iced toddy; the best local cold brew available in my opinion. The cupcakes with rich and creative flavors are also another guilty pleasure!They host live music and local art regularly, as well as holding themed nights for writing, movie watch parties, and more. Now that theyve expanded their parking lot, its much easier to swing by in the mornings or on a lunchbreak. Definitely check them out!

The atmosphere here is crazy chill. Theres always a bunch of nice people to meet, the coffee is always brewing and always delicious, you can even grab a bite to eat
