My recent experience at the Eye Care Institute was excellent. It is difficult to get a decent prescription especially for my right eye because I have had both RK and cataract surgery. If you have had this combination, you know what I mean. The technician (I believe her name is Jessica) was very patient and took the time necessary to get the proper prescription. My first visit to this provider. Staff was friendly and efficient. The doctor was professional and explained the status of my vision. I needed new glasses and the optician was helpful in selection of glasses.I was referred to Dr Ni because she specializes in the care of my specific vision issues.

They were very pleasant, and everyone seemed to have a great attitude, and was helpful. My issue unfortunately required that I see the eye surgeon who is apparently only there once a month, so I will see him next month and hopefully he will be able to take care of my issue easily.

I had a cataract. I had no vision beyond a few inches from my face. Dr. Rich at The Eye Care Institute performed surgery. My vision improved immediately. I had no pain, no unpleasant after effects of surgery. After a couple of weeks, I underwent an eye exam for new glasses. Thats my story.

I visited the eye care on 06/21/2021 at 2:30 PM to check my eye vision.It was unpleasant, and unhappy visit. The situation leads me to conclude am I here to be challenged and investigated or to be treated equally get professionals service, it was ridiculous and a visit full of regrets . I totally understand nurse have to do what is required to do and patients have be polite and helpful, but what happened at my visit was on contrary, I was polite and helpful the nurse assigned to do the preliminary examination was rude and unprofessional. She drugged me to argument by asking me same question four times and I responded to her question clearly and specifically and the reason of my visit again and again. avoiding my response she tried to challenge me saying the reading glass what you have is good enough, I said to here this I am not here to argue but I am here to be examined and I am confused and asked her if she is the doctor and she said no I am not, and told here please and thank let me talk to the doctor which helped me to stay away from her questions and pushes which they are out of order, unpolite, unprofessional and disrespectfulI would like to advice her to be polite, and treat everyone equally with same tone.I would like to thank the the young girl on the front desk for being polite and respectful. Following a botched cataract surgery causing chronic complications, I was referred to Eye Care Institute by my retina specialist. It was my lucky day when Dr. Rich accepted my case! Four previous doctors over a year’s period had been unable to diagnose my condition – Dr. Rich took one look at my eye and immediately diagnosed it. He presented a solution that would alleviate my symptoms and has been nothing but honest, optimistic and supportive during my journey. Dr. Rich referred me to UCSF for a second opinion, which confirmed his diagnosis and treatment plan 100%. Everyone at Eye Care Institute has been wonderful to work with and able to accommodate several emergency visits. There are more convenient ophthalmology practices to where I live but I wouldn’t go to anyone else but to Dr. Rich – he’s an exceptional physician and human being.

I woke up with a eye scratch that was hurting and was able to be seen by the early afternoon, which was unbelievable. They squeezed me inand I was seen by a Dr. Rich, who was wonderful. You cannot give me a reason for demanding my medical history for a simple eye exam. This is just garbage. And, dont contact me again.

My laser eye surgery with Dr. Rich went well. My eyesight is much better. The intake person, nurse, and Dr. Rich were very personable and efficient. It was a good experience and I would highly recommend ECI to anyone.

I waited 45 minutes beyond my appointment time in waiting room, and 35 minutes for doctor after nurse did the basics. Not a word of apology anywhere. Im under the delusion my time as valuable as doctors. Doctor herself ok, I suppose. As impersonal with me as if she were a grocery checker checking out a broccoli. What an awful experience all around. Brings out the worst in our society.

I had a regular eye exam with dilatation with Dr. Shah in Feb. at the 4nd St. office. Everything when smoothly from check in thru the exam and consultation with Dr. Shah. The support staff that did the initial vision exam for a prescription were friendly and competent. Dr. Shah did the inner eye health exam and reviewed the prescription. I felt I was receiving excellent care. Parking in the Barns & Noble lot.

I got metal in my eye and they took the best care of me. I Squirm anytime anything comes close to my eye and they totally relax me to the point I was ok with them poking stuff in my eye. I was so worried about my eye sight and it’s totally fine now. Thank you so much. I definitely recommend.

Very unhappy with the quality of care here. Been a patient for 2 years, and cant get a call back after leaving at least 3 messages about an rx my insurance wont cover, until I try something else first. Moving on....

I started with IOL cataract surgery with Dr. Lillian Yang of ECI, perfect job, wonderful job. Then I wanted to change the distance in one eye and did LASIK surgery with Dr. Daniel Rich also of ECI, and also a perfect, wonderful job. These are BOARD CERTIFIED experts in their field and they know their stuff, big time! And they are nice and you can pay more elsewhere, believe it or not! This is the place!

Dr Alsamarae is the best eye doc I ever had in my 72 years. Highly skilled and great experience, plus she is very nice, explains things VERY well so we laymen can understand, and LISTENS to what we say with respect. She is a TEN. also ECI did cataract surgery on both my eyes and I give them an AAAAA+++ rating! they even talked me into an option that was $1,000 per eye LESS than what I requested. The Eye care Institute staff are very friendly and polite. If youre looking for a team to take care of your vision needs then Eye Care Institute is the place.

This office has not gone paperless. Every appointment requires at least 6 pages of paperwork to be completed. No option to complete it electronically & a big hassle every visit.

Gets busy but the doctors work hard and work properly.

I have been a patient of Dr Daniel Rich for well over 20 years. He is a fabulous ophthalmologist. His doctor-patient interactions are comfortable. He is affable and friendly. He is also no-nonsense i.e. straight to the point. He has completely my bilateral cataract surgeries both of which went very smoothly. I strongly recommend Dr. Rich.

Dr Rich is awesome. I was totally blind in one eye for almost 2 years. In 10 minutes time he gave me 20/20 vision again. Great Dr, very nice guy, and The Eye Institute is incredible.

My 2 year old son has a physical disability affecting muscle function and was referred here for a wandering eye. My husband was the one who brought him in. The entire experience was really disappointing and unprofessional, not to mention a complete waste of money. After waiting for 30 minutes in the room (not an easy task with a fussy 2 yr old) the doctor walked passed the door in civilian clothes with a gigantic STARBUCKS in her hand and said sorry she was late. Apparently she had time to run to starbucks, despite being 30 minutes late to work. If the story stopped here then it might have been excusable. Unprofessional, but exusable, as stuff happens. But after she changed into her work clothes, they didnt even get a thorough visit. The entire thing took 10 minutes. Her solution was to pull up an app on her phone, say Oops I deleted it, hang on let me go to the app store and redownload it. She then had my son look at it for a minute before telling us its probably nothing to worry about. My husband had to wait for another 10-15 minutes in the reception area while they checked a biling code, then footed us with a $117 bill. Thats after insurance. I dont mind paying professionals for an expert opinion. But this was inexusable on every level. Especially during the pandemic when funds are tight.

I have been a patient of Dr. Rich for probably about 20 years. He has provided me with excellent vision care including cataract surgery. Besides his skills, I particularly appreciate the fact that he explains everything clearly in language that I can understand. He is always very pleasant while being highly efficient and I never feel rushed. My husband is his patient also and seconds my evaluation.

I found Eye Care Institute to have a careing staff. They made me feel comfortable and took really great care of me. They handle emergencies great and quickly 24/7. My surgeries went smoothly and my concerns were addressed quickly. I would recommend ECI to anyone having eye care surgery needs. I just wish I could get all my eye care there and not have to go back to my regular eye doctor for the new glasses. My surgeon was and if need be in the future Dr. Lillian Yang.

I felt the exam was very thorough and was happy that I went to the Eye Care Institute. I will go back. They were very respectful of your time. I was in and out in under and hour.

On May 26, 2020, I called this firm to schedule an appt for my wife who was having a left eye problem where she could not see with clarity. I explained to the woman that my wife has Kaiser, and has already had her maximum one eye exam, and we are now a cash purchaser. The woman stated the cost would be $150 to $200.00. With that info, I brought my wife onto the conference call and booked an appt for May 28, 2020. A doctor examined my wifes eyes, dilated her eyes, and did not use the Phoropter to measure her visual component (no prescription). This exam was worth $150.00. My wife arrived at the check out desk after the exam and was told $279.00. My wife was not thinking clearly, could not see well with her eyes fully dilated and was confused by this fee. She was handed a receipt, and she asked for an itemized bill, and the office refused to provide this to her. She arrived at our car in the parking lot, and I am immediately contested this this bill, explaining that I was told $150 to $200. They would not give me an itemized bill either after requesting it. I was told that a Manager would contact me that day and waited in the parking to with a hope of immediate resolution. Arianna explained that she would contact me the next day, May 29, 2020. At 4 pm, on May 29th, with no phone call, I called her. I was told that she went into a meeting (conveniently) and was unavailable. I called again on Monday, and she called me. She explained that her meeting went until 6 pm. I shared Why didnt you call me before your meeting, as you had all day, or after your meeting at 6 pm. Why are you avoiding me. We went round and round and I explained to her that I was in a customer service field as a Firefighter/Engineer for the city of Santa Rosa (retired) and I am in another customer service field as a Mortgage Lender and this level of service is poor.I further explained that the bait and switch of charging $279 when I was told $150 to $200 was unacceptable. Further, I shared that the person who booked the appt was the one that told me the cost. She said she asked that person and she is denying that she told me this. I explained that your company now has bigger problems because this person is not truthful. I requested a conference call with Arianna (manger) and the woman who booked out appt so I could recount and recap what was said. Arianna refused. The eye exam was not complete, only main components of the exam were completed. I told Arianna this was worth $150. We settled at $200.00. I am disappointed of their level of customer service, the fact that a team member would fib and call a customer untruthful (presumably) and that this was mishandled. I requested a detailed (itemized) bill, and have yet to receive one. They sent another receipt. I did receive $79 check refund, so my bill is not $200.00. I will never return to this company based on the events that took place and the challenges I faced in their honesty, truthfulness and lacking of service to resolve.

If you have cataracts with astigmatism, and you have surgery and you do it here your life will change and it will be amazing you will be able to see again, I can’t say enough about how fantastic the entire practice is!My doctor, Dr. Lillian Yang is awesome.

Although I was disappointed that my eyes were really not suitable for LASIK, I was very pleased that Dr. Abramson informed me of this fact, explained why this was so and what the dangers would have been had I proceeded. I am sure that this level of professionalism would not have been exhibited at all other places where LASIK is available. I am very pleased, therefore, that I chose the Eye Care Institute.

Staff and doctors at 2nd street are great . I would give a five but, but the appointments have a long wait time not sure way. I guess because they are so busy.

Mr Abramson and the young lady who started the exam were a good experience, both personable and knew the job well.Eyeware department was under staffed. I waited 15 minutes then left and went to Pennys where I got 2 pair of glasses for $120 with VPS insurance.

I was very pleased by the service I got here. The doctor was kind and considerate, and the staff was great. They were clearly very busy (and now I know why) but I didnt feel rushed. The only problem seemed to be that they were a little behind (20 minutes) because they were short staffed. (or so I was told)

I have been to the eye care institute three times. The front desk staff are very friendly and helpful. Overtime I have scheduled it takes a couple of months to get an appointment and they do not have a waiting list. When I come in for appointments I have been waiting for the doctor for a minimum of 1/2 hour and sometimes longer. The staff that performs the tests have always been extremely helpful and kind. When I met with Dr. Wong she did not even look at me while speaking to me until she began to look at my eye. She gives me instructions without checking to see what my response is to her decision. I have decided to look for eye care from a practice who respects my time and treats me like a person rather than a specimen.Just for the record I have heard Dr. Barth is an amazing doctor, but that his practice is currently closed to new patients.

Dr.Abramson was great at my appointment this week. He listens, care and was open to my input. The entire experience was fantastic, I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for an eye dx.

Dr. Abramson always takes great care of me and my patients. I’m a local Pediatrician and he’s my first referral whenever I have any vision concerns about my patients.

They made wonderful glasses for me but when I called to ask to get a copy of my last order they said they only keep patient records for a short time. That is so strange!!!! Data these days costs almost nothing and they just toss customer records in the junk instead of keeping on file for the next purchase.

It is a wonderful eye institute . Dr. shah is great!!!! Also her helper was great also.!!!!

I was recently sent to Memorial Emergency room by an urgent care facility for a completely dilated, non reactive pupil. Upon arrival I was immediately sent to the Dr. Rich at the Eye Care Institute. The front desk staff and assistant that did my initial exam were excellent. Dr. Rich spent a total of five minutes with me. He was dismissive, spoke over me, and continually interrupted me. He didnt answer a single question I had. When my primary doctor followed up with him regarding his diagnosis, he interrupted her, spoke over her and in her words insulted my intelligence and abilities as a doctor. I canceled my follow up appointment with Dr. Rich and wont be returning.

I rarely take the time to write reviews of businesses but I have had such poor service at this place I feel I have to. I bought an extremely expensive pair of Kawasaki glasses which have continued to have problems (i.e., fall apart at temples or nose; they dont have screws, but connectors are not secured well at ALL). I have to go back and have them readjusted all the time. Though staff always try to fix them (it doesnt last long before they are loose/crooked again), the fact that no one has ever offered to allow me to return this $500 pair of glasses or apologized that they are so poorly made really bothers me.Added to annoyance is the fact that parking is a major pain (they share a lot with Barnes and Noble/Starbucks). Though eye exam was very good, I wont be a returning customer because customer service is not up to par for the money.

I would give Dr. Abramson no stars if possible! Bruce Abramson misdiagnosed me and as a result I had to undergo major eye surgery to prevent TOTAL Blindness!!! He RUSHED through the Exam and completely missed it even though it was obvious. My eye is permanently damaged as a result of his misdiagnosis and my eyesight will never be the same.He has NEVER apologized for what he did to me...what made this whole nightmare even worse was my husband was dying while I was recovering from this Major surgery and that made the little time I had left with him compromised.

My wife had a very poor experience. She had a very bad eye infection, glued shut each morning, itchy and very red. Dr. Wong saw her for 5 minutes, scratched inside her eye with a metal instrument, told her she didnt have an infection, and that she could either wait and see if the stye went away or come back for surgery. My wife came home with her eye much worse after the scratching, with no solution to her problem. Would never go back or recommend this doctor to anyone.

My recent cataract surgery at ECI was one of the best health care experiences Ive had. My surgery was elective, since my cataracts were not very advanced, but I wanted to have lens replacement to reduce my reliance on glasses. The result of the surgery is that Im now totally free of glasses, even for reading. Dr. Barth, my surgeon, is a kind, compassionate, and attentive doctor. He even called me in the evening after my surgery to see how I was doing. The staff that I interacted with at ECI, including office personnel, medical technicians, and nurses, were all competent, caring, and efficient professionals. Thanks, Dr. Barth and staff at ECI.
