Good luck talking to a person. Tried to just ask to talk to my sales rep and the woman on the phone rudely said we dont do that here and immediately transferred me back to the automated system. Customer service cant answer even basic questions. Zero communication on anything.

The appraisal process was straightforward and relatively quick. I received a quote MUCH higher than expected so I was pleasantly surprised.When it came time to turn in my car for a check, the resulting paperwork took much longer than expected. But overall, I believe it was an easy experience compared to selling my car privately. Would definitely consider CarMax again for selling a car.
Large, clean dealership. Well organized. We went to sell a Jeep Wrangler and their appraisal was way above the appraisal I got from Carvana. We proceeded with the sale. The business office handled it well and all were courteous. It took twice as long as the 45 minute wait time they told us it would be to process everything but for what they paid for the Jeep really can’t complain.
It was absolutely great love the fact that i wasnt pressured in buying a car and was shown many different options. The sales Consultant Gary Knapp was the best he made sure i was completely satisfied with the purchase and took care of the minor car problem immediately before making the sale. He is the true meaning of outstanding customer service.
By far the worst experience purchasing a vehicle. First, they crashed our car while washing the day of buying. Then they couldn’t fix it right away, so we had to take two days off of work to accommodate their service hours. After the repair we picked up the car, to find out there was something wrong with the engine. Good thing we noticed the white smoke when turning on the vehicle one morning. So, we get a call from a manager, apparently, asking us to return his call to talk about getting a different vehicle. Well, we tried calling 6 or 7 times with no luck, and no returned phone call. You would think they would want to make things right with a buyer. Finally, we come back to the dealer on a Monday morning (another vacation day) to discuss a refund and part ways. Well, over three hours later, we’re still waiting to get our money back and attempt purchasing a vehicle elsewhere. To be clear, the engine issue might not have been something carmax could’ve known about but, their lack of attention and care for a customer is unacceptable. What a waste of time, effort and money.

I got 8000.00 more for my 2018 Subaru crostrek than offer given from caravana but took a total about 7 hours to get it done. Now part was my fault because I went on a Saturday and then a came back on a Tuesday to finish. Then on Saturday they said they would have it all ready to when I came back, but when I did, they couldnt find anything on my car it took a long time, how Im not sure, but in the end when they found it, they came out to the chair for me to finish it of and gave me the bank draft. So even though took so long to get it done they were very nice the whole time and they gave me a great deal on my car that I still owed a lot on. IN THE END CARMAX IS THE BEST PLACE TO SELL OR BUY A VEHICLE!!!!!!!
Ima busy guys but the service and smiles you can never get enough of even if the skill set and computer knowledge varies and is not the same from rep to rep. They all seem to have their own flow rather a set in totality 1-12 to cover all . They have the big 5 trust me they have to read certain things etc. But you can tell each store trains differently and each sale person applies a certain level its very noticeable to someone who shops a lot of cars and alot of specific units and will just show up well because its allowed you might wait with out an appointment but its worth it! Go Team Carmax Midnight Mini Sales supports this message!! This is solely based on observations as a customer . I HAVE HUGE ISSUE IN AREAS not to take away from the over all experience you receive here! Check yelp I suppose for that ..
I visited this location recently to sell my 2020 Subaru Crosstrek. I had some technical difficulties with my online appraisal, but Tom (Sales Manager) could not have been more understanding, respectful, or communicative. I intended to sell my car at CarMax for the ease and speed, and Tom exemplified everything I was looking for from this experience. I would highly recommend this location to anyone looking for the same.

I never bought a car at CarMax, yet they continue to email me to track a car delivery, about payments and now for a review - even after TWO promises that my information was out of their sytsemSo, heres your review - REMOVE MY INFORMATION and others beware - CarMax somehow has tied my Personal Information to the purchase of a vehicle by someone else and CANT or WONt remove my info.
They sold me a lemon. I was taking my grandchildren out of town when the engine light turned on and the car started shaking. I immediately called CarMax. I was told to have my car towed to a dealership in town. I was asked to front the cost of towing and renting. A manager said he would reimburse me but got angry when I asked to put the towing and rental reimbursement in writing. Now several days later..I have no car.CarMax said they have a replacement car. Now how do I get it ??? I must somehow travel 2 hours to retrieve. Imagine the fear of having no reliable car and being asked to front the cash to solve a problem you couldnt imagine even dealing with. If I want my money back, I have to wait for almost two weeks without a vehicle and compounded expense of a rented vehicle. Leaving people without a car and with a large expense that will theoretically be reimbursed is simply terrible customer service. Im trying desperately to pick up a replacement car but Im being told it takes a week to clean and inspect. The week would put me over the 30 days do they world force me into this lemon.
I got the price quoted online from CarMax but it took more than 4 hours to get full process done and they keep saying extra 15-20 min each time i asked. Overall, they pay more than dealer or private sale so happy with my sell but just make sure you have few extra hours to go and make the whole process.
This was by far the easiest, hassle free experience we’ve experienced with car dealers. We sold our car and Tim was professional, courteous and no nonsense representative. We got our check and sale of car processing within 2 hours with no issues whatsoever!! This place is awesome and stress free!!! Highly recommend them for sale of vehicle!!!
Worst experience ever. I payed for a car to be transferred from another state. I bought and traded a car on April 10. After 6 days and less than 100 miles on the car the check engine light came on (p0300 misfire). I dropped the car off at the service center. No loaner was offered to me until a week later and a lot of money spent on Uber rides. After 2 weeks I received the car back from service. Then 5 days later the check engine light came back on, called service and they tell me that they can look at the car in a week. I returned the car a day after and was told I will receive the check withing 3 weeks.I received part of the refund a week later. After 3 weeks later I call asking where the rest is. Turns out they were supposed to print out the equity draft check the same day I returned the car. They profited really well off my trade in and in return I got car with problems because it wasnt inspected well, bad customer service, and almost 2 months of my time wasted.
Carmax was pretty good to work with, Mary was great she took her time to do her best to help me and my wife find something that would help us in our situation.Unfortunately the team that did the appraisal came back very far from what we would expect for a car a few years old, and was very disappointed the marked dings/damage in a quarter panel that was not there.As for the price I know of people that got more then they expected, but I did not so...I wouldnt suggest anyone not give them a try based off my review just make sure you will be happy with whatever you decide.
Just experienced some the worst customer service I have ever encountered with the business office at Car Max in Schaumburg. Had an issue with trying to get a duplicate title for a car I am trying to sell to them and the arrogant way in which we were dismissed vs. trying to help us solve the issue was disappointing. We are also planning to purchase a car from CarMax in another state but after the experienced today not so sure we will. I understand what we are trying to do may not be possible but at least try to help and be polite to customers.
I had such a good experience from shopping online, making appointment for test drive to the final paperwork as we did buy the vehicle and recommend anyone to experience Carmax
Pretty bad out here. Three people up front and not one said hi when we this evening. Not one came to see how we were doing. When we were leaving, the guy up front starred right at us and didn’t even say goodbye. Isn’t that was he was hired to do? Went across the street to Lexus. Way better experience, check it out.
Processing was fast and counter agents were courteous. I was able to sell my SUV and was satisfied with the payment.
Plan ahead, make appointments, be ready to compromise. Everyone there was super nice. Our agent had a great sense of humor and walked us through every part of the sale. Dont forget to plan a whole day for this, and a nap afterward. Bring water. Maybe a snack. We started on line and that made the trip perfect.
Vehicle prices are very high. I will admit they have a great selection and their vehicles are in nearly mint condition. But you will pay very high retail to get it.
Steve and Nick from the business office are super rude and don’t know how to talk to customers. CARMAX needs to train these individuals how to respect the people that are trying to give them business. I’ve never felt so disrespected in a dealership like this before. I will never bring business to this place again.
Its nice to check out the variety of vehicles, but we waited for 35 minutes on the waiting list and nobody ever followed up to help us. There werent even that many customers around. There seemed to be several employees wandering around so maybe they just arent being managed well.
I am continually surprised at how smooth and easy CarMax makes the whole researching and car buying experience!

I love my new car from CarMax, and all of the service people were very friendly and helpful. I liked that they handle everything- registration, etc. However I do have a few complaints: first, everything took a very long time to do. I understand they are busy so it’s not a huge deal for me but people should be forewarned. I waited almost two hours to sell my old car- after the appraisal. Second, I had the car for only four days when the battery died, and their roadside assistance was so difficult I used AAA instead. I then had to wait another day for a new battery. They really should install a new battery if it is old, even if the car starts. About 15 years ago I bought a car from CarMax and had no problems at all.
Great service, but make sure you book an appointment beforehand! Answered all questions asked and they make it easy to look for a car and purchase.

This location has the worst communication Ive ever experienced. From scheduling me to come in and pick up a car instead of delivering it to telling me my partner doesnt have to be there, to refusing to release the car when they arrived. To top that off, he agreed to come and sign, but they wouldnt wait the 40 minutes for his arrival. Then when I spoke with a manager I was informed that what I had to say wasnt even relevant. Worst customer service I have ever had. If I treated my customers that way, my company would fire me.
Our car was valued at $11,700 online and we asked their staff to give us better price since our well maintained 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sports was only 67,700 miles, no dent, very clean, no paint chip, and all features worked perfectly, plus we badly needed the money immediately. CarMax paid us only $11,400. According to their staff, my husband made a mistake of indicating features that were not found in the car. But their staff could not point out what those features were. I kept on asking him and he would only show me the list of features checked by their service people. He could not tell me the features listed online by mistake. We ended up selling them the car due to our urgent need. In my opinion CarMax TOOK ADVANTAGE OF OUR FAMILYS SITUATION.

We recently visited this location and I wanted to share my experience. We live in Skokie but we like to visit this particular location for our car buying needs. Location is big, clean, very well organised. One of the most important things is that they have very big costumer parking space unlike Glencoe IL location. But the biggest reason we would definitely recommend this place is the sales who worked with us James LaPlume. Very knowledgeable not only what concerns the process of selling cars. But very knowledgeable about cars specifications. Very patient in process of choosing the car and applying for finance. He patiently listened to our needs and gave his personal suggestions making all the process going seamlessly. This location is very busy, but he was willing to spend as much as we need time to help us navigate the process of buying the car to make us completely satisfied with the experience. I arrived 15 minutes early for my appointment but they got me right in. After an inspection of my vehicle they gave me the price they had offered. The administrative part of the process takes awhile so we went to lunch. Everything went very nice.

While I found a car I was happy with, I spent five hours at Carmax, most of it just waiting. Even after I bought the car, I spent another 45 minutes waiting for someone from the Finance Office to finalize the loan documents.
Disorganized, like theyve never bought a car before.... I told the guy up front I already had an offer and was ready to sell, he directed me to the business office. Wait in that line for 20 min. Get there, they tell me they cant look up their own offer, I have to have it printed out. Have to go to some dude the other direction they vaguely point in. All those dudes are on the phone. Back to front desk. He makes me an appointment with sales guy so I can get the offer printed. Wait a few. Sales guy is confused, have to explain for the 3rd time I have an offer and am trying to sell, he points me back to the business office, keep explaining I was just there. Finally he can print the offer. Better run because theyre closing soon. Back to the line. Finally get there and proceed. Now they tell me I should have parked in the service bay already. Changes her mind 3 times about how to leave the keys when I bring it around. Now I still get to go home and come back in 2 hours when the paperwork is ready to sign. What a mess.
I wanted to buy a used car that was not made anymore- a Honda Civic Coupe. I also wanted a specific trim level- LX because I am an old man and did not want to be saddled with a push button start or Honda Sensing, both which are just too different to what I was used to. I was able to find the car I wanted online, and after deciding what I wanted- which was the hardest part of the process- which actually did not involve Carmax except for their fun web site. Carmax took it from there and made the process painless. I never bought a used car before, but since the car was only 4 years old I could not tell that it was not new even thought it had 35,000 miles on it. I was overly cautious perhaps, as i bought the new car before selling the old car- which I was very reluctant to part with. Carmax bought the 1995 Mustang and gave me much more than I expected for it. Now the old car is gone and I have a new one. It may have taken longer than I expected but I am a very happy customer.

5 stars all day long..I had the privilege to have Rich as my sales person, that guy was amazing!!We went to go check out a jeep compass he got It for me and my wife we test drove it (but before we left we asked him about a tucson). The compass wasnt for us, by the time we got back with the jeep he already had the tucson ready to drive. Mind you we went to Indianapolis to go some cars and everytime we wanted to drive one we had to do the paper work all over again. So we drove the tucson and my wife liked it better than the jeep so we went ahead and started paper work..after couple hrs making sure all paper work was done and correct we drove off with the 2018 tucson SEL we are very happy costumer..I see good thing coming for Rich in the future costumer service at its finest 100/100..
I was selling my sister car. She had passed away in December so it was a little complicated. Everyone was so nice to me offering sympathy and kindness. They were very efficient and moved my selling of the car very quickly. Sales manager, Ashley the two appraisers were great. I had been dealing with Cynthia Vega over the phone and she was great! Checked to make sure what documents I needed to bring. Verified with her manager to make sure she told me everything I needed to know.
Agnes was great. She explained everything and helped us out perfectly. She was friendly and helpful to say the least.There was some miscommunication from the front desk though. They told us to wait by the car, but actually we were supposed to wait for a call and go to the drop off. I missed the call but didn’t know what I was supposed to do.

The staff and service was friendly and excellent. It was just the wait time from start to end that was tough. I had done the pre quote on line and figured it would have made the process faster.
NEVER EVER make the mistake of buying a car from CarMax. Bought a 19 4runner from them two weeks ago and the tire pressure light has been turning on since the third day. I would fill the tires, and a few days later the light would come back on. Finally, the third time I noticed it I was on the road and I got a flat tire. I put the spare on, took it in and they say it was something I ran over. They wanted to charge me $260 for it. I took it to a tire shop, they looked at the damaged tire and found a small hole that couldve been there for weeks. Any chance they get to not honor that warranty (btw, I also got their useless extended warranty), they will. Luckily, Its still within the 30 days and I can return the car. REPLY to carmax comment below: Thank you for the generic response that doesnt help me at all. I dont have any questions. The problem was you sold me a car with a faulty tire (advertised as new) and did not make it right. Terrible way to run a business. Especially when it happened within 14 days of purchasing the car.
I had a great experience during my visit. My salesman was very helpful and reassuring in the process of getting set up with my new car. He helped me understand my options for car maintenance, my financing steps, etc. The process was easy, and I left satisfied as a whole!
People from Schaumburg CarMax were very helpful and polite. They treated nice and they were also friendly. The only thing I didn’t like was the time that took to complete the documentation to buy the car. They need more personal.
Due to covid, it delayed a lot of the titles being transferred over, so it put a lot of vehicles on hold, so you cant test drive or purchase. Luckily we were able to find one to my wifes liking. Staff is great and very kind.
My boyfriend and I walked in and got seen and helped right away. Found the perfect car and left right away. They were very friendly and super helpful. Cant wait to go back for the next car....

It had a lot of hitches along the way. I ordered a car to be delivered and then was told it was gone to auction. Then later I was told the stock number was messed up and it was still on the lot, three days later. Also they kept switching my financing from 36 months to 72 months. The people did their best to keep straightening things out along the way but somehow the system itself seems to need some work. I give five stars to the price for the car and five stars to the people I talked to trying to correct the errors along the way. The headaches of having to constantly help correct errors I give one stars. It should not be my job to do the extra work. It should be done for me. Chuck Howard
Worst experience of my life, I covered every base I could pre-appointment even verified down payment amounts and the guy agreed. Said yes 12 14 & 24 after me telling him I only have the 1200 from the existing trade in. Worst experience wasted 4 hours there.Ralph (which they gave the wrong name tag to) his name is Rafael, he’s amazing. Loved talking to him. But he missed out on money because we both thought my bases were covered….. 
Buying the car was good. I have been communicating with the sales rep on an issue with the easy exit feature not working and have been waiting a service time. I am going to call service myself today to get some response
CarMax makes the process very easy! They valued my 2016 Jeep Wrangler for a great price and the staff is great . Very clean location . To get your car appraised start to finish is about an hour and ten minutes with appointment . It’s my first time here and I recommend using car max !

The sales manager PUAL is absolutely rude. He did not let me test drive a car while letting every other customer in the build do so. He was very rude to me and would not give any information to me, he was condescending and lied on the phone. He also put false notes on my account and told blatant lies to the corporate office to try to get me banned. Horrible horrible experience. I feel very discriminated against and would never let anyone go here again.

Sales were awsome, buying experiance was good, however assistance for other (warranty refund) was horrible, office team said they will contact naperville IL office to get me refund, which they never did and naperville carmax saids they are too busy to help their former customer. Car Max was $3K lower than the lowest offer I received from the other 3 places I went! What a joke! They have no idea how to value your car and just give you the lowest price there is! They don’t even tell you the blue book value, which is clearly done because their offer is wayy below that!!! Carvana blows them away!!!!

Im just sorry I never did this sooner. I just sold my Challenger. What a no nonsense, stress free, wonderful, refreshing experience. From the moment I walked in, I met Agnes, a very nice person. She was very professional, accommodating, and a pleasure to work with. Then I met Jacqueline, who appraised my car. She also a very nice person to work with. Very knowledgeable, professional, and easy communicating with her during appraisal. Overall, a fantastic experience. I have already recommended Carmax to all my family and friends.

I bought a 2016 Buick Encore last July. Only had 34,000 miles. Needless to say I have had nothing but problems. This place will not fix the problems. First problem was the breaks. I was told the emergency breaks sticking was normal. Now I have a grinding sound when I first start the car. I’m out of $500 nothing is fixed. Yes I bought the warranty. Now I’m being told a $1600 part is not covered. Have not had the car a year yet.

My appointment was at 1600, I did not leave until a little after 2300. The process took way too long for comfort, all of my documents for income was not accepted, I was never told to bring any additional information until I got there and I literally drove 3 hours to get there. The whole process was a total inconvenience to me and my family.

Easy way to sell my car. Better than dealing with the public coming to my house. The quote over the internet was solid. I took the car in, and after a 30 minute appraisal, I received the full amount of the internet quote.
I was a little skeptical at first because I had to redo the application and I was afraid I would not get approved again. But the process was simple and easy. I was out of there within 1 1/2 hours and that’s great. Car has been great so far. The transfer process was smooth as well. Thanks Eddy for being a good sales rep.
