I would share the full extent of my issues with this place, but I don’t want to spend my whole day typing. I’ll chalk it up to this: they were unprofessional, untimely and definitely a little dodgy. They kept my car for two weeks continuously giving me the run around without so much as fixing a thing. Turns out after I took it to another mechanic in town, the things they were going to charge me for didn’t need to be fixed in the first place! Don’t take your car here.

I didnt get any work done here, but the staff was courteous and provided good information.

I have used this shop multiple times and never an issue until now. The owners changed about 6 months ago so I am not sure if the mechanics are the same or not. Anyway, our 2006 Ford Explorer started having transmission issues so I had it towed to Aamco in South Charleston, WV. They said the transmission dipstick was broke and had to order one from Ford before they could check the fluid. They couldnt figure out the problem with it and said the mechanic drove it twice and it wouldnt duplicate the issue. This is, of course, a few days after we brought it in. It was supposed to be looked at the same day and I was told that I would get a call the next morning. This went on a few days with me having to call them for updates. So, they didnt find anything wrong with the transmission and said that it could be the WHEEL BEARING! Now, I usually work on my own vehicles but dont do internal engine and transmission work. It didnt have a bad wheel bearing when we dropped it off. So I decided to take it home and fix it myself. On the way home it definitely sounded and felt like a bad wheel bearing. Felt like it was completely out. Strange but okay. So we had it towed home. I took their word for it and ordered a new wheel bearing. The day before it came I went out to take off the old one (these can be a pain to get off). Much to my surprise, when I went to take off the first lug nut I about fell on my hind end. I jacked it up and took all 5 lug nuts off with my hands. Now I may need a new wheel bearing after all, or at least some lug bolts that got eaten up. Tightened them up and went for a ride. It sure does NOT need a wheel bearing. Im not sure if they thought I was going to have them put one on or if they were trying to scam me or what. I called and told them about it and was told that they would let them know. I fully expected more than that. This mistake cost us a lot of time, money (wasted a tow and used a LOT of gas driving our truck for 2 jobs) and unneeded stress on our other vehicle that was having issues and shouldnt have been driven until it got fixed. Very nice office staff, I will give them that.

These guys are absolute angels! I was broke down in the middle of nowhere, not knowing anyone to help and/or reliable. Clinton, the store owner, immediately got my truck in, diagnosed and repaired in 4 days!! Btw, that includes the day and a half to get the part. Mr. Willis, the courtesy supervisor, picked me up 15 miles away and gave me the utmost in customer service. From start to finish I was treated like family and Im from Las Vegas! My truck runs great and the warranty is impeccable. Many blessings to the whole staff.

Be very aware!!! The owner Clint has lied to us repeatedly! First when he told us that our car would be ready after a week and a half. They called us to come get it twice and both times it wasnt ready.( Its an hour and a half from our house), and it ended up taking 4 weeks and 2 days! When we got it back the steering wheel was turned halfway and all of my warning lights were on, but they said they had taken it for a long text drive. Some had to stay over an additional 2 hours to fix the problem. Then we immediately noticed that it was still shifting odd. My husband called and they told him that if we could find the problem and get it fixed, they would pay for it. The problem was that my knock sensor was hanging in the side. They had not reconnected it. This repair was 190.00 at a local shop. My husband took pictures and the receipt to them and they promised to mail us a check. Its been 2 months and we havent received it. My husband has called quite a few times and Clint was conviently not there. Once Clint called him back to say that he was definitely going to honor his word, but still has not! I will say that my transmission does seem to be repaired, but my car is running a lot louder now, and I truly worry about what else may have been left undone.UPDATE:Mr. Arnold has honored his word as of today. He gave my husband the 190.00 as promised. Thank You.

Where do I start.... I had a FULLY BUILT Dodge Dually with a blown transmission sitting in Charleston. Got my truck towed to their AAMCO location, and Clint personally kept me in the loop THE WHOLE TIME. VERY FAIR labor rates, inspection fees, and he took 100% care of me. Had buick regal transmission rebuilt and has been running like new ever since. Worked with extended warranty company for approvals and kept me out of the middle of the process. Would recommend for transmission repairs and engine repairs.

They told me my car would be fixed one day and had to wait a couple more days before they touched it. Then when I get my car back there was 4000 extra mile on my car. So don’t trust them at all.

Transmission leaked and never fixed multiple times, transmission went out and when I took It to another shop to fix it, they ignored the calls from their owe franchise. Also had the truck there for weeks when it was just a simple swap transmission. Bad shop don’t recommend.

I took a 2012 Ford Focus to them to repair a slipping transmission. After they inspected the car they informed me that my transmission was unrepairable because they couldn’t get parts. So they assured me that buying a used transmission was the way to go. The car was in good working condition other than the transmission that it was worth $3,500 to install a used transmission with a “ lifetime “ warranty. The manager told me after we install the transmission we might have to reprogram the computer and he would take it to ford and pay for it. Fast forward a month and a half while driving the car it just died all electrical just stopped. Hauled the car back to the shop and was told that a ground cable had melted and that should fix my issue. Two days after being told that I stopped by the shop because I didn’t he didn’t call and explain anything to me I was told that I should take it to ford they have no idea what happened. They were the only ones to work on this car. ..... they are a rip off ....

Ive had my transmission work done a year ago with satisfaction to date and had a new Jasper motor put in my truck last month also to my satisfaction both trans and motor are doing great and the guys were wonderful at keeping me upto speed on how the progress was coming at the install of motor I would highly recommend the use of aamco here in South Charleston I think u will also be satisfied.

My old car was never treated better. Courteous people, excellent service. Made an appointment, dropped my car off and was given a ride to work . Checked my car for State Inspection, called me to let me know what work was needed before doing anything. Let me know what the cost and repair time would be. The owner is friendly. The work was done well and quickly.They rescued me off the interstate when the owner was driving by and even gave me a ride to work.The only reason that Im not giving 5 stars is that the amount charged was almost double the estimate. I asked the lady who gave me the estimate and she claimed that that was just for the parts, but when I got the estimate that was not mentioned, and when I got the receipt the cost of parts did not match up with the cost I was given for the estimate. So go figure.So, my only suggestion is if you go there do not be afraid of the work, its top notch, the owner is a great guy.The service is great.However do not say yes to work after getting an estimate over the phone. Either get it in writing while you are there, or have them fax or email you an actual estimate so you have some documentation in case theres a difference.

Absolutely avoid this place. Had our car for 5 weeks. We were told it would take a week at maximum to have the work done.They will not return calls and their work was poor. We were told several times that it would be done, and then when we went to get it there was always some excuse as to why it wasnt done. When we finally picked up the car and popped the hood we found bolts left laying that we have no clue where they go, there was coolant spilled and puddled in crevices, the breather was not connected and the the clips that hold it was missing. They left oily hand prints all over the hood and the doors. The inside stuck of filth and our vehicle was ransacked inside. The dash had been gone through, our sunglasses were missing from the holder, CDs were taken and all the change in the holder was taken. Thats only the tio of the iceberg. PLEASE do your self a favor and use the dealer, unless you want the same to happen to you. AVOID THIS PLACE.

This place is where I went to get my transmission fixed in a older model jeep that I owned. The jeep shifted great after their professional work. I never had any other problems with the transmission after that. They were friendly and seemed like they cared.

I brought my last car there over and over for a year. They would claim they knew the issue and fixed it. I realize now that most of those problems were their fault! They would fix things that werent broken and break other things in the process. I had to get a new car because the cost of repairs ended up being too much after they were through with it. I got a new transmission (that I probably didnt need), new fuel pump (installed wrong so my fuel guage wasnt reading properly, ran out of gas when it showed full and had to get it towed to the shop - AAMCOs mechanics laughed at me like I just didnt know that cars needed gas and then didnt even fix it!), and tons of other repairs, only for my car to be ruined at the end of a year.

I had to have a cracked flex plate fixed on a work van of mine. It was very important that I have the van back within 24 hours. The owner took my order and I explained my needs. Clinton was very receptive and made arrangements to have the work done the night I dropped the van off. He and his staff were very nice and I hate to spend money on repairs but the price he gave me was the best I had found. I had received two other quotes for the work and his was the best. When I dropped the van off he personally offered me a ride home and when I picked the van up less than 24 hours later he was just as friendly. I did notice his place was a little crowded with vehicles but after my experience I can see why.

My (Sonya Easton) battery post was completely destroyed by boyfriend. The fantastic staff and mechanics took very good care of my car by fixing this problem and also making me aware of a low battery in my key fob. Definitely recommended!!

My wife paid for a motor swap in December 2019. The car was put in their shop in November 2019. Rather than find a motor wherever they could get one, they have waited 3 months on one supplier. My wife had to find the motor herself on February 3rd 2020. She has missed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years with her family. Yesterday her father died and she cant get home to be with her family because Aamco waited to complete a job they were paid to complete. Dont take your vehicle here unless you dont care how long it takes to be repaired. And corporate Aamco feels that waiting on a main supplier is a justified excuse for a quarter of a year to complete a job they were paid for.

About 2 months ago my transmission went out. I went around Charleston comparing repair shops. After checking out several of them, AAMCO was by far the cheapest (almost $1000 cheaper than one place), could get me in the fastest (they had it fixed a week later - some other places had a month wait list...), and were the friendliest (I tried to get an estimate from a Ford dealer and they kept switching me from parts department to labor department and back until I finally got tired of it). They did a great job keeping me informed of the progress and had me come back in a week after it was repaired for a final check-up. I also bought the 3-year warranty just in case, and since I moved to another state 2 weeks ago, I can use the AAMCO here when needed (lets hope not..). Shes been running great, have had no problems. Id highly recommend this place. Just beware that the little flag on Google maps doesnt point to their actual location. Theyre on MacCorkle but you have to turn behind Wendys to get there. Thanks!

Ive taken my car here twice now, once for a repair on my brakes and again for a state inspection. Both times Ive been extremely impressed with the staff and the service. I was broke down traveling though area and tow truck driver had no suggestions but I found this place with good reviews from other out of state people so decided that was where to be towed. Clint the owner was still there 3 hours after closing and answered all my questions with a lot of options to get me up the road ! Some where very expensive but repairs can be so he graciously took me to a hotel and next morning we communicated and in prompt time he had me on the road with a very fair price! $2900 worst case senecio was quoted the night before and I left the next morning for under $50 ! When I realized that my clutch was going out (after almost 20 years of urban driving) I contacted my Ford dealer. As they were backed upo with a factory recall, I decided to check other local options.I found AAMCO in South Charleston and gave them a call. The nice lady on the phone set me up with a prompt appointment to check out the transmission at no charge. I was given a fair (though still not cheap) price, and had the work done there. As it turned out, the mechanic who did the job was a man Ive known for years, so I knew the work would be first class.After picking the truck up, The pedal seemed a bit soft, so I called back. They insisted that they have the opportunity to re-bleed the clutch, and the matter was quickly resolved.

While just traveling through town, my transmission was about to die because of a leak. As busy as this place was, they found the time to check out what was happening, assessed the situation without adding any B.S., and were able to get me in and out the very next day. Let me tell you what a 180 this auto shop has done since the last time I was here years ago. It is under new management, and I went to get a state inspection on my car. Now usually most auto care places (as a woman) sometimes talk to me as if I am a 12 year old little girl. The new manager at Aamco is so professional, polite, and truly cares about his business. Great business man. In and out in no time for my inspection. Also the lobby inside is completely renovated so now it is much more pleasing to sit to wait for your car. Just amazed how much this shop has transformed. This will be where I go from now on in the Charleston area for any of my car matenience.

Very unsatisfied with the service I’ve had several vehicles I took down to them for transmission diagnostics and they didn’t have proper tools to communicate with the transmission and test drove them and said it could be or it could be well I believe what the tech said and replaced the parts supposedly causing the issue which I understand the tech was only trying to help by experience but why they told me to bring it in and drop it off to them when they already said they didn’t have the proper tool to communicate with it before I’ll never go back there again I figure they would just want to rebuild or replace it without actually being able to communicate to find the real problem then send me a bill I can’t afford and end up keeping my vehicle don’t think I’ll ever recommend this place to anyone horrible experience

I have an older vehicle which needs TLC as wear and tear takes its toll. My old mechanic told me I needed a major transmission repair or replacement which would cost thousands of dollars. Wow, I needed a second opinion and took my vehicle to Aamco in South Charleston WV. These guys discovered that it was not the transmission! They replaced a bad coil and saved me thousands! I will continue service at Aamco as they do more than just transmissions.

Took my truck in for transmition, told me ut would be done in jyst 2 days, called on 2nd day an they hadehadened ever looked at it, by day 3 still haddened looked at, so i went an picked up, when i got there, there were more cars that wasnt there when i dropped off mine 3 days before, they parked my truck a block up from there store in a high crime area, not pleased at all with service or professionalism, wont ever go there again, i only gave 1 star just to be able to write my review, they did my sister same way, 3 days on a 1 day job as they told her

Do not take your vehicle here. Is there anyway to vote - stars? They have mistreated, damaged my friends convertible. His initial issue was his transmission would not shift from first gear being in Drive. Pam the manager is very rude. They charged $2700 to rebuild his transmission after stating it would only be $1700. They did not even fix the problem that he initially had, but they sure made his car worse. They damaged his bumper and broke his license plate cover, and put the broken piece in his front passenger floorboard. Pam said none of her people did it, although it was obviously done by thier machine and acknowledged later, and they paid to fix it. He gets his car and it wont shift right, it was jumping from drive to neutral. When he took it back they said his linkage was broken. His car never had a problem shifting into gear before. So they broke his transmission linkage or they lied about it, and the manager Pam was trying to force him to buy a new one for around $300. When they fixed the linkage they also broke his shift indicator, now he cant tell what gear it is in. After that evening he tried to get his car, someone had sliced his brand new convertible top in 2 places on aamco property. Pam would not release their insurance holder on a 3 way call between my friend my friends insurance and herself. The problems to this day are ongoing, please find a reputable shop, this one seems to turn a computer relay problem into a $2700 rebuild that wont fix the problem to begin with.

The absolute worse experience Ive ever had with a garage. We purchased a new transmission, they installed a re-built one for the same price. They messed up our power steering pump while installing, lied and said they fixed it, they didnt. My car broke down 60 miles from home, had to pay for a tow myself. They tried to blame previous owners for their mess ups. After nearly 2 months we finally got our car back. Inept staff.

They have done good work on 3 vehicles for me and I will return when needed.

My transmission on my F250 Super Duty diesel truck began slipping while I was driving through Charleston. I contacted a AAA service company that recommended AAMCO Transmission or Bens Transmissions. I contacted both to try to get a soft quote on replacing the transmission. Aamco Transmissions beat Bens transmissions by nearly $850. It was kind of a no-brainer for me, since I didnt want to spend the money to begin with, and I was getting the exact same warranty from both places. I brought the truck to Aamco later that day, and was told probably about a week since it was over a holiday weekend. They did the repairs as promised, and I picked up the truck the following week. I cant believe how well it drives since they installed the new transmission. The owner, Clinton, treated me very well. The manager Clayton, also treated me very well. The mechanic who worked on my vehicle, whose name I dont know, did a great job and therefore treated me very well. Ive scrolled through and read virtually every review for AAMCO as well as Bens Transmissions. I noticed that most of the people leaving reviews have either one or two reviews in their history. I have well over 200 reviews in my history. I do this to try to help other people make good decisions because I dont like making bad decisions based on bad information. If you need a new transmission, I highly recommend Aamco. Its a nationwide company, and the warranty is excellent. This particular Aamco shop is owned buy a man with excellent character, and managed by a man of equal excellence. If Im ever in the Charleston area again and I have transmission issues or any other motor vehicle issues that can be resolved at this facility, Ill be giving them a call.

First and foremost, the South Charleston Aamco went above and beyond to service my vehicle quickly due to circumstances of my own (being from out of town and additional matters at hand).Secondly, I am without any doubt a difficult customer…. With that said, the following is my experience with the Aamco in South Charleston WV. June 17, 2015During a return trip home from OBX to Columbus Ohio, I lost the transmission in my truck. The truck was towed to the Aamco shop in South Charleston WV on a Sunday, dropped off with the key drop form and a phone message on the shop’s voicemail.Contact was made the next day (Monday) at approximately 9am and by 2pm the determination was made to replace the transmission with an Aamco rebuild. The truck was ready on Wednesday by noon as promised.I spoke with 3 different shops in that same area prior to authorizing the repair to determine if I was getting a fair deal and found that the SC Aamco was far more reasonably priced than the other 3 shops (one a dealership). A search of the internet offered little as to the quality of the Aamco parts however Aamco being a National chain and the warranty good at all locations the decision was made.Communication with the SC Aamco was timely though the shop is quite busy. For me, I saw this as a good sign that they have steady business.As for the South Charleston Aamco shop, I would do business with them again with no hesitation.As for the new rebuild transmission installed, I found the shifting at light acceleration to be firm with a slight bump from 1st to 2nd. I drove approximately 3 hours from South Charleston to Columbus Ohio and noticed no unusual sensation at highway speed.At the conclusion of the long drive and back into city traffic, the transmission did have a slight slack in response with a minor “thud” from a stop. I don’t believe this to be irregular for a GM product. Will be monitoring this closely.

I had plug wiring problem that no other transmission place could figure out gave me a good deal and really is the best transmission place in the state

These guys helped me when my trans went out and i was 5 hours from home. they got me going in 1 day so I was not stranded

After getting transmission looked at by aamco and told transmission fluid smelled burnt and was slipping in fourth gear that I needed to get my transmission rebuilt decided to get a second opinion. Needless to say vehicle was 2 1/2 quarts low, added and vehicle drives like a new one. #get second opinion
