We’ve been renting from CMS for 6 years and have always gotten great speedy service. Every time we’ve taken our cello in for repairs, they’ve always had it done within a day and always taken care of our musical needs.

Coolest music store in tucson, walked out with an ibanez bass with elixir strings for $150 and a fender amp for $120. they have a great selection for such a small store and mark was super cool and helpful. we’ll be back!

I have been a customer of the Chicago Store since 1988. It is a truly iconic store in Tucson, AZ. As a musician I was happy there was a store in town that sold nearly everything that I could possible want. Whether you are a classical, rock and roll, rap or jazz musician chances are you would be able to find what you need at the Chicago store.In addition to myriad instruments and accessories the Chicago store also provides a good repair shop and a sheet music store with a sizable collection of all musical genres and styles. I taught music in Tucson for many years and I always felt comfortable sending my students to this store. I think Mark Levkowitz has done a remarkable job renovating the store (it’s been operating for many, many years). I wish the store, Mark and his employees continued success for many years to come.

I remember the first time I went into the Chicago Store in Tucson. I was still in the Air Force, but something about the place made me feel like a little kid again. What a great feeling. I bought a Rogers drum set that day and I didnt even go in there to buy anything. Well here it is decades later (and four drum sets) and although I dont feel like a little kid anymore, I do feel a sense of agelessness. The place gives you a warm feeling as you see one of the local musicians dropping off their guitar to get set up or the faces on kids picking up or picking out their first instrument. I send anyone who asks to head over to the C-store, theyll take good care of you.

Great selection of instruments at a reasonable price. Guitar selection was great, and staff is very knowledgeable and dedicated to their customers. Would recommend to any musician, or anyone interested in learning a new musical instrument. I dont care to go downtown often, but will gladly make the trip to pay a visit to this store again.

I am a long time customer of The Chicago Store and have always favored this wonderful old store above any other of the local music stores. This morning when I went in to buy guitar strings, Mark was very helpful and suggested a set of strings that I think I am going to be very happy with as they give the softer sound I was looking for. However, as we were ending our transaction, I tried several times to speak to him and thank him for his help and ask him a question and he spoke over me and interrupted me several times, even after meeting eyes with me while trying to get his attention, I never was acknowledged. I left feeling less positive.

Ive been shopping here for years because no other place in town compares to their selection or prices. I love that I can give them a price range and no matter what the price range is I will get the best quality for my money. The staff there is amazing, I buy a lot of DJ equipment and the products are constantly coming out. Staff is always up to date on what just came out and what is going to be coming out soon. I always leave satisfied and excited about my purchase. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, the best part about Chicago music store is theyre not breathing down your neck pushing you to buy something, the staff is very kind and youre not just another sale to them.

I walked in today to rent a flute for my daughter who’s picking up an instrument for the first time ever. When I walked in I was greeted right away and helped just as quickly. I wasn’t sure of all the items I’d need but I was told exactly what I needed to be sure she’s all set to to play. I was buying a gift for another. Since it was to be a surprise I had a vague idea of what it would be especially since it involved an instrument I dont play. The older gentleman behind the counter suggested a particular model of what I had in mind and also suggested another item. I collected additional vague information and returned the next day to purchase the other item. The same gentleman was there, listened to my vague description, and pulled out a specific model from the back room.The recipient was delighted with both items and was amazed that I knew exactly what she wanted. Outstanding customer service at a great old music store! I wanted to pick up a Fender Mustang Micro Amp that was on backorder at many online stores. Was hoping to be able to find one locally to support Tucson business. Sent a note to the store and Mark quickly replied with a Come on down! Super friendly, wonderful experience. When we entered, we were greeted with a smile by Diamond at the front desk and wonderful staff. We were looking for a Bass Drum lyre but they didnt have it but they still improvised and said that a trumpet lyre could possibly work. I was very happy that they could still help with my problem. Also, the owner of the store, Mark wanted to donate to my high school and gave me goodie bags to give to the band and orchestra directors. As teachers, my husband and I have always appreciated their support with educational items, and special equipment that was lent for a performance for a school. I worked here for about 3 years and honestly felt like I became part of a family. Even now when ever I go back everyone is very friendly, prices are the best in town and the staff is very knowledgeable. Chicago Store has been around for so long that they know about every instrument out there, about every piece of equipment and more. Not to mention how amazing their repair shop is as well. Chicago store is a musical staple in Southern Arizona and I will always be doing all my music related shopping there.

We rented a clarinet through the Chicago Music Store and have always had great communication from the employees. We also brought in a family saxophone and they were able to check it out right away to be sure it was in working order!

I went the Chicago Music Store to pick up an item for my daughter and was greeted by Mark Levkowitz. He gave me a $5 dollar discount on the item I needed and I was not expecting it to happen. I would recommend this store to anyone looking for an item they need. I was in an out with no issues.

They told me they only charge for the E string on a single re-string on my bass guitar during a phone call I had with them because i only needed one string to get fixed. Only to get charged about 20$ when I picked up my instrument, 17$ for the re-string labor & 3$ for the string?? i love this store but that did not sat right with me

This is hands down the best music shop in Tucson and Ive tried them all. Its been difficult to find a dealer with expertise on the repair and maintenance of my soprano saxophone. Not only was their repair person able to immediately diagnose the problem but he fixed it on the spot. They also have some great instruments here at good prices and wonderful local history and flavor. Other places Ive visited either lack that, lacked expertise across instruments, or didnt seem to care whether I was coming or going. I will definitely be back. If you are in Tucson Id really suggest not wasting your time with any of the others.

Had neglected my baritone horn for many years and finally it stopped working - a stuck valve. The folks at the Chicago Music Store in downtown Tucson took it in, fixed the valve and refurbished the horn all in one day. Also the store has a funky vibe that just makes it a fun place to hang out and browse. Overall an excellent experience.

Shop local!!! I have been buying from Chicago Music Store my entire life. My parents shopped there in the old Congress location and I remember always loving my trips there even as a child. Mark, the owner, takes care of his patrons and continues to bring them competitive prices on great products backed by a knowledgeable service department (Mike @ downtown). My most recent purchase is the Shure SM58 Beta mic. I tested it out this morning at band practice and I am extremely happy with my purchase guided by expert help in directing me toward the product I needed. We went to check the store out, a young man named John asked us questions in a polite, not very inquisitive manner. It felt like a nice conversation. There was an old store vibe that gave us a warm feel. We asked about a guitar brand, they didnt have any but called their other location and suggested us to go check it. We bought some pick guards at a great price! Hands down a great store!

The Chicago Music Store is a Tucson institution that started out as a general store founded in 1919 by the grandparents of the current owner, Mark Lefkovitz. Over time, it morphed into a music store because of demand generated by one of his uncles playing in the high school band.When I first moved to Tucson in 2013, I purchased a soprano sax, MIDI keyboard and USB mixer, mic and headset from them at very good prices that have served me well. Mark and his staff are very friendly and know their products. Most of the local musicians shop there and steer the out of towners there when theyre here and they need something. Legend has it that Johnny Cash once came in and bought 12 guitars.
