We now have our third family member receiving care with Design Optical. It’s been an easy decision because the customer service cannot compare to other optical centers, nor the incredible selection of quality frames. Our youngest son, who has a medical eye condition, felt completely relaxed trying new glasses and confident with his final choice. Our tween daughter loved being able to take a few pairs home before making her frame choice. As a mother and customer, I’ve not only appreciated the selection for myself, but also the price range and follow up care. The whole family loves to come and enjoy the process of picking out a new pair of glasses and feels a part of the design vision family.

I arrived today for an appointment made via the phone weeks ago to learn that they have no record of me. To make matters worse, they couldnt take me and insuated that I must have been confused by erroneously scheduling this date and time with another area optician! I was made to feel quite uncomfortable in our conversation. They wanted to get me on their schedule for a future date. I declined. These folks might be great with eyes but definitely not so much with their organization and people skills.

Is it weird I just left the office and can’t wait to come back next year? That’s how great an experience I had with Design Vision Optical! I wanted a more personal experience than I feel I get at the large chains and that is what I received. My eye exam was detailed and not rushed. I elected for the 3D eye scan since I am pushing 50 years old. It wanted as much info on the health of my eyes and I was happy with the review of the results. While my glasses took a little longer to arrive now that they are here I love them! I needed them for a vacation I was taking, but they had not come back yet. They offered to mail them to the hotel I was staying at to accommodate me, which was great customer service to me. Everyone was friendly, location clean and COVID protections in place. Thank you for taking great care of me and my eyes!

My first visit this morning could not have gone better - It has been difficult finding an eye doctor who I feel takes a real interest in myself during my appointment and genuinely cares about her job. Dr. Swartz was wonderful and very thorough with my exam today - the ladies up front were kind and informative regarding my insurance coverage. I am happy to have this place right down the road and look forward to future visits at my new vision care home.

I look forward to my annual eye exam for contacts here. The COVID screening measures and cleaning practices are very thorough and I felt comfortable with their practices, masking throughout the exam. I like that I can book appointments online or call in if I prefer. The texting reply system is appreciated for confirming details. The staff is super friendly and the eye doctors are very knowledgeable. I have a very specific insurance that is known to be complicated and they worked with me to find the best deal and rebate for my contacts. I did not buy glasses this year, but browsed around the store and there were a variety of stylish and affordable options. They have a new retinal scan machine that if you have decent eye health allows so you don’t have to get dilated, slight additional charge, but worth it to me. Also they have a no puff pressure checker. They offer a candy when you leave if you like, nice job!

Friendly staff, helped me choose frames that will fit me well and look good on me, I felt like proper covid precautions were taken (distance, cleaning surfaces, cleaning any frames I touched or tried on before putting them back on the shelf, dividers, limited entrance) which I have not observed to be common during these times

I was able to make a last minute appointment and staff was so friendly and kind. They took precaution as needed but still made it welcoming. I love the personal feel and they had a great selection of glasses! I’d recommend giving it a shot!

I was initially happy with the service and selection at Design Vision, when it was time to find glasses for our three year old. However, a few weeks after we received the glasses, one of the lenses would fall out from time to time. When we returned, Cindy insisted we needed to teach her not to play with the glasses. I was pretty sure this was not the case, as I had yet to see our daughter take off her glasses and play with them. I didnt press the issue, as we were leaving the next day to return to our home, which is abroad. In the coming months, the lens continued to fall out, and its a miracle we havent lost it completely yet. I emailed Design Vision to see if there was anything we could do and never heard back. Finally, when we returned to Wisconsin again for a visit, I called to see what we could do. Cindi relayed that, had I called within the year, I could have just paid $35 for replacement lenses, however the year had been up exactly ONE DAY before my phone call so now I would have to pay $150. Needless to say, I was pretty unhappy with this response. To add insult to injury, the optician I chose to replace the glasses with instead of Deign Vision, quickly told me the lens that continues to fall out is cut too small for the frame. We will be moving to Wauwatosa permanently soon, but I will not be returning to Design Vision for our family.

I had spoken with Cindy and I called to schedule both an eye exam and a contact lens exam (was a year overdue for one). I had recently undergone an insurance change, that of which Design Optical doesn’t accept (T19). When I had first gone to them I was under private insurance through my employer. With that being said I was an insurance verification representative for 2.5 years; I know my knowledge in regards to insurance and how it works. She had informed me of the exam fees, WHICH WAS NOT AN ISSUE WHATSOEVER, and politely tried to even persuade me to another eye doctor & clinic instead of staying with them. I am more than aware that they do not accept T19, however I LOVED my Optometrist, Emmylou, and I was happy with the services that was provided to me, so I wanted to continue to see her; regardless of the price. Again, THE PRICE IS NOT AN ISSUE. Cindy was slightly belittling to me and discriminative due to me informing her of my new insurance carrier. I had even informed her that I am okay with paying out-of-pocket costs for my exams and ☝🏽 that I AM TOTALLY OKAY WITH STILL SEEING Emmylou REGARDLESS OF THIS. Her tone didn’t sound so sure of this; her tone sounding as if I can’t afford to pay my eye care bills or something?! Just unbelievable! 🤦🏾‍♀️I am seriously over the ignorance and the rude and cruel discrimination with people in this city! I’ve never had an issue with them until now. Like EVER. Because of how uncomfortable this made me feel they’ve lost a loyal customer. I will not be returning here.P.S. - To the Owner if this place...do not bother to comment. My opinion is true and non negotiable.

I have had my new glasses for over 6 months now and still am seeing great. I needed the glasses specifically for work and Cindy took the time to understand what I do for a living and make appropriate recommendations. This is a wonderful family owned business that is very friendly. The first moment I walked it I was greeted warmly and felt like Cindy really wanted to get to know me. This business also gives back to the community as she was a sponsor for my daughters swim club. Cant say enough. Would highly recommend!

Because I have an eye disorder from birth and am now in my mid 50’s, I have been to a lot of optometrists opticians over the years. Design Vision Optical is outstanding! The exam is very thorough, as is the glasses fitting. One never feels rushed, and concerns are listened to in order to correct the patient’s vision to its highest acuity. Above all, the friendliness and caring atmosphere make Design Vision Optical an outstanding choice for vision care.

Updated: I ditched my insurance. To DVOs point, the insurance company has this strange caveat with contact lens exams. Then I realized it was the Luxottica monopoly that owned the eye glass insurance. Google Luxottica monopoly. Not a nice company. Up to four points when I remove my insurance fiasco.Please be aware there is a one time new patient fee of $145 which your insurance will not pay. Everything else is very very professional but honestly, I was hit with that charge after all was said and done and the exam was completed.So next year I will not have that charge, agreed, but next year I might also work for a different company with a different insurance program. Walmart, when I was uninsured was $95 full exam by a private doctor within their facility. I have three dependents. Do the math. Ouch. Might be going with the reimbursement route next time and always. More hassle but cheaper when you actually shop around.

I Struggled to find a place that offers glasses to children with special needs. I am relieved that I came across Design Optical Vision. My experience has been nothing but amazing. I’ve been coming here for about 4 years and I will never go anywhere else. Cindy is the most sweetest person I’ve encountered she made sure my child felt comfortable since the beginning, making fitting for glasses easier. Not only is Cindy and her team at Design Optical are extremely experienced and knowledgeable and I would recommend them to anyone, specially families with special needs. Look elsewhere for your full service eye care needs!I concur with the other reviewer that gave 1 star finding it questionable that everybody else gave such high ratings to this provider.In summary, the eye exam was very thorough and the optometrist took her time for which I was quite impressed. That prompted me to also consider getting my frames and lenses with this provider and that is when all took a quick turn for the worse. In summary,1) I asked the staff to provide a comparative quote of the cost for the prescription lenses and frames - insurance vs out-of-pocket. The staff member could not accurately determine my vision coverage benefits which resulted in an inaccurate and misleading comparison. I kept challenging her and the owner on each of the charges as I had never ended up paying so much out-of-pocket after the insurance adjustment had been made. Her explanation was, your prescription must be different this time. I had never experienced such difficulties with a provider to properly determine the insurance coverage. I ended up paying the difference trusting her explanation. I eventually found out that the insurance claim was not processed and I was charged all as an out-of-pocket expense. Clearly, their agenda from the beginning was to steer me away from processing the order as an insurance claim and get me to pay out-of-pocket.2) They kept trying to convince me that I should not use my vision insurance provider because it was a known fact that they damaged the frames and that the quality of the lenses were not good. I have used the vision insurance provider for years without a problem. They were pushing to use their lab in Green Bay since they provided high quality HD lenses. When I received the lenses, I found out that they used Hoya lenses which are no different that what you would get elsewhere. Dont believe this if they tell you. They clearly push their own lab to increase their margins. Thus, they are more concerned about maximizing their margins than providing the best cost effective solution to their customers.3) They also indicated that using their Green Bay lab would make the delivery quicker vs using an vision insurance provider. This didnt turn out to be the case with a 2+ week delivery time.4) I agree with the other reviewer that gave 1 star that the attitude and approach particularly from the owner is deceitful while being calm and nice to you at the same time. I experienced the same thing. I believed her statements about the Green Bay Lab and the explanations related the differences between the costs of insurance vs out-of-pocket... later to find out that these were truly not really true but rather a tactic to not process my order as an insurance claim.I will not return to this provider and will not recommend it to anyone for full service eye care needs. If you end up going, just do the eye exam and get your frames and lenses elsewhere. This way you can get the benefits of a thorough eye exam at Design Vision and a more cost effective and less deceitful frames and lenses purchasing experience.

I really really hate given bad reviews especially a 1 star if I could do 0 stars I would.I like given ratings true to my experinces.Not sure how the other raters can rate this place so high.The service from the optometrist was good I will say that which may be the only reason for a star. The sevice from the other staff especially the owner was horrible.I very rarely see this and I mean rarely but, as others and I hate to say kids that were not Black came in they were greeted with welcomed and celebrated with open arms and candy.For my son whos us it was like he wasnt there like he didnt exist the discrimination was so obvious that my daughter tried to Ignore it.My wife tried and had enough and said ok lets go it was so bad. When I addressed it in a calm respectfull cordial professional way it was denied.Then even worse she wouldnt let us cancel the contact order and wouldnt release the perscriptions to another optical place It was like she held it for random. To get it was passed pulling teeth .I felt like we would never get them.She may say well I gave you a copy but, whats the problem if another optical place request for the perscriptions. Never in all the years of me wearing glasses from my teens have I ever had this problem. The fact that she can lie to your face or to you so well and so much its unreal.She can look at you sounding nice,calm, and smiling and lie threw her teeth.I hope this brings better service to other but,I WILL NEVER GO THERE OR REFER OTHERS AND SHES PROBABLY HAPPY ABOUT THAT.Which is a sad commentary for any business.
