I have really enjoyed working with the guys at Limey and would highly recommend them. As a new owner of a motor scooter this year, I did not anticipate how often I would need to bring it into a shop for (unlucky) repairs. I’ve had to bring my Buddy 125 scooter in many times to replace tires, an oil change, a broken wheel bearing, and cut wires and broken paneling from a failed attempt to steal the scooter. They have done great work every time, including custom making parts and working on a scooter although they specialize in foreign motorcycles. They are quick, communicative and go above and beyond to get the scooter safe to drive. Really grateful to have a great shop so close to where I live.
Probably the sickest bike shop in Austin. The guys here are just about the most honest, kind, helpful and knowledgeable bike builders and mechanics I’ve ever encountered. They have been restoring my 1978 Honda CB 750 and have turned what was once a pile of parts in to a work of functioning art. They have earned my business and I would highly recommend them to anyone with zero hesitation.
Limey Bikes is the only place I trust to do work on my bikes. I take my 71 CB350 and 70 Trail 90 here regularly. Chris and Elijah really know their way around old Honda motorcycles.Never had a bad experience here. They get the work done in a timely manner and at a very fair price. They are often quite busy though so I suggest giving a call ahead of time before you drop a bike off.
Very communicative, highly skilled, small business so they are in direct communication with you. Highly recommend these humans.
Knowledgeable guys, but they make a lot of mistakes. Been taking my bike there for a good 3 years now and I’m over it. This time they forgot to put the plate back on my front sprocket. Thank goodness I caught it myself.*It’s worth noting that they did try and make amends, but I ended up just buying my own plate and doing it myself. Things like this have happens to me and many of the others that I’ve sent their for vintage bike repair. ‘Minor’ details keep getting missed.
Went a while back to get help with something I screwed up. Super friendly and knowledgeable. Saving my pennies to get more work done through them.
One of the few shops I could find to work on my carburetors and especially me having little to no knowledge on motorcycles they were very good to explain everything and are very good to work with when it comes to what needs to be done and pricing. Unfortunately I happened to drop my bike and they took care of the damages in a good time frame. 10/10 would wreck again to do business with these guys👍🏼👍🏼
Great people they give u alot of info
Top notch place, Elijah and Chris really knowledgeable, very professional.
I had a great experience with their service. They were so fast and easy to work with. Cris and Elijah got my 1982 Yamaha XJ650RJ running smooth! I’m so happy with it. I recommend them to anyone who has a carbureted motorcycle. Excellent service at a reasonable price.
Elijah and Chris make this place worth every penny. They will go above and beyond for you. After calling multiple shops, the primary reason for choosing Limey, was because I didn’t want to ride back at night the following day. Even though the tires were a little cheaper online, I would’ve had to wait a couple of days. They gave me a turn around time of less than 24 hours! That included the shipping, installing, balancing AND still found the time to give my entire bike a quick look to make sure I was good to ride back home to SA. Thanks for the knowledge and letting me get home safe guys.
100% percent go here if you need anything done to your bike. Mine got stolen, I got it back, and the boys fixed it. Super thankful they didn’t 🤜🏽 my 👌🏾 with the price. I’ll forsure go again if need be
Chris and Elijah are the best motorcycle mechanics in town for anything considered a vintage motorcycle, and on the rare occasion they cant do something in-house, they know the best people in town for that stuff too.
Great place to have your classic bike serviced! Chris and Elijah are both great guys and very knowledgable - they always explained stuff clearly and pointed out exactly what needed to be done. Not the cheapest shop in town but theyre honest, fast, and reliable. 100% recommend.
Amazing mechanics, knowledgeable and fast... I’m running at 14k ft EASY now.
At Hawg Hawler Motorcycle Transport I haul/tow alot of my customers European and Japanese bikes to Limey Bikes and theyve all expressed how satisfied they are. The guys there at Limey are knowledgeable and talented. Its certainly worth considering Limey when you need work done on your vintage ride. Cheers!
The owner Chris seems like a great guy and its really cool he hired both his helpers despite their autism and social ineptitude.
Chris and Elijah were super helpful in helping me fix my bike. I needed the bike for that coming weekend and they were able to rebuild my carburetor and have the bike back to me in time! Great guys, highly recommend their motorcycle services!
Got help from Elijah on my visit today. Extremely nice guys both him and Chris. Highly recommend dropping by here if you need help with your bike.
Great people fixed my Zx7r right up
Ive been taking my 1981 Honda CM400 to Chris and Elijah for NINE YEARS and somehow Ive never written a review. They are extraordinarily helpful and knowledgeable about motorcycles, particularly in their specialty of vintage Japanese bikes. Both of them have been extremely generous with their time and patience and many times theyve walked me through my questions over the phone allowing me to fix minor issues myself. For bigger work I always go to them. This 40-year-old Honda has been my daily rider for many years and I depend on them to get it fixed quickly and safely. Ive been to several other bike mechanics over the years and theyve ALL disappointed me. Limey Bikes never has. At this point I wont take my vintage bike anywhere else!!
Hands down best motorcycle shop in Austin. Staff was helpful and the turnaround time was quick.
Great guys. Very transparent, informative and fair. Also, a divine talent when it comes to carbs. Turned my 650 into the bike it shouldve been coming off the showroom floor. Just impressive. Worth every penny.
Chris has been working on my 1950 BSA for the past couple of weeks. Getting everything running great. He is so knowledgeable and helpful. Very impressed by these guys. Glad i chose to get the work done here.
Chris over at Limey Bikes is truly an expert. After owning my 72 Honda for a year, with a less than thrilling riding experience (due to unsatisfactory repair work at a highly rated Austin motorcycle repair shop... who shall remain nameless) I finally brought my bike over to Limey. If you own a vintage Japanese bike, do not go to another repair shop in Austin! These guys are the best and are honest, which is much appreciated as a less experienced rider. If your bike needs repaired, go to these guys and spread the word. Thanks Chris & crew for providing me with my first 3 hour day of riding & actually enjoying my bike!
Best place in Austin to bring your vintage or late model motobike of Asian manufacture.
Best bike shop Ive been to, and Ive been to a few. Only place Ill be going from now on.
Small, fun shop. Dont go anywhere else for Japanese bikes.
I had taken in my unit triumph and wow did Chris do an amazing job. All the years Ive owned the bike, I have never seen the bike run this well. I highly recommend anyone with an older bike to bring their bike here.
Nice if you’re looking for rebuilt bikes or rebuilding a bike
The bike shop repaired my Triumph head and are friendly and professional.
Carried my 1979 Kawasaki KZ1000 in for carbs rebuild and tune up, guys were great, bike runs better than when new I believe, would highly recommend them for working on your vintage bike!!!
I just dont think you will find anyone better for your classic Japanese bike. Chris and Elijah keep my 1976 Honda CB550 running like new.
Stop reading these reviews and take your bike in already! Hands down the most helpful shop Ive found in Austin. Got a question? Ask! The CORRECT answer is always happily given. Chris does an amazing job on these old bikes. If you have a pre-80s Japanese bike chances are he will have it running better than it ever has. He has help me put my first 2000 miles on my 72 cb500 with many many more to go. Thanks Chris!
Great service from a friendly and knowledgeable gear head who runs the shop. I would bring my bike back for any service its never run as well as after he finished tuning the carbs.
Chris is very knowledgeable about the bikes. Other shops in town that do vintage work focus more on European bikes, but Chris has a niche and sticks to it. He is reasonable and easy to discuss work with. That is the good. The bad? Well, they frequently phone it in at times and do nothing to redress their mistakes. Ill cite three examples.First, when they converted my brake line to stainless, they used a cheap line without a cover. They also did not properly do it in two sections where one goes to the pressure switch and the other goes to the caliper. Chris told me that its perfectly legal, since the rear brake light switch works. They also removed the brake switch from my bike and did who knows what with it. I will be re doing this work myself.Specify the work you expect done up front with these guys or they will just freestyle / phone it in, cutting corners in a way you will likely not prefer.Second, when they repaired my bike, they left the tool tray off of my bike. When I brought this up with Chris, he blew me off, saying its only $10. Well, the first tool tray took me 9 months to find on ebay - sometimes its not about the cost. I asked his mechanic about the tool tray and he said he remembered seeing one around the shop but did not know what bike it was from and put it on a different bike. I found another one six months but it cost me $45.Fully check your bike when you leave their shop to make sure they havent forgotten to put anything back on your bike.Third, I got new tires put on my bike. Chris claimed he needed to take the exhausts off to do the rear tire, even through I was able to take the rear wheel off without touching the exhausts when I did the brake shoes. Thats fine. It cost a little extra for their time, but I ate it.The problem is, when they put the exhaust back on, they did not fully tighten the rear passenger peg or neglected to put the lock washer back on, because the peg flew off the bike at speed. I made it home and ended up scavenging a spare to use. Its not in as good condition and I had to use a new bolt, which is new and shiny and doesnt match the other side. Oh well.Again, check your bike when you get it back from them because their attention to detail is often poor. I am only writing this review because when I brought these things up with them, they blew me off.
Great guys that know what they’re talking about.
Great service, very friendly and affordable!
Chris runs the best bike shop in Austin, hands down the most helpful and honest shop I have ever dealt with....and I am an old guy riding since 1974!
I ride an older Harley that picked up a good sized slash on/in the rear tire. After an unsuccessful attempt to inflate with fixoflat I found Limey Bikes was the closest shop. The bike and I limped in unannounced. The guys were busy but happy to help out with this emergency. The bike is my only transportation in Austin and my home is in San Antonio. These guys gave me a spot to hang out in the shop while they finished a bike on the lift. I learned quite a bit in the time their just talking bikes. Im an old sportster fan so learned alot about old Japanese bikes. The replacement tire was much cheaper than expected and the owner, Chris I think, even tuned up my carb for free because I mentioned it being hard to start when cold. Bike started much better this cold morning. I highly recommend. These guys remind me of old school mechanics who can identity the issue, and actually fix the problem. Too many mechanics these days just replace parts until they get it right. Their custom bikes look great also.
No sense of intake...
Great service and knowledge there. Extremely satisfied with the work they did on my xs.
These guys are an unbeatable combination of awesome expertise (including very high end customizations and fabrications) and just flat out caring about getting (and keeping) your motorcycle on the road.i have a bmw airhead and even though they dont work on bmws ill be bringing in my bing carbs for service and i couldnt be happier with this shop.its great to find a shop where you can see the high end customs in the shop, get your ride taken care of, have it explained to you - and watch the guys take great care of former customers just stopping by to say hi or ask a random question.i feel really fortunate to have found chris and limey bikes. A++++
Big help in the rebuilding of my 65 Triumph 650.
Brilliant work. The best in their field.
I never review anything, but these guys know what they are doing and deserve it. If youve got an old Japanese bike, bring it here.
The only place to take older Japanese bikes in town. Chris and Elijah are bike whisperers like nothing else.
Very cool guys .
Cool place
Great people, helpful
Fun and efficient.
