A friend sent me the Earl Grey cake for my birthday. Arguably the best cake I have ever had. Subtle flavor of bergamot, a chocolate mouse layer and a layer of not-overly-sweet chocolate in a fine texture, like eating slightly moistened sweetened cocoa powder. Simply a-ma-zing! Looking forward to my next birthday! Outstanding invention Burdicks!!
Their pastries are delicious! I have tried several of them and my favorite are the coconut chocolate cake and the Georgetown. I have also tried their hot chocolate but I didn’t like it as much. Their hot chocolates are made using melted chocolate and the texture ends up being too thick and sweet for my taste.
One of the few legendary places I will rank in Boston, and is truly deserving of this legendary tier because of how amazing the chocolates are. Heres the catch - the chocolates are fresh and real cocoa, so they taste a bit on the bitter side. However, I love dark and bitter chocolate, so I appreciate the quality you can taste. Big fan of their hot chocolate and cookies. These are very rich confectionaries, and you have to savor them with every sip and bite. On the expensive side, but if you have the chance to try it, Id say give it a shot.
I guess the buzz for the place was too big and maybe we got something that is not the star for them... We had:Two espresso drinks and two desserts.Desserts look good, but did not taste as good.Linzer Torte was heavy and hard to swallow. Less dough would make it nicer and more delicate. The Burdick - was okey, nothing special.
This place is amazing I cant believe I hadnt come here before. The employees were very polite and the treats were very good. The hot chocolate is a great thickness and the chocolates did taste of good quality. I was told I could sit down to drink the hot chocolate but I was on the go so I cannot talk about the dining in experience, however, I can say that the employees were nice to me.
Their hot chocolate drinks are out of the world! If you plan to try them, I’d recommend you buy the small size. They’re too thick and heavy for a drink.
Great place with delicious chocolates. Good for take out or dining in. Customer service was fantastic. Even if there’s a line they worth through it efficiently.
The best chocolates in Boston. Very good chocolates if not a but pricey
I cant tell if the taste is so special. I enjoyed it but it was just a chocolate and so expensive.... $4 for a penguin as big as my thumb. i liked the atmosphere and the staff was nice.
Looks small but inside quite large with seating tables available. Jessie was very helpful it was my first time there picked up a lot of goodies for myself, family, and friends. Would come back and highly recommend.
Its an okay, and cute little place. One of the staff who might be the main manager or something is a bit rude, hes there quite often, so I assume hes a manager or something. The other staff are wonderful! The food and drinks are always very heart warming.
Delicious hot chocolate! I have to say one of the best hot chocolates in town! I love coming here for one in a cold or rainy day! It always helps to pick up my day! 🥰🥰🥰
Im not sure how long this adorable little chocolate-filled cottage has been here, but I feel like it popped up via fairy magic! I was SHOCKED at how low their prices are considering the quality of their products. We bought 16 of the small chocolates from their case for like $40, and every single one was fancy $200 box of chocolates from some crazy famous chocolatier tier tasty!! They also have drinking chocolate for home or at the cafe, along with beautiful little pastries and a super cute sitting area. Next time I gotta try those! Go here, you wont regret it!!
Hot chocolate was delicious. Theres a wait depending on when you get there but its worth it.
Cute chocolate shop! Lots of options to choose from.
Good place for chocolate lover! So many different types of dessert and drink to try. They even have different types of chocolate from milk to dark as well as hot chocolate. We tried the limited edition peppermint chocolate as well as the Earl Grey mousse cake and the Burdick cake. The last two were winners in my book.
Hot chocolate is very rich and thick!!!! It adds a lot of calories.
Bar none. The best chocolate.Well worth the price paid. The box chocolates make a great gift for any recipient!Paul T Seta.
Most decadent hot chocolate you can have in Boston. They have multiple varieties, so you can buy one that suits your sweet preference. Their Mexican Spicy Hot chocolate is just sublime: perfectly chocolatey with a slight punch of spice. They also have the drinking chocolate available for purchase. Cant wait to visit again!
The world has never known better hot chocolate.
Good hot chocolate, but dissatisfied with customer service. I went with my big family since my daughter had recommended it and ordered the dark chocolate mocha. After my first taste, didn’t like the taste and asked for another drink. (My family had bought 6 hot chocolates) Pat was rude and wouldn’t switch it for me. Then after we were leaving, my mom didn’t want to through throw glass in the trash and wanted to recycle it. They said Boston doesn’t recycle glass. After researching, they do. Hopefully they train their employees to have better customer service.
Really good hot chocolate, definitely a must try if you are visiting Boston or you live here. Store is often crowded to find a seat, but you can do a to-go especially if you are walking around Newbury street. They have milk, dark, white, and single source hot chocolates on their menu. And of course the store has a lot of gift items for purchase.
Really is the best hot chocolate i have ever tasted in my life. I know it sounds exaggerated but the line is well worth ur time(if you don’t want to be in lines, avoid weekends). My favorite is the signature milk hot chocolate even thought i am fan of dark chocolate because milk hot chocolate is very rich and dark hot chocolate is too dark and hard to swallow (very thick). There is no dine in area because of COVID. The earl grey mousse dessert was really good and the harvard square was not as great as expected(just really dark, sweet, and rich). Their signature milk chocolate bars make great gift and truly are one of kind! I hope you become a regular here granted that you are in the area.
Great chocolate. Also a fab spot to stop for the richest hot chocolate around a pastry.
The best chocolate store in Boston. Everything is so good and the people who work at the store are the best. Been going here for years and love the harvard branch as well. During the pandemic this is one the first places I was comfortable about dinning in cause they are doing such a great job. Their dark and milk hot chocolate is to die for and they have a Demi size if you wanna have both. Don’t get fooled by the size it’s so rich and flavorful. The chocolate cookie is a more recent addition and it’s one of the best things on the menu now. Have it warm and do not save it for later 🥰 best gifts to give anyone you love. They do have some chocolates that are but free but cross contamination is a possibility and depending on how severe your condition is. Can’t wait to have more burdicks in my life.
I had the chocolate coconut cake really good! Just the right size.
If your looking for exotic gourmet chocolates, this place doesnt dissapoint! They have some very unique combinations that blew me away. Forget about Teuschers few blocks up this place is that good.
Probably the best hot chocolate I have ever had. We decided to try all three, dark, white, and milk chocolate. All three were so darn good. Very rich high quality chocolate. Even the white chocolate blew this normally white chocolate hating person away. It is very cramped inside. If you plan to sit, you will be sitting on top of others. We got baked goods, and they were delicious. We didnt even think of getting some chocolates, I would definitely do that next time.
Hands down the best chocolates. Also one of the best dessert shops in the city. They recently started dine in again.
Very good hot chocolate, it’s the Spanish type, rich and dense
Lived up to the reviews and word of mouth. Amazing milk hot chocolate, perfect during the chilly past couple of days. On weekends, they line people outside and only let a few people in at a time for safety. On Monday, it wasnt crowded so we were able to go in and take our time looking at the pastries before choosing some delicious items.
I must admit when I walked by and saw the sign that read best hot chocolate in the U.S. I was skeptical. However something urged me in to try... And wow. So rich in flavor, creamy and everything you would want in hot chocolate. I spiced it up with a Spicy Hot Chocolate (basically a Mexican Hot Chocolate). I substituted Almond Milk and was a bit nervous it wouldnt be as creamy. Well, it was still amazing. The staff is very nice and helpful. They take allergies seriously which is comforting. Charming little location.
Excellent chocolate. Incredibly slow, indifferent service. I was buying a gift. Almost had to wrap it myself. I was there early on a Sunday morning. Not busy.
Adorable gourmet chocolate shop with mini chocolate 🐧 🐁 🐘 and amazing croissants/ French desserts
Both dark and mom iced hot chocolates were amazing! Washrooms are also super clean!
My absolute favorite place for hot chocolate in Boston!! I’ve been to both the Back Bay and Cambridge locations numerous times. The dark hot chocolate is a MUST try. I usually get a small because it is so rich and creamy that you don’t need a bigger size. I’ve also tried their cakes which are delicious and super cute.
Some of the best handmade chocolate in Boston. Check out their signature chocolate mice
Best hot chocolate you will ever have!
Not just a chocolate shop but a cafe as well. Visited on a hot summer day so did not partake in the many hot chocolate offerings.Back Bay location and high quality chocolate means it is an expensive treat.
Beautiful place with deliciously yummy flavors!!! 😋
Three words: Iced. Drinking. Chocolate. Listen yall northerners dont need this. Its like 4 degrees in Boston. Keep your hot chocolate. Im taking the iced drinking chocolate idea home with me where the summers are 90+ and 60%humidity for 5 months straight.Oh and the store is nice and staff super friendly. Like amazingly friendly. Ten stars.
Great chocolates and baked goods. $$$$ but worth it.
Expensive but sooooo goooood. Had the chocolate raspberry cake/tart, the earl grey dessert, and a drinking chocolate. Especially the earl grey dessert was amazing!
Waited for 15 mins to get pueces, but in the end, they didnt even get the right order and did not even apologize. After covid, they ran short on staff and are running the store with amateurs, so the quality really went down
I love this store. I ordered a Earl grey cake and it tastes wonderful. It is very early greyish. The tea is well blended with blueberry mousse, which goes very well with the chocolate cake. The most important part is their chocolate and pastry are not too sweet. I really love their products.
Literally the BEST chocolate for all occasions; fancy or not. The boxing and the details in every piece of chocolate is phenomenal. Keep it consistent. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT ❤️
Delicious Chocolates! Highly Recommend!
I only wish they have more seats but their products are absolutely amazing
Omg. The hot chocolate. The hot chocolate. The hoooot chocolate. It was sooooo goooood!!! The best dark hot chocolate ive had in my life. Rich and creamy. Almost but not quite like molten chocolate. I could write a 10 page vignette on how much i loved it. It was one of their limited edition hot chocolates, and the price was higher than i expected, but 100% worth it.
This place is so charming. I love the bittersweet hot chocolate and they have beautiful caramels and sweets also. It’s a warm inviting atmosphere.
Best hot chocolate Ive had in a very long time! (Tried Venezuela)
Food and beverage is really good but the service is awful. The employee who prepares the orders forgets things and is more worried about reminding the clients to wear a mask between every bite or sip... very annoying since he does that every 5 minutes, coming into the room and constantly looking at you from the kitchen. Do not recommend at all.
Best milk chocolate hot chocolate Ive ever had
On the weekends there is a good chance there will be a line out the door due to covid capacity restrictions. There are a few places to sit and a bathroom.I love this place for the chocolate obviously and the friendly/professional staff; I always feel welcome, and literally everything for sale here has consistently great quality. It is my favorite cafe in Boston.PS my friend has celiac disease and is extremely sensitive to gluten, but she is able to have the hot coco and chocolate bars here no problem. Im not sure about the truffles etc but I would ask a staff member and they should be able to help you if you need to know.
The drinking chocolate is amazing. However there is no seating after 11am. Even when there is no other customers in the store! I guess COVID is more active after 11:00am. Had we been able to actually sit and enjoy, we would have tried something more. Instead we were sent into the cold. Atleast we had a hot beverage for a few minutes.
On a cold winter’s night this is the perfect stop for warming up. Gold and pink striped candy shop walls meld with the fragrant aroma of chocolate. They have milk, dark, and white hot chocolates available, and dark reaches into the depths of the cocoa. I tried the single source origin from Ecuador, and it was so dark and rich I had to sip it gently despite the fact it could have been warmer. The spice lingered on the palette. Mint hot milk chocolate proved to be a lovely, milder, and much hotter choice. Their dessert tray tempts as well as their chocolates.
Tried their dark hot chocolate and white hot chocolate- it was very rich and thick. We also LOVED their passion fruit mousse and coconut dark chocolate pastry
Boston locals know Lindt’s got NOTHING on L.A. Burdick’s. From their addictive made to order sipping chocolate (in white, milk or dark chocolate, available lactose free) to their adorable chocolate mice, Burdick’s chocolate doesn’t just taste good, it looks good too. Chocolates are lovingly packaged with box and silk ribbon, even if buying a single truffle. Is it pricey? Sure, but isn’t that why we give chocolates as a gift (even just for yourself!) with Max Brenner’s closed (and Burdick’s still superior in quality and taste), get your Lindt on sale at CVS, and your fine chocolates from a L.A. Burdick’s
