Cool dudes, awesome stock of bikes, really can tell these people ride bikes when you walk in. Im horrible with bikes and repairs and these dudes hooked me up with some Damage control repairs from another bike shop that kinda screwed me over. Prices dont feel the way you think they might with a small shop like this and thats rare. Support em. Do it. EDIT: put about 24 miles in the day of review with no issue as opposed to the half mile with the other repair . Good stuff.

I have come here several times in the past. Although it is more expensive than other shops it was convenient to where I live and the staff seemed knowledgeable enough.Today I went at the posted open for the shop (11:15 am, shop opens at 11:00 am according to their posted hours at shop and online) and it was closed. Complete waste of time as I have a very hectic schedule like anyone else. It is too bad.I found a new shop and I wont be returning.

I purchased a bike from UCD last April as a birthday present for my girlfriend. Wed been bike shopping for weeks, so we were excited to find the perfect bike at a local shop in our neighborhood. Darrin, the shop owner, told us delivery would take about a week.Initially, we were patient as one delay led to another, but after three months of countless calls, emails, and trips to the shop, we gave up and asked for a refund. Again, we were patient as we waited over a month for the refund, but after the fourth time we were promised the refund was on its way, we gave up and decided to settle the matter in court. We won in Small Claims Court this morning, with the judge ruling in about five minutes - small consolation given all the time weve spent just trying to get our money back. While I have my suspicions, Im hesitant to accuse Darrin and the UCD of outright fraud, as admittedly, there are some great reviews from other customers. What I do know is this: Darrin is a liar, and it comes very easy to him. One day he would tell us the bike arrived damaged, the next day he would say it hadnt arrived at all. One day hed say import tariffs were the problem, the next day hed blame a new employee. When we questioned him about his ever-changing story, he claimed - and I couldnt make this up even if I wanted to - he was jumped by neighborhood bike thieves and couldnt think properly after being hit over the head.If you make your purchase and leave bike-in-hand, Im sure youll have a decent experience. If you make your purchase and have to wait, know that my experience isnt unique, and youre in for a long, extremely frustrating, ride (pun intended).

I have been a cyclist on the front range and in Denver my whole life, I have been to my Dads go to shops and tried to find own once I moved downtown 10 years ago. I am very happy that I have now found my personal go to bike shop. These could not be more helpful, knowledgeable, and courteous. Every time I go in there I leave with a better bike and most valuable of all more knowledge. If you go anywhere else in the city (especially Turin) its time to make the change.

I just took my street cruiser bike to the UCD and immediately got in to have an expert (didnt catch his name) look at my bike, he made the necessary adjustments, taught me how to be able to fix it on my own, all free of charge. I know there are some bad reviews on here, but I had a completely positive experience with a bike adjustment that was previously misdiagnosed and failed to be repaired at REI. I will definitely be back for adjustments and to check out the great shop and inventory. Thank you UCD!

I was looking to repair my bike, as I had both my tires stolen and needed replacements. I took in my bike frame to this store and just had a frustrating time with the customer service. They did not have the tires I needed and both reps were very unsure of how quickly they could get the tires ordered and shipped to the store. It was an unhelpful experience and they couldnt recommend any other places that could help me.I understand that store called The Urban Cyclist will mainly have parts geared towards city bikes (mine is a hybrid), however I think any bike shop should have parts that fit multiple bikes, especially if they are termed an all-purpose bike shop.

They also have a little street where you can go out and test ride the bikes, which was really helpful in my decision-making. Alright, so I understand that theres a lot of bad reviews concerning product delivery. I wanted to leave a very honest, transparent review about my experience, because my bike was also delayed. For sure I was upset at first, but these guys were on top of it, gave me a bike in the interim, and hooked it up after. Free bike lock, tune-ups for life, and a discount on the bike for the trouble. Look, I know its easy to read a bunch of reviews online and form an opinion, but were all human and sh*t happens! If you are so jaded that you cant understand these dudes are running a small business in an expensive as heck neighborhood, trying their best, and DEFINITELY ALSO dont want to be in a situation where the bike is not delivered, then you should go elsewhere. But if youre a normal person who gets that theyre just out here trying to sell dope bikes, then go here. Support local small business, support the RiNo community. Buyer Beware. Please disregard all the sponsored reviews on this shop. The owner of this (hopefully soon to be out of business) establishment is a mile-long list of expletives. Most of all he is a crook and a liar. I was finally able to get my bike back today after 3.5 months. After blowing past the agreed upon deliverable date on work to be done (a headset and tune-up) and with no response to calls, texts, or emails I resorted to driving by the shop every other day for about 2 months. I simply had to drive by and see my unfinished bikes through the windows and hope to see someone there (during posted business hours of course). So, by chance, today the owner was there. Despite requesting more time with my bike to complete it, and offering any excuse possible from medical complications, family emergencies, multiple hospital trips, cut internet lines, road construction, building construction, and on and on; he literally would not stop try to shift any accountability. He certainly did not offer my money back. While the owner was trying to explain away his actions (or lack of action/communication) I simply loaded the parts and pieces that were once my bike and drove to another shop with good reviews. This has been a terrible and unnerving experience and I would hate for anyone to have a similar one. This shop does not deserve your business. I am out several hundred dollars, ¼ of a year, a cancelled cycling trip, and I still need to pay to have the work done. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere.

I went into Urban Cyclist because i heard that they sold Leader frames. When my brother and I entered the shop we were greeted by a employee who asked us if we were doing ok. After I asked about the new Leader frames he quickly went and got the shop owner, Darren, to help us out on our new bike. Darren was extremely polite, and was very excited to help me on the new custom build. He not only honored the clearance price that was listed on the Leader website, but he convinced the company to ship it 2-day air just because i needed a bike so bad. My last bike was recently stolen and it was my main mode of transportation. Darren is not your run of the mill, know it all, bike shop employee. He really cares about his customers and loves what he is doing. My experience here was not great. They told me that they had a bike, I paid for it and they ended up not even having the size/color I purchased. In an attempt to make up for this they let me have a slightly nicer frame (a nice gesture), but in order to make up for their loss they charged me to install the new pedals and wheels I bought without telling me. First of all, putting on wheels and pedals is not $20 dollars worth of labor, and had they told me they would charge me for it I gladly would have declined and taken the 5 minutes it would have taken to do it myself. These guys assumed I didnt know anything about bikes and treated me as such. I will not be coming back here, even for the over priced tune up they recommend which is easily done at home.

On December 1st, I purchased a bike all in cash supposedly because the credit card system wasnt working. The owner gave me a discount because I had to walk to go pull out cash, so it seemed like a fair deal. He said the bike should be in and ready by the following Thursday and if not I would receive an update. It is January 29th and I still have not heard anything from anyone at this store. I have shown up to the store multiple times during business hours to find it closed. It has been obvious though that someone has been in the shop in between visits. I emailed and never received a response. I have called 3 dozen times, never with an answer and the voicemail box full. I even texted the phone, which finally showed as delivered the following morning. I am so upset I have not heard anything and am completely unable to find a way to get someone to respond. All I want is my bike. At this point, Im worried that it was a scam and will not ever see my money again, which was a huge purchase for me. Has this place closed down? Knowing next to nothing about bikes, I had a ton of questions. Luckily, Darrin and all of the guys down there were super helpful in giving me answers.Unfortunately, they were out of the particular color scheme I wanted, but that ended up being to my advantage, given they were awaiting a new shipment of 2014 models. I was able to place an order for a newer bike at the same price they were offering the 2013 model, and still get the sale perks they were offering at the time of purchase.Fast forward a couple weeks, and my new bike is here! They got it all put together, tuned it up just right, and hooked me up with a couple extras. I rode out of there a happy customer, and will definitely be going back there for any upgrades or customization Id like done in the future. I went into the Urban Cyclist with high hopes. I saw an ad on Craigslist for the shop and immediately went in to order a bike from the owner, Darren. My husband and I ordered the bike on a Saturday, which Darren stated would be in the following on Monday, built Tuesday, and delivered Wednesday. I was pleased with this quick turnaround he promised, and I had no reason to question it. However, I never got my bike that Wednesday. Darren called on Wednesday and said that it wasnt even in yet. I said I was a little frustrated, as he stated to us that I would have my bike by this time, and he proceeded to tell me that he never said that. Luckily my husband was with me the whole time, because he heard it too, which I communicated to Darren. Darren replied, I never said that, and I would have never have said that. AKA, telling his customer that she is a liar. I asked him, So are you telling me that I am making this up? Clearly shaken up by being caught up in his own lie, he said, Well, I never said that. You know what? Just come get your money. So thats what I did. I feel bad for him in a way, because hes obviously new to the business world. If you screwed up and told the customer the wrong date, you own that. You apologize. Thats all I wanted. But instead, I encountered a business owner who is so high on his quick-selling-$200-cruiser business that he cant fess up to his own mistakes. Maybe he will learn with time, but this was an absolutely awful experience that left me, the customer, feeling like I did something wrong and put out of my way. I had to physically go into his store for him to give me a refund; he said couldnt do it over the phone. Great business savvy, Darren and Urban Cyclist. Good luck with that.

Even with the massive amount people in the shop, the shop owner Darrin still gave me great service and was very patient in helping me out, which was a lot of patience, considering I dont know jack about bikes. Darrin is a fantastic guy and shop owner, and is definitely a reason Ive visited Urban Cyclist numerous times since. (buying misc accesories, tune ups, etc)The atmosphere in the shop is fantastic (its a super cool shop, bad ass wall and Ms. PAC MAN machine) and the stock is absolutely fantastic. I ended up getting a Zycle Fixer, which is a fantastic bike with a great price tag (mine came up to about $375 with some customization to the bike) I havent had a single issue with the bike. Its durable, looks great, and is perfect for getting around the city.

I really wish I could give less than one star. I have never had a worse experience with a business. Not only were they non-receptive to texts and phone calls, but I stopped in three times and no one was ever even near the building to assist. Doors open. No workers in sight. I would rather walk everywhere for the rest of my life than EVER be forced to buy a bike from them. Take your money elsewhere. Youll thank me for it later.

My whole bike crew is mad about this. This guy here named Derrin or Darren used direct profanity on the phone with a customer! Just order your bike from the manufacturer. Because when he fails to order your bike he will not return your money. All you can do is write a review about him cursing your family out (kids too) about not coming in his (f***ing) shop because you wanted to get a refund for a bike that was never ordered. There are news articles about how bad he does customers.

Darren and the crew hooked me up on a sick custom retrospec green and gold single speed with a gold state bicycle co crank. Had a little trouble with the first frame not fitting the seat post, but Darren was nice enough to let me ride one of his bikes for the few days I had to wait because he could tell I was itching to ride. Not only did they hook me up there, but a few weeks later when I had a tube go flat right before Denver cruisers, I called the shop and they told me not to worry that they would fix it for me outside the gin mill before cruisers started. They kept their promise and hooked it up once again. I definitely recommend this shop!

So many great local bike shops in Denver, and this is NOT one of them. Darren is a sorry excuse of a business owner, I recommend you take your hard earned cash somewhere else.Update: Thanks for the response, Kelli. Darren was given many chances to right his wrongs but continued to be extremely rude (when I could actually get in touch with him) and continued to claim I was in the wrong. And he was still big enough of a moron to try and charge me for bikes I never even received. Unfortunately whatever you are working on to make things better came too late for me and I will continue to give this shop the worst ratings possible and spread the word that it is not a shop where anyone should spend their money.

I just bought a new Throne Supreme Lo frame with carbon fiber front fork from Urban Cyclist. They built my bike last week and did an amazing job. I am extremely happy with the bike, the service, the crew, and my whole experience. I have been to other shops in Denver and have been looked down on for some reason at each and every one of them. It was like I had to prove myself to the other shops before they would talk to me. One shop looked down on me because I have a front brake on my fixie; I couldnt believe it as I have bad knees and the last thing I want to do is ride a fixie with no brake (personal preference). The crew at Urban Cyclist were extremely helpful and made me feel at home just walking in the door. They are upbeat and you can tell they are happy to be doing what they are doing. That, to me, is what gets my business. I have found my new bike shop! Thank you, Darrin, and thank you, Jason, for building my new ride!!

Despite the other reviews, I urge you to read the 1 star reviews on here, Yelp, and BBB, and AVOID!! I went through a horrible experience at the Urban Cyclist. I ride my bike ALL the time and was in desperate need of a tune-up, so I took it in. The tune-up was completed but the bike mechanics alerted me that my shifter was broken and would need to be replaced. I was assured that it would be fixed in three days max. I agreed to leave my bike at the shop and have them order the part and install it.Well, a week and a half went by and I finally got a call that my bike was ready to be picked up. When I got to the shop I saw that the same old crappy shifter was still on my bike and that the problem had not been resolved. So nothing had been done in a week and a half and no one could tell me what the heck was going on. I was NOT pleased because like I mentioned I rely heavily on my bike. The guys PROMISED that it would actually be ready the following day. It was not. I went back to the shop - my bike still had the same broken shifter and they lied and said they fixed it. They didnt. Its still janky. So I wont be coming back to this shop, and I wont recommend it either. Thanks for having me waste $100 on Lyfts and Car2gos for a week Urban Cyclist, you suck. And nice work only responding to good reviews by people who only had to deal with you on the surface level.

So Im not sure if others are like me with my buying process for what my poor but considers big ticket items, but personally there are 2 things I am religious about when it comes to making bigger buying decisions. #1 - Buying and supporting local business, and #2 - Reading reviews to get a gauge of peoples experience and overall satisfaction. Most of the time people only take the time to write a review because they are upset or to complain. Far to many times excellent customer service and great experiences are not shared and that would be a dishonor to the hard working, friendly, knowledgeable and super accommodating staff and owners at The Urban Cyclist. I am 40 years old and have spent countless amounts of money and time buying things like most have in our super consumer based capitalist home. But in all the years of spending money my experience today at Urban Cyclist stands out clearly as one of the best buying experiences of my life. Things were a little more messy than I imagine this store is normally because they are moving their storefront back to the Brighton Blvd street side of the building. I wasnt there but reading some previous reviews and being familiar with the area the times someone wasnt around during store hours I can take an educated guess that it was most likely because of street construction or the fact that the lower Rino has been losing power for hours on end due to said construction. But regardless my experience was nothing short of incredible today and I wouldnt recommend anyone go to any other bike shop in the state. Josh the bike guru who helped me was fantastic. They didnt have what I wanted and had picked out from the website and I was a little bummed and discouraged. I am travelling out of state in a few days and really wanted to have a new bike for my trip. Josh went out of his way to provide dedicated, creative and knowledgeable advice and suggestions so I could keep my money local, and not only leave satisfied but more stoked than I would of been originally. He worked in my price range and helped me piece together a custom single / fixed gear in my size (60 cause Im 64 and bigger frames seem to be a struggle for me to find), helped me create a bike that is as colorful and unique as my personality (something thats very important to me, I like to live loud and fast) and because it was my first single / fixed gear bike spent the time to go over everything I needed to know from riding technique and tips, to maintenance and care schedules, all why smiling and keeping my 70 year old father and myself entertained and engaged. If you want to get a cool urban bike that will make you feel like a rock-star, get noticed and be unique all while helping to support a local business grown and provide even more great experiences then you have only one choice: The Urban Cyclist. I know you probably could find what I got for 10 - 15% cheaper if I order it off some website, but youd making a huge mistake, especially if you are more of an amateur their advice and guidance is second to none. The whole vibe and experience, and Josh in particular represent what Colorado is and has always been about. Laid back, easy to communicate with, out door orientated vibes paired with grounded kind and unique energy. I could rave on for pages about everything that I experienced today, it was that good, but why? Stop wasting time ready my review and go check the store out. They are very low pressure, if you want to just stop by and see what made me take the time to write a review like this and make sure they were recognized thats chill too. And no I really did buy a bike today. If I didnt love cycling before this bike I sure am 100% in now. Best bike I have ever owned and first one at age 40 that was actually the correct size and set up the right way for my frame and size. It makes a difference you cant even describe. Thanks again guys, you made me the happiest guy in Denver today and a loyal die hard UCD customer 4 life.

No issues buying my bike a few months ago, staff was friendly, pretty helpful and although they didnt have all the accessorices I wanted, that was a great experience. Now I am having issues with my chain so have been wanting to take the bike in for my free tune up I was promised after a certain mileage and these guys ARE NEVER THERE! I have called, biked there, walked there, driven there over 15 times to always find the shop closed during business hours. No response to my many messages, no response to texts (which the voicemail prompts you to do instead), no communication AT ALL. Two or three days ago while driving by, I noticed the doors open but didnt have time to stop. Of course have had no luck since then so I am moving on to another shop. Ridiculous! Have some sort of explanation of what is going on! I feel so bad for the others that have their bikes locked up in there and cant get a hold of them!

Bought a bike back in september and still have not recieved it. I went in twice a day all the week to try to talk with darren (with an i) but the shop was closed during the morning and afternoon all week. I paid almost $500 dollars and it has never been ordered. I called the bike company and they confirmed it was never ordered. I also can’t cancel the charge on my credit card because he won’t answer the credit card companies phone calls and i paid majority in cash. This guy is running a con shop and i advise no one to use this place. It sucks that i can’t leave a no star review because that’s what he deserves. I’m beyond frustrated with this jackass and this shop needs to be shut down! I ALSO WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!

The Urban Cyclist has an amazing selection of bikes! Darrin is so knowledgable and passionate about bikes it is unbelievable. I researched my bike- Biria Ladies Citibike- for several months and found it here. They are located on Brighton Blvd which is under construction but it just takes a little more navigating to get to the shop. Plus they are expanding and remodeling soon! Well worth the trek!! AND Darrin and his team helped me figure out how to get the bike delivered to my house! Customer service- A+ Thank you!
