He knew we drove 2 1/2 hours due to FB stating this was the best burger in Iowa & he made that true. My wife & I will make the trip again. Next time….tenderloins!!! Go there….you will not be disappointed

My 2nd time in this place. This food is unreal. Flavor today I had a man which killer. Truly a secret restaurant in Des Moines. The food taste like it has age in a good way years of a respected craft and refined refreshing taste. This if not subway or jimmy johns this is real food.

Saw that they had the best burger in Iowa! Never heard of them, and Ive been coming to Des Moines for 15 years for Air Guard. Met the owner who was super cool and got our food. Man, that was a huge and delicious burger! Tons of selection as well! Highly recommend!

B & B. The building has served the southside for over a century. You walk in expect to be asked about yourself. Its a neighborhood place and when you walk in you are part of the neighborhood. The sandwiches are amazing. The meat counter has some options I havent found in other places.I only gave it four stars because for some people that go there they will say it looks like a hole in the wall. Go in and enjoy the staff and have one of the best 5 star sandwiches and become an honorary south sider.

I was a first time customer today, and let me tell you, B&B is the real deal.Right when I walked in, John made me feel like we’d known each other for 20 years. He showed me around, we shared stories, talked about family and food, and laughed.I went in looking for a nice cut of beef to roast for dinner. John helped me decide on a cut, and then butchered and tied it up for me. He is a master at his craft, and takes pride in everything he does.Whether I need meat for a big family meal, or I’m hungry for a sandwich, B&B is my new go-to.

A wonderful experience. Best tenderloin I know of anywhere. Lots of cool stuff to look at. Best meat selection, cut to suit you, anything you want. Super friendly local family owners, 99 years in business. Good prices too. Enjoy a fantastic lunch, then take home some great meat and cheese.

Not impressed. Bun was stale. Poor or no ventilation over them grill . It will smell on clothes . The guys act like they are rock stars ..they are too cool for everyone comes in. Weird atmosphere.

Wow!!!! What can I say???!!! Not only were the sandwiches absolutely amazing here, but the cuts of meat were fresh and of great quality. In addition, the owner, John is so friendly and helpful.As first timers to Iowa, we were incredibly impressed with the wonderful hospitality! John even gave us a couple of marrow cuts for our happy dogs.I would highly recommend this place!!!

Finally stopped in for a sammich. Absolutely love this place. Old school, cozy market. The staff was incredible. They make you feel welcome and like youre more than just a customer. Try the Dads Killer sandwich and the lemon bars. I will be back without a doubt.

We drove up from Texas to visit my wifes dad, who lives just outside the city. I saw this place online and people were saying how good the food was here, as well as their meat selection. We came in for lunch and we were not disappointed. The burger was so good! And they have these fried cheese balls that were amazing.

Ive only been there once but Ive heard they yell at customers and call them ugly over the phone, and Ive heard multiple reports of people being kicked out for wearing masks? Personally I cant embrace a business model that involves being that sensitive about everything LMAO

Absolutely amazing. The meat is without compare. The service is exceptional. I go out of my way to purchase protein here and buy what ever else on the grocery list I can bet for heading off to the big corporate stores.

This is my go to for burgers. They do a lot of different sandwiches as well... but the burger is my JaM! Double cheese, fries crispy, and burger melts in your mouth. Like $8 for a food-coma-inducing-burger that will blow your mind. Small place that’s been around longer than I have... and will be here for years to come. Stable in the community, these guys are awesome.

You know, its the people that make the business. You can buy cheap from franchise or chain stores, but the uniqueness and experience you get with b&b is like having family you never knew you had. Love the joint! Be back soon.

I am born and raised in Beaverdale and DesMoines. Age 56 and I hadn’t been to B & B Supermarket. I didn’t know Des Moines had a neighborhood butcher shop still. Let alone a shop with a passion for dry aged beef. This place is old school and too cool. John JR rolled out the red carpet and I left with some terrific meats and a grand experience. So glad a friend told me to go there. I will be back soon. I have a new butcher. Next time I have a killer sandwich too.

Great quality and super friendly and polite staff. Joe made my son feel really excited to be there and cut steaks and bacon as we ordered. Very reasonably priced as well.

I had seen this place when Andrew Zimmern visited Iowa. So I had to make my way there and try these sandwiches. As Des Moines is known for pork tenderloin, thats what I had to get. Big mistake. This was so overbreaded and hard, it was almost unedible. No amount of condiments could help this. And I get it, its an oversized sandwich. But the bun was so small, there was no place to put something on it to make it go down easier. I ate what I could, and had a ill feeling the rest of the day. All in all, dont believe the hype.

I bought a Tenderloin from the deli in here and it has got to be one of the best Ive ever had. This is a family ran establishment, and the people running it are as genuine and friendly as people come. Upon first entering the building I had wondered if this place needed condemned, but before I left I knew that it needed to be preserved. This is a true hidden gem of Des Moines. I this is my new go to place in the area.

Went there for the first time today. I had the tenderloin and my boyfriend had the Italian sausage grinder. They were both excellent! The employees were very friendly and John was very funny. I definitely recommend this place!!

Had 3 tenderloins, mushroom, hot balls, and onion rings. It tasted like old oil, and the tenderloins were supposed to be a regular and two xl tenderloins but all three were the same size. The side dishes were small and over cooked.

My boyfriend has never been here and today was the 2nd time for him and he loves the sandwiches

Bought the whole hog special. They forgot the ham and lion roasts. First guy I talked to on the phone was very rude and didnt believe me. He looked and found the ham but still no roast said he had put them in the box.. I went in to get the ham and the gentleman that helped me was very nice. He apologized and had found our roasts. He gave me 1lb. of Italian sausage for my trouble. In the end everything worked out. I would recommend checking your order before you leave.

If you want A Delicious cut of aged Beef in Des Moines this is probably the only place in town. I was running out of hope finding a sumptuous cut of Sirloin in DSM and my son-in-law mentioned B&B Grocery would be the only place. John, the Butcher cut me 4 perfect steaks about 2 Inch’s thick. They were unbelievably delicious. It is not a fancy store by any means but it has an amazing following. If you have a freezer you can be in “beef heaven” all year long.

I have been going to B & B since I could walk (since the 1960). I had my share of the excellent meat, cheese, luncheon meat, bread, killer sandwiches. Ready to cook - menu is fresh & hot. I have love the older generation- Plus John, Becky, Rose, Joey, Johnny and past & current family members & other employees. I have aways felt welcome . Very loving & caring family has aways worked at the B&B Market & have fed the community and beyond! Serve to please their customers! Congratulations & many blessing for years to come.

Ive always heard about this place, so today I checked it out. Loved it! I like the people, the old style deli/grocery store feel, the signage, everything! Everyone was friendly conversational, and helpful. I got a big meatball sub and it was fantastic!

This is the best place to get a sandwich. Been around nearly 90 years if not more. Has the old school grocery shop with fresh butcher and deli in the back. They remember you even if its been a long time between visits. Dads Killer and Zachs Killer are the two best things on the menu. Macaroni salad is amazing as well.

Best meat around.. And the sandwiches are really killer stop in for lunch and pick up steaks for dinner. You will never be disappointed coming the B&B. Hospitality, cleanliness, fast friendly service, and just the best food you can get for a great price. Its always a great day when I know Im going to B&B!

Huge and great tenderloin couldnt even finish it very good! But the service was by far the most incredible I have come upon ever! John complemented me and said he would be honored to be my butcher the whole staff was friendly the service is impeccable there. I will always eat there when in town and purchase any meats I need. Phenomenal I commend you all for the way your family treats people. I am in the service industry and it was truly refreshing to see that.
