I did the dining in the dark experience and it was fabulous! I had the seafood meal and everything was delicious. The bar tenders Emily and Pablo were very friendly and helpful. All of the staff members were professional and courteous. The atmosphere of Mastrantos is quite pleasant, with Latin music playing and warm lighting throughout. The design and decor was modern with a calming ambiance. Id love to go back for a regular dinner service!
Next time I go to Mastrantos Im bringing a date!⁕⁕SPOILERS AHEAD⁕⁕Okay with that out of the way I must say the restaurant is located in the right place. This was my first time here, and I was invited by her who will not be named.Fever sponsored a unique dining experience going on here at Mastrantos called Dining in the Dark😳😰 I will not lie this was a little weird if I wasnt invited I would not have gone, however, Im glad I went because I now know that I appreciate eating food blindfolded in the dark and only knowing what you are placing in your mouth by the parallels you can gander from the past when one would eat in the light lolDrinks were flowing, and conversations were rolling, I decided to be extra adventurous and go with the vegan option, and just to keep this spoiler-free, the vegan food is well flavored, tasty and gave me some ideas in vegan food prep. To cap it all off the dessert was to die for...Stay tuned for blurry, unfocused images coming up. I tried my best to share the experience even though I was blindfolded 😅
The ownership and staff at Mastrantos are top notch! If you want a classy night out, while feeling taken care of by family, then Mastrantos is your place. The atmosphere, and service is beyond other more expensive venues. Their explanation of the global foods they use is truly an artistic experience. Thank you to Chef Tony Castillo, sous Víctor Barrios, and the rest of the staff for this amazing, outwardly experience!
Food: A-. Some things are not meant to be together.Service: A+. everyone was so nice and helpful.Ambiance: A+. feels very European. Small but efficient.Cleanliness: A+, love the hand sanitizer at the tables!Parking: Free in the back of the buildingJust like the name, the food seems to be a mash-up of two different cultures. The green salad was the best thing Ive had in a LONG time. Id go back just for another bowl of that. The barbacoa with tzatziki was a little odd. I was totally open to it working...the barbacoa was great, the tzatziki was great. The two together were not great. Greek-zican should never become a thing.
The pros: Staff is friendly and attentive. They make their own pasta. The courses are timed to enjoy your experience. Its a new place. Interesting menu. The cons: They need an experienced bartender. Food is a bit bland (not flavorful).Ill would try it again when they are more established.
Ate here for the first time last night and I will definitely be back, the food was amazing! All the staff were so nice and helpful, especially our server Pablo! He was so knowledgeable about the menu and the different wines they have, very helpful and had the best suggestions. A rock-solid waiter! One of the greatest experiences i’ve had eating out in a long time, thank you all! Also the decor is so cute!
Fantastic venue with a soothing atmosphere to enjoy some delicious food and wine! A diverse and exquisite menu selection. The staff was enthusiastic and really focused on giving me and my party a memorable first experience. Ask for Pablo, he was an incredible server and with his great charisma has made me coming back to Mastrantos a guarantee!
> tried for the first time, after multiple recommendations. Fresh pasta was really outstanding, as both starter and mains. The other dishes and the lack of kids friendlier menu was a bit of a disappointment. The terrace and the service was really nice, although and extra heater for the table would have been nice to have. The prices were a bit to high, specially for a Italian restaurant, and we felt we could have eaten same quality food for a fraction of the price in other local restaurants. TIP: other dishes to share, so you can try more items on the menu (and probably reduce your bill!).
The place looks good and inside has a nice vibe although I hardly stepped in to the restaurant bc we dined outside. The service was good but a little slow and not up to par for the prices they are charging. The waiter was friendly but did not clear the menus nor did he clear trash from the table. There was no candle on the table nor anything to prevent us from getting eaten alive by mosquitoes either. The food was pretty terrible. We were sorely disappointed and even had to request to take back a dish even though two out of the three were bad enough to send back. The third wasnt much better but at least edible. The seafood risotto tasted fishy like the seafood was not fresh. Im shocked at how many great reviews there are. Im guessing most are paid reviews. Needless to say, we would not recommend this place and wont be going back.
Do yourself a favor and head over to this spot as quickly as you can, but make sure to call ahead for a reservation, as the restaurant is on the smaller side. It really feels like you have walked into a boutique, foreign eatery upon arrival. The staff is so kind and engaging. The food is amazing. You have to try the curried mussels, they’re downright life changing. Mastrantos is 100% my new favorite restaurant.
I came to Mastrantos for the first time. My friend told me about this place. It was the beginning of restaurant week and I was down to try some new stuff.I was greeted by amazing people at the location and everyone was respectful and welcoming. They made sure you were taken care of.The meals were amazing. I was surprised by the amazing quality and ways the food was prepared. I was 100% satisfied and it was really good portions. They explain what’s in the courses and meals and it gets you familiarized with the food.I recommend this place. This place was amazing and I would definitely come back!!!!
The food was FANTASTIC - the dishes were really innovative and super tasty!! Also very cool that you can see the food being prepared in the kitchen.
Delicious food, great service and very convenient location. The owners always been there, making sure you have great experience.Everything is fresh, also you can see how they cook everything, and that is nice. The pasta is delicious and the passion fruit croissant the best combination I’ve never had.
Amazing restaurant with amazing flavors. Came with my family for dinner and I would highly recommend it. Can’t wait to try them out for brunch.
Unique experience, outstanding quality and owner service… highly recommended for those who want to experience something special, you can go wrong with anything you choose
Had dinner here for Dining in the dark experience. It was ok. I will definitely come back to try their menu options and be able to choose what I want 😅 service and drinks were good .
If I were to sum up our experience, simply put, it was perfectly curated! The moment we walked in we were greeted by friendly staff; the place has an extremely warm and welcoming ambiance, which sets the tone for an excellent brunch or dinner. The Ragú Bolognese had tons of flavor! The pasta is made in-house so it elevates this dish to a whole new level. The tostada on the brunch menu was packed with fresh ingredients including black beans, eggs, avocado, crema and salsa- lots of great flavors!Overall this is a great restaurant and I could tell they really put attention to detail. I can’t wait to see what other dishes they bring to their already diverse menu.
A delightful dinner! The food was incredibly delicious. While the restaurant does offer meat dishes, we opted for all vegetarian items and we were beyond impressed. Everything was full of flavor, perfect textures and scrumptious. Our waitress explained different nuances about our dishes, how the pickled onions would combine with curry spice and unique deviations from typical ways the dishes are made. We loved her! We arrived early without a reservation but if youre going to go during peak hours, you might have a wait. If so, its worth the wait! Ill definitely be recommending this place and cant wait to go baaaaaaack!
First time coming to this establishment and we had a a party of 5. The servers were amazing, always attentive and making sure everything came out perfectly. The food was amazing as well, the servers recommendations were spot on. Nothing disappointing about this place. Definitely a must visit.
This place has a great setting and decor. They we’re able to accommodate our party of 12. Everyone loved the food. We ordered multiple brussels sprouts. Waitstaff were all super nice and accommodating.
The food is 5 stars. Service was great, delicious coffee. Everything was delicious. I take one star just because the servings were really tiny.
Great experience and very delicious! Get the Nonas Shoe Pasta!! 👌
Both the food, atmosphere, and staff are amazing. If you want a family feel restaurant with top notch food, look no further
Great biscuits, but completely forgot the rosemary on all our rosemary potatoes. Just bland plain potatoes served. Found it odd given the price, and no resolution offered. There were 6 of us, so a large table
Most of the Brunch Menu is SO delicious. Drinks are SUPER delicious (Passion Fruit Mojito is my fav)! Bartender Eid was so awesome and attentive. BEST RESTAURANT IN THE HEIGHTS/HOUSTON. Thank you so much! Will be back for the 3rd time soon.
Really interesting menu, everyone at the table enjoyed what they ordered. Maybe a bit pricey but overall very good.
Terrible customer service. I made a reservation for one and my baby for Mothers Day at noon. They didnt even have a place for me to sit at 12:25pm--still just waited around. I asked for a water and they said I had to wait. Ive been single parenting while my husband has been gone for 8 weeks, and even with a reservation I couldnt be seated with one year old. They had me bring my stroller because they said they didnt have a high chair available. I will be sharing this my friends who live in the heights and have children--not family friendly at all! Will never come back. Happy first Mother’s Day to me.
Weve always been fans of Mastrantos since their opening. A small venue, but an excellent menu and staff keep us coming back. You really have to appreciate their house-made pasta selection, its a restaurant where you want to try whatever it is your partner has ordered. Their liquor license was up in the air tonight, but the wine list did not disappoint. We explored the chefs table and received 2 appetizers, entree, and dessert. We were happy with each item. However, what really stood out on this occasion was the service. Despite it being 38o outside, we were very COVID cautious and wanted to eat on the patio. Mastrantos accommodated us with not one, but two patio heaters! Our server was so sweet and definitely paid attention to our needs despite having to brave the weather to check on us. Mastrantos continues to be one of my favorite restaurants and I look forward to future better-weather meals.
Since opening, Mastrantos has been our go to dinner out. The quality of ingredients (their homemade pasta for instance) going to each dish is carefully curated. Their chef does amazing things with those ingredients and plates some of the best dishes in Houston - and always has innovative and comfort food options. All this is would be more than enough to keep us coming back, but to top it off, the staff is so attentive and so caring for every guest that we feel like we are dining at home each time we go out (just no dishes afterwards!).All this is accomplished is non-pretentious atmosphere that is as appropriate for date night as it is for a family dinner. A gem not to be missed.
We met some friends at Mastrantos for dinner. We had read about the restaurant but did not know what we were missing out on. The review had not done it justice. We shared three starters - salted beets, brussel sprouts, and arugula salad. All were excellent. Two of us ordered the tri tip beef, one ordered pasta, and the ordered chicken. We all shared with consensus that every dish was outstanding. We finished with a mousse that was devine. Will definitely return soon.
We sat outside and it was great. The food was good and it was easy to order for dietary restrictions.
Nice restaurant with counter or full service options. Checked them out on Sunday when brunch was being served and tried their Tequeños, Cachitos, and their steak and eggs plate. The tequeños came in 3 and were only cheese flavored. They were brought with 2 sauces to dip them in, very delicious! Their cachitos were essentially Venezuelan style kolaches and came in bacon or ham with cheese as well as a veggie option that was also great! The steak, eggs, and potatoes were delicious as well. The steak plate was popular enough to be added to the summer menu coming soon. They had Argentinian craft beer that wasnt on the menu yet in bottles and were very good additions to their selection. One of their drafts is used for making a michelada. They have a full blown espresso machine and can make any style coffee you would see at any cafe. Overall good experience with everyone, the staff was awesome!
It’s a great experience. The ambiance is very welcoming and charming. Amazing food and service. Staff are extremely knowledgeable and make great recommendations......don’t miss to order Texqueno... extremely delicious and only at Mastrantos, my favorite place in the area!
Absolutely love this place. Came with a friend once and we shared a bunch of dishes. My favorite were the shrimp crudo and the duo ravioli. Both dishes BURSTING with flavor!! Coming back to try out the other amazing sounding dishes
Love this place! Delicious food and very good service!
Tequeños were really big and good. The passion fruit jam for the croissant was phenomenal.
Hidden gem amongst the crowded food scene in the Heights. We honestly didnt even know this place existed and found it by accident off a random Yelp list (and I havent used Yelp in a while).Off the beaten path brunch when you want something besides bacon, eggs, waffles and french toast. We will return.
My favorite place! I can’t get enough of their homemade croissants and banana bread. The staff is warm and welcoming. I highly recommend especially for brunch.
Great new place for The Heights. Great menu and overall vibe inside and out.
Me and my family love this place, food and service is outstanding. You must try the Texqueños.Update: every visit is better. Definitely is not about visiting a restaurant, it is about the experience, the combination of world flavors that you capture on every dish, glass of wine from some part of the world and the cocktails.Have you ever tried an avocado Mojito, well I have at Mastrantos and it is out of this world. You have to visit and experience this place!
There are some of us who like to order a mocktail and the staff looks at you crazy right? Not here! Nicest staff and very helpful with the menu. We had both options of the Choriza pastas. A flavor I have never had before!
Outstanding meal, very unique style and combination of flavors. The service was also very good and quick. Amazing coffee and deserts! I absolutely recommend this place.
HANDS DOWN BEST PASTA IN HOUSTON!!!!!!! CHEF VICTOR CRAFTED A CULINARY MASTERPIECE!!! We loved the atmosphere, ambiance, customer service, everything was amazing! My husband and I loved the food and the drinks, especially the coconut mojito! You all now have 2 customers for life!! Keep up the great work! -Aiyesha & Joshua
I had a vanilla latte, passionfruit filled croissant, and a berry pastry (not pictured). Each one was delicious and fresh! I was greeted by the owner Xavier when I came in and he was so kind to welcome me and explain about their concept and the menu. I am so excited to come back for dinner! Also Mari came to my table to ask about my experience welcome me to the restaurant. Such a sweet couple, I can tell they will be a great addition the neighborhood!
Save yourself the grief, everything about this place was off, from the cold potatoes without rosemary, over cooked eggs, tiny mimosa, horribly chewy waffle and it was all WAY over priced. The staff was made aware of all of our complaints but nothing was done to rectify the situation. It was one of the worst experiences Ive had in a restaurant in a very long time. I wont be back
Outstanding service and food, best pastas in town! I will definitely be back with friends/family for brunch. The owners checked on us and asked about our experience - which shows how much they care about their restaurant/product.It’s a beautiful and clean place, I felt safe during this crazy time, all employees used masks and were social distancing as well. Check them out, you wont regret it.
Food is amazing both dinner and brunch. Staff is really awesome, love this place!!
Fresh quality dishes with an upscale contemporary vibe
Favorite restaurant in Houston. Menu is super diverse and food is consistently on point. Chef Tony does a wonderful job mixing interesting flavors and cultures. The Chorizo pasta carbonara is to die for (make sure you add lime to it).
This place is a hidden gem! Food is very fresh, pasta is homemade (tastes just like the authentic Italian kind), and the owners are great people! Highly recommend!
Tried the Arepa (my favorite), the ham Kolache (cachito), and the tacos for breakfast with my wife. Truly enjoyed all the different flavors and textures and definitely appreciated the well balanced execution. These guys are definitely into something different and we are coming back for Dinner!!! The coffee was amazing too..
Great place to find delicious Venezuelan classics right in the heart of heights without having to go to Katy
The pastas are the best in town. Everything is so fresh. The service is amazing too.
In my opinion this place has the most delicious brunch in town, and fresh handmade pasta!! I recommend it!!
Amazing food experience, and Emily was very personable and knowledgeable!
The only thing missing is an exclamation mark after both “Global” and “Tastes”. Whether it’s the Mexican chorizo carbonara, or the steak and kimchi, Chef Toni doesn’t miss! It doesn’t hurt that the smiles of the owners are bigger than the restaurant itself! Highly recommended is an understatement
Loved the wine list and the eclectic menu focus on quality. 100% recommended it
Great Place for excellent Food and outstanding services I will return many times
The food was actually really good! Very flavorful, a little on the salty side but not too bad. The vibe is really nice.
Came by on a Thursday evening to have a few glasses of wine with a friend. Jamila was our server and so sweet and accommodating to our needs! The owner also checked on us throughout to ensure we we were taken care of. It was my first time and I will most definitely be back! Please give them a try if you haven’t. Also, order the TexQueños you won’t regret it!
Great dining experience...food and service were exceptional.
The only thing good was the wild mushroom risotto
The chorizo pasta is a must have and the brunch vibe is great
Love this place!
While the food alone is deserving of 5 stars, the waitstaff took our experience to a higher level. Jorge was a most hospitable waiter. He took the time to explain the very eclectic menu and he made sure that no glass went empty for our party of 6. Mastrantos was the perfect place to celebrate a birthday! This place is a must-try and a fantastic crown jewel in The Heights food scene!
Insanely good food. Fresh pastas and veggies at their best - wonderful staff and kitchen team.
Excellent food and service. Interesting fusion of many international tastes in everySingle dish. The homemade pasta was superb. Very much about getting several dishes to share and enjoy. Great atmosphere and dining experience! Great addition to the Heights!
We ordered the fajitas and lasagna for a dinner at home. It was an extraordinary experience both in flavors and the order process. I will surely return.
Ordered take out (whole roast chicken, grilled pork chops, pasta bolognese) and everything was amazing. Most importantly the kids loved it as well! Thank you for staying open and serving the community with great cooking in these tough times.
Came by on a Thursday night with a girlfriend of mine. Our server, Jamila, was a sweetheart. She was well versed on the menu and very on top of making sure we were taken care of. Be sure to try the TexQueños, they are Bomb.com!
Limited menu but a good variety of dishes and everything on it is done very well. Great atmosphere and everything is cooked fresh. They have a couple pasta dishes on the menu and it is some of the best pasta I have had in the states.
Recently went for brunch, and was extremely pleased. Everything was delicious, and the staff was great. Food was brought out for our kids ASAP, even though we didnt ask - which was greatly appreciated. Left for full and happy stomachs and will be sure to return.
Mastrantos has been my go to place during these hard times, their to go orders are the best! They have a great size so I buy different things and share with the family.
This place was truly excellent. They only have a small menu, but the food is amazing! Service is friendly, although still a bit inexperienced. Im sure with time that will get better, and it was not bothersome anyway. I would definitely recommend this place!
We always have a great time at Mastrantos. It is family owned and it feels like it. Dinner at night feels intimate, and you feel like you’re in your mom’s kitchen during brunch on Sunday morning. The staff are friendly, and Clint is a great host. The last time we were there he made us a refreshing beet-pineapple juice. The chorizo carbonara is one of our favorite dishes. We definitely recommend Mastrantos.
Loved the food and the whole atmosphere
A very nice but limited menu. They change it but the food we had was excellent. I had the pork and it was very good. My wife the red snapper and she loved it and would order it again. Chocolate mouse one of the best I have had.
Atmosphere was charming. Friendly staff and owners. Emily the bartender served me an excellent red Sangria. The carrot hummus and grilled carrot appetizer was amazing. My salmon dish was excellent . I also tasted my friends Tip TRes steak...medium rare-yum yum. For dessert: the carrot cake and peach cobbler were tasty. I can’t wait to return and try the other dishes.
They are one of my prefer options at Houston !
Excellent food, excellent service i love the homemade bolognese pasta with burrata. My wife loves the summer fruit and her secreto pork was amazing.
Great service. We came early when the restaurant was empty, so this should be a given. Food was excellent, flavorful, unique. The vibe was my favorite part.
Let me first say that the atmosphere of this place is very charming and quaint. What the scenery adds, the menu and food unfortunately lacks. The menu is extremely limited. Cocktail drinks were okay but nothing to write home about. I had the bolognese pasta, and as one reviewer wrote, it was extremely underwhelming. It was an extremely bland dish. I never use salt to season my plate but had to use salt for the first time in years just to make the plate palatable to eat. Prices were rather high for such a simple dish. I was overall very disappointed and feel that this restaurant is very overrated for what they offer.
Mastrantos is one of our favorite restaurants. From ordering to go, dining with our family or a date night, Mastrantos never disappoints. The menu is constantly updated so there is always something new to try. While the house-made pastas are delicious and well revieved, (I personally love the chorizo carbonara), we recently had the fajitas, a new menu addition. We were delighted with the authentic and fresh Mexican flavors - a welcome change from the typical Houston Tex-Mex. (We were sure to compliment it with a pitcher of sangria!)You can really feel the love and pride that goes into this restaurant. The owners and the entire restuarant staff are passionate about food and pleasing customers! Its such a great overall experience that it has become almost a weekly staple for our family.
