Best Auto is hands down the best place to take your car in Ithaca. They know their stuff when it comes to mechanics and have seen it all. They were up front with the pricing (which was very reasonable), explained the problem of my car in a way I understood, and lead me to the most affordable solution. I’d recommend them to anyone! They’re very friendly and so much fun to talk to!

Best place to go in Ithaca in my mind if you’ve got a problem with your vehicle. The guy there is knowledgeable, diagnoses the problem quickly and accurately, and never tries to overcharge you, which is not the case in some other shops. My friends and I have been there multiple times and every time we were happy with the experience.

Great father-son pair who are great at their job. Really nice and friendly too. Prices are all fair. Ive had multiple car repairs done here and never have been disappointed. Really honest too, in that theyve told me if I have a repair that could be done somewhere else cheaper and quicker. Would highly recommend for anybody looking for trustworthy mechanics.

Honest shop with good prices for quality work.

Amazing people and very thorough and great in their work, and fair in the price. My wifes car recently was making a squeaky sound. The technician drove the car and figured the issue immediately. The problem was the cars brake pads. He also was very nice with me. He is one of the most decent people I have ever seen. My wife and I have been living in Ithaca for almost six years and had always struggled finding a fair mechanic who is also good in his job. Now that at the end of this month we are leaving Ithaca to Chicago for good we found the one.

Bill promptly fixed a tire of ours when we were in a tight spot during our vacation. 20 minutes, 20 dollars later we were off on the rest of our trip. I graduated from IC in 2010 and regret that I hadnt been using this shop while living in Ithaca. Best Auto indeed!

They were absolutely fantastic!Wonderful people who cared more that I would be able to make it to my family for thanksgiving then a few dollars of extra business.I had a particularly difficult problem with accessing my starter that I couldnt solved myself and their expertise not just with car mechanics but with all things handy, were able to fix my problem for a very reasonable price.They were very friendly and helpful going above and beyond what they had to for me and Ill absolutely be returning.

New to Ithaca and tried Pattersons then Best. The guys at Best were candid, honest and extremely helpful, doing the minor repair work I needed on the spot at minimal cost. At Pattersons I was told to pay $400 and given a condescending explanation of why the repairs price was so high. No question in my mind this truly is the best auto repair option in Ithaca.

An old fashioned car garage, hidden gem in car care, Bill and his son really took care of my vehicles while I worked at Cornell. Give you a quality, straight forward assessment of your vehicle, wont try and gouge you for unneccessary repairs. Prices good and have good specials too. Easy to leave your car there and walk 5 min to Cornell. Bill has been there since July 28th, 1967, and hope he is there for a lot longer too, but I am sure his son will carry on the legacy of good quality friendly service for years to come!

This auto shop is amazing! They keep what they promised, especially if you are in an emergency! I drove over the Poconos and had a flat tire close to the Cornell campus. Switched on a spare tire and found this auto shop since it was nearby. The shop owner, Bill and Steve welcomed me and checked the availability of my tire. Since I need a Pirelli Scottozero 3 winter tire, they checked the nearby stock and it was just nothing. They ordered one from Pennsylvania and said to me that it should arrive by tomorrow noon. I kinda doubt it but have no alternatives. After I left the shop, I checked with the tire official dealers and they said it gonna take 1-2 business days. I thought what best auto promised may be uncertain, given there is another snow coming the next day. HOWEVER, Bill called me and the tire order arrived on time. They put on the tire and I was able to move on my trip. Best Auto keep the promise they made! The owner, Bill and Steve, are honest, friendly, and keeps you informed about every detail. You just feel they are very professional. Plus, this is the oldest auto shop close to Cornell, with 50years of history. Don’t be scarred away that the shop looks antique. Skill comes with age. Strongly recommend!!!

I went to this place a few years ago and they were phenomenal, honest, quick repairs and they interacted with me at each step to say should they/shouldnt they do this before charging me for it. HOWEVER, recently I went in 2013 and they had my car over a week (which is OK), but then they did ~1hr labor that they charged me over 80$ for. I understand part cost BUT 1hr labor for 82$??? Who gets paid 82$ an hour? +an alignment they outsourced for (at Pattersons for another 95$- any mechanic with a lift can align tires). A quick tune-up and check cost me over 400$ which was ridiculous. They also recently took care of my friends car charging him over 800$ and not checking with him first regarding pieces bought/changed out and they had his car 3 weeks...and it still ist running!

Im absolutely furious dealing with these jerks. I have a 22 foot short bus then broke down, and I get one tow per brake down with my AAA coverage. These turds lied to me yesterday and said it would be no problem to fix the issue. This morning the old man calls me to tell me its too tall for him to work on and I will have to have it towed elsewhere, costing me extra money on the tow and not even touching my vehicle!!! This place sucks big time!!!
