Very good experience. It was nice not having to go back and forth with a salesman. Had to buy a new battery but I knew upfront that was a possibility. Sent CM my receipt and got a check in the mail today. My car is 3 years old and looks brand new. I traded my old car for a very fair price. Not sure if I got a better deal than going through a dealer but it was a lot easier and I got the exact color, exterior and interior and options that I wanted.
I test drove some cars on a Wednesday, and asked them to transfer one from another lot so that I could test drive it the next Wednesday. They got it in early on Saturday, and then text messaged me over and over and over again begging me to come in to go ahead and test drive it- so I made a special trip, even though I didnt really have the time. And then when I got in there they wouldnt let me test drive it because my insurance card only had my husbands name on it. This was the same insurance card I used 3 days ago. I dont know why they let me test drive all those cars on Wednesday but wouldnt let me use the same one on Saturday after they pestered me to death to go in there. It absolutely makes no sense - and I am never going back to another CarMax ever again. Ill put up with a lot of things but wasting my time is not one of them! Yall can go on and just ship that Palisade back to Birmingham!
Everything from the purchase to the few items they were fixing after the purchase has be horrible. I can’t seem to get help. Everyone keeps blowing me off. I emailed the manager who has yet to call me or email me back. I have truly thought about trying out their 30 day money back guarantee. This is the 4th or 5th car I have purchased from CarMax over the years. All other experiences have been wonderful! This time, I don’t know why or what happened, but the service from purchasing to maintenance/service department has been less than acceptable. I am sad to say that I don’t think I will ever use them again.
What started off good has gone sour fast. I have been waiting for my car to be repaired for 3 weeks. No contact unless I call first. I am just plain tired of it. Customer service is basically nonexistent

JaDarrien was amazing! He was very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. He did his best to answer all of the questions my husband and I had, and was very patient throughout the buying process. When I mentioned a cosmetic defect the car had that we were buying, he offered a solution for it right away. He even arranged to have service (at no cost to us) done for a car we purchased a month prior from Carmax when we asked if there was anything we that could be done for a cosmetic defect we noticed one day after we bought that car. He even followed up with us when we brought the cars back for servicing for the aforementioned cosmetic defects. JaDarrien went above and beyond. Thank you for your help!

They’re friendly ppl. Interms of greeting. But I don’t agree with the Bank Drafts they give u to deposit into a bank. Reason being everyone (me)Persia don’t have a bank account. And I’m use to having a check that I can at least cash the very same day. Overall THATS my only disagreement with them..

So grateful to Marcus and Chris for helping me with my trade-in and making sure I drove away in a great car. First time shopping at CarMax and I’m a fan!During the pandemic, they’re using an appointment system. We didn’t know this and walked in on a busy Saturday around noon. The earliest they could fit me in for an appraisal of my trade-in and some test drives was 5:30 pm. So my husband and I browsed the lot on our own and went across the street to Jason’s Deli to eat and discuss our favorites. We returned just before 2:00 pm and asked if they could fit us in if there were any cancellations - they could and they did!!Our patience and humor - and definitely theirs, despite working under so many COVID-related constraints - made for a very enjoyable experience. They went above and beyond, even helping me get my old car off the tow dolly we’d brought it in on.I’m really happy with this experience and will likely be looking at CarMax first when it’s once again time for a new-to-me car.

It started off an great experience not a long wait, and when he was helping me it seem like i was doing it myself. We sat there bout 2 hours until i found what i want so i did and everything went through just fine. The man who was assisting me told me I can leave sense I was their so long and hes gonna call me in about an hour or two to get my card info so I waited and waited still no call from Mike. Then Monday came still no call so I called him and he said man I forgotten about you Im so so sorry an he looked it up and someones else got the truck I picked out just sad and waist of my time!!!
The Lady I Had Ms.E.Smith, she was an amazing person to work with! I had previously went in there and some things happened that left me really hopeless! But me and my significant other went back in there and gave it another try! She made things extremely easy to understand! And being that my dad wasnt a tech savvy individual she was willing to help us through the whole process! She was definitely that blessing I needed! She was able to get me and my hubby the car weve always dreamed of! She definitely is one of the kindest people in the world! If you go there DO BUSINESS WITH HER AND ONLY HER‼️👏🏾 I promise you shes worth every dime! Shes amazing person! She definitely turned a sticky situation around for me! Especially being 20 and new to all this she definitely made it easy to understand and made sure I had EVERYTHING ‼️ And KNEW everything‼️ With young people trying to get things by themselves you definitely need someone whos can and is willing to make all of this make sense! Very poor communication and customer service. I was working with Mike, we decided on a vehicle, got approval and everything. The vehicle was coming for another location, so maybe 4 days later I called to get an update on the transfer, spoke with Mike and turns out someone purchased the vehicle I was supposed to be purchasing. Mike told me they wasn’t informed of this information and had I not called for an update I wouldn’t have known. Not once did he apologize for this inconvenience. I spoke with the manager Evan, he was super nice. He informed me he never seen where a transfer was initiated but he would be able to waive $100 of a transfer fee on the transfer fee if I decided on something outside of the area, Mike told me he’d give me a call around 3pm to find another vehicle, never received a call. I emailed him, never gotten a reply. So I went back to the dealership, he avoided me the entire time. I waited in the lobby for 30 mins, not once did he acknowledge me but assisted every person after me. Communication goes a long way!

So my experience was pretty poor. I will start at the beginning. I ordered an SUV to be transferred from Birmingham to Montgomery then received a call from a CarMax employee who said they would be helping me, they proceeded to cancel my order and order the car themselves, he ran my credit and said everything was good to go. I waited about a week and finally called and was told my transfer didn’t go through because the employee didn’t complete it. I was told that not only did my transfer not go through but someone else had now transferred and purchased my vehicle. The new employee helping me tried to find a similar vehicle but could not. After a couple days of looking I found one with the same features just a different interior color. I inquired about it and was told the shipping on this one would be $599 ( first one pleas free shipping) then was told they would take care of $199 of that which to me was still not right. So I took to Twitter and someone from customer service contacted me and said a manager would call me. The next evening a manager from Virginia called and we talked and he agreed to ship the vehicle for free and that was March 9th a week goes by and it still has not shipped so I call and was told it would be 3 weeks and as unhappy as I was I said ok, 3 weeks turned into over a month and the car was finally on it’s way. I again inquired and asked would something be done for all of my inconvenience and was told the store manager would contact me. I waited and never heard from the manager at the Montgomery location, so I go the day it arrived to pick it up and still nothing from the manager. I asked her about it when I got there and she said the $599 shipping was the discount and I said no that was promised prior to being told something else would be done and she said sorry we can’t do anything else. I just wanted the car so I bought it. When I picked the car up it was not even clean and I had to spend $250 getting it detailed because the seats were so nasty ! The only shining light in the horror story was the sales person that helped me he was Amazing and also I have had to deal with Timothy in the service department and he is also amazing. These two are the only people that made this experience better. If it was not for me just really wanting this particular vehicle I would have shopped somewhere else.Scott

The CarMax experience for me was simply simple. It was quick, easy and the salesman was courteous, always concerned about sterilizing everything you might come in contact with, which is something a senior like me is concerned about. He was knowledgeable about the details of the sale and the many special options that CarMax has for car buyers. After I purchased my car, I couldnt help but think how much different the car buying experience at CarMax was compared to other dealerships i had been to. CarMax is the best!

I have a loaner due to repairs that were not fixed properly at Carmax. My vehicle has been back and forth to the Carmax service area on 5 different occasions and has yet to be properly repaired. Management called and basically threatened me to have the car back within 5 hours even though my vehicle has yet to be repaired. Their advice was for me to get a rental. If Carmax attempted to repair my vehicle but was unsuccessful, then Carmax should be responsible for making sure that I have transportation until the repairs are made properly! Do Not Shop Carmax.

My experience was great with the exception of the wait time. I was there a very very long time waiting for them to verify some information. It just took entirely too long. Other than that each person was nice and professional.

Wanted to look inside 3 cars. Was told I would have to wait an hour. There were literally 6 workers standing behind the desk talking to each other.She told me they had appointments coming. Not sure I believe this and not sure why not one of them couldnt take 5 minutes to open the doors. Never been told this at any Carmax, poorly managed.

He took me on the test drive, facilitated paperwork and a personality like no other. He was honest, followed through and was truly concerned about my car buying experience. Scott as the leader was also wonderful, just as Tabitha whose smiling and knowledgeable approach provided such comfort. Devin was also great and sealed the deal. However, I have chose to name them individually but collectively as a whole its a true representation of one word TEAM! I was pre-approved for a car but i could only apply at a store that my location said it was closer but it wasn’t. The representative got everything straightened out. I was approved for a car but they didn’t hold it for me to be transferred. I was approved for another car that I wasn’t sure about. When I got to the Montgomery, Al store I noticed another car that wasn’t pictured in my price range, so James helped me get the car I wanted with no problems. He was patient with me through the entire process and explained everything. I would recommend anyone looking for a vehicle to give CarMax a Chance. No hassle and No turn down.

I purchased a vehicle on 5/21/20 to be transferred from this location to the Richmond, VA location. I paid the transfer fee of $449. The car was never received. I was told someone canceled my transfer without my knowledge or even having the courtesy to let me know. I later found out that a sales agent at this location sold my vehicle that was supposed to be transferred to the location in Richmond. I spoke with a sales manager by the name of Chris he was very informative with the information he provided me. However, the information given does NOT excuse the fact that a vehicle I purchased and had on hold for a transfer to a specific location got sold out of that store. No one at this location wants to take responsibility for being a shady sales agent and taking a car that was out of inventory and putting it back in inventory to make an immediate sale. After speaking with management giving them the heads up about this situation due to the fact customer service couldn’t reach management at this store by phone or email. They still allowed the sale of this vehicle so their sales agent could collect the commission. I understand sales and commission I get it. But right is right and wrong is wrong. And this is 100% wrong and dishonest and puts a bad name on used car lots period. I brought a car last year at Carmax and the experience was extremely smooth here in Richmond, VA but I can see they do things a little different in Montgomery. I would avoid this store altogether and try the neighboring Birmingham location.
Family FeelLet me just say this, if you want to know what separates Carmax from the competition it’s the way they make you feel when buying a car. It doesn’t feel like a transaction it’s more of a family helping a family member feeling. I had my car transferred in and they kept me informed through the whole process. They answered any questions I needed answering and always let me know that they were here to help me. Every document that I signed they went over in detail and always encouraged me to ask questions. From the associates to the management team they are great and will go over the call of duty to help you. Thank you Montgomery Alabama for all your hard work. I appreciate it and will be buying more cars in the future from you. I’m proud to say I bought a car from Carmax!
The customer service was awesome. My salesperson was attentive and I am loving my overall experience. The only issue I had was using my debit card, but they figured that out.
I was able to browse not just the local inventory, but also their inventory at their lots all over the region. This was able to be done because of the way they set up their website. The one I wanted to test drive was in Dothan, and they sent it up to Montgomery for free. If your choice is far away, they do add a fee onto your deal to ship it. Its not a lot considering what theyre doing, but its clear when you are looking at a car how much the fee will be, if any. Anyway, I was able to get pre-approved in a fast and easy application online. The car was perfect, got here in 3 to 4 days. The folks at the dealership were great, friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. The paperwork went smoothly and I was able to complete everything including the test drive in a couple of short hours. Overall it was a very pleasant and well run experience. No bumps or surprises and the car has been cherry in the 6 weeks Ive owned it.
I purchased a 2016 Ford Escape,I didnt have it a week before I started hearing a noise on cranking the vehicle. I took it back and was told thats how the used 2016 sound know Im not a mechanic but I do know that noise doesnt suppose to come from the engine. I will be taking it back .

Gave good advice about the cars we test drove and didn’t try to talk us into something we didn’t want because it was more expensive. The financing was easy and smooth. Definitely sending everyone I know looking for a car to CarMax. After we left CarMax, we walked over to Golden Corral for dinner.
I only stopped after work to look & see what they had on lot... not to go on lot just look from gate but the security guard was SO rude & barked out that he was going to call the police on me over a loudspeaker. I could see if I crossed over their Fort Knox barricade they have around their facility but just because I parked & stood by my car it was a HUGE turn off from me ever coming back.
We started the process the first week of November and settled in on a purchase around the 16th. We felt no pressure to buy and the staff were more than accommodating. They made our car buying experience soo pleasant, from the searching phase through actually driving off the lot. I most definitely recommend CarMax for your next auto purchase.
Well, the process is fast and easy, not like the other guys! Getting through on the phone after you leave is a nightmare though. I still haven’t been able to reach the service department. All in all though, IN PERSON, it’s a lot better than the traditional dealerships! I felt like everything was up front, they weren’t trying to hide anything, and the “no hassle” deal was still $5k less than other places that I would’ve gone to just to “hassle” them down and end up paying more! The extended warranty options are a lot better and more affordable too! Just answer the phones and it would be a five star🤣

Once they sell you the car its OVER. That air of helpfulness, that A-1 customer service, you can kiss it all bye bye once the deal is done. Dont get me wrong they are the people to buy from in Montgomery if charisma and customer service need to be at the top of your list. Going in I knew they were over priced compared to the same car across town, newer year and less mileage BUT I still choose CM solely based on the customer service I received everytime I visited. But once you drive that car off the lot, the first time you try and come back for maintenance oh theyll change it up on you so fast itll make your head spin. Perfect example - Ive been trying to get my window fixed that was damaged already when I bought the car. They said oh yeah no problem just bring it back whenever you have time and well take care of you. I go in today 4 hours after dropping it off and the manager greets me. I describe the car and why Im here. He leaves me standing there and starts talking to another customer. Then he answers a phone call. Then he talks to ANOTHER customer. Then he replies to a text on his cell phone. He still hasnt passed the message on to anyone else about checking up on my car. All Im trying to find out if yall need me to come back a bit later?? A few weeks ago a tech supposedly made an appointment at the dealership to handle it but I arrived to the dealership and said appointment was never made. So Im here in the building waiting and everyone is LITERALLY ignoring me. Total 180 from the days I was here leading up to buying this car. But even with everyone acting that way Im not trying to be rude back just to get someones attention...yet. It has been some while now. I call to try and get someone in service. Mind you now Im HERE at the CarMax building just trying to get an answer on my car but everyone is choosing to pick up phone calls rather than deal with a customer actually in the store. So Ill just be the next phone call they take. When I tell the employee Im here just to check up on my car I see him actually hang up the phone on me. There wasnt much inventory however, your vehicle if choice can be shipped to Montgomery (free-$$$) depending upon its location. Kevin was my Sales Associate, super nice and friendly. Carmax store is only 2 years old with a refreshment and wait area for customers. Nice to have a Carmax in the capital city!
Refuse to simply send a carfax. Wont even respond unless you give them a phone number. And you know what that means... Endless calls. Very simple request for a carfax. Nope... Can I get your number? Nope. Ill just shop elsewhere.

Horrible customer service. Every single time I called the store ( 15+ times) no one answered. The 3 month warranty that comes with your car will be useless with them.
