Super friendly atmosphere. Free wifi and plugs for working (it doesnt get so busy so you can sit for hours). Great croissants and coffees. They also have delicious sandwiches and salads for lunch.
Americano was pretty much hot water with a few drops of espresso. Didnt even wait for me to tell him how I like mine. Not sure I will come back here. Go down the road to philz Cafe. Much better value for your buck.
This place is far from my house but soooo yummy and so worth it. They even roast their own coffee! Trust me when I say you can TASTE the difference. Dont even THINK about skipping this place
Great coffee & pastries 👌🍰😋
Warm friendly staff. Hospitable to large parties for either discussion groups or people playing games. Friendly atmosphere spreads to customers. Easy place to strike up conversation.
Love their bagels with veggies, smoothies, and coffee drinks. A cute and delicious spot!
Here you can always get a great coffee with marvelous sandwiches.Nice outdoors sitting and nice people to meet there. My place for the last 15+ years
Great coffee and good vibe.
Yummy bran muffin. Nice local cafe atmosphere. Thanks for being open on Christmas day.
What a sweet little neighborhood stop on the way back from errands. Thoroughly enjoyed my veggie bagel with accommodating service from the very thoughtful and kind man I’m guessing was the owner. First time visit and was a little confused about seating arrangement because tables outside were taken but my server made sure I was promptly taken care of. Thank you sir and hope I can visit and patronize your business again in the future.
The croissants may as well be called rocks. They’re either very stale or over baked.
Hot cocoa and great atmosphere
Mediocre bagels and coffee. Extremely rude behavior and the guy taking the order screams and when confronted blames customer as screaming. No respect for the customer.
I ordered the egg salad sandwich for lunch. Im used to other places making them good, but kinda bland, but the egg salad here was tangy and creamy and they added a generous amount of pickles to the sandwich. Everything was just right. The potato salad and cappuccino were tasty as well. Service was quick. No complaints!
I like the interior, it was the afternoon and they were out of bagels. The BLT I had was a good BLT. This is maybe the second or third time Ive been there and I usually have to remind them that I ordered a drink when they call out my food. A little slow but I like to support small business when I can. It seems like a nice study spot or for a date.
Great food & great people! Im so lucky to live close enough to walk there for a delicious omelet whenever I want.
The atmosphere is almost perfect for a cafe. With a mix of seating types and materials, visitors can choose the ambiance of their experience. Long tables for studying, leather chairs for friendly encounters, and face to face two person tables for your next venture capital meeting round out the options. Of course, the coffee is delicious, accompanied by a robust menu of food items, and complimented with the ability to purchase coffee by the pound. Grade A experience...
Friendly staff, good food and great coffee (and the coffee is roasted on-site). This coffee shop is a great place to visit both during the shelter in place era and during normal times.
Food and coffee are great. Service is good and fast. I tried their croissant breakfast and it tasted really good. There is a lot of space inside and outside for sitting. It is busy all the time, do it might not be a good place for people looking for a quiet coffee shop to work from. However, it is good for hanging out, meeting a friend, having a light breakfast with good coffee...
This place has nice antique equipment from San Francisco inside. Nice seats outside. Coffee was average. Iced Mocha not as good as Starbucks.
Friendly staff. They always wish you well. Feels like a very family oriented environment
Nice little place. Feels cozy and welcoming. Staff is friendly as well as the clients. I came in and a gentleman offered his table because the others were occupied. I got the hot chocolate with one of their hot sandwiches and it was pretty good.
Been eating/sipping here for so many years, I can’t count them! The reason? Kind, helpful, genuine and humorous people serve my family some of the best coffee, homemade pastry to die for and veggie scrambles we’ve ever had!! The best part besides all that?? Besides the fact that you WATCH the chef prepare your breakfast? Besides the fact they make you the healthiest green smoothie you’ve ever had over-the-counter? The best part is—drum roll please—IT’S NOT A CHAIN...NOT CORPORATE COFFEE On top of all that—THEY ROAST THEIR OWN BEANS—right there in the cafe, just like the old days in Palo Alto. Eat and drink at Palo Alto Cafe. PLEASE. You won’t regret it. Your taste buds will thank you. A lot.
My family and I love the Palo Alto Cafe. Everyone who works there is so nice and they really make an effort to get to know their customers. There arent many places left in Palo Alto that still have this amazing, small town, local feel. Also their scrambles are delicious (I prefer the veggie scramble) and their coffee is great too.
Great place to get together with friends to catch up. The shared long tables are awesome, and I once say with a group of strangers and participated in their conversations, and was very welcome.
Nice people, good wifi. Limited food selection but the fresh juice is wonderful. I complained that the womans bathroom light was out yesterday and it was fixed by this morning. Absolutely wonderful
I like to rate cafes by the hot chocolates they make. Palo Alto cafe has a good hot chocolate, less sweet for my taste though. This place does have an awesome old age coffee machine. This cafe is rustic at its best!
I ordered a soy latte. In addition to coffee thry have an array of pastries/ lunch and snack items. It was full of folks working on their laptops and other works. Good neighborhod atmosphere that i frequent often.
Great view, a little slow on service, a but pricey considering food quality.
Oh, please fill my cup with your deee-lish coffee!Sweet little cafe with yummy food stuff and many, many drinks to choose from. Delightful staff too ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Cafe has a home kitchen feeling, both in terms of the interior, and the food. Friendly founders are almost always at the counter. Good place to meet up with friends or grab a bite by yourself. Food is simple but satisfying. According to the displayed press clippings, it is the first cafe in Palo Alto to offer free wifi.
Great local spot
Best coffee shop in PA for digital nomads. Just dont tell anyone. 😋
We had high hopes but were sadly dissapointed. Came in on a Saturday for late breakfast. Ordered at the counter, given a number and grabbed a seat outside. Next thing we know the owner is yelling at us about how we didnt pick up our food. How were we supposed to know? Why give us a number if there is no table service?? We felt awful and didnt feel welcome for the rest of our stay. Even 5 minutes later he was still going on about it to other customers. Food was okay, average. We spotted some of their ingredients as from Costco (including mozzarella cheese that has antibiotic Natamycin in it). What a letdown!
Great place, theres so few of these kind of places around.
Peaceful place and you get to see a wide range of people coming here and working. Not as busy and bustling like most of the coffee shops. Good coffee too.
Great neighborhood place! Great coffee, tasty fresh baked pastries and bagels, super nice staff. One of my favorite places in this area.
Good atmosphere. The beef sandwich was excellent as was the potato salad that accompanied it. Good coffee.
Quaint neighborhood cafe. Great for brunch and pastries
This is a nice quiet location. The cafe is spacious. The coffee is drinkable but nothing special. The owner is not very friendly.
Best coffee shop in MidtownLove their Mexican Spicy Hot ChocolateGreat variety of pastries and sandwiches
Best coffee beans in the Bay Area. We wont buy beans anywhere else ever. Super fresh and not over roasted. This coffee house is a great hole in the wall atmosphere and really a true Palo Alto gem.
A wonderful place at any time of the day. Great breakfasts, cheerful and friendly atmosphere, and the hosts are the best! Love this cafe!
Just OK. No baristas producing authentic Italian cappuccinos to be found here unfortunately.
I really appreciated being able to hang out for a little while at a nice local establishment. I made sure to be a good customer by buying something to you drink and just hung out using the nice Wi-Fi. The staff was friendly as well as the customers. I used the bathroom and it was cleaned. All around it was a very pleasant experience and I really appreciated how nice the staff were.
A wonderful coffeeshop with great breakfast run by an extremely kind family. Love it here
Nice friendly people. Convenient location. Coffee may be better at Peers, but come here if you are in a hurry.
Nice coffee and lot of coffee, could not finish.Tuna melt was awesome! All made freshly
A bit messy but good place for quick bite.
Great neighborhood coffee shop. We need more of these!
Yesterday was my first visit, but Ive driven by often. The thing I always notice is how CROWDED (read: busy) the café is, which generally speaks well of a restaurant. When my friends and I entered, I was surprised to see no lines, so we were able to order right away. As we were only there for drinks, I wasnt able to sample anything off their food menu, but the pastries (scones, cookies) looked tasty, and their sandwiches sounded good.As to their beverages, they have an assortment of coffees (hot and cold), teas (same), smoothies, and fraps. What we had was good old iced tea. We were given a choice of with or without lemon. I opted for the lemon slice, then took my tea to the side to fix it. I was surprised to find the tea was already somewhat sweet. Usually, I need four or five stevia sweeteners, but I only needed two yellow packets. And, can I just say, that was probably the best iced tea Ive had in a LONG time? Honestly. I didnt think to ask what blend of tea or whether it was freshly brewed, but it was tasty, perfectly blended for iced tea, and the lemon slice added just that perfect spritz of citrus tang. Their tea hit the spot.As to prices, well, were talking about Palo Alto, so prices are usually higher than in, say, Mt. View, but you have to remember: Palo Alto rent is NO joke, so prices will be higher to accommodate skyrocketing city rent. As it was, for us, three iced teas (not terribly large, just average) cost, total, $8.99. So, three bucks for an average-sized iced tea? Well, I wouldnt make a habit out of it, but once in a while--absolutely because, as I said, it was GOOD tea.As to the service: quick, friendly, and with a smile. Ive worked in such an environment before. As packed as it was, staff is usually flagging, having dealt with all sorts of customers (generally rude, dissatisfied, and in a hurry), but the woman who greeted us (didnt catch her name) had a big smile on her face when she greeted us. She gave us a moment to decide, took our orders, asked if we wanted lemon, quickly whipped up our teas, and served us, directing us to the straws and sweeteners. All in all, it was a good first visit, and I was satisfied with everything, start to finish. Even just sitting outside to enjoy our teas over conversation was pleasant. My only criticism would be with the straws. They utilize the paper straws, which, to me, are laughably absurd because they force you to drink quickly lest your straw get soggy and unable to last for any duration. Which, unfortunately, was what happened to me: I wanted to drink at a leisurely pace and was met with a soggy straw that wouldnt allow me to finish my drink unless I opened the lid and drank without it, which is what I was forced to do. I prefer drinking from a straw but had no other option since I wanted to finish my beverage.Still, good visit. I recommend this café and look forward to returning.
Love the bagels and sandwiches here. The fresh juices are great. I would skip the chai.
Super declicious cream cheese bagel. Out of this world not kidding
Best Cafe in town! I have been coming since i was a small boy. Try the breakfast veggie scramble.
Excellent coffee and the food is always high quality
Very nice atmosphere and one of the best chai lattes on the peninsula. I only wish there were more seating options with leg room.
Great place to hang out, hot cider is good. Service is very friendly.
A nice independent coffee shop offers variety of selections. A favorite meeting place for locals.
Nice place to sit and have your coffee or perhaps some food.
The hot roast beef sandwich was good, but the pain au chocolat was like a loaf of bread. The atmosphere is what keeps it at 3 stars. A nice place to sit inside or outside.
My familys favorite cafe! I love the egg salad sandwiches on French bread
Out of the way coffee shop with a very relaxed vibe. if you like dana st roasting in mountain view, you might like this as well. it has really craptastic wifi!
Good veggie scramble, and Panini too. Fresh OJ is awesome too. Nice breakfast joint.
Good coffee pricey cakes
OK, why would I give the Palo Alto Cafe 5 stars? I mean coffee is coffee right? Sure. And coffee taste is an individual thing. At PA Cafe the roasts tend to be on the dark side. I like that. Maybe you will too. In fact, I really like the decaf as they manage to make a very full bodied and flavorful one. Not everyone does (Starbucks decaf is sorta yuck I think). But I dont give the 5 stars just for the coffee. The service here is also good with regulars always working the bar. I like how they do a latte, just the right amount of foam (ok thats also individual preference) and not to hot (ditto). They are also agreeable to making your order the way YOU want it - half calf, non-fat latte for me.The reason I give PA Cafe 5 stars is for the neighborhood ambiance. In my experience there is no where else in the PA, MP, MV area where you find locals who happily greet one another (and you after a few visits), are eager to chat, may read you some poetry, or ask about your family and are actually interested. Its a home away from home. Compare this to the uppity scene at most mid-penn places (Borrone for instance) and you will see why the PA Cafe is special and worthy of 5 stars. On the other hand, if you dont care about that sort of thing, then you will find the same faceless experience at the nearby Starbucks that you do at any Starbucks anywhere in the world. To each their own, eh?
The coffee is great and the decor is nice, but the service isnt super friendly and the internet is poor. If you dont care about having internet connection, its a good choice.
Cozy local cafe, nice fresh food.
Always a great experience and the best coffee in the bay area.
Good amount of food, good for lunch and brunch. Service can be a little slow
Its ok. The service and prices are decent, the clientel is usually pretty rude.
I walked in here and the first thing I noticed was the dimly lit room and improperly clean surfaces. Felt like I walked into a 90s sitcom gone wrong. Dont even get me started on the coffee
Breakfast croissant with the best fresh squeezed orange juice in town. This is one of our go-to places in Palo Alto.
Fresh roasted coffee on site
Looks like it would be a nice place to study. Its got lots of tables and plenty of food and drink options. Its cash only, though, which is inconvenient.
Very good coffee! Its harder to find a table if you are in party of more than 2..
Roast beef sandwich (/^▽^)/
Very good potato salad, tasty coffee.
Great place to work and/or have coffee and lunch
Excellent coffee! Nice people!
Nice ambience and friendly staff.
Good Americano, good service, fast enough internet, clean

Nice coffee place, charming
Best grilled chicken sandwich!
Delicious with friendly staff!
I like their sandwitches and you can sit outside.
A landmark of Midtown. Coffee is roasted on site twice a week.
Great breakfast
Acoustics at horrible, no high chairs, below average experience.
Can sit outside
