I will not be returning to this office. The doctor was cold and rude to his own staff and the entire operation is misleading. I was told when I was leaving that my contact prescription was not ready and to call back in a few days to let them know how the contacts worked and to get my prescription. Clearly it was just a way to try to force me to purchase the contacts they get kick backs from. I was early for my appointment as requested and still had to wait before being seen, then wait for the doctor. My exam took all of about 15 minutes then my eyes were dilated and I was escorted to the waiting room to wait for my eyes to adjust. I was waiting at least 20 minutes for this. And after my phone call this afternoon with the office I was very upset at how manipulative their system is and at the end of the conversation after I had to demand my contact prescription that I paid for, I was hung up on. How unprofessional! And I understand I signed documents but if there is an expectation that a patient may need to return maybe they should mention that.

I’m new to the local community, and I walked in for help as I had broken my reading glasses frame. The lenses were only a few months olds, so I found the same frame online, but needed the lenses moved to the new frame. I walked into Avant Garde Eye Care and met with Robin. She moved the lenses into the new frame and had me on my way in a matter of minutes. Truly awesome service! Thanks - I’ll be back!

Excellent experience. Needed four people to be seen, made appointments. The receptionist called the insurance company to verify insurance because I could not read the card correctly (lol). We got set appointments, not all on the same day. This was fine, since I was asking for appointments asap. I called on Tuesday 7/27/21 and they got us in on Wednesday 7/28/Thursday 7/29. Luckily, they called the morning of 7/28 and said they could fit all four in at the same time. Good for us! We arrived, I had to fill out paperwork. They all were friendly and helped me fill out that dreaded paperwork (lol). We all did our eye exams and got dilated. The staff was friendly, the doctor was nice and knowledgeable. He explained everything and asked if I had any questions. I was getting set up with contacts, however I do have to go back for frames. I was not able to see frames at that point because of the dilation and sitting with my kids during their exams. The whole staff was friendly and helpful with my family. They explained everything we needed and helped my husband and daughter pick out frames (that she loves), while I was in the eye exam room. I have been going to eye care places for over 20 years. The office was clean, staff was friendly, and everything was explained in full from the services we received to the cost of the visit. I definitely, will be going back to continue eye care service here and I do recommend this place.

I found this office through my insurance, called to make an appointment and was told they dont accept my insurance . I explained that I was referred to them directly from my insurance, the receptionist then looked up my insurance acknowledge that they accepted my insurance and set an appointment . A day before my appointment the receptionist called to tell me that I dont have vision coverage I explained that I most certainly do she explained to me that she called my insurance company and couldnt figure out what my coverage was. She acknowledge that she was in training, but after going round and round with her I asked to speak to someone else she told me she had been doing this for 20 years and refused to let me talk to anyone else. I did call my insurance company to verify, they read to me the notes of her call and explained that it was a standard authorization and that I have full coverage and have met my deductible for the year. its hard to believe the doctor is good if the receptionist fails to provide any customer service. I would give them zero stars

We will never come back here again. The doctor did not the time to really assess my daughter. The entire appointment took about 15 minutes and everything he said about her was not true. She doesnt need glasses because we took her someplace else. He didnt even care to learn about my daughters vision disorder to see if that could be bothering her eyes and brushed it off. Waste of time.

Worst eye care I have ever visited. Terrible staff and doctor. They dont care about patients, never listen anything and they dont even bother about your concerns and also they dont explain anything. Will never visit again. if you really want to waste your time just visit this Eye care.

I purchased glasses and sunglasses from them a few years ago and had a pleasant experience. Not this time. Woman working in the front while I was there was very unfriendly. Went in to try on some frames and make an appointment for an eye exam and instead, walked out. I wont give them my money again.

The front of the exterior shows glasses brands not featured at this business. That is just the first disappointing thing a customer is about to experience when selecting this business for replacement glasses. Other affronts include randomly being bypassed while waiting in line, very long lead-time for glasses (2+ weeks in my case; twice). I also had to pay (?) to have my warranty honored. I dont know if that last practice is common by other businesses, but regardless, for shame: Ive already paid for the warranty when I bought the glasses!Now good experiences: Depending on the front staff you get, they can be pleasant enough. The optometrist was good, and there are no complaints there. Some of these issues may not necessarily be fault of the service staff, but they lend to an overall lukewarm experience, at best.

Scheduled an appointment two weeks ago. Received and printed out new patient paperwork which I completed. As instructed I arrived 10 minutes early, wearing my mask and completed paperwork In hand. Go to check in only to be told my appointment was cancelled. Why? They called and left a vm on Friday to confirm appointment and I didn’t confirm. Pulled up my vm list and no vm. Pulled up my deleted vm list and again no vm from this practice. They had given my appointment to someone else. Would I like to reschedule. Hell no. If I needed to cancel or reschedule I would have given them the respect of a phone call and done so. I was not shown the same respect and they showed me how greedy they are so I have taken my business elsewhere. I have also contacted my insurance carrier and filed a complaint. This place has truly showed their true colors. My time is important too and they have no respect for me or any of their patients.

Dr Stewart provided an excellent exam, therefore a great rating. The front desk staff is welcoming and polite. Gabby providing eye glass fitting is highly sarcastic and has a inability to listen to a customer will prevent me from buying any future eye glasses there. Kindness goes a long way.

I visited Avant-Garde in 2013 and 2015 and can truly say that Dr Stewart is one of the best Optometrists that I have ever had - I know what youre thinking...then why the 1 star?Well...that is because in 2015 a billing error happened between my insurance and Avant-Garde and I was sent to collections over it. When this was brought to my attention I called my insurance who stated that there was an error and got my insurance in contact with Avant-Garde to resolve it. I was told that the error was being corrected and that they have to rebill the 2015 amount and then remove the collection piece.In the meantime, I needed to be seen with my 2017 benefits coming a couple days from expiring. However, even though the issue is between Avant-Garde and my insurance AND is being resolved - I was told that I could not be seen until everything is resolved. Really?! The mistake isnt mine...but I cant be seen? I was told this was a direct decision of Dr Stewart.Sad that I lose a great optometrist, however I can show the new place my prescription and lenses he gave me and should be treated a lot better as a patient.

On May 19, 2015, I visited Avant Garde Eye Care office in Peoria, Arizona. I had previously seen Dr. Richard Stewart, on multiple occasions, for eye exams, but he was located in a different facility. Therefore, I located him in his new facility in Peoria, because I had been impressed with the thoroughness and precision that he had displayed in all of my previous eye exams. Once again, he was extremely thorough, very professional, very kind, very knowledgeable, and, most importantly, he took his time and did not rush me. In fact, he took the time to thoroughly discuss additional issues beyond the eye exam, such as preventative measures for protecting against macular degeneration. He has at least 20-25 years of experience in this field, so I knew that he was very knowledgeable. In addition, he displayed no high pressure sales techniques, so I left the office feeling very comfortable that, when I am ready, I can purchase eyeglasses at his office (he has a large selection) or at any location of my choice. Finally, Dr. Stewarts Avant Garde Eye Care office is a beautiful office, which is very clean and comfortable.It is also important to note that Dr. Stewart has an assistant who is very professional, very knowledgeable, very thorough, and very kind. I am sorry that I did not write her name on Dr. Stewarts business card, so I am uncertain as to her name. She was very kind when she greeted me, and she discussed various eye-related issues with me. She also performed some tests, as she, for example, tested two of my pairs of glasses to determine the prescription for each pair. She processed paperwork for my insurance, and she gave me a pleasant surprise by stating that my insurance may cover part of the eye exam, as I was previously uncertain about my insurance coverage.For the reasons stated above, I highly recommend Avant Garde Eye Care and Dr. Richard Stewart and his assistant. I will definitely go back for future eye exams. Finally, I thank Dr. Stewart and his assistant very much for all of their assistance.

Every year when its time to get new glasses and contacts, I end up going to a different doctor because Ive struggled to find an office that I was willing to visit more than once. Honestly, even with insurance, glasses and contacts together are very expensive. The good news is that I found an office that I really, truly enjoyed. Making the appointment was easy, getting my paperwork done was unexpectedly efficient, and when I arrived for my appointment there was virtually no wait time. It was glorious. Dr. Stewart was very personable and made some recommendations that I thought were not only intelligent, but show how much he cares about his patients. The office staff was so friendly and everyone who worked there seemed like they really enjoyed being in the office. When it came time to pay for contacts and glasses, a rather expensive venture, the price was really reasonable. Denise and Candis did a fantastic job explaining what my options were and helping me to make the best choices. Ive had some really poor experiences at other places in the past and have been bouncing from place to place for years, so I wasnt confident that I would find an office that I was really excited about; that is no longer the case. Ive already told my family and coworkers how great Avant Garde Eye Care is, I dont have a bad word to say about them. They have great frames, great people and great prices. Even though there are multiple providers closer to me, I am willing to make the drive if it means I get to have this experience each year. I can say with confidence that I WILL be back for my appointment at Avant Garde Eye Care next year.

I first saw Dr. Stewart 10 years ago when he was at the LensCrafters in the Arrowhead Mall.When he opened up Avant Garde Eye Care, I followed.I have gotten married recently and now my wife and step-son see him.He is THAT great.Everyone at Avant Garde is awesome. Very friendly and helpful.

Everyone at Avant Garde is friendly and helpful. Dr. Stewart has been our optometrist for over 12 years and we followed him from LensCrafter to his new location. The office personnel are always pleasant and our appointments are always ontime. Dr. Stewart is a caring professional, who makes you feel comfortable to ask questions and takes time to listen. Overall, my experience with the eye care center was good. However, I was displeased when I requested a copy of my images. Avant Garde does not provide DVDs and you must take your own DVD if you want images for your records or to provide to another doctor as needed. Most places do provide DVDs as part of good customer service.
