Whether youre an advanced player or play just-for-fun, these folks treat you the same. I am very happy with the attention to detail and quality of work that was done on my flute. I will definitely go back when its time for maintenance.
Ive done business with Carolyn Nussbaum for many years which has mainly been sending students their way for sheet music or to purchase instruments and accessories. For the first time in my career I had my Muramatsu flute overhauled with Carolyn Nussbaum and I couldnt be more pleased. As a professional flutist who performs and teaches I am very picky about who works on my instruments. When my flute came back to me I was overjoyed with the attention to detail that they had put into my instrument. My flute plays just as good if not better than the day I bought it and it has really put a new spark in my playing. Thank you so much for the great work!
Highly recommend. They have everything you want or need, and if they dont (they do) they will. Love love love.
Great selection of pre- owned flutes! Great professional help by Mary to assist us in obtaining the BEST sounding and appropriate flute for us. Thank you! Great experience!
Door locked. Employee was less than pleasant. Left and went elsewhere.
Very nice they have everything flute
My first experience with them was late summer 2019 and Ive been so happy.Initially, I purchased an old Yamaha flute at our town home community yard sale for about $15.I knew right away it would need TLC but this over 40 gal truly wanted to learn how to play flute.I knew it would be hundreds of dollars, if she could be overhauled. So, I called and spoke with Chelsea and then made the short trip to their beautiful store. She was honest right from the beginning and I really liked that so I left the Yamaha in her hands for an estimate. Now, she also suggested purchasing a new flute depending on the exact dollar amount for the Yamaha but there was never any pressure to purchase, just weighing out the options.Well, you guessed it.After the amount came back for the Yamaha and a lot of thought, I ended up buying a new Jupiter flute.I brought her home August 17th, I think it was &t hen, I couldnt stand the thought of taking her out of the case & putting a single mark on her.Which is ridiculous and I kept telling my husband I must have been crazy to buy it.Fast forward a few weeks, on my birthday in September and yes, that flute has now become my addiction.I love it!!The intent was to take lessons but 2019 ended on a weird note for us and then covid hit, so I havent even taken a lesson... yet and I still need to master reading music since Ive never had a music lesson in my life.Ive been playing around with keyboards ever since I married my husband in 2012 and hes a musician - we do have a lot of instruments in our home, LOL.I have lots of EZ play piano books and while I was waiting for the world to become normal again, Ive been teaching myself from those.Anyhow, just a few weeks ago, I picked my flute back up from her annual service and WOW!Even my untrained self knew that some things werent quite right and Chelsea took great care listening to me on the phone trying to describe the issues and making sure that when I got my flute back, that I was happy.I knew several notes werent quite sounding right and I could never get them to match on the tuner and just WOW - right away I was so excited to see and hear them match with no effort. In fact, I have to learn to hold my air stream back now or else Im getting over-blow - YIKES!My flute came back looking brand new, the foot joint is no longer moving around and it just feels so light to play and the frustration that I had for about a month or so before I took her in are gone.Chelsea is wonderful, she didnt make me feel embarrassed by being such a newbie and asking questions, she made shopping for a thumb port and new cleaning items over the phone a breeze.Curbside drop off and pick up, paying over the phone - so simple.I highly recommend them for all your beginner and more advanced flute needs! And yes, if your flute hasnt been serviced for awhile - dont wait, it makes such a difference.and now, Im off for my daily practice - Happy Fluting and thanks Carolyn & store staff!
I had such a great experience working with Mary and Carolyn. They were so patient, understanding, and communicative throughout my flute trial process. I ended up purchasing the perfect flute! Would definitely come again for future purchases.
Awful communication. Dropped off a flute and piccolo for selling. Was told it had to be looked at by Carolyn. Thats fine. After almost 3 weeks and multiple email attempts, I only ever heard asking what I would like for the items and Ill get back to you in 2 days. After 9 days from stating it would be 2 days, I had made 2-3 additional attempts at contact. Never heard another word from her even after expressing dissatisfaction in communication. When I called to notify I would just pick the items up, the worker stated I am sorry you havent gotten our messages for offers. There were never messages, its not that I never received them. Extremely poor communication and disappointed that this is how it was handled.
We had a very positive experience visiting Carolyn Nussbaum Music Company. My daughters flute needed a complete COA and Chelsea was the perfect repair tech. My daughters music teacher suggested Carolyns store and we couldnt be more pleased. We dropped off Abbeys flute and asked to look at the next level of flutes. Carole took over an hour and a half working with Abbey to find the best flute for her. When we returned to pick up her flute, Patti helped us look at a used flute and gave us invaluable advice on the care of a flute. We will definitely be buying our next flute from Carolyn.
I had a very sentimental vintage flute that I wanted to restore to playing condition and a headjoint that I loved that didn’t fit on the older flute. I had heard this shop might be pricey and waitlists might be lengthy and that they might not be willing to work on an older flute. But that was not my experience at all!!! After two shops said fitting my headjoint to my flute was not possible, and gave me quotes on restoring my flute, I decided to just try Carolyn Nussbaum and see if they felt the same. I explained my situation with my Heritage flute and my Brennan-Cooper headjoint that did not fit on it. Chelsey performed the COA on my beloved flute and custom fit the headjoint and Carolyn did a few last tweaks after I played it for a couple of days (just personal preference adjustments, nothing was wrong) and the total price was less than what I had been quoted at two other shops AND included the headjoint fitting, and some accessories I purchased. Chelsey even custom fit two Plug-O’s into two of my keys (I have short ring fingers). I have little to no knowledge of flute maintenance and repair and they indulged my every question and both are so knowledgeable and helpful. I have a few more things I want to get done when I am due for a full overhaul and they gave me estimated costs and repair times so I could plan accordingly. Everyone I encountered here was just so awesome. I will never take my flute to another shop!!!
This is a great place to buy a flute, flute music and flute accessories. They even have a few pieces of flute art for sale at the moment. My family has bought beginning and intermediate flutes here and they were helpful and patient with our choosing within our price range each time. Its also a great place for annual flute maintenance (youll need an appointment for this) or even for emergency repairs on short notice.
Came in just to try flutes and scheduled an appointment about an hour before closing. We were a little late but they let us stay after closing. I asked to try around 8 flutes and they brought the 8 I had asked for plus some others they suggested that I didnt think of before. I worked with Patti and she was extremely helpful and kind. We played each flute and eventually came down to 3 brands. The staff are all willing to work with you and dont pressure sales on you. They just want the best for you. I am not from the Dallas area and I just happened to visit here for a day. I highly recommend here for any flute needs if you live in Texas or out of state!
Excellent service from all employees and it is always great to get to see and speak with Carolyn. It doesnt matter whether you are coming in to make a large or small purchase or whether you are a professional or a student, all the workers are very welcoming and truly listen to their customers needs and questions! There are no high pressure sales tactics and Carolyn will tell you like it is such as whether it is worth it to repair an instrument or if you will be spending more than the value of the instrument or providing a suggested price range for an instrument based on the musicians abilities and future plans. When a repair is very simple they can often do it the same day and when it is a more extensive repair they get it completed in a timely manner. I have found their pricing to be very fair especially when you factor in that they specialize in flutes. For as long as my daughter plays flute, this will definitely be our go to store!
The visit was exceptional. We received the highest quality of service possible. We were recommended to come here by my daughters private lessons teacher and were not disappointed. They worked with our budget and provided multiple options. They were very thorough in helping her and us make the right choice for her to grow as a musician.
Wonderful store, the staff was extremely helpful. I really liked that there was no high pressure sales pitch the staff asked our price range and they worked with us to find the perfect flute. They also recommended useful accessories to care for and get the top performance from our new flute. They also have an extensive inventory of sheet music which was fun to look through. I highly recommend this establishment for all of your flute needs.
Exceptional customer service! Owner and staff are very kind and professional. Best experience ever! I wish I could give 11 stars.
I would rate -5 stars if allowed.RepairI sent my flute in for repair about a few months ago. We specifically discussed, as well in writing, that the C key was binding due to a post having been dented in. When I received the flute I saw that the dent was not addressed and that material was removed to free said binding key. The key action is still sluggish and the dent will always remain due to material having been removed from the instrument. As a repair tech myself, this was a much easier method of repair that saved the tech effort and has cost me a playable flute. We also discussed dents in the foot joint, none of these were addressed. 3 months after of playing the flute for no more than 3o minutes a week the flute is out of adjustment and pads are unleveled. (4 pads were replaced meaning that there is a mix of new and old broken down pads on the horn causing an imbalance of pressure. I use the flute for physical and cognitive therapy it is unreasonable to think that that amount of playing would cause the flute to become unplayable after 3 months a just blowing air through it.Carolyn NussbaumI met Carolyn at a flute convention and tried to approach her to thank her for something she had sent me and was completely snubbed by her. She never once made eye contact with me, she kept talking over me to other attendees, and had the general affect of Yeah, whadda want? I hadnt completed a single sentence before she just walked off.My dealings with this company and Carolyn have left me not with a feeling that these are terrible people to work with, but that I am the terrible person, a person who wasnt worth their business and deserved to be lied to.
Very helpful and friendly. Came in for a fix on my daughters flute and they gave her some great tips and tricks on how best to assemble the flute and also with her posture.
I recently purchased a new flute from Carolyns and received top notch service. Patti was extremely knowledgeable and helpful in selecting my flute and gave me plenty of space and time to think things through. My flute is beautiful, unique and worth every penny! Carolyns shop is also full of the best flute accessories and she has quite a selection of sheet music. Love this shop and the people in it!
I use this company for flute maintenance, music shopping leisure, and instrument purchases. Everything I have gotten from them has been top notch. Prices are fair, staff is helpful and very knowledgeable, and they have a good business model. Would recommend.
Mary and Chelsea were so patient with me during my month-long process of trialing flutes to find my perfect match.I was also working one other major flute dealer in NY, but I decided to buy from Carolyn Nussbaum because of the differentiating top level service, immense patience, and expert consultation during the trials. I trialed at least four different flutes and 4-5 different headjoints, and I never felt rushed or pressured to buy. On top of that, when I asked to have additional trial flutes shipped, Carolyn Nussbaum let me hold onto the first few flutes so that I could conduct a fair side-by-side trial. I am forever thankful and could not recommend Carolyn Nussbaum more.
Excellent seller. They could find a flute Yamaha, which many other places could not. Also, I asked them to be delivered on specific dates, since I would be traveling in the US, and they did it without problems. It really was an excellent service.
Excellent personal service. Flute specialist and experts. High demand for scheduling service and repairs but great response in emergency situations when you walk-in!
Terrible location. Okay service. I went in to buy a flute case and wanted to look around but I didnt feel welcome. I felt the young lady was annoyed that we were there so I just bought the case. When I was paying she asked for my personal information. I followed up with asking why she needed all of it and she said, I dont know. Really? Oh well. It was probably an off day for both of us.
I sent them a Powell flute to possibly consign. Prior to sending, I had it inspected for any issues, locally. It needed a pad. I just received a phone call from Carolyn that it needs a $1650 overhaul! It’s a mint 14k aurumite. She kept comparing it to a used car?! I’m not interested in being overcharged for unnecessary work.
Great experience shopping for a flute. I ended up buying one while here and putting my old one up for consignment. Everyone here is very friendly and knowledgeable.
Service is extremely good. I came in once just to buy a flute solo book (L. Boccherini Concerto in D Major if you were wondering) and I noticed that they had alto flutes our on display. I was curious so I asked if I could try one out. The person there, knowing full well that I was not going to buy it, still allowed me to try it out as she understood my curiosity. Very kind staff, doesn’t pressure you to buy anything. It’s a little bit hard to find, but it’s worth the search. They gave flute supplies, piccolos, flutes, music, and a great staff. What’s not to love!
We have been visiting since my daughter started playing flute 7 years ago. Wonderful customer service and they are always so helpful if we pop in for a quick repair, like today, or if we are dropping off her flutes for cleaning.
Great selection. Repair estimate was exorbitant. Being a saxophonist for years I have a frame of reference to approximate what the cost should be. Her estimate was more than twice. May very well be the place to purchase a flute but there are other skilled repair technicians more reasonably priced.
Great employees, terrible owner. I called ahead to make sure the owner is there and available to consign a flute. I waited for 40 minutes until the owner met me, she didn’t apologize for the long wait; or even have a smile, very rude. Then she tells me she wants $65 for a little pad; and $350 to do the reconditioning warranty for a flute that has been reconditioned last week. She even said it looks reconditioned, but it’s her policy to screw people over with $350 charges. Very opportunistic and dirty business. When she told me all of those charges, I was astonished. A flute that’s worth around $3,200-$3,500 was going to be only $2,000 after commission and those bogus charges. Avoid at all costs, and go to a place where you’ll be greeted with a smile, they won’t screw you over, and they’ll be happy to do business.Another thing, my partner was looking into a Brannen brothers flute, and their price (Carolyn) was almost $2,000 more than the $13,000 price tag at Brannen (directly from the manufacturer in Boston), not just that, Brannon give my partner the high-end case and made the flute custom, when Carolyn includes the generic cheap case. The reason that this is important, is that the more expensive case is worth around $400, so Carolyn wont even give the customers the nice case that they deserve, so she can make even more one. So simply put, buy the flute directly from the manufacturer. They’ll treat you very well, give you a better price, and treat you like royalty. Very bad business.
THE place to go for all things “flute”. They have a piano lessons room as well with the amazing Steve Stroud teaching they keys. Expansion and renovations are looking great, can’t wait to see the recital room!
My childs flute teacher told me about this store. Carolyn provides a good service whether or not you need to buy an instrument or have repairs.
Every time I go in to the store or see Carolyn and company at shows, I have been given impeccable service. Every employee is knowledgeable, helpful, and sincerely invested in finding the right solution to whatever problem I present. I was anxious to purchase my new flute after saving for many years, but finding my dream flute was relaxing and even fun with Carolyn! They have every accessory and sheet music I could ever want, and the repair department is unparalleled. I have never had a problem with any work done on my instruments. I will only send my flutes to CNMC! This company cares about their customers, and it shows in every department.
Ive been a customer since 2004 and have always been fully satisfied with Carolyn Nussbaum Music Company.Ive purchased two flutes here, and on both occasions I was able to try out a large range of options (with no pressure to buy). Stellar repair shop. Knowledgeable, professional staff.
Very helpful in helping me pick out the best alto flute for my situation. They set it up to perfection - no adjustments needed upon arrival. I would not hesitate to do business with them again.
I could only select five stars, but this is a ten star service, shop, and staff! I had my Muramatsu DS COAd earlier this year. It developed some issues on the right hand keys about a month ago (probably due to my aggressive playing). Chelsey took it right to the bench and fixed it while I shopped. The repairs were even covered under the COA warranty! There were several issues (pad needed re-seating, adjustment screw seating corks missing), and out of alignment. I was super impressed she fixed it on the spot! Carolyn Nussbaum and I had a chance to chat and catch up and talk flutes, and I came away with a cool tote back full of lots of flute goodies including a stack of new flute ensemble music for Christmas. Fantastic store, super staff and a delightful and charming owner who really cares about you as a customer. Thanks for making my day, Carolyn Nussbaum!
If you want anything flute related, you can find it here. Large selection of music, accessories and flutes. Love Carolyn! My daughter loves going just to visit with her.
I have had a Haynes thin wall flute since I was in college. Whenever it needs servicing, Carolyn Nussbaum is the only person I trust to do it right. And she has a great selection of flute music in her store at great prices. She and her staff are awesome.
The ladies were great and were so helpful with my flute purchase!! They made it easy for me to make a huge decision!
For all your flute needs! Everything you need for your flute is right here. If you or your child is interested in flute, they NEED to know about Carolyns.
I went went with my friend Anthony for a visit to try the flutes. We scheduled an appointment as that’s how they operate. They were rude once we arrived as my budget wasn’t wide. They pushed more expensive options and I didn’t appreciate it. It felt like a car dealership. There’s plenty of other music stores to check out.
Very helpful staff willing to take plenty of time to help you find the right flute.
Everything about this place was top notch. I drove over from Shreveport (three hours) just to visit this store in search of a wooden headjoint for my flute. I worked with both Patti and Carolyn. They were incredibly patient, understanding, and helpful. I probably tried a dozen headjoints before settling on one of the first ones that I played. Patti remembered which ones I really liked and helped steer me back to those. She also gave me her personal opinion about how each one sounded, which I greatly valued. Both she and Carolyn played some of the headjoints themselves to give me a different perspective of their sound. I would HIGHLY recommend this company to anyone who has any flute-related needs. They are kind, courteous, and just downright pleasant to be around. I will definitely be back! BTW, if you are making your first visit, the store is a little difficult to find--in an office park--but once you find it, youre set!
Excellent, professional service and wide range of quality products.
Always great service. Best place around for purchasing and servicing a flute.
Wonderful place to shop and well qualified sales and repair technicians.
I have been a long-distance customer for a couple of years now, ever since a local flutist pointed me to your Web site. One of my first experiences with your company was trying out head joints for a flute Id bought locally; I was thrilled at how easy it was to go through this process long-distance. I thought Id get to try out just a few, but through email communication and shipping services, I probably tried a couple dozen...and found exactly what I was looking for. You then sold my old head joint, with no effort on my part. Ive always enjoyed working with your staff on questions and such, too. Theyre very knowledgeable and speedy!Customer service is so important, and Ive very much appreciated the personal attention and quality resource youve been. Thank YOU!
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Fixed my flute and sold me a beginner flute for my daughter. Just what I needed.
Excellent work amd customer service! I bought my flute here and get it serviced here, wouldnt trust anybody else with it.
Very helpful and knowledgeable on all things flute.
Best place for Flute repairs and anything flute
They saved my tush with some out of print music, and went out of their way to make sure everything would be here in time! Thank you so much!!
Totally A+wesome service and pricing!
