I went in today with no expectations really. I am brand new bicycle rider. I havent owned a bicycle for close to 20 years, but with all of the bicycle lanes and everyone in the city riding more, I knew I had to get in on the action. When I walked in Bryce greeted me and asked me how and where Id be riding. As a short guy, it is sometimes difficult to find a bicycle which is comfortable. Bryce custom fit me into the perfect bicycle. He took the time to explain the different components and had me take it for a test ride. I was very impressed by all of the employees in the store. Everyone was very friendly. I signed up for their Performance Buyers Club program for $30 and it was WELL worth it! I earned close to $60 in rewards just for buying my bicycle. I also signed up for the Spin Doctor maintenance plan - like I said, Im a novice and I know my limitations. I am very happy with my experience and HIGHLY recommend them to anyone who is looking for a new bicycle or accessories - they have a very large accessories section in the store.

Their customer service is above and beyond. I explained to them what I did to my bicycle and their response was, bring it in at no charge and I will put your front tire back on and will show you how to do it yourself. They went the extra mile explaining to me everything that was wrong with my bike, even though the wrongs were minor, they fixed them at no charge. I appreciate their kindness and their excellent customer service. Thank you Performance Bicycle.

Recently purchased a road bike from Performance Bicycle in Pittsburgh. The bike selection was comparable to other local bike shops, but this store had more accessories. The prices were good. The customer service was excellent, the salesman, David, was very helpful and not pushy. When I took delivery I opted for the $30 custom fitting session with Josiah. He was extremely knowledgable and very thorough with the detailed walk through and fitting process. This was no eye balling the seat and sending me off. He adjusted everything meticulously using a large angle finder and plumb bob to ensure a precise fitting. This process was about an hour and I feel was well worth the $30.This store has earned my business with their great customer service and fair prices. I highly recommend.

It took me more than 10 days and 5 bike shops to choose the right bike for me. During these 10 days I visited Performance Bike on 4 occasions where different sales associates took the time to explain to me the different choices and prepared the bikes for a test ride. At no point did I feel like they were pushing me to buy without being fully informed. I am extremely pleased with the service quality.

I bought bikes for myself and my wife at a Performance Bike in VA. We have had them serviced here and have bought parts/accessories. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful regardless of how much Im planning on spending. They wont pressure you to buy the fanciest priciest product. Recently, one of their maintenance guys took the time to explain a simple repair to me, noting that buying the tool would be cheaper and quicker than waiting out the busy spring repair season.Would recommend without reservation!

I purchased a $600 bike from Performance Bicycles 8 months ago. While riding on my daily commute, a part broke off mid-stride. I took the bike into the store thinking about how lucky I was to have signed up for the bike membership that offers additional support and tuneups Surely this broken piece would be covered! When I took the bike in, not only was the staff dismissive, but they were very condescending saying that this can happen if you drop the bike a lot. Did you drop the bike a lot? After explaining that I never place the bike on its side, have never been in an accident, and that this happened while riding, they said they were unable to help as they did not have the part in stock. I asked if this would be covered by my warranty, they said they had no idea.I took my bike home and immediately contacted PB online. They said this is not covered. I asked if they stand behind the bikes they sell, and they said yes, but this is considered wear and tear. 8 months of regular wear and tear can completely destroy a bike? I think Ive been swindled.I would avoid this place like the plague. Sure, you can get a good deal on the initial cost of the bike, but you might as well be buying it from Craigslist for the amount of support and warranty you get. I would recommend shopping locally from a bike shop that cares about what it sells and will make the effort to help customers.

I purchased a bike online and had it shipped to the store. Once it came in, Alex fit me on the bike and we both agreed it was too big. They offered to order the bike in a smaller size for me and swap it out for free. Their service and bike knowledge is second to none. Big thanks to Alex, David and Scott for helping me out!

Stick with your local LBS. First its a PITA to get to unless you live downtown. Second the staff has no idea what they have in stock and dont seem terribly motivated to find out. I helped my son get a bike that was a PB only model of a GT which was specd pretty good considering the price and I am happy with what we got. The free assembly however left a lot to be desired. The handle bars spun completely around when I put some weight on them. Thank goodness I checked it out before my kid rode it or he would have gotten hurt. The shifters were sloppy and there was less than 10 PSI in each tire. I would have been much happier had I had the bike shipped to my house and I built it myself. Absolute waste of 2 hours of my life to drive there from the south hills for the free assembly. I did like the bike though. Ill not waste my time to return as I had to spend an hour going over to it make it run right. Also the employees seem to be confused as to whether there are free lifetime tuneups or you have to buy the maintenance package to get tuneups. I still dont understand what the policy is as I got 4 different answers from 4 people. Some better training and a better system of checks and balances and someone actually testing what they build and they might have a decent store... I did get a call from the store when I mentioned the poor assembly but it was totally a forced call just to put a check in the box. Looking for my next Fuji and I certainly wont buy it there. Your mileage may very.

OK, I spent about an hour talking to two salesmen there and both were incredibly helpful and knowledgable. These guys really try hard. I went in with a pretty good idea on what bike I wanted and left with something which ended up fitting my purposes a lot better. They let me test ride 4 (!) bikes. Oh, and you cant beat this place for in-store selection. I am a size 60 and they had quite a few bikes for me to test right there an then.

Ive been looking to buy a new bike since January. I stopped at Performance Bicycle on two separate occasions and each time I stepped in the store I was told someone will be with me soon. Each time I waited for 10 to 15 minutes and no one checked to see if I could be helped. So I left.I also visited Pro Bike + Run. I went to their Monroevile store, Squirrel Hill Store, and Robinson store. Each time I didnt wait more that 2 minutes to talk to someone and get some information.Performance Bicycle lost a customer because I felt like I didnt exist to them when I walked in the store. I just bought my new bike from Pro Bike + Run this past Tuesday and I am EXTREMELY satisfied. Perfo

I used to work at a Performance bike and was normally happy to bring my bike in to have it serviced (as would be w/ any shop). I sadly wont be bringing my bike in again to this store.Brought my bike in for a wheel true, derailer/cable install, and shock overhaul... Every one of these services had to be redone: Dirty Harrys for the shock, Teds Excellent Bike shop for the wheel, and myself for the derailer install. Its even possible they made the shock worse as it had more problems coming out than going in--I digress.Whats sad is i question whos fault it is, as I know the mechanics are severely overworked from under-staffing. They even seem to be on the floor as much--or more--than they are on the bikes. Looking back, I wish I looked at reviews like these or wish they would have turned down the work.

What a great shop. I shopped around for about a week all over Pittsburgh and bethel and I returned here. By far the best prices in town. I would highly recommend the performance membership for 30 dollars it by far pays for itself over and over Dave helped md out everything I needed gear wise and much and joe helped me find a bike and get it assembled. If there is one thing to take from this review go to performance bike. If you cant drive down just go online they have great sales and shipping is free if you get a couple things.

Do you like shopping at cold, big box stores like Walmart or Best Buy? Do you like to wonder aisles aimlessly until someone reluctantly asks if you need help? Do you like being treated like a child when asking tech questions to a 35 year old assclown that still lives in his moms basement and gets paid $7.50/hr to basically fix flat tires all day? Do you like getting your inbox flooded with daily spam about THE BIGGEST SALE OF THE YEAR!!!!? Do you like sitting in traffic for 45 minutes to go 7 miles to a shady part of town where you arent sure if your car will still be there when you come out? If you answered YES to any of these questions youre going to love Performance Bicycle...along with all the other east end yuppies. Im embarrassed to say I even went there but I needed a simple part quick and I thought they would have it in stock... and well they didnt. I really should have learned from my college bar days. Just because something is quick, cheap and convenient doesnt make it a good idea. Youre just going to end up with a bad taste in your mouth and a lot of shame. Pittsburgh has a number of awesome, locally owned bike shops with competitive prices and helpful staff. Support small business and check them out first.

I have been researching bikes for some time. As an avid biker, my current bike has been in need of a replacement since last summer, I knew what I was looking for and I had decided upon a short list of possibilities. I had chosen Performance Bike for their selection and location and was very excited to purchase myself a new bike now that the weather was warm again. I came to Performance Bike expecting to spend $500-$700 between the bike and the car rack, which may not have been their top sale that day but is still not a sale that the proprietor would want to lose. Unfortunately, I was deterred not only by the condition of the merchandise but more so by the poor, borderline humiliating service I experienced. The first time I arrived they were not terribly busy, but busy enough that all of their sales representatives were helping other customers, I stood around for over 20 minutes before deciding that I would run my other errands and then return later in the day. I was not at the time bothered by waiting because I could see that the salesmen were very engaged in their customers questions, they seemed very thorough and knowledgable and I was still excited about returning and receiving the same customer service that I was witnessing, to help me narrow my list to what would ultimately be my new bike. When I returned about an hour later I encountered the same situation, all sales representatives were quite busy with other guests, this time I waited another 20 minutes before my friend finally walked to the front to see if anyone could be made available to help me. When she returned With Tino I had all but made my selection, a Schwinn hybrid street bike that seemed very nice but for the fact that it had clearly been driven on a dirty path and had not been cleaned before display. When Tino arrived to help me he arrived with an audible sigh, letting me know that he was in fact not happy to serve me. He did not ask me any questions about what I was looking for, he did not ask me any questions at all, he stood silently and waited for me to allow him to leave or point to what I wanted. I eventually asked about the bike that I was most interested in, not only could he not tell me what size it was but he also did not offer to have it cleaned before I brought it home if I chose to purchase it. I was not looking for a discount on the bike, but he did tell me it had been previously bought and used and had been returned and mentioned that I might be able to get a discount from the manager, but did not take the offer any further than that. He even went so far as to say Well its going to get dirty when you ride it anyway. Well, clearly but when I buy a new bike, I expect it to be clean and new, just like when I buy a new car or new clothes or new anything. I do not expect to pay a new bike price for a used dirty bike. After the wait I went through I expected the same service I noticed everyone around me getting and instead I waited a total of nearly an hour for annoyed, unhelpful, sarcastic, rude service. I chose not to purchase a bike today and I am very disappointed. I have been looking forward to a new bike since last summer but that experience has made my desire for a bike less then my desire not to give my business to Performance Bike.

I tried to drop off a bike for some maintenance. The service desk people were rather slow being responsive to inquiries and then offered an appointment 2 weeks from now!I tried to buy another bike, knowing which one I wanted. Dont visit unless you have a bike worth thousands of dollars. They dont carry small pieces and the mechanics will opt for replacing instead of actually repairing... again just because they dont carry the small stuff. In my case it was a small bearing cover, worth $3 on ebay... the mechanic wanted to con me into replacing a hub ( which they way overprice) the saying it was broken... it wasnt... be careful and do ur research before going
