I have been a patient of Dr. Rick and The Focal Pointe for 10+ years..and I have never experienced anything less than exceptional service with every visit. The office is very clean and well-organized. Wait times have always been minimal (most recent appointment < 5 min!). Dr. Rick and his long-time technician, April, went above and beyond for me during my last visit when I made a last minute product and shipping request! Additionally, they applied a volume discount and April took extra steps to make sure I knew how to apply for product rebates. They could have easily told me not possible on my last minute request (blaming COVID like everyone else) and they did not even have to mention a volume-discount. I wouldve been none the wiser on either of these things. Along with excellent doctors, customer service is #1 here!!!

I got in to see Dr. Hamilton within 24 hours of calling to make an appointment for me and my elderly Mom! The office is clean and professional and the staff is knowledgeable and patient. Everything was explained to me remarkably well and as previously stated patiently! I love The Focal Pointe best experience I have had in a loooooong time with a new doctor.

I am not one to write bad reviews however I am going to write this review in hopes it can create change in that workplace and inform others to be mindful if they want to go here. I scheduled my appointment about a month in advance when I went with my mom they barely greeted us. During my eye exam I asked the Dr about ordering glasses online, as soon as I asked he tried to steer me away from that route and as I was leaving I asked them what is a PD = pupil distance because ordering online that information is required, the lady claimed she did not know so I asked the receptionist and she did not know either, she then proceeded to tell us to go back to the lady who I previously asked. (she actually knew which I found out the second time I went back) So I knew they wanted the money because when I asked the receptionist she said my insurance covers glasses on the wall, and to her response I said no thank you. (normally I would buy glasses from eye places but I know I can find cheaper ones elsewhere that are cute and stylish.) While my mom and I were walking back and forth from the receptionist and her colleague the receptionist made a face at us so we just left. The second time going back I asked them about the PD and all of a sudden the lady who claimed she did not know suddenly knew. To me I was like but why are you lying to me If I am paying you, and I am not being rude the least you can do is help me out and save me an extra trip. I paid for the PD and it was an additional 20 dollars which I think is silly because when I asked the first time they should have told me the price for the PD so I can pay while I was there. Instead I had to take another trip literally 2 almost 3 weeks apart because of the holidays they were closed and during that time I still did not have my information to buy my glasses online, so I am/was still wearing outdated prescriptions. I honestly feel as though they should include your PD within the eye exam and charge you a little more for a complete and thorough exam because there is no logical reason for them to be charging extra for things you need especially because not everyone is going to buy from them and or like their selection. When I finally got my glasses my prescription was not correct the Dr told me I did not need to have a prescription in my left eye and when my mom and I asked him at least 3 times if he sure he said yes as soon as i put my new glasses on I could tell I felt a little off balance and I couldnt see at all from my left eye so to anyone going I hope you are mindful that they could mess up your prescription and they arent too personable or willingly to help you if you arent spending at their place.

This place will make it as difficult as humanly possible to get your prescription if you want to buy glasses elsewhere. My wife has never had trouble getting her eye doctor to fax her prescription to Warby Parker, but Focal Pointe claimed to me that such a thing was against HIPAA, even though that is an outright lie. They just want you to come in person so they can try to sell you on glasses in store and try to set up another appointment. It shouldnt be this difficult, and I shouldnt have to take PTO off of work in order to pick up a prescription they could very easily, and legally, fax to WP. I will never be coming back and have also warded off my friends from these scam artists as well

Great doctors and staff! Everyone is friendly and professional, and clearly treat each patient as a member of their own family. We have been clients for many years, and just brought my Mom over. She is thrilled, and we appreciate their gentle and compassionate care for her. We highly recommend the Eyesite!

Do not go to this facility! The staff is rude and unprofessional, Richard Hamilton included. If you are new and unsure where to go you are unable to park in their parking lot without being yelled at and staff members to throw their hands up at you but then when you walk in to talk to the staff You are not greeted, instead you recieve an attitude by a rude receptionist who acts like she is mad at the world! I would be mad if I had to work there with these people too! I hate to know they were examining my eyes.Dont complain to Richard Hamilton on their website contact page he will tell you not to return! So much for new patients come first huh?!?

Updated. Saw them again this year. Dr Dean and his new partner are great. Very detail oriented nice guys. Reasonable prices. Great service.Great place.. Zero issues with staff.. Ive been a patient of theirs for two years.. I have impossible to find contact lenses and sure enough they were able to find a perfect match for me. I had issues with contact placement for the first six months and they were able to work with me. As far as glasses go, I did look at their selection but I have a preference for retro glasses and the staff had zero issues giving me my prescription.I cannot say enough positive things about their staff and Dr. Alan Dean.

Dr. Dean is very bright and impressive with his advanced knowledge.My wife is looking forward to getting her contact lenses from him.I am in health insurance and Dr. Dean and I advise mutual clients.He absolutely gets the highest praises from each and every person he encounters. Remarkable man.So as time goes by and my family continues to utilize Dr. Dean his staff and facility, we are always amazed at his ABOVE our expectations in care, service and knowledge, along with his remarkable personality and slick Humor. My daughter was concerned about her left eye turning in and asked to see another doctor since her current eye doctor was still trying to fix it with specialized lenses. Dr Dean did a thorough exam and recommended a surgeon. Im so grateful to him for the change in her following the operation to straighten her eyes. Such a gift that she felt more confident as she entered high school. I would trust him and his staff thoroughly with your eye health issues.

Nothing but good things to say about The Focal Pointe. I see Dr. Richard Hamilton and he does such a thorough job explaining everything. I appreciate the updated equipment they have that shows me more regarding my eye health. I do wish they had a better selection of glasses, particularly some that werent as expensive for the frames or frames that were big enough for my face. I appreciate though that the selection they do have are all nice frames and quality frames. You wont find better and as honest of service as at The Focal Pointe!

Dr Allan Dean has been my Doctor for most of 40 years. He always provides excellent service, and goes beyond the norm being responsive to the needs of patients. His office staff are also very good, especially Joelle who is a wiz with glasses. I would recommend the Focal Point for all ages. You will not be disappointed! Excellent experience, for decades.

Second Amendment: The doctor has gone through and changed his extremely rude responses he has left for me and others. Luckily, I have a few screenshots that I will add to this post. Some people have good experiences here, others have had rather horrible ones, such as myself. So when others post about the rude responses weve received from this doctor, do not be fooled by the fact someone put some sense into him and had those responses removed.First Amendment: To amend in response to the rudeness of this doctor, they should not blame their inadequacies on the vision plan. To make me sound as though I walked in and demanded something for free - ha! I live in the real world. I thought otherwise because I was told by the incompetent staff at this location that I WOULD NOT be charged on a CONDITION that I bring back the same glasses. I did as instructed and yeah, was quite surprised to find myself being charged. PLEASE ANYONE CONSIDERING THIS PLACE DO NOT GO HERE. YES, THEY ARE NICE. BUT THEY ARE NOT GOOD BUSINESS.And I do mean in-person staff nice. This doctor (clearly from the very responses he gives when people dont like his incompetent practice) is quite rude. I even thought so during my eye exam. Sorry I didnt care about seeing my eye, you simply werent the first person to ask me that and Im not as into eyes as you are.Original: I wish I could give 0 stars. For what can be done in an hour, took 3 weeks. Every time I called they told me it would be there in a few days, but it never was. Finally showed up and demanded a refund, and alas, they had my glasses, yet no one called me to tell me. I was told I didnt have to pay for an add-on if I sent the original glasses back. I did just that, but when finally received, they said I had no choice but to pay. Not even to my worst enemy would I recommend this place.

Most comprehensive eye exam I have ever had; Dr Dean made me feel like I was his only patient.Joelle was extremely helpful in selecting the best frames for my new glasses.The office staff is wonderful and always files the insurance correctly :)They do everything right, because they care!

Well I have just had my first encounter with Focal Pointe. I was referred by my long time provider who has retired. They were very friendly when I first contacted them. Their office is clean and easily accessible. Those are the good things. I had just had a new pair of glasses made in May and they broke in December while still under warranty. The Focal Pointe does not carry this brand of frames but does use this company for contact lenses. The company said they would arrange with the Focal Pointe to replace these frames if they would transfer the lenses. The Focal Pointe refused to help me. This will mean that I have to pay for a completely new pair of glasses including the lenses and the frame. This is a distressingly poor degree of customer service to show to a new client. I will be looking else where.

I have been Dr. Deans patient for over 25 years and have ALWAYS been completely satisfied with the results. His knowledge and diligence are impeccable. Moreover, the staff at the Focal Pointe are friendly, responsive to my needs, and complete their tasks with aplomb. I have recommended many friends who have been equally pleased. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Ive been seeing Dr Dean here for about 3 years and he is the best! I learned more about my eyes in the first visit with him than in the previous 30 years with other doctors. I love the fact that he has a way to examine my eyes without having to dilate them. My eyes are very light sensitive and this is just another reason that I rate Dr Dean a 5+

Dr. Dean is professional, experienced and has a great sense of humor.Icing on the cake, Dr. Dean accidentally (Im sure one of the few instances he ever makes a mistake) misquoted the price of my eye exam, but honored the quoted (lesser) price regardless.Im not one to dole out unwarranted 5 star ratings to anything/anyone, but for me, the Focal Pointes 5 star rating was earned.

I’m so happy I found this office! They have all the lastest eye equipment; Dr Falba and his entire staff are very friendly and professional. I will definitely tell all my co- workers about this hidden gem.

Went for the first time last year. Everyone was friendly but I hated the glasses, which were brown, orange and gold, because I was told that my prescription didnt come with black frames. It was a relief when I finally lost them and went back to black readers from the dollar store. A year later the front staff were okay but unable to verify the cost of my exam. Even though they werent impolite, I dont really want to have loud waiting room conversations through plate glass. Going into the exam room was when it got really bad, since the nurse was shockingly rude and condescending about explaining the components of an exam. I left without seeing the doctor. I think the unapologetic retorts from the other negative reviews speak volumes. I only bother to post because as a consumer I rely on customer reviews. I am sure the urge to snap back will be irresistible, even though Im now explicitly stating that I dont require a response. From now on Im going to start recording medical visits, and should have started doing so long ago.

Dr. Palmer and staff were awesome. They explained everything thoroughly from billing to procedures and expectations. The process was so easy and seamless. I wish more medical practices were this way. Kudos to everyone at The Focal Pointe.

Dr Hamilton was amazing. He knew exactly what was wrong with my son Jalen from the first day. He diagnosed Jalen and had him able to see within a month. There has never been a moment of concern or stress from the doctors and staff of The Focal Pointe. Everyone is pleasant, friendly, knowledgeable... more like family than a stuffy doctors office. They CARE. Exams are thorough. They dont hurry in and out of your appointment. YOU are their main concern and take the time to care for all your needs. Questions are answered professionally with more than one solution if need be. Since I have Very poor eyesight, they are the only practice I would trust my eyesight to. The Focal Pointe has fantastic service from both Dr.Hamilton and his staff. Everyone that works there is wonderful to interact with, helpful and knowledgable with any questions I had, and their equipment is top notch. I felt my eye examine was thorough, and the prices were more than fair. I would reccomend this office to anyone looking for eye care.

First, when I was at the appointment I mentioned to the eye doctor that when I look at white board with black letters that I see double. All he did was look at me then look back at the computer, ignoring me. I didn’t know if this was normal or not so I didn’t push the issue. I later looked it up and it is something that can be corrected with eye glasses and he did absolutely nothing for it! Secondly, my $10 appointment (because of my vision insurance) turned into $204 because they SAW that one of my nerves is larger than the other. Mind you, the doctor said it is most likely due the fact that I have a severe astigmatism in that eye. They didn’t do any actual testing or diagnosing, but they had to charge my medical insurance instead of my vision insurance. Thirdly, that additional testing they say I need, they can’t tell me how much it’s going to be. What do they expect, me to show up with a blank check? Sorry, I don’t have that luxury. When I told the lady at the scheduling counter that I cannot schedule it until I know how much it is, she said “well let us know if you change your mind”. Seriously?! And lastly, I had emailed them through their online appointment scheduling site to schedule to get my contact prescription because that took longer than I had anticipated (even though the lady scheduling the first appointment said the amount of time I had would be enough) and to get the cost of this service. They still have not contacted me to schedule and I emailed them on Tuesday. Not that I mind anymore because I’m not ever going back there.

I have been a patient at Focal Pointe for nine years. All my visits have been pleasant, from the check-in with a receptionist, exams with the techs, meeting with Dr. Dean discussing my eye status and the options available and the meeting with the staff who do the fitting. My visits are always a pleasant experience.

I visited this office interested in eye glasses since my friend purchased some from here and they looked nice. However the woman up front that handles the eye glasses area is rude and condescending. It’s a shame more the 1 person has pointed this out in reviews. I’m not sure who is writing under these reviews, but the tone alone shows you how unprofessional this place is. I work for a huge insurance company in Tallahassee that this provider is IN network and after expericing her attitude I will never refer consumers to this place. Oh and I’m sure after leaving this review I will also receive a rude comment which if fine. But here is a little advice, instead of spending your time typing your nasty response and giving excuses for your incompetent associate take that energy and improve on the things people are saying.

Ashley Palmer is very professional and insightful when it comes to high pressure and pre glaucoma. Shes always been very courteous and caring about my high pressure. However I wont be coming back to focal pointe again. Pattie who works in the eyeglass center was extremely rude and unprofessionally. I was not greeted by her when I approached asking for my eyeglass prescription. However she did make sure to greet an older white woman who walked in right after me. Once she was done printing my prescription I took the paper from her hand and started waking out. Then I heard her scream from across the room youre welcome at me. I didnt thank her for giving me the paper because she was rude when we initially interacted . I cant believe someone who works at this practice has such child like behavior. I then told another associate how rude she was, thats when Pattie started yelling get out to me. Ive never been treated so badly at an doctors office. I truly do like my doctor but not enough to deal with bad customer service. I do believe she felt she could disrespect me so blatantly because Im young and African American. I know she would never act that way with an older white adult. I did receive a call from Dr. Hamilton apologizing and I do appreciate that, but it doesnt remove the horrible interaction I experienced with Pattie. I know Im young but Ive been living long enough to know when someone is treating me differently because of my skin color. The Focal Pointe has amazing doctors who truly care about their patients, however this particular associate is why I will not be returning.

Dr. Dean is a great doctor, very conscientious, great eye for conditions that you might not be aware of. Calm, balanced approach to eye health. Ive been a patient for about 14 years.

I drive from Jacksonville just to see Dr. Hamilton! I have no better doctor and the Focal Pointe has been like family to me over the years. The staff is accomodating and friendly. I have specific needs with my eyes due to epilepsy and trust nobody else. Another doctor is just not an option!

After reading so many positive Google reviews of this practice, I made eye exam appointments for my husband and I.Doing business with this office was more hassle than necessary. They had poor communication, and after my husband & I had an examination the staff seemed to want to hold our eyeglass prescriptions hostage until we ordered a pair from their sales staff. We found this to be an unusual/pushy practice since using other Optometrists around town, and this made it frustrating to do business with the Focal Pointe.However, the doctor and examination staff were both pleasant and professional, which is the only reason I gave their office more than 1 star.After my eye exam the doctor walked me out to the lobby and instructed me to look at eye glasses while waiting on my husbands exam to finish. I obliged, knowing that I probably did not have the time needed to select a pair I would love because my husband had to get back to work. The younger sales woman who greeted me in the eyeglass shop was unable to answer many of the questions I asked. I did not find her to be helpful or friendly. She developed a discernible attitude, likely to cover her ineptitude, which made me less interested in looking at their inventory. As soon as my husband returned from his exam, we paid the receptionist for their services and left. When we got into our car we realized that their office DID NOT GIVE EITHER OF US OUR EYEGLASS PRESCRIPTIONS, which was the whole purpose of an eye exam!!! Thinking they must have overlooked this, I walked back into the office to ask for them. The receptionist informed me that we have to retrieve our prescriptions from their sales staff... It really would have been nice if someone advised us of this strange protocol earlier, knowing this was our first visit here! This struck me as a pushy sales tactic, but maybe this works for the majority of their clients. I walked over to the sales woman I was working with earlier and asked for our prescriptions. She insisted that my husband walk back into the store to retrieve his, because it would be a HIPAA violation for her to hand his over to me. This would require me going back out to the parking lot to call him back into the office, because I did not bring my phone or purse in with me when I returned for the prescriptions. Thankfully the other saleswoman granted permission to hand me both prescriptions after hearing my frustration over their inept business practices.We would not return to this office unless changes were made to their business practices and sales staff.

I really enjoyed my experience here at The Focal Pointe! Everyone is pleasant,especially Christina and Dr. Dean. I would highly recommend them. :-)

Lets put it this way: I fly back to Tallahassee each year just so I can continue to rely on Dr. Hamilton and the Focal Pointe team to keep my eyes healthy! The BEST!!! Wouldnt dream of going any place else!

One of the few doctors that takes the necessary time to ensure all bases are covered. His assistants are also A+.

They have an optos machine which i love. Because it means you dont have to get your eyes dialate. The doctors and the staff are always really nice. I have been coming here since i was eight and i dont plane on going anywhere else.
