Both me and my husband had the eye check up today. For my husband it was a follow up from the last as they couldn’t complete the check after dilating the eyes. At that point they scared him saying he may have glaucoma or cataract as the pressure is a little high to his eyes. Today after checking the doctor did not even speak or say anything or did not talk much about the health of eyes. The prescription for eyes which was given we took to Costco and there they informed us the previous eye prescriptions had bifocals and the prescription given by guilford eye care does not. So my husband went back to guilford eye care to have the prescription corrected, the receptionist was rude and started behaving indifferently and was very unfriendly. Had Costco not told us about the prescription mistake we would not found. I would not recommend guilford eye care. Now it makes us think if they diagnosed correctly. We are going to have the second opinion.

My mother was at the Guilford Eye Center and was treated by a young female doctor and the doctor was very disrespectful to my mother and the only thing my mother asked was what happened to my eyes and the doctor said I was going to take the tests and she said “I will let you know” which she NEVER did they kicked my mother out of the room and the doctor never came back to tell my mom what happened to her eyes. As a daughter when she said this to me I was very angry. Everyone should be treated with respect!

Most of the staff is great and very personable but I will no longer be visiting Guilford Eye Center for my vision care. Similar to previous reviews, I was informed when I made my appointment that the doctors dont wear masks for their appointments and that I would have to fill out a form specifically requesting for them to do so. This is ridiculous and unacceptable given the number of cases in our state right now, especially in a profession where such close face to face contact is unavoidable. Not to mention they are going against a state mask mandate requiring them to wear a face mask in their place of business. Ill be switching to a practice with doctors who value and respect the health and well-being of their patients.

I have gone here for 6 years and will not go back. I went in a few months ago and was not told during the 3 times I spoke with the staff on the phone or during the 2 texts they sent to confirm my appointment that the doc would not wear a mask. I was not even told when I checked in. I had to read it at the bottom of the form I filled out. This is incredibly disrespectful of my right to make an informed decision for myself based on my situation. I can not support a business that has so little regard for their clients.

My overall experience was great unfortunately it just takes one person to ruin it. I had a condition that required me to have two visits within five days. Everyone was kind and courteous but one of the optometrist I saw did not wear a face covering. He had very strong opinions against wearing any kind of face covering. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but this is a person working physically close to his/her patients in an enclosed room and is willfully defying a state mandate. Maybe once this pandemic is over, I may be able to recommend the Guilford Eye Center but as of right now, I cannot recommend this facility to anyone.

Although I had seen several bad reviews for Guilford Eye over the last several months I chose to go back for my yearly exam this year because I felt that the female doctor I had seen last year was very informative and caring . So I went to my appointment yesterday and my experience was horrible ! After my eyes were dialated and the doctor came in for my exAm I was unable to see anything at all, so they re ran a test and I was still unable to read it even see anything with the exAm. My eyes became very dry and the doctor stated that my eyes were so dry that they looked like someone had taken sand paper to them! She never addressed my issues from last year nor explain why I was unable to see . She gave me some eye drops and left the room .... the assistant walked me out and ask if the doctor gave me any instructions.... she did not!!!!!! I was taken to the desk checked out and ushered out the door without even picking any frames nor did they ask if I was okay to drive . Very disappointed in this practice and I will not be returning because at this point I feel I need to have another exam to make sure my eyes are okay ! 😡

When the front desk cant even put your name correctly on a paper then you know this is not the place for you. I will definitely be going else where. The doctor doesnt wear a mask and the staff makes it clear that he has some type of medical reason. It really blows my mind that a new business like this truly disappointed me from the beginning just how they operate things. If you would like Covid, this is the place for you! The staff is nice, but I wont be going back.

Although I have been a patient for many years and have a personal connection to the Thurmond family, I feel their refusal to wear masks while practicing in the midst of a global pandemic is dangerous and unacceptable as health care providers. Spreading misinformation online via personal social media accounts as people die daily from this disease is unacceptable at a personal level. For these reasons I have switched doctors and have no plan to return.

Everyone I interacted with was friendly, helpful and made me feel comfortable. Diagnostic testing and tech were great. All personnel wore masks, except Dr. G. Thurmond. 🤔 He did stay except to shine the light. He spent maybe 15 minutes. 🤷‍♀️

The new office is very nice and clean.The staff is friendly. HOWEVER All staff wore a mask except Dr. Thurmond (the female) which is very puzzling to me. I was told it was because she was the owner.Looking at previous posts and other reviews across multiple sites, it appears that neither Dr. Thurmond (the husband or wife) will wear a mask. In my opinion, this is negligence and carelessness for your patients.Now I’m going to be a nervous wreck for the next 7 - 10 days.I won’t be going back.

The day before the apt I was contacted to ask if I would prefer for the Dr to wear a mask because he has a medical condition that limits his ability to breathe with a mask. In normal times, I would have been okay with him not wearing a mask, but with the surging COVID rates happening right now, I barely feel comfortable enough to go to a Drs visit. I told them that I would prefer for him to wear one. They said that’s okay and it’s why they call in advanced. I get to the apt and the Dr comes into the exam room with no mask and doesn’t make any effort to make me feel comfortable. On top of this, I requested the front desk to fix the misspelling of my name and they said they could do that. Didn’t happen, left the apt with documents that still have my name spelled wrong. So between both request not being addressed and the Drs willingness to put my health at risk, I will not be going back.

I called to see if they are taking new patients. Which they are but not for the Insurance that I have, even though they take that insurance. During this pandemic it seems they only care about quick cash. This does not make sense, I thought that medical professionals are supposed to help those who are in need. And also give everybody the same treatment. The fact that a medical facility would only care about the money other than the care of the people is absolutely disgraceful. The staff is wonderful however, today I was called by a gentleman telling me my daughters glasses were ready and I politely asked him to check on my glasses and my fiancé’s glasses so that I only had to make one trip. He was nice and said sure. After being on hold for a few seconds a woman came one the phone and said harshly “IS THIS AMANDA?” I said yes, she said you just ordered your contacts on Friday so they are not in yet. Me still being polite, said no I’m checking on my glasses and she cut me off and said well we called you about Madison’s glasses. I took a deep breath and said ma’am could you please let me finish I’m calling about ......and she hung up on me. I called the office front desk and they apologized and told me that it was one of the doctors wives who doesn’t usually answer the optical line. They apologized and let me know that only my daughters glasses were in. I explained to them that after spending almost $800 in one visit we did not deserve that kind of customer service. I see if I was rude to the woman, if I was angry, or nasty, but she had no right to treat me that way nor does she have a right to hang up the phone on me. I’m really disappointed in the customer service I received today and I’m not sure if my family will be back.

Never use option #1 and leave a message in the general delivery box.. never return your call. Use option 0 to make contact. One doctorrefuses to wear a mask. Had to go to another doctor because of this. Not happy with the other doctors care or treatment.

Love the staff and doctors here! I was a devoted patient to Dr. Gene Bates and as he headed into retirement I started - reluctantly - to see the other doctors. I have a crazy schedule so I have ended up seeing all the doctors. They are all wonderful! The staff is also so understanding and just recently - without an appointment - worked me in to help me adjust the power of my contacts. I was in an out in 15 minutes and able to see my computer again! Great customer service! Highly recommend this office!!

I very much liked this eye doctor. I am relatively new to the area and needed an eye doctor in Greensboro as my home is over an hour away. I waited less than ten minutes to see someone. I have really awful anxiety, so I was pretty nervous going in. The person who helped me before Dr. Wood, I believe her name was Amanda, was incredibly understanding and kind. I loved speaking with her and she was very patient with me. She answered all the questions I had and made sure to explain each thing we were doing in detail so I knew exactly what to expect. Incredible personality! Doctor Wood was also very lovely. He was very patient with me and answered my questions thoroughly. I told him my concerns and he helped to recommend glasses that would work specifically for my needs. The woman who fit me for my frames, (I do not remember her name, but she was a little bit older and had shorter hair) was very patient with me. She understood that buying glasses is a commitment and helped me to pick out the pair that worked best for my face shape. When I checked out, there were no hidden fees and they were even willing to work with my pay schedule to get me in new glasses as soon as possible! Overall I loved the experience and definitely found my new eye doctors in Greensboro! :)

Ive been going to Guilford Eye Center for about 10 years. Dr. Wood and his staff have always provided excellent care. He is very personable and always explains his findings and assessment with me. I feel that I am very informed about my eye care when I leave the office. I go to the office twice a year and its nice to be recognized and acknowledged by the staff at the front desk. I am a health care provider myself and I would highly recommend this practice to my friends and colleagues.

I was in-town from GA on a business trip and damaged my contacts. I called Guilford Eye Center after-hours and I received a call from Leslie as soon as they opened the next morning. I was on time ( early) for my 1000 am appointment. At 1035 I walked up to the front desk and informed the front desk person that I was leaving. She attempted to schedule me for another day and I informed her that would not be necessary. I told her that I was not coming back. I had already picked out another pair of frames that were $240.00 . I was to be seen for a routine eye exam. Your office needs to realize that patients PAY the Bills there. You dont pay us ! This happened the last time I was there . I live in Mebane and took the day off of work for this appointment. So yes, I am upset to say the least . I cant be the ONLY person to have experienced this . Apologize all you want but you are losing GOOD patients .If you want to make it right then reimburse me for the day off I lost from work.

I have been a customer for almost seven years. I thought that moving to the ultra-modern built for purpose facility would result in an improvement. It has become a waste of precious time. I had an appointment, of the almost 2hours wasted there, 10minutes was spent with a nurse; the rest was just WAITING. If you have a day to waste, this is your place, otherwise, find an alternative where you get your moneys worth. Be warned !!!

Nice facility. Friendly reception and tech staff. Visit didn’t feel super rushed. I was not told about the $28 fee over the phone when making my first appointment and was not prepared for the out of pocket cost. I feel like the total should be stated upfront before the exam. I wasn’t prepared for how much money I would be spending out of pocket here. I also really did not like going into a big room with a bunch of other patients and techs for the “pre exam” and talking about my personal info (meds, weight, etc out loud) seems like a bit of a HIPPA violation to me. I really really did not like that. When the doctor came in rather then asking me is it ok for someone to shadow him he told me -this person is shadowing me-I feel like I should have had a choice (he was training someone). I also had to request a copy of my prescription before leaving. I guess the assumption was I would automatically buy products here. Again, friendly staff and lots of advances in technology but Overall really up in the air about if I’ll return to this office.

I recently moved to the area and had a difficult time finding an eye doctor I felt comfortable with. Upon a friends referral, I decided to try Guilford Eye Center. When I called to make an appointment, the staff was very friendly and helpful and scheduled me for an exam in a reasonable amount of time. Dr . Rhonda Thurmond and her staff were wonderful, professional and caring and made me feel right at home. The exam was thorough and Dr. Thurmond answered all of my questions and concerns. Ive been going to Dr. Wood for years along with my family. The staff is always nice to us and answer any questions we may have. Dr. Wood takes a lot of time answering my questions because something is always going on with my eyes. Getting glasses takes a while but thats because the choices and additional options are endless. I love their selection of glasses compared to other places. Other than the eye drops, we look forward to our exam every year.

I decided to come here instead of traveling 30 mins to my normal Kernersville Eye Doctor (Which I love - Triangle Visions Optometry check them out!). First, your told its mandatory for you to get certain test, which are optional at most eye doctors. Its the newer eye testing. I went along with it, because I really needed contacts. The first girl I sat with was so nice, I wish I knew her name. The man that ran my test, kept making fun of my glasses, which made me uncomfortable. Yes, they were bent. They are the only thing I had, so I can see. Then in the exam room, Dr. Thurman came in (female); I went to shake her hand, and I was told, I dont shake hands. I just washed my hands, and I dont want to wash them again. 2 seconds later shes touching the same keyboard that the tech was just using, and Im pretty sure there are more germs on the keyboard. She was also getting frustrated, because I kept having to stop the exam when the glass in the machine was fogging. She said, theres nothing else I can do, its already as far away from your face as possible. I never complained about the fogging, I just asked her to give me a moment, because I could see. Christina was super nice, but she did file my insurance incorrectly, I walked out owing a balance. Which I never owe more then $70 after insurance, and I had to pay this place more than that, not including my contacts. To top it off, after trying to dispute this payment, I called and paid to end this. Ann seemed like I was inconveniencing her, because I am making a payment over the phone, and Im told they can not email my my prescription, and I need to pick it up or have it mailed. Its 2018... All my other doctors email me what I need. You guys need to get it together!!! This place seriously stressed me out, and I will never come back for services again. I already filed a complaint with my insurance.

Dr. Rhonda Thurmond was nice and her assistants but I dont appreciate the fact that patients are forced to have to do Corneal Topography & Retinal Imaging which is not covered by insurance (I have VSP). Whether this is recommended or not, the office shouldnt force you to do it, it should be your own decision.

All my questions were answered in a professional manner. The entire staff at the Guilford Eye Center were very friendly, patient and caring. I underwent several tests and was screened for glaucoma; The person administered those tests was very knowledgeable, gentle and friendly, she made me feel comfortable during the testing. They fail to mention that they will charge you for taking a photo of your eye whether you want it or not. This is an optional procedure at other places, which is not covered by insurance. They also ask if you want contacts, but again fail to mention another add on procedure to map the topography of your eye for contact fitting. Of course this is not optional or covered by insurance. I have worn glasses and contacts all my life and never had to do all this for a simple eye exam. This adds over $50 on top of the copay for an exam. I suggest going to one of the many other options in town for an exam.

I changed Eye Doctors this year because I was not able to see with the last two sets that he had prescribed. One short visit and Dr. Wood discovered that the muscle in my right eye had stopped working. Add Prism to the prescription and I can see perfectly. Everything ran smoothly from making an appointment, to the staff being ready for me and no waiting. Dr. Wood was ready after the initial screening was done and started the exam. I explained why I had changed and he looked in my right eye and said Opps. I think I see the problem. He explained it perfectly wrote the prescription and sent me out to pick out new frames. Plenty of frames to pick from. I picked out the pair I wanted and was told when then should be in. They called 5 days earlier than they told me. Im tough to fit because I hate slipping glasses. The lady took her time with me, worked with me until I felt comfortable and I have not been back for a refitting yet. The first time Ive never had to go back 4 or 5 times. Now I wear my glasses instead of them being a decoration on the top of my head. Their perfect. I would recommend Guilford Eye Center to everyone.

I established care with Dr. Wood for an initial evaluation of DED and MGD. I received an extremely comprehensive exam; he was very thorough and offered additional treatments that had not been offered previously. He is extremely knowledgable about the latest advancements in treatments for DED/MGD. He provided multiple samples of various products (OTC lubricating drops and ophthalmic steroid) and coupons for two prescriptions. His staff is competent and welcoming; and the office atmosphere is pleasant and comfortable. Highly recommend!

I am disappointed with the staff here because I scheduled a routine contact lens appointment that I told the staff to NOT do anything that was not covered by his insurance. They generate a bill over $400 which $200 was services NOT covered, NOT needed for a healthy 26 yr old patient. I feel he was taken advantage of by doing services without being told what the service were and more importantly that they were not covered under his plan. We will not be going back to GEC.

Ive been in their office a few times. The first time when I went in 2013, one of the doctors assistants was very rude to me. She appeared to be new, so I decided to let it go and give them another chance since my overall experience was pleasant. My second appointment went well as well, and I was totally convinced that my first experience with the rude assistant was an isolated case. However, when I returned to just pick up my new prescription glasses, I was made wait for over 20 minutes, while there were no other patients in the office and all staff members talking among each other, cracking up jokes and telling each other what they do when they are hung over. I love Dr. Woods but he needs to screen his staff members better!

However, the staff at GEC are not only informative and helpful, they are all really super sweet. George Thurmond the RACIST: If it were not for the technicians that came before the doctor, the review would be a zero. Doctor George Thurmond was completely rude to myself and my daughter. When he walked into the room he did not speak, he did not inform me on what was going on with my daughter’s eyes and how to go forth in the future with a five year old. He typed on his computer looked through paperwork and said “ok head up front, they will check you out”. It was by far the worst experience with a doctor I have encountered.

I had the same experience today(6-5-2018) as one of the patients that came in to this place 2 weeks ago. I m Not sure, if Dr. Thurmond is trying to run off all of his WOC folk or what; obviously its working!! If he did Not want to see me then just tell me and Ill find another doctor. If, it werent for the two techs that saw me before him(Dr. Thurmond) I would have just walked out! He comes across as cold, stuck up and inflated with this huge ego!! He came into the room and announced himself. I stuck out my hand first because he did Not offer his, it was the most flimsy hand shake, Ive ever received. I was examined but he kept his hands on the keyboard and his eyes on the screen; head down most of the time. He asked me a few questions about my health and both answers were...No. He continued typing, never really looking at me. I had to ask because he did Not provide any information at the time. It was so quiet back there and eerie. Just sitting in the same room with this doctor that gives no explanations or crack any jokes...nothing!! I said...So, whats going on? What do you see? He said, your optic nerve is swollen. Ok!?! I got really panicky. After all, these are my eyes, for goodness sake!! Then he added, I want to see you back in three weeks after, youve had your blood work done. I felt very unsure about the whole experience. I thought, I was going to get my eye glasses Rx but no...so, I sat there thinking whats wrong with my eyes!?! Why didnt I get a clear explanation!?! Whats going to happen next!?! The woman who sat down in front of me acted as if she was scared and was talking so loud about my insurance and the things in my chart. I was livid. It was all so rushed once you get back there to see the doctor. Its like a blur(no pun) intended. I just remember picking up my son from school about 20 minutes before my appt and he has Autism and I told him, I was nervous because the last time, I was at this eye doctor; it was Not a nice experience. I told my son, that if it isnt a great experience this time, then it will be my last time. I do Not want to come back and if I do I better be able to see someone else. Period!

As usual, the office staff greeted me by name, explained all the procedures to be done, and Dr Wood spent time with me explaining test results and comparing them with prior years results. I never feel rushed and appreciate the care I receive there.
